A different kind of review. I visited Tim's shop to seek a fix on my snowboard for a couple of core shots that happened early season. I'm someone who keeps their boards for a long time, but this year was the year I happened to upgrade. I brought in my new Burton Custom to see if Tim's shop could take on the fixes. I was pretty bummed out, and I knew I needed to take care of filling these core shots if I wanted to keep this board like my other ones for many years. Tim graciously inquired, "have you done any kind of repair work on your boards before?" I said I have not. He then was very encouraging and said I should try and do the work. It is labor intensive, and I could learn for future repairs. I ride trees and backcountry a lot. Tim then told me what to buy and hooked me up with metal grind and p-tex for free. Well, after a few YouTube videos and buying my own tune kit, I finished the repairs and tune today and it turned out so good! Even though I didn't get anything serviced at Tim's shop, he was cool and "taught me how to fish." I could have spent the same amount of money to get it fixed at Tim's shop or other, but now I learned a life long skill that is in an industry I love so much. Tim's shop was super busy with tunes and fixes, and I'm sure that's part of the reason he was encouraging for me to take on doing the work. But ultimately, I think he saw someone who is passionate about snowboarding and could learn something really useful. Prime example of an excellent local business, came in for a standard tune up for my snowboard and Tim immediately took great care of me. Listened to the issues I was having it, busted out the screwdriver and diagnosed it on the spot, took it in for a fair price and got it back to me the day we agreed on looking absolutely pristine. And gosh the tune up job was almost too good, I was flying down the slopes, and even traversing catwalks it felt like it just wanted to go. Can't recommend this shop enough. Yes it's a bit more expensive than your big business spots but the peace of mind and clear care for your equipment is worth it to me personally. Will be coming back for all of my maintenance needs. read more

Thank you Tim for fitting me a ski rental in 1 day notice! I did not know, you need to make an appointment in a week beforehand for ski rental! I stop by on Sunday afternoon, and was able to pick up Monday afternoon. I told Tim my ski trip is in 1 day, and he said let's get you set for your trip! Tim is a nice guy, explaining me the procedure and fitting my feet by my comfort level. It was very quick 10-15 mins, in & out. Tim definitely had knowledge & 20+ years of experience in the business! Tim is very professional, doesn't trying to sell you anything else; that you don't need. He is there for your needs. In terms of fixing your ski/snowboard, rentals etc. The ski adult rental is $60 for 2 days, in addition is $20 per day + $12 for any damages. Definitely recommend Tim, if you need any rental! He rents out good brands equipments. So, when you are ready to buy and commit to a ski brand then you know which one to get! Tim also sell ski and snowboard gear, and moonboot snow boots for rental. read more

Tim is super-knowledgeable and great guy. I had a Burton snowboard that I had only ridden 7 days and the base sheet was peeling away. Burton offered to warranty it, but required me to pay for shipping to VT. I took the board along with my daughter's new skis that needed bindings mounted to Tim. Unfortunately, he did not have the jig for my daughter's bindings but fixed my board like brand new. He refused to allow me to pay for his work since he felt bad he wasn't able to get my daughter's bindings mounted. I've been around Millbrae for a long time but overlooked this shop. The day finally came when I decided to take up snowboarding, and I needed some boots to rent. After a friend mentioned she was going to a place in Millbrae, I decided to Yelp it (and to be honest after seeing the reviews, decided to go there as well). Small shop, when I walked in my friends were already there sitting on the small wooden bench trying on boots. I was greeted by a burly, yet friendly and good-humored man that asked what I needed. The whole experience was easy and so enjoyable. A second man (I think he owned the shop) came out, and him and the first man had a whole Abbott and Costello vibe going and I loved it. There was lots of hilarious banter between my friends, and the shop workers and I ended up getting what I needed. For super cheap too. Will definitely be back for any snowboard needs. read more

Tim is awesome!! My dad and I have been renting ski gear from him for years, and he's always been so helpful, patient, and accommodating. I finally decided to purchase stuff this winter and got my first pair of skis (Volkl Secrets) from his shop. I love them! His selection of new women's skis was quite small, but high quality at a reasonable price. My only sadness about the experience was that he doesn't sell boots, so I had to go elsewhere for those. read more

Great local snow board and ski shop. it's a small place but the guy is super helpful. My skis are all tuned up and ready to go. Reasonable price for a basic tune up. Tried to do the same for my wife's snowboard but it's so old the base was falling off and we didn't even notice until he pointed it out. Gave us the best advice we could to have it repaired but might be beyond it's useful life. Anyways, give this business a try for tune ups rental or even buying new gear. read more

Tim is a master of snowboard tuning. I had been going to Sports Basement thinking I was getting a good tune. After one weekend of groomed runs, my snowboard had no wax. After 2-3 visits to Sports Basement for the same board in a single season of light riding, I looked up Tim on Yelp and have never looked back. After three days at Park City and another three at Northstar, my board still feels great. It could probably use some more wax but I got SO MUCH MORE mileage from the board after Tim tuned it. He is thorough and professional. I travel up from Palo Alto/Menlo Park to bring him all my family's snowboards. Worth the trip! read more

Reviewing this since you likely need a ski shop in neighborhood rather than REIs 20 minutes in each direction or better option of a true ski shop. Unfortunately this shop is too selective and there needs to be another shop - called during the off season for binding install and the person unfortunately interpreted my bindings as AT specific (they are not), the person presumed I had touring skis and was told to go to REI without hearing further details of my skis. REI is subpar but it became only option due to dismissive ski shop. Unfortunate for the shop, but more importantly unfortunate for us as customers there is no true ski shop nearby and competitors should take note and open shop, market appears to be ripe. read more

Found this shop when after I moved back into the area, when my preschoolers were ready to go ski for the first time (they are now teens). Turns out Tim, the owner used to work at a shop where my family used to frequent when I was in grade school (and we remember him too)! He's been doing this for a very long time, and you can tell he takes pride in his work. I always feel he charges a fair price or lower, and does a much better job than the shops at resorts or sports store. Highly recommend. Do understand it is very much a one-man shop, so go early and be respectful of his time. He has a hard time turning people away at closing time. Ask questions if you have them. You need to go early since he's very popular and easy to deal with. Tim rents skis, snow boards and other ski accessories. All up to date. He quickly sanded them and described how to fix the end with super glue. I found his honesty and expertise refreshing and appreciated his help and advice. I highly recommend this place. Tim provides excellent service. I was there because my ski boots went down a size. With look pivot bindings, mostly likely they have to be remounted. He quickly examined and told me adjustment might be good enough so I didn't have to spend extra money to drill new holes. In case of remounting, he'd let me know. Tim is wonderful. I've been going to him since last season. As a new skier, he helped guide me with good equipment for my skill level. As I've gotten less bad :) he's helped me with the next level of ski equipment. I've started to bring my kids here to get outfitted. Always a pleasant experience - unlike other locations, I never felt like I was being ripped off or pushed to rent/buy something I didn't need. His rental & purchase prices are excellent - much better than anything you'd find on the mountain. To the reviewer who faulted him for being closed at 2:30 on a Thursday - his hours are posted. I was in need of a quick wax and Tim pulled through. I showed up probably 30 minutes before closing the day before I was supposed to leave on my trip. He doesn't actually have a machine wax so it does take some effort to apply the wax. For some reason I thought he wouldn't be busy so I could show up so late without a prior appointment. He was pretty busy but he said that he would be able to do the job. He told me to come back in half an hour. Came back, picked up my board, and went home. Easy, and my board looked beautiful. Tim is the epitome of a great business man. I want to be like him when I grown up, really I do. So two winter seasons ago, I wrecked my board (it wasn't my fault, skier ran into me, I'm okay thanks for asking, no major injuries). My board was clipped by her skies which damaged my board which put me out of commission for the rest of the season. A moderate - sized steel piece had flipped up near the edge. Great as a defense mechanism. This January, I brought my board to Tim and he fixed it up in no time, I needed it the week of and he finished it in a couple days. It was polished, smooth as a baby's bottom and had a nice finished poxy over the once damaged area. It was also waxed for the first time for a small fee. Tim is attentive and is genuinely concerned about your needs. He cares!! He really really cares!! The turnaround time is short and quality, fantastic. That week, I brought in five friends to rent equipment from his store and the transaction was seamless and experience quick and simple. Great little shop to attend to all your snow slope needs. When my old ski boots started to feel too tight, I shopped around in Tahoe a bit but didn't feel like paying $300+ for new ones, so I tried this little place near home. True to the Yelp reviews I had fantastic experience. The owner pointed it out right away that he could simply adjust the bindings (for FREE) instead of selling me new boots. I decided to trade in my old one for a nearly new pair he has on sale anyway. And he gave me an extra $25 discount without prompting! Wow, what kind of businessman is this? Felt like this place exists only to help skiers/snowboarders with their equipment instead of selling stuff. I also noted the very reasonable equipment rental price. Consider the level of personal service and condition of equipment here, I'll definitely rent here for my out-of-town visitors before heading out to Tahoe. read more
