Unrealistically good skate shop for skateboard related things cant recommend it enough

    Skateworks Downtown Los Altos, CA

Family operated where you can chat with the owner on a daily basis. Great selection of boards, shoes and accessories. Knowledgeable and friendly crew. Love that they have a mini halfpipe in the back. They offer lessons too! Support your local skate shop. You might be able to find a board for less online even a deal from the manufacturer, but by buying local you're supporting folks who are your neighbors and/ or part of your (skate) community. And that's exactly what skateboarding is; a community and your local skate shop like Skateworks are still an essential part of it all.

I came in with my wife and son yesterday while waking around Los Altos and Jason helped me with picking out a longboard. My son has been into riding his scooter so I wanted something to cruise with him or just get outside on. Jason was super helpful and never pushed me in any direction or brand. Have some suggestions and gave me some time to look around. Ended getting a DB longboard and talked to him about building another board at a later time too.

These guys were amazing and so patient! I've never skated before, but both guys in there walked me through the entire process. They were super friendly and had such great insight. I'm amped to start skating!

The shoe selection is carefully curated - and by that I mean that you'll only find higher-quality footwear, but also that your selections are going to be limited. For the men's shoes, there very limited choices for dress shoes, needed for my work, and I'm on my feel for a lot of the day. In fact, on a recent trip there really only was one pair of Eccos that would have worked. There are more casual, non-athletic men's shoes, and a larger selection of sneakers like Hoka. They have an okay rewards program - you get a point for every buck you spend, and when you accumulate 300 points then you get $20 off your next purchase. Essentially it's about a 6.7% rebate, and it hooks you back in to spend even more money! Be aware of the expiration dates of the rewards, however. Look out for brochures or emails with a 15% coupon as well.

There selection of St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day and Easter decor and gifts is exceptional. They had a lovely selection of wrapping paper. I found a roll that had strawberries all over it. It's probably the best bet to get a gift that is cute and unique but you want it to lean more towards being western and not too kawaii and anime. Think of gifting a punny keychain or cute Jellycat versus a Chiikawa plushie or anime acrylic if that makes sense. Meaning that it's probably easier and maybe more acceptable to get a slightly more normie a gift here than it is elsewhere. As you can see, I'm learning what it's like to touch grass and re-integrate into human society. There's a good number of plushies, Jellycat and unique ones like a pink fairy armadillo mole one, tote bags and socks, nice range of jewelry, lots of California themed goods if you're looking for souvenirs that aren't mega generic, and they have a lot of other items as well. As with the quality and high regard some of these items have (Jellycats are NOT cheap), it can be a bit pricier, so make sure that you shop around and check prices elsewhere and that you actually truly care about the person you're getting stuff for and it's not a forced obligation one (family member you're ugh with or coworker Secret Santa that you barely know). Maybe a couple cute things I had my eye on, but it wasn't really for me (speaks volumes about me), but I can see how a store like this works in a pinch if you're gift shopping.
