I've been to Goetz Bros. multiple times over the years for sporting gear (mostly little league), and their selection and customer service are excellent. I especially want to call out their very knowledgeable staff, who have a real understanding of client needs, price points, and athletics. These guys are pros in every sense of the word, and can help kit your kid (or you!) out without any problem. We've gotten everything from personalized ump gear to gloves, and I'm happy to pay (usually) competitive prices to get everything fitted properly, with a real person who's helping make sure the gear works for you. When you need high-quality baseball gear, this is your shop. The shop is cluttered, but that's part of its charm. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. It was always preferred over Sports Authority (when SA existed) where employees were just workers there and didn't know the difference between a Rawlings Renegade series and a Heart of the Hide. Goetz Bros. is practically a Redwood City landmark, but I've only been twice in the last ten years. Now that both daughters are playing in multiple youth sports leagues, however, it looks like I'll be paying them a visit more often. This is a mom-n-pop store (yay!), and the staff here is stellar. I've had excellent customer service here both times. (On my first visit last year, they let me in for one quick purchase, even though it was 5 minutes after closing time, and they were closing the doors). On our recent trip we bought a batting helmet, bag and bat for softball, basketball shoes, and shin guards + socks for soccer. I picked up swim goggles for me. The employee who helped us was a pleasure to work with. While wandering around the store and taking blurry photos on my phone, I was amazed at the variety of sports they supply for: basketball, football, soccer (indoor and outdoor), baseball, softball, volleyball, swimming, even lacrosse and rugby. In addition to supplying team uniforms they also have a decent supply of general sports clothing for adults and youth. Until recently, the most unique (and humorous) aspect of Goetz Bros for me were their outdoor signs, which were so old and weathered that they looked like props for a post-apocalyptic movie. They always made the store look abandoned (and I half-expected Mad Max to saunter out with a new pair of shoulder pads). I was planning to take some photos of these old signs for this review, but Murphy ruled the day. Wouldn't you know it?...They repainted them! Goetz Brothers is a convenient sporting goods store. It has gear for many sports but is especially known for its baseball supplies. I have been coming here for a while now and have gotten almost all of my baseball gear from this shop. They have some of the best gear in the area, and I have gotten almost everything I wanted so far. Their prices are great and actually cheaper than online. While I was looking for the bat I wanted online, it was priced at around $200. At Goetz, it was $150, $50 cheaper! The employees help us understand why their prices fit. Their workers are excellent too. They tell us differences based on pricing and performance. It is also helpful that some of the laborers have experience from the item and give us feedback. They are patient and not biased. If you want, they have a steaming machine that breaks in your glove. They will steam it for a low price. One guy even helped us carry our stuff to our car after we purchased a lot of items. What service! Finally, you can get a free T-shirt if you use check in to yelp. read more

I love going and window-shopping at sporting goods store, because I feel like a kid once again. Unfortunately, there are not too many left in the bay area with Sport's Authority, Big-5 and other smaller sporting good stores still remains. With the idea invention of the internet, athlete's or sport's aficionado, depending on the level, order their necessary gear from websites at the convenience at home in there bed. And with the internet and other technology, .i.e. Playstation, X-Box, to name a few, the decline in sporting programs in selective high schools has slipped in recent years. You can easily tell why the Bay Area hasn't produce many true superstars, because high-school kids devote their after school activities at the mall, playing video games or doing unlawful actions with friends or foes. It's a good thing that this longtime family owned sporting good store is currently still going strong to this current date. It also helps to have a high school nearby at the corner of El Camino Real and Broadway (don't know the name). Kids, who are dedicated in their respective sports, can basically walk down the Broadway St. and get what they need and perform their beloved sports at their very best. Despite the store being a little disorganized with boxes or freight of all sizes, and depending on the season the sport(s), this store has every thing you need to perform at your very best. Majority of the shoppers/athletes are from high-school or nearby junior colleges. The family staffs are very knowledgeable and knows what's best suited for their needs. In addition to browsing what interest me, I saw this necklace worn by many Major Leaguers and selective athletes: Phiten. The $30.00 Titanium necklace is the technological product to help ease discomfort, reduce stress and injuries, and helps promote relaxation. It comes in 3 different colors: Red, Blue and Black (which I got on my neck). The necklace may or may not work some athletes, who some are a true believer of the product. The product and a Holy Cross symbol also come in handy in my line of dangerous work. With the lack of developing athletes from the Bay Area, I hope this sporting good store continues to stay in business and helps promote more kids to participate in sport(s) instead of hanging out at Peet's and drinking Coffee Frappe drinks and/or eating Beard Papa on Middlefield Road. We use Goetz for all our screen-printing needs for my office, and not only are they great to work with (Brent is very friendly and professional), they're also the cheapest place around to get anything done. They're also fine with you ordering your own tees to bring in, which also saves a bunch because I can bulk order American Apparel tees for way cheaper than retail. If you come here for screen-printing though, you better have the original art files; Brent can't work with PDF or JPG (I usually save for Illustrator 9 for him). It would be nice if they'd upgrade their system, but at their prices (nearly half another in town), I can't complain much. read more

I came in here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was amazed that I never knew it existed before. It is a family business (yes, they are all brothers) and everyone who works here is nice, helpful and accommodating. Come here for anything related to team sports. It is not a store for standard exercise equipment (weights, yoga mats etc). This is a great store. It is crowded with stuff, like walking into someone's attic. But, it's worth it. Goetz has a much, much better selection of baseball stuff than any other store in the Bay Area, as far as I can tell. The glove and bat selection make the big box sports stores look like a joke. However, there don't ever seem to be any discounts...so, you may pay a bit more. However, you will also find that glove, bat, or whatever else you need that you will not find at the big box stores. My one ding is the parking. It is really tough sometimes, and you have to be very aware of the meters! Last time I was there, I parked out front at about 5:50 pm on a Saturday afternoon. I never knew about this place if I didn't search yelp for sport equipment thanks again yelp... walked in to see a good selection of sports equipment looking for a baseball bat they had a good selection to choose from may not be your regular big named sporting good stores but they sure have bats and gloves along with other equipment you won't find in those other stores. Staff is great they will help you find what your looking for. Nice selection of giants jerseys. Nice to know I can always go in for some new gear. I hesitated to write this review because I hear this place is like a local institution. I have been here on and off over the years, but usually go to California Sports in Belmont which is closer. I will say that Goetz Brothers definitely had a wider selection of softball-related stuff. I went in this Monday morning at about 10 a.m. (an hour after opening) at the recommendation of my daughter's pitching coach. The toe section of my daughter's drag cleat was beginning to wear out even though her cleats are only about a month old. Our coach told me Goetz Brothers could "dip the shoe" which she explained meant installing some kind of pad to protect that section of the show to avoid me having to buy new cleats. I walk in the store and I am the only customer there. I suppose its the luck of the draw who you get paired with, but I went up to the counter to an employee that seemed to be doing something else. He asked me if I needed help and I told him our coach said I could get my daughter's pitching shoe dipped there. He had no idea what I was talking about so I explained that I needed to have a pad installed at the toe section of her drag foot. He responded that they did not install anything there, but sold the pad. I asked to see it and he walked me over to the pad and handed it to me. I had a lot of questions since this was a new concept to me, but the employee seemed like he had a ton of more important things to get to. I asked how to install the pad and he essentially said read the instructions. I declined buying the pad since this is not what I thought our coach meant. I then told the employee that I might as well buy new cleats since the pad was a little pricey. He did not offer to show me where the cleats were so I asked. He pointed a finger to the back of the store and I began walking there without him following. After I realized I was looking at soccer cleats, I had to go back and ask him if softball cleats were the ones under the baseball sign to which he said yes and again kept his distance. Another low point of the encounter was regarding a new mitt I was thinking of purchasing. I told the man that since my daughter's pitches were starting to hurt my hand using my old mitt, I was thinking of purchasing a new one. I initially got no response. I was actually expecting something like "that's a good idea, let me show you couple . . ." Instead, after a couple of seconds, I had to follow up with a "what do you think as far as an all purpose mitt?" He responded by saying "well you could get a good mitt for about $150. I wasn't asking about price. I was asking for his expertise and hoping/expecting, he would point out a couple of mitts for me to try. In the end, I am going to stick with a proven commodity and go back to California Sports for my softball needs. They are a little overpriced, but the service there is a night a day situation from what I encountered at Goetz Brothers. If all else fails, then there is always Sports Authority. read more
