Extremely glad to have a Lacrosse store in the area. The staff there are knowledgeable, and are always friendly and very helpful. We've been to the store several times, and everything that we looked for they had the right and best items in stock, and the price is very reasonable. We knew nothing about Lacrosse (and our Lacrosse expert friend told us about the store), and are truly appreciative to have the advice and service in person, like cutting the stick to the right length for our young daughter, or getting everything in hand right away so that she could practice in the same afternoon. Most importantly, the staff explained to us the differences among the sticks and our daughter was able to try them out before picking the one that she was most comfortable with. He was able to tell me what kind of head makes the most sense for my son. He asked his age, position, team, etc., and was able to recommend something. My kid does play lacrosse, and she plays it well. While Sling It does have a fair variety of girls' lacrosse gear, but the staff is not educated on girls' gear. She doesn't care if the shaft and head match, and she doesn't need pink anything. I don't care if it's the best selling head you have... if it's not a good stick for a petite defender it's not worth it for us. Fortunately we've done some research and she knew what she wanted... so we dug through stock ended up combining the shaft and head from different sticks to get her what she wanted. What pissed me off was going online and finding the exact same setup that I just bought from them for $40 less! I have emailed them, we'll see if they come through. If she has a lacrosse emergency we'll come back here, otherwise, I'll order online from another store. read more

I like how they didn't try to sell us on all the high end gear when we just were starting out. We are glad we are able to try the gear on and get the correct fit. This is definitely the place to go if you or your kid plays lacrosse. They have everything there that you need, and people who know their product. This is especially important for a newbie like me, who knows virtually nothing about the sport (except that it's VERY exciting to watch!) The only negative is that it's so far from San Carlos :-) But with the popularity of lacrosse growing, I hope they'll open up another shop further up north. Good stuff! read more

When I started playing lacrosse back in 1990 there was a store in Berkeley where they sold lacrosse gear. When it closed and I was forced to always buy via mail-order or online I always had such a hard time getting the right gear, especially when I had an emergency like a broken shaft. These guys know lacrosse. Their staff know the gear well and make great recommendations. Also the fact that they can do stringing right on-site is a huge plus. As long as Sling It is around I won't be ordering from any of the online or mail-order places. Well worth a drive if you're anyplace in the bay area, especially if you're already on the peninsula. If you're a parent with a kid and need to completely outfit him DEFINITELY check with them first. read more

I have found that lacrosse stores are generally not the best run businesses. People get into the biz because they love the game rather than any aptitude for running an enterprise. That said, this place isn't bad. I'll never understand the lead time in getting a head strung. Can't the guy leaning against the counter string between customers? I watch my kid's coach do it all the time so I don't understand the long waits. read more

This is a perfect place for a bunch of pre-teens or teens to hang out at. My son and his friends had so much fun at this store. The young sales staff is fantastic and totally understands the young players. They also understand that mom doesn't want to choke up $$$ for gear if the old gear is still fine, just because junior wants to get pro stuff. I am a mom of two girls that were new to the sport as freshman and have loved playing lax. Over the last 4 years we have bought two defender sticks (and gear) and goalie gear all from Sling It! The care and attention we've received when we stop by has been invaluable. With so many online options for purchasing anything on the internet, the expertise in person and live feedback to our questions is what will keep us coming here to purchase our gear. I have found the entire staff helpful both to me and to my girls when they've gone in without me (teenagers can sometimes be treated poorly as customers if they may not look like the purchasing decision makers) in making sure we understood our options, while not being overly pushy salespeople. My girls love playing LAX, and I really appreciate the feeling that I am buying the right gear that will last them for a long time, and for my goalie--the gear will protect her to the highest level of safety standards. My 8-year-old son has been surfing the web a lot lately, looking at shafts and heads. All I hear is "Come and look at this shaft Mom", or "You've got to see this head Mom". So I thought it would be fun to check out the largest inventory of shafts and heads for miles around, and off we went to Sling It Lacrosse in Mountain View. You never met a kid so hot for sporting gear as my kid. If the sport requires a lot of gear - he's in. Lacrosse requires a lot of gear. Besides the shaft and head (that make up the stick, by the way), there's a lot of padding, helmet, gloves, etc. The knowledgeable folks at Sling It patiently gave me a rundown of what gear was required to play the game and told me about a first-timers package they offer to get kids started out in the sport. They also rent gear, so your kid can try the sport out (like mine is going to do at a camp next week) without you having to invest too much in your kid's latest whim. The best thing about this shop is the people who work here. They are very enthusiastic about lacrosse and very knowledgeable, not just about the gear they carry, but about the sport and about what's going on in the local lacrosse community. I loved their bulletin board filled with info about upcoming camps, local clubs and loads of local team photos. I thought it was very cool that they didn't mind my 2-year-old "exploring" the shop either, and told me, "Don't worry. He can't hurt anything in here." read more

This is the store for Lacrosse gear on the Peninsula. The staff are always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They have always been spot on with recommendations for sticks (heads and shafts) as well as the protective gear. They have been thoughtful with their recommendations on the value for your money aspect too, extremely important when my kids were first starting out. My twins especially liked the custom stringing of the heads given all the crazy colors to choose from. read more

This is our "go-to" store for all things lacrosse: shafts, gear, pads... even info! They are a great source for info on camps, tournaments, etc. as well. Owner Mike Sheridan is in my opinion one of the core group of people responsible for building up lacrosse in the Southbay area. The staff was very unhelpful, tried to take advatage of me. Trying to sell me items that I did not need to play. Their prices are extremely high compared to other stores. When I questioned certain items the person (mike) helping me got very short and nasty with me because I didn't know things or I was asking basic questions.
