Just an amazing bicycle shop. The owner is very cool and Rad. He helps with all your needs and is flexible. He built me a Anlun Laser Series 1000 BMX bike and it came out absolutely amazing. There are not a lot of BMX stores around like this one. Old school selection too on bikes and parts. Gearhead Bicycles is an aptly named shop specializing in mountain bikes and BMX, though they can and will work on what you got. I have bought two bikes from them and had them service five or six others, only one which was a mountain bike. Gearhead has now been open long enough they could start sporting an established 2003 sign. Their community commitment is demonstrated by organizing the urchins on the jump track next door eventually to be Pacifica Bike Park at Frontierland, volunteering for the Fogfest bike parking and tasking local "interns". Staff is highly knowledgeable about the local trails and can advise you on the most efficient way to endanger yourself. read more

To be honest, it would have been nice to have actually been greeted at some point, maybe when I walked in, or was walking around the store for about 10 minutes. Nope. Last year when I was getting into the world of cycling, I was learning to install parts and what not into a bike, but there were little tid bits I didn't know how to install, so I went here. Little did I know there were some LBS that would swindle money. They took forever to get my bike ready for parts that I bought. Literally took over a week when another bike shop can get the same job done in a day or two. On top of that they don't use good installation techniques. No anti seize, fibre grip, or grease was used in my build. Just as I was about to get my bike back, I get a call saying I needed a $100 dollar tire to replace since mine was too big? What a joke. There are cheaper tires that are around $20ish that will get the same job done. The only good thing is their use of their handle bar wrapping, but anyone with a free afternoon and 5 rolls of cheap bar tape can learn. read more

Fabulous store and customer service at its best. I was unable to fill air in one of my bikes using my old pump as this bike has a presta valve. Hence I looked up on Yelp for a bike repair shop nearby and found this store with some great reviews and thought of giving it a try. I took the bike to this store to get some air filled. The person were super prompt, friendly and did not charge me a penny. He also taught me how to use my air pump to fill air in such valves(silly me). I requested him to take a look at the condition of my bike as it had been lying unused for a while now. He inspected everything thoroughly, was honest about things and did not try to up sell anything. I had been wanting to mount a kick stand on this bike and when I asked how much that would cost, he quoted an extremely reasonable price for the part (including labor). I immediately got the stand installed (that was also fine rightaway) and upon my request, he even lubricated the bike chain. Not once did he act rude, unfriendly or adamant about not wanting to help. I really appreciate him for being so patient with all my questions and for such an exemplary service. I wish I had asked him his name! :) Highly recommend this place and the service for any bike related work. read more

I've been taking my bikes to gear head for service for a long time. Recently I wanted to bring it in for a tune up but they were super busy like every one else is right now. They told me to bring it in and they would see what needed to be done. I brought it in and after a brief wait. The mechanic made some minor adjustments. She said I needed a new chain and did it on the spot. Got my bike back, rides great and they charged a very reasonable amount. read more

Highly recommend. My bike chain was twisted and I spent hours trying to figure it out at home. The lady at the store fixed it in less than a minute and reinstalled the wheel, and she didn't charge me. She knows what she's doing and is very professional. Great local shop super close to trails. Got a $40 brake bleed done in like 30 minutes while me and a buddy waited, so I as able to get out and ride after. There's even a little pump track right beside that you can session while waiting. Great shop, will definitely be going here if I need help with my bike while out in Pacifica. read more

I am another one who wishes my experience at Gearhead Bikes had been better. My roommate bought an Electra Cruiser from them in 2010, so when I decided to get a Cruiser, she said let's go to Gearhead. She had a great experience with them, so I was confident I would be able to get a Cruiser also. Not so much so. We pulled up (today, July 15, around noontime) and looked at the bikes outside. There was one Cruiser out in front of the store, a black Schwinn Wildwood, clearly used. So, we went inside and looked around, didn't see any cruisers, went back outside, still just the one used one. Then I said to the sales guy, I am looking for a beach cruiser, do you have any? He says, we have one outside, I said oh, the Wildwood, he says, yeah, it's a black one. I said, I wasn't really interested in a black bike, he said okay and walked back inside. That was it. No offers of maybe we can order something for you or was there something specific you were looking for, we might be getting some in. Nothing. read more

I wish I had a 5 star experience like everyone else. This place is lucky Im not giving it just one star. Let me preface by saying I hate giving low stars. I really only reserve it for completely crappy experiences. Called to see if they had bike covers. Spoke to a man (I presume the owner) who was nice enough on the phone. Said they had one left and verified it had a bungee bottom. I asked if it would fit my beach cruiser and he said yes one size fits all. Okay great. I didnt realize that this place was in the boonies of Pacifica or I probably would not have gone. Anyway. That was my mistake. I walked in and the guy at register was very attentive and asked how he could help. I didnt know if it was him or the guy behind him who I spoke to on the phone and I said pretty loudly "Im the one who called about the bike cover". The guy at the register looked like he had no idea, which is fine. When he turned to ask the guy in the back working on the bike, that guy mumbled something like "ya its out there by the baskets" Really? You couldnt just leave it at the register for me. Or even ackowledge that it was ME you talked to on the phone and maybe come out and show me instead of having me wander around. The guy at the register again was nice enough to come help. Then as I inspected it, low and behold it does not have a bungee bottom. And I said to the guy at the register that this doesnt have a bungee bottom. He again turned to the guy who was too busy to actually stop and help and said do these come with a bungee cord. And without even looking up from his job said to me/us "Those are the only kinds we've sold and I thought they had a bungee bottom" Are you f-ing serious?!?! You had me drive out here for something you ASSumed had a bungee cord. Wow. I bought it since I drove out that far anyway. Got home and slapped this sucker on my beach crusier and what do you know. IT DOES NOT FIT! The guy at the register being nice and helpful is what saved this review. read more

If you are a bmx junkie, Matt and Tracy have your fix in gold, purple or camo anodized aluminum Nestled in the back of the town of Pacifica is a really cool bike shop that has lots of old skool bmx bikes on the rack as well as the latest chi chi bmx parts They also function as a town bike shop and have a decent collection of mountain bike and mtb parts I'm going to try them out for servicing the hydralic brake lines on one of my sleds If you have a car, it's actually fairly easy to get to via 280 to hwy 1 (only about 20 mins from sf) and unlike SF you dont have to wait 3 weeks before they can even start your repair The also have brokered a tentative deal with local landowners to keep some trails open, major kudos for that And are also trying to legitimately open a bike park there see http://www.pacificabikepark.com It's also owner run, so support the little guys if you can read more

We bought our son a $200 bike (HARO) for christmas this year. Our son JUST turned 4, but we see it as an investment ... as Gearhead promised lifetime adjustments and spoke to us about the difference of how they build a bike compared to the box stores, that use air compressors from "a-z" to build their bikes. Anyhow the customer service in December was great ... and our son has the coolest bike around. Today I brought my 13 year old mountain bike to be looked at. A few of the gears were not changing and I wanted to go on a bike ride with my 4 year old son today. The friendly staff (a female) dropped what she was doing to troubleshoot what was going on. She fixed everything (tightened cables, found out why gears were sticking, etc.) right as I was waiting and I told her I'd buy what I could in the shop (an air pump, so tires for our BOB stroller) in addition to her labor rates. They took a little off of their already low price for labor when I paid the bill. It was the kind of customer service that I MISS ... friendly and efficient! I can get all four cables and misc parts from Amazon the same day for $5 more. I like to support local business but I don't like leaving one feeling like I need a shower. I had two awesome experiences at this shop within the last month. First, I bought a used vintage '81 Nishiki for my wife. This bike was is good shape but not great shape. Brought in the bike the day I bought it and didn't have an appointment. They were pretty backed up but the bike needed a really good look over since it has been in a garage for almost 20 years. Front derailleur seized and rust on a lot of the bike. They not only did a full tuneup but got rid of 90% of the rust and had the front derailleur working again and all at budget. Since they did a great job on that I decided to have them install my new fork. Called for an appointment and Tracy said they could fit me in today and get me out the same day. Not only did she get me out within a few hours she tuned/adjusted the brakes, rotors, cassette and all under estimate of $60. Not only do they provide great service they are just great down to earth good people that are passionate about bikes. I now have a shop I can trust my bike needs. Went there for the first time this week for work to be done on my mountain and cyclocross bikes. Tracy was really friendly, knowledgeable and knew her stuff about bikes. She took her time to explain everything that was to be done to both bikes. Came here because of the reviews I read. Seemed like this place had the best quality selection, knowledge, and service. Definitely met expectations. I wanted to pick up a new hobby riding a bmx, and I read about a lot of good brands and parts: this place has it all. Dominic was running the shop today and he knew exactly what to bring off the shelf that met my preference, my height, etc. I was also allowed to take a couple bikes out for a test. Ended up getting a 2018 Fitbike Trl I really liked the vibe in the shop and next to the shop, too. It looked like they had a small park with mounds to ride on just next to the store, and there were a lot of riders there that seemed like regulars. Loved the no frills, down-to-earth experience. Will definitely be back to get my bike serviced and for more parts once I get more experience! read more

Excellent Customer Service & Product Selection Earlier today, my wife and I went shopping for a cruiser for her. She didn't know exactly what she wanted but was looking for a comfortable bicycle that would perform well on the paths connecting our beaches. At Gearhead Bicycles, she was shown multiple options that fit the bill. She was encouraged to ride each bike a number of times and repeatedly they adjusted the seat to ensure a good fit. Ultimately, she found a great cruiser and she was excited to ride it home. Additionally, they were able to recommend a variety of accessory options and order us the one my wife was looking for. As I understand this place is more of a mountain bike shop/repair, but they are so accommodating to all bikes brought in. Our 3.5yo who has been riding Woom 2 (14 inch) bike since he was 2.5yo, but he is not tall. So in no way is he ready for 16 inch bike (we tried), but he was over-pedaling his bike, so we were looking into internal auto gear shift hub options. Could only find one from another brand: Prevelo. After attempting to do what we thought a simple alternation ourselves, we realized the chain that we had that fit Woom gear was not compatible to the Prevelo gears. So we went to a local bike shop: Gearhead to ask if they had chain that might be compatible with both. Not only did the repair person found a chain that would fit both types of gears, he asked if we would want him to install it as well, so we agreed, wanting to see it working. Still, I was a little nervous about the labor price. The repair person spent a good 20-30 min working on the bike. In that time another 3-4 customers came in, and he did aid them as well. End result: $25 of labor $10 new chain from the bike shop. (Not counting the $15 chain that we bought prior online that did not fit, and cost of Prevelo tire). Overall, very reasonably priced and extremely knowledgeable/ helpful. Was our first time at this bike shop (as simple maintenance we do ourselves), but will definitely be back in the future for slightly trickier adjustments! That day, had a very happy 3.5 yo and his family . He biked the 10k that very morning sooo much faster than we have ever seen him. And no more overpedaling! His older brother on 20 inch geared bike had to pedal harder to keep up! Thanks to great service at local Pacifica bike shop! read more
