"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I honestly tried to give this place another chance, since the last mishap was semi-minor. I'm literally doing everything I can with the exception of shoving money into their hands to support my LBS (local bike store) and they basically want to slap me in the face and tell me to keep it. I ordered a bike in-store with them (2021 Trek Emonda SL 6, $3600 after tax) around mid July, fully knowing that the bike had come out about a month prior, and there would be some lead time especially due to COVID. Knowing this, they said it would be ordered and ready by end of August. Here I am end of August, I walk in to check if my bike is around just in case I'm lucky and it's in before September. The guy says "oops, looks like they put an SL6 pro on hold instead which isn't your bike...so we have to order directly from Trek instead." What. The bike when I purchased it in July was already not available and I already had specified what bike I wanted (non-pro version, $500 cheaper and I'm too slow for deeper rims anyway). Instead, today they call a different Summit Bikes store to see if why it's not shipped to them and they find it's not the right one and tells me they never ordered it from Trek in the first place expecting to get it from another branch, and that I would be backordered until MARCH. MARCH 2021. I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a "Keyboard Karen" in these times. But for them to not notify me that my bike was *never* ordered and to hold my money ($3,600 after tax) for THREE QUARTERS OF A YEAR for it to come, and not even give me some sort of recourse and barely an apology, is absolutely ridiculous. The lack of organization in this company astounds me. Like I said, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Shame on me for believing that my last poor experience was just a fluke and shame on me for expecting better when buying an almost $4,000 piece of hardware. Don't bother with this store. Cognition Cycles is down the street. Sports Basement/REI a few cities down. Heck, Wal-Mart is more likely to get me back on the road at this point. read more

Took our 3 bikes in for various tune-up activity. The workmanship was good, and the initial customer service and consultations were great. Mike, who I think is the service manager, was very friendly and appears to knows his stuff. One of their techs had a different take on what should be done to my daughter's bike than he did after she performed the service. This would cost extra and it raised some safety concerns, so I wanted his opinion before I ponied up for the extra service. Multiple attempts over the phone went straight to voice mail so I stopped by to see him. He wasn't there that day and an email seeking his opinion was unanswered, so I stopped by a second time to try and catch him. On our way back to the service desk the tech who met me at the door made a snide remark that I should have taken the bikes the day before because they were ready. I couldn't do that because I hadn't spoken with Mike yet about the extra service recommendations and I didn't have a car that would fit them all. I asked when Mike would be back and was informed he was out to lunch and would be back in 30 minutes. I said I'd come back. Five minutes later while in the car I get a call from Mike to come pickup my bikes. Apparently he was having lunch upstairs and says he heard the whole conversation. When I asked him if he heard the snide remark he said yes, but it was apparent I had caught him off-guard with my question. I showed up and tried to engage him in what happened and seek his opinion, but was basically told to pay and take my business elsewhere. So I paid and I will. To Mike and the ownership of Summit Bicycles, there are multiple sides to every story, and taking your staff's side in a small disagreement with a customer is horrible form. I take my daughter's safety very seriously and so I will take my business elsewhere and I'll recommend others do the same. read more

I brought my electric cargo bike in for a general tune up service after 1500miles of riding, disc brake pad replacements, and to replace the cables in the shifting mechanism for a Enviolo hub (they were broken). Mind you, this bike is not one they sell, although, Summit sells other bikes with the same Bosch motors and Enviolo hubs. When I got the bike back, I took it for test drive and the bike gearing seemed off. I brought it home and my wife agreed it didn't feel right. Ended up taking the bike back the next day and Chris ended up fixing the issue at no charge. I am happy to have a place much closer to home and able to work on my bike! read more

COVID-19: They don't enforce masks for their customers. I wrote them this about my experience going there a week ago. They never replied. So now it goes here. They had their chance to resolve this in private... "Today I was standing in line to enter your store. As I stood there, a customer inside the store took of her mask, and walked back and forth inside the store unmasked for several minutes while talking on her phone. None of the employees took any action, or even seemed to pay attention. She walked right past at least two of them several times. So I left and found another bike store." read more

These guys are Awesome! My attempts to get hubby to workout more paid off when (to my amazement) he decided to buy a Bicycle so that he could cycle to and from work. While we were looking Summit Bicycles was the one place that not only had the particular Bike he was looking for but had excellent customer service. All of the other store's we visited (and there was a lot of them!) were really unhelpful and didn't seem too knowledgeable. We made a number of visits to this store while trying to figure out what was needed and test riding different frame sizes and each time the staff were so friendly and helpful, they really do know their stuff and genuinely seemed to care more about sorting us with the appropriate Bike than just making a sale. 2 weeks on, hubby has his new bike complete with accessories which he got 20% discount on and is really happy with his ''new toy''. Happy Hubby = Happy me too. *Update: 4th February 2012* Another excellent experience with Summit Bicycles today. I decided it was now time to get a newer better Bike for myself and this was the first place I came. I was in the store for over an hour talking with the sales guy and test riding 3 different ones. He was really eager in helping me find something to suit my needs which isn't an easy task! Being just under 5 foot tall (or is that short?) there isn't that many adult bike's that fit me but we succeeded in the end and I simply love it! Really great neighborhood bike shop right on California Drive in Burlingame. Sitting right at the perfect spot between a local old-school bike shop and a modern showroom and repair center, these guys just do service perfectly. Had my wife's bike in here for a tuneup and they checked and cleaned everything and fixed some serious shifting and braking issues all as a part of that single service. Great attitude, super capable and awesome communication throughout. Also bought some pedals from them. A lot of good recommendations and solid options. Highly recommend this place if you need a new bike or just need some work or enhancement on the one you've already got. read more

Ive been trying to cancel an order for almost 2 weeks by calling and email but no one picks up or answers from this store. I emailed summit bicycles general support and got a response immediately from a marketing person but he was completely unhelpful saying i need to contact the store i made the order with to cancel my order. I told him they do not not respond in any way and left it at that. Im not sure whats happening but summit bicycles in burlingame but their customer service sucks to a whole new level. Ive made close to 24 calls and several emails. Quick to take my money and since then nothing... Do not waste your time and money here. There are better bicycle shops out there. Avoid this one. I was hoping to purchase a Trek Madone SL7 in the Burlingame location. Initially I was there for an Emonda but Joe(sales associate) mentioned that a shipment for a Madone in my size is arriving in two weeks. I ended up purchasing the bike in hope to receive the bike in two weeks. However, it's close to two months and yet the shipment appears to be uncertain. (Joe) never set the expectations that it would take this long. At this point I decided to purchase the more expensive MADONE SLR. The day that I was scheduled to pick up the bike, I rushed from work to the store and before they were to close I received a call from Joe indicating that I am not able to pick up the bike that day(I was livid) rushing through traffic and all. I made another attempt to pick up the bike two days later and ended up interacting with Ian who appeared to be either new or inexperienced. He claimed I am unable to pick up the bike again!!! Because he didn't know what to do on this end to process the transaction. (At this point I was furious, ) Instead of apologizing for my negative buying experience, Ian opted to mansplane and rehash the situation, which was both unprofessional and lacking of empathy. At this point it was transparent I wouldn't be able to pick up my bike. It was a difficult choice but I ended up canceling the purchase. This is for online ordering, I've never had the in-store experience. I ordered a SRAM derailer on Oct 25th expecting it in a few days. I called to check on it OCt. 30th and it had yet to be ordered. I was told it would be coming from a vendor. If you don't carry something why sell it online? I learned my lesson again to stick to either local or reputable online retailers. Brought my Trek Madone in to the Burlingame shop for a quick adjustment. Their mechanic did a thorough check-out 'just in case' and amazingly found a hidden (and dangerous) crack in the down-tube, rendering my bike unusable. They quickly worked with Trek to get me a no-charge warranty replacement and provided a demo for my use in the interim. This is 'exceeding all expectations' at many levels. Just fantastic service! I needed help with my bike. Most stores were too busy even to make an appointment. However, Summit Bicycles made me an appointment with only 10 days! So I was super excited! They even promised to return my bike next day (it was really minor job). That was a week ago! I dropped my bike on Thursday and Friday evening received a call that it is not done but will be done on Monday 100%. I called them Monday evening - no response, Thursday evening with no results as well. Today is Saturday and my bike was ready (nobody let me know about it, I had to drive to the store to find it out). Mechanic did a fantastic job, I really love it! It worth the wait! read more

Everything about this shop was perfect - the location, the selection of bikes and many were perfectly in my price range. This was going to be my first non-Target bike and I was excited to have a reliable vehicle I could commute to work with. I hit the pavement with my husband, convinced I would be riding my new bicycle home. They were busy when we got there. I helped myself to the touch screen on the wall and checked out a few bikes that were in my size. There weren't many with small frames (I'm 5' tall) but I did find one that looked promising and looked around for a salesperson. 10 minutes pass. Staff scurried by. No one would make eye contact with me. That's okay, they're busy, I understand. I pulled the bike off the rack myself and checked to make sure the frame would fit me. Fiddled with the brakes. Looked up again. Two people behind the counter, I try to flag one and they ducked away. It's okay, I'll wait my turn. I moved directly into the walkway with the bike, hoping my obstruction would trigger an acknowledgment of my existence. It's been about 30 minutes by this point since I entered the store - 20 of which I've been standing there like a lemon trying to get help, the last 10 of which my husband has been griping. "I didn't know you were buying a bicycle. How do you know this is the one you want? $500 is too large of a purchase not to research to find out if this is exactly the make and model of bike that will fit your needs. This shop is too expensive. The customer service is horrible." So now I'm arguing in the shop about how it's a bicycle, not a car, and doesn't require 6 weeks of research and 3 bids before purchasing and it's been about 8 minutes of me completely obstructing a walkway and I STILL haven't gotten staff to acknowledge my existence. My husband eventually stormed off to prove to me via Google that $500 is massively overpriced and that his Italian bicycle was not dumped and then refurbished by UC Davis student slave labor which is why it was only $200. At that point I would have bought the bike outright without ever throwing my leg over it if I could just find a human to help me but no one would meet my eye. 7 minutes later I gave up. All this drama could have been avoided with just ONE "I'll help you after this person" but the only time I got any acknowledgement of my existence was when I was mid-fight walking out the door. Maybe it was just a bad day for them, but boy did it turn what should have been a fun experience into a miserable one. read more

I'm pretty worried reading these reviews of people that bought bikes like myself that were supposed to be in the store but didn't see a bike for months. I have had good past parts experience that was great so I bought a bike here online. It was supposed to be fine by tomorrow but not a word from anyone. So I'll see if I can hopefully give them a great review if my bike shows next week. I think they should not say a bike is in the shop unless they can confirm it. read more

Was really disappointed, because I try to support and promote local businesses whenever possible, but lack of follow through on their end made it very difficult. I had a great encounter with one of their sales reps, and I put a deposit on a bike. The sales rep indicated they had the bike I was interested in at their warehouse, and that I should have it in 5-10 days. 10 days came and went, so I called for an update. They indicated it was still at the warehouse, but should be shipped and arrive by Friday (2 days later). Friday comes and no word from Summit Bicycle, so I decided to stop by and find out what's up. I spoke to another sales rep on the floor, and told him I had ordered my bike a few weeks ago, and wanted an update. The sales rep looked up my order and again indicated it was still at the warehouse, but would call the warehouse for more info. After about 10 minutes he returned to let me know that the bike was still at the warehouse, but I should be here sometime next week. No one ever indicated why it hadn't shipped, just that it hadn't. Because of this, I withdrew my deposit, and will seek to purchase my bike at another bike shop that has the ability to follow through. I would normally give poor service like this 1 star, but gave them two 2 stars, because each of the sales reps I interacted with were very kind and knowledgeable, and this issue had more to do more with the store's lack of organization, and not that of the sales reps on the floor. read more

My first experience with summit has been pretty terrible. The extra star is only because the staff there was actually helpful and super nice. But I ordered a bike through summits website back in June the same day a family member of mine ordered his bike through their website and we ordered the same exact bike, just different size. He gets an email 2 days later saying his bike is ready to be picked up. I decided to call the summit warehouse to check the status of my bike and they tell me that they don't see it there, so it's gotta be at the store already. So I go to summit on the weekend just to give it a shot and see if my bike is there since my uncle got his. I get to the store and they're having trouble finding my bike and after about 20mins they come up to me with a bike that isn't mine. It's the same model I purchased but they're giving me the wrong color. Obviously that's not my bike so I don't take it. And they tell me the one I want won't be in stock until the end of July since that's when they're supposed to get a big shipment of Trek bikes. Okay that's fine, I have a bike I can use in the mean time, I can wait a month. Around late July, I can't get ahold of the warehouse or the store so I decide to go to the store and see if my bike is there again. Once again, no luck. The employee helping me tells me my bike will get there that next Monday, Thursday the latest (since they were closed Tuesdays and Wednesday's at the time). So I go there that Thursday when it's supposed to arrive. Again, my bike isn't there. So the employee calls the warehouse since it's been over a month and had the warehouse give me a call back. I receive a call from the warehouse and they finally tell me my order has been lost. They say they have another bike there that I can get but I have to pay the difference. And the difference is another $600. I say no, so they said my bike is back ordered and I have to wait until October. I decided to keep that order and look for my bike at other stores in the meantime. And I was able to find my bike at another store, finally. I stopped by summit to cancel my order since I already have my bike and after a while of them checking the computer I'm told they can't find my order. Then they keep checking and finally found my order, but it was somehow returned. No idea how that's possible if I specifically told the employee at the warehouse that I did not want to cancel my order and he event sent me an invoice right after I got off the phone with him. So the employees at the store tell me to call the warehouse since they're the ones who deal with it. So I called and spoke with Mark, and speaking with Mark was like talking to a wall. I wasn't getting anywhere with him until I started to get upset on the phone. After Mark decided to be helpful, he was able to find my order and give me a refund back. So after all this trouble of going to the store and trying to get ahold of someone there and at the warehouse, it's hard to say if I'll ever look to purchase through Summit again or refer someone to it read more

I came in with an Older Specialized Demo 8 that I have been riding for the past four years. I had an issues with my crank set and needed to rebuild my front Fox 40 Forks. I purchased an new crank set online, not thru Summit Bicycles. When I installed the bottom bracket, and then installed the cranks. The Spindle was a bit longer than the original crank I had. I called a few shops around my area and brought in the bike and the other shops didn't have much interest in helping me because of the age of the bike. They didn't even wanted to take a look or give me and advise on what to do. I called Summit Bicycles, Chris answered and I mentioned to him my situation and informed me to come over to the store so he can take a look at the bike. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, patient. He was able to fix my bike, and I also performed the front fork service for my Fox 40 and bought a new chain ring and thru axel that was already worn. When you have people like him, makes me want to come back and service my bike with them, they do not make you feel like you need to own a 1k,3k or 15k bike to come talk to them and for them to give you advise on your bicycles services or needs. I've called several times during my 3-4 months wait for my bike, and still have yet to get a phone call back. Emailing them was always frustrating because they had no idea or information on their warehouse shipments because "it has not been processed in their system." I finally called other shops and they gave me answers that was better than "I don't know." Got the bike I wanted from another shop and for longest I've been trying to cancel my order and receive a refund. Save yourself the hassle and frustration and go somewhere else! read more

This review if for my order experience and it has been has been TERRIBLE so for. I ordered my bike 10 days ago and there has been no update since then. My card has been charged. I have called them like 10 times to check the status but not once has the call been answered. I left them messages and no one got back. So basically here I am, waiting and waiting not knowing when my bike is going to arrive. Bikes are now available in other stores but I am now unable to cancel the order I have placed. I completely understand it's a busy time but if you are not able to meet the demand, stop taking orders and don't charge customers and have them wait indefinitely. You can resume once you are capable of meeting the demand. The least you can do is to answer calls and provide an update. Everyone's time is valuable and you can't expect customers to try contacting you every single day for the service they are entitled to. Reading the other reviews it looks like I'm not the only person with this experience. read more

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. I was looking for bike for my 8 year old. He saw something he really wanted but it was boxed up. The staff was super helpful and accommodating in agreeing to assemble the bike within a couple hours so my son could ride it the same day. We returned later and it was ready. We were really happy until I got home and discovered that there was hardly any air in the tires... and one of the tires was installed backwards. I called them to let them know that they made a mistake and they suggested that I return the bike the next day to correct it. In the interest of time, I removed the tire and re-installed it. They really should have been much more safety conscious... especially for a young child's bike. read more
