Family operated where you can chat with the owner on a daily basis. Great selection of boards, shoes and accessories. Knowledgeable and friendly crew. Love that they have a mini halfpipe in the back. They offer lessons too! Support your local skate shop. You might be able to find a board for less online even a deal from the manufacturer, but by buying local you're supporting folks who are your neighbors and/ or part of your (skate) community. And that's exactly what skateboarding is; a community and your local skate shop like Skateworks are still an essential part of it all.

I came in with my wife and son yesterday while waking around Los Altos and Jason helped me with picking out a longboard. My son has been into riding his scooter so I wanted something to cruise with him or just get outside on. Jason was super helpful and never pushed me in any direction or brand. Have some suggestions and gave me some time to look around. Ended getting a DB longboard and talked to him about building another board at a later time too.

These guys were amazing and so patient! I've never skated before, but both guys in there walked me through the entire process. They were super friendly and had such great insight. I'm amped to start skating!

    Ask the Community - Skateworks

Do you have long board and penny board to try and compare the difference?

Hi Karen. We have demo boards of all shapes and sizes. No penny boards though, but we have “mini cruisers”

    Do they sell roller skates?

Hi Rachele, we only carry rollerskates in our Santa Cruz location. We are able to special order them through our Los Altos store, and can always get something sent over from Santa Cruz to pick up in Los Altos for your convenience. You can contact… Read more

There was no mention of a spring in the manual; nor could I find anything remotely relevant on YouTube. A friend who owns a skateboard shop suggested talking to John at NC board shop. I was sure glad I did. John spent a good 20 minutes figuring out what the part did and getting it back into place. I was so grateful I bought my friend's son a gift certificate - maybe he'll become an NC board shop regular. TL;DR, great service from a really knowledgeable merchant.

The person that helped me out was extremely knowledgeable and very helpful, he was able to guide me through the inns and out of selecting a board that would not only be age appropriate but something that he could also grow into and would last long enough with quality parts "without having to buy the top of the line equipment or for that matter buying something that was crap" I settled on a thrasher board with 53 mm wheels and ABCE9 bearings along with NC Boardshop trucks and finished the underside with the Santa Cruz screaming hand and a bones dinosaur sticker. Cuz that's how I roll "get it, roll?" The shop not only carries everything you need to build a board the also sell protection gear, shoes, socks, pants, and shirts as well as sunglasses and even Christmas ornaments, " which I bought, laugh out loud" Total price for the board was $129 which honestly after doing some interweb research is a pretty good deal for a quality skateboard. Overall experience was great and the customer service was fantastic. I highly recommend them if you're looking to buy a board for yourself or your loved ones.

I had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever encountered at this store…read more I came in to purchase some apparel for my children, and my daughter picked out a shirt that was on clearance. As I was checking out, the cashier informed me that all clearance sales were final. I acknowledged that and told him that was fine. The problem began when the cashier struggled to remove the security sensor from the shirt. After several unsuccessful attempts, he decided to use wire cutters to remove it while it was still attached to the shirt. My husband even pointed out that doing so would likely damage the garment. Despite the warning, the cashier continued and ultimately tore a sizeable hole in the armpit of the shirt. At that point, we understandably told him we no longer wanted the shirt since it had been damaged by an employee during the checkout process. To our disbelief, the cashier insisted that "all sales are final." I explained that the shirt was not damaged when we agreed to purchase it and that the damage occurred because of their employee's actions. A manager was then called over and made the equally absurd statement that clearance items are on sale because they are defective. The shirt was not defective when we selected it--it became defective because their employee damaged it while attempting to remove the security tag. Rather than taking responsibility for their mistake, they told us we either had to find another item of the same price or take the ripped shirt. Their complete lack of accountability and customer service was shocking. In the end, we found another shirt, sparing them from having to refund the $18.95 they seemed so determined not to return. The entire situation could have been resolved with a simple apology and common sense. Instead, we were met with excuses, poor service, and a complete disregard for customer satisfaction. Based on this experience, I will never shop here again and would not recommend this store to anyone.

Posting this as a cautionary tale for anyone buying shoes at Dick's Sporting Goods - Sunnyvale…read more This would have been a one star rating if not for Xavier in Footwear. Excellent service and attitude. I bought a pair of On Cloud shoes and within 5 days realized they were too big. The issue only showed up in real-world use: when walking downhill my foot slid forward into the toe box. That's not something you reliably catch by taking a few steps indoors. I went back to do a simple exchange (not a refund). The shoes were clean and in excellent condition. The only visible difference was very slight yellowing on the outsole contact pads -- noticeable under their bright store lighting but not dirty, or damaged. At first I was told the exchange would be fine. After further inspection, they reversed course and said the shoes were not "resaleable" due to wear. I spoke with multiple people (each initially identifying themselves as "the manager" before clarifying their role), and after a lot of back and forth the best options offered were: * 15% off a replacement pair, or * $60 store credit as a "no receipt return" value (they said this reflects the lowest recent selling price and excludes clearance). I ultimately took the $60 credit because my time is worth something and I needed the correct size. But the key takeaway is this: If you buy shoes here, assume you cannot test them outdoors -- even briefly -- without risking being denied an exchange. The 90-day return policy sounds generous, but in practice footwear appears to need to look completely unworn to qualify. I'm sharing this so others don't make the same assumption I did.
