Glad they have reopened for dining in. Just came and had their banh beo, nem cuon plate that you make yourself. They never skimp on meat and filling in their rolls unlike another famous restaurant for nem rolls. Service is always good here. Their Thai tea is amazing. Their Vietnamese coffee is strong so I'd recommend asking for more cream if you like yours lighter. Really enjoyed ourselves. They will be closed 8/1/23 to 8/31/23 and will reopen 9/1/23. This was a restaurant that we've been before and was looking forward to it! Everything was fine and we had already finished with the food that was served to us then we realized that x2 orders of Summer Rolls we ordered were not served. We thought that was odd since that was usually the first things to be served. We notified our server and was under the impression that we would get them shortly. We waited for another 10-15 mins and then we started to see other people getting their Summer Rolls. We notified our server again and he went to check for us in the kitchen. When he came back he told us that their system went down for a bit and the tickets were backed up. Which was fine and we waited more... After seeing more folks and delivery pickups getting the same items and our server still doesn't realized that we still have missing dishes... so we asked him for the 3rd time he acted like it was the first time... that's when we asked them to cancel the Summer Rolls and bring us the bill. The bun bo hue was pretty tasty but it tastes different from what I'm used to. My friends and I loved the banh beo (savory steamed rice cakes) that has some crunchy croutons on them! So good. Been coming here for years and we had typically placed orders to go to enjoy the rolls experience at home. This particular experience we placed an order for to go and paid. The staff was nice and there was no issue until we went home and my family noticed one of the order was missing. We immediately called and they instructed us to come back to pick it up. I've been coming to Summer Rolls ever since I was a kid. Even back before when it was under a different name LOL. Their food is so good, super delicious, even during the pandemic. At the moment, they're doing takeout only, but hoping it re-opens soon for dine-in! We usually order the nem nuong (non-wrapped) so we can wrap everything at home ourselves. Makes the entire experience more fun and you can add whatever you want into your spring roll LOL. The portions are huge and we usually get a lot of rolls out of one order. It comes with the skewered meat, fried eggroll skin, lettuce, herbs, picked veggies, etc. Everything you need to make a delicious spring roll. We also add an order of the banh hoi (rice vermicelli topped w/ shrimp powder + green onions) too. Usually when we dine-in, we order a bunch of banh beo to enjoy as appetizers, but we though it might not be as good by the time we bring it home, so didn't get to try it. I also love that they gave us a whole container of the sauce LOL, the dipping sauce is honestly my favorite part. It just ties the whole spring roll together and they're generous with it, so you can go crazy with it. Can't wait to go back to eat Summer Rolls again when I'm in the area. I love their Bun Bo Hues. I have dined in here twice before the pandemic & feel in love with their vermicelli dishes and bun bo hue. During the pandemic. I always order my food over the phone & sometimes you have to call in a several times for them to answer your call -- they are busy! They have social distance signs taped on the floor. Picking up was easy but sometimes there is a line to pick up/order. After picking up my food, I usually heat up the soup and cook my noodles for a bit longer because I like to have my noodles soft. Their Bun Bo Hue usually come with two pieces of pork knuckles, meat, and a few-several pieces of pork blood. Their soup is only a bit spicy which is perfect for me. Summer Rolls is a really great place if you're looking for Vietnamese food other than pho. They offer a variety of different dishes - rolls, rice plates, noodles, banh beo, banh xeo. Obviously their summer rolls are a must. It's what they decided to name themselves so you better order them. I prefer these way over egg rolls any day because rice paper gives them such a good chew, and you still get a good crunch from the fried wonton roll they put inside each roll. I also love the sauce it comes with. It's a disturbing thick orangey sauce but it tastes so good with the roll! I think it's made out of ground/dried shrimp. I also love their bun bo hue. This is my current favorite place to get bun bo hue. They've nailed the soup. It's a really flavorful light broth of pork/beef and lemongrass and it's one of my favorite soups on earth. Their beef shank is also really tender and beats Nha Trang's meat (inedibly chewy). I've also had their banh beo which was pretty good. Their banh xeo was okay though, the crepe got soggy fast though and it just became extremely messy to eat. read more

I have always loved brodards spring/summer rolls, but because of the distance it's rare to make a drive out there. They serve all kinds of rolls and vermicelli, but the only noodle soup they serve is bun no hue. Service is polite and they have a lot of workers so they're very attentive. Lines can get long during rush hours so expect a wait. Parking is horrendous. This one has the full menu while our eyes get bigger than our stomach. Beating the dinner rush so plenty of seats but don't count on Wi-Fi around here. I like the dish that has the rice noodles and salad with the different meats in it. On a hot summer day, something without the hot soup. Eating with family, we keep ordering this omelette looking dish, and summer rolls. One with tofu skin and another with pork sausage that resembles spam. Summer Rolls is a family favorite of mine!! It serves authentic Vietnamese food and the pork chop broken rice dish is my favorite. The pork chop is soft, tender and tasty without being dried out and the fish sauce (garlicky) tastes amazing with the broken rice. The steamed rice cakes are soft and flavorful. They put the croutons on the side so sprinkle them on and add fish sauce (no garlic). The spring rolls are filled with delicious red pork meat, crunchy egg rolls, and refreshing vegetables and add some sauce (yum). The quality and quantity from this restaurant is very satisfying and it is not overly priced (rice dish is still under $10). I really like this place and comes here regularly. For me, the must orders are 1. Bun Bo Hue, 2, rice cake with grounded shrimp (banh beo), and 3. the nem nuong (bbq pork with crispy shrimp spring rolls). I also get the penny worth drink, but that drink does have a certain acquired taste. These are the most tries on my opinion. The taste is very consistent and price is acceptable. Anticipate tight parking and long wait. I only have two issues with this place and they both have to do with the Banh Beo. But they are more of my personal opinion though. First, the amount of grounded shrimp seems to be getting less and less each time. When I first came here back in the days you can't even see the rice cakes... and grounded shrimp is what gives the lovely water fern cakes that flavor! Second, the restaurant uses croutons instead of pork skins. This is just a personal preference, but to me the pork skin just tastes so much better than croutons on the cake. If you don't agree, try the ones at Quan Vy Da and you'll know what I'm talking about. These are two very minor things but to me it does make a difference to the overall taste of the Banh Beos. Quality of service is aiight depends on who you get. You will however, always get your food fast. Me love myself some fast and quality viet food when hungry! I like coming here for nem nuong more than Brodards. Parking is a little tricky because it's a small lot. And it's cash only! The place is mostly clean. I haven't had to wait too long to be seated since I come for early dinner or early lunch. I got the #18. The portion is pretty large. I asked for a togo container and split it into half because I knew I wouldn't finish it. They gave me a container of fish sauce without me asking. It was very good! I also like the banh beo (#22) here. Highly recommend. Don't have to drive all the way to westminster. In my other visits here, I normally get nem nuong dac biet which comes with the different meats and you wrap it yourself which is fun. I work in the same plaza as summer roll and always get #5 on the menu. The little crunch shrimp roll inside is what makes their spring roll so tasty. But the roll is fried so you don't want to wait too long to eat the rolls if you get them to go like me. After an hour or so, the crunchiness will be gone. :( glad this place is so easily accessible to me. And also that they have another location just couple miles south/north of each other. I've been here quite a lot, both during covid and non-covid times and this place never really disappoints. I'm going to be honest, I'm just a sucker for the lemongrass chicken spring roll since it reminds me of the backyard barbecued grilled meats I had from a friend's house. That, and the nuoc cham is infused with jalapenos inside to give it that extra spicy kick to the already herby chicken. Each bite is really, truly an explosion of flavor .. unless you only catch the noodles or vegetables itself. I'm from Seattle and I know we have a lot less Vietnamese places than Cali, but in my opinion, the nem nuong was amazing. Great flavor and perfect char. The banh hoi was also cooked just right and had the right amount of chew. I think what truly brings it together is the crab/shrimp sauce mixture that they give you. So savory and so flavorful! (COVID-19 review) I have heard about Summer Rolls for quite a long time now but have not been able to stop by until yesterday. What a wonderful to-go experience and the packaging of the individual rolls is out of this world! One tip: Make sure to order ahead by phone because when I got there, there were tables upon tables full of phoned in orders. They are busy! I was very fortunate that the male employee, who I think is a manger or owner, provided me with a to-go order of 1 order of Pork Rolls w/ Shrimp real quick! Their service is efficient and friendly. That is a huge plus in my book. Okay... how are these spring rolls compared to Broddard's. I feel like they are both similar but also yet different so I do not think they should be compared to each other at all. Yes, they both have a fried wonton skin inside but this one has shrimp wrapped inside of the wonton skin. The sauces between the two establishments are also very different. Summer Rolls does not have chive inside its rolls. The rolls here are also a bit pricier but I wonder if it's because of location, the shrimp, or the quality of the ingredients used in their dishes. Overall, very delicious and I hope to come back to order other dishes one day. I love a good vermicelli dish among others. It was only until I got back to San Francisco that I found myself craving banh beo (steam rice cake topped with ground shrimp, sauteed onions, and croutons). Initially, I thought the banh beo was just okay. But I found that I actually really really like it! It's delicious with the fish sauce and light in flavor. We also ordered their nem nuong (pork summer rolls with shrimp egg rolls). I've actually never had a spring roll with an egg roll inside so I found that quite interesting. Yes, the nem nuong rolls are so delicious and yummy at Summer Rolls, but it's the rice plates that makes me keep coming back! Upgrading my previous review of Summer Rolls from 4 to 5 stars!!! There's definitely a countless number of Vietnamese restaurants in the Rosemead, San Gabriel, and Alhambra area offering a wide variety of rice plate dishes, but Summer Rolls is above and beyond at the very top of my list! My favorite rice plate to order is the Charbroiled Pork Shoulder with Shrimp Cake with Crispy Bean Curd and Shredded Pork. For about $9.50, it's definitely a pretty good amount of food! Every time I go, however, I always plan to eat just half and save the other half for another meal, but I always end up close to finishing the entire portion since it's always super yummy and delicious. There are plenty of other rice plate options, and all plates range in price from about $8 to $9. Summer Rolls is definitely a favorite lunch place for my coworkers and I, and we often all order nothing but rice dishes. Service has always been friendly and welcoming at Summer Rolls, but you might have to flag a wait staff member when it's super busy, especially at lunch. I always order the pork and shrimp summer rolls. Lately I've been ordering 2 orders of the pork and summer rolls bc I always find that 1 order leaves me wanting more. The new 2 order habit has been going fantastically. I just snack on those tasty summer rolls all day long, or I have some extra to share with guests who drop by. I don't know what they put in that orange dipping sauce, but that sauce is pure magic.
