My mother an I attended this venue for lunch, she purchased a tuna melt. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are always friends chatting over a salad on a warm day here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything in the window looked amazing. Quick and friendly service .

I've been here twice now - the first time we got chicken tenders and fries. This time we got pizza instead. It was decent both times but nothing incredible - especially for being located so close to so many other amazing spots in Berkeley. Maybe the bakery stuff is better than the food!

Well first my brother ordered a chicken tender dish with a side of fries and instead of tasting like chicken it tasted like fish! The texture of fried fish was the exact same texture of that so called chicken tenders! Plus the BBQ pizza had a small hair in the pizza! You guys are probably gonna be like"ohh it's probably yours!" Well it wasn't! It was in between the toppings and the crust! That is the worst! Not approved by me 1200000%!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Summer Kitchen is a very cute restaurant that focuses on farm to table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The ingredients are fresh and high quality and they offer a variety of dishes spanning across their lunch and dinner menu. My coworkers and I came for lunch and we made it right before the lunch crowd. Although there was no line when we ordered our meals, it took over 20 minutes for our sandwiches and salads to be delivered to our table. I would love to come on a weekend lunch, although I am now wondering if take-out is the move. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is small and limited, offering a few tables indoors and outdoors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got the steak sandwich and thought it was delicious. They bake their bread in-house and you can tell -- the ciabatta was soft and fluffy. Their specialty also seems to be their pastries which I ordered two to-go. The marshmallow brownie was disappointing, the torched flavor of the marshmallow was too overwhelming in my opinion. The chocolate cake was fantastic though, the filling in-between the layers of cake was light and airy as opposed to it being too rich.

I came here for lunch with my partner to try a new restaurant down on Elmwood! I have been eyeing Summer Kitchen for a while, and was excited to try it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is pretty small with limited indoor seating (as all other restaurants on Elmwood) but there are also some tables outdoor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is very bright inside, with a nice display of their pastries too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You order at the front, and they bring you the food when it is ready. I got the Brentwood Salad with Roasted Chicken, and my partner got the Pulled Pork sandwich. Overall, the food was okay. It was good and very fresh, but nothing too phenomenal. The meal was so pricey, however, and was not entirely worth the cost. Regardless, I'm glad I was able to check this place off my bucket list!

Was in the neighborhood strolling around and was looking for a quick bite before a movie. Had totally forgotten about this cafe style restaurant and decided to pop-in. Was primarily drawn ro the pastries but again I came on to get food and not sweets. Everything here looks good so and they have everything from brick own pizzas, sandwiches, salads to full on meals. There is both counter seating and tables available so you can gander at the foods as it's being prepared. Especially like watching the brick oven pizza as it's being created and pulled from the brick oven. Decide to get the crispy chicken sandwich which was so good and a dessert to go, a huge oreo style cookie sandwich which was sorta pricey at $11 but it was huge and weighed about 5 pounds - lol ! I wanted to order some more food as I saw several dishes being served to others. Will definitely be back and will add this spot to my favorites list.

Good but pricier food. I got the Chinese Chicken Salad. Great portion. Super fresh. Perfect dressing ratio. It's normally hard for me to justify buying salads instead of making them but I was really craving salad. Ultimately, I was happy with my decision. I want to come back to try their sandwiches and pizza. Everything looks good. A lot of vegetarian options on the menu too. Food was ready fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Super cute "farm to table" vibe interior.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Nothing extremely special about service. I'll definitely be back after cooking at home and saving up money to come back.

I ordered chicken tender, but it tasted like fish which is im not a big fan of fried fish. When I let the server know they said we dont have no fish here they said. They better change the oil or something. Didnt give us any refund or anything

Summer Kitchen is a delicious gem of an eatery in Berkeley! Farm-to-Table fresh everything; specially prepared sandwiches -I had the Reuben-delicious & crispy, spicy chicken dipped in panko, with special sauce to bring a smile to your face! Do try the salads & fresh salmon to tantilize. House-crafted baking reveals pastries that will have you in ecstasy! Service is fabulous & the friendliest people ever! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance in this cozy, warm, friendly & delicious eatery named after Martha's Vineyard kitchens![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Friend of mine is a local and loves this place. I went for the crispy chicken and he had a Rueben. Honestly, for the food and how packed it was I lean towards a 4 star but when a local says it's the best spot on a packed block I recognize I'm probably missing something. The pastries and baked goods looked excellent. The staff was friendly. Good amount of seating but very little room between tables.

Always hits the spot when I'm craving a sweet treat around Rockridge/Elmwood! My go-to is always a slice of cake because it's GIANT and lasts me a good week or more in the fridge. The frosting is super decadent is the cake is moist. The baked goods always rotate and the staff has incredible recommendations for what to grab. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is a bit small, but I usually take my treats to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Definitely recommend checking out if you're in the area!

One of the best restaurants in Elmwood (4/5 green stars) It's so easy to walk right by Summer Kitchen without even noticing it. It's a narrow shopfront with just a few tables outside and it's easy to miss as you ponder ice cream and other offerings from neighbors. Well, take it from me - forget ice cream and get a baked item from Summer Kitchen instead! Or try a pizza, or an egg salad sandwich - possibly the best egg salad sandwich you'll ever have. But if you are limited for time, try one of the fresh fruit pastries (galette) - they seem expensive at $12 but they are big enough for two and totally worth it! I'm giving Summer Kitchen 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. The positives are obvious - most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Everything is made from scratch and there is transparent sourcing of the meat and fish (Mary's free-range chicken, etc.). There are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options and you can definitely find some vegan dishes too (salads, sandwich, pasta). Summer Kitchen could make the biggest environmental impact by scrapping beef from the menu - replacing it with plant-based alternatives, ideally. Beef has a carbon footprint of around 10 times that of chicken and over 100 times that of pea protein, on average. If everyone one the planet ate 1 lb. of beef per week (the US average), total greenhouse gas emissions would increase by one third! I'll write a post illustrating all of this soon on the Green Stars Project. So I really appreciate that Summer Kitchen makes more effort than the vast majority of restaurants on improving sustainability so that's my suggestion for the biggest opportunity for improvement - cut the beef.

You can select between 4 different items should you choose this appetizer. We ended up selecting the smoked duck breast and chicken pâté. Both of these options were excellent with the duck breast coming topped with a small amount of flake salt. These starters were also served with crostini, mustard & pickles, and a fruit spread. The mustard provided some nice balance to the richness of the proteins. Additionally, we ordered a little gem salad which was solid. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but good. For my main, I went with the chicken thigh. The thigh was cooked to perfection with an excellent crust and rich sauce surrounding it. The meat was tender and flavorful. I also think the charred vegetables added an interesting bitterness to the meal. We both ordered dirty martinis which were also excellently balanced (extra olive juice of course). Overall, our meal was excellent. The food was good and the vibes were right. Our servers were attentive and friendly. I've heard word that Wood Tavern will be closing down soon unfortunately. Go check them out while they're still around if you want a solid meal on the fancier side.

I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will not be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. The price of their sandwiches is in the $20 range, but the quality and portion make it totally worth it.

He found the ribs to be fall-off-the bone tender, with potatoes that were more whipped than mashed alongside a carrot puree. I, on the other hand, had the New York Steak and au gratin potatoes. Though I wanted to enjoy my entree, I found the New York Steak to be unfortunately chewy and with too much fat. The au gratin potatoes could have had more crispy layers but tasted mediocre. We ended up getting bottles of champagne for the mimosas at the table before settling in and ordering our individual meals. I ended up ordering the chive scrambled eggs. As soon as you walk in, you're hit with the smell of a campfire from the oven. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with an Art Deco design. The ambiance is cozy but elevated. Benedict (buttermilk biscuit, dungeness crab cakes, marinated swiss chard & beet greens, herbed hollandaise, poached eggs & mixed greens): I'm not a huge benedict person because they can feel heavy, but this one was fantastic. I loved the textures and flavors of the crab cakes pairing with the greens and vegetables. It felt balanced and not too creamy or exhausting to eat. It definitely stands out from the run-of-the-mill brunch benedict. Vegetable Hash (roasted sweet potatoes, garnet yams, sunchokes, cauliflower, cremini mushrooms, celery root & onion, savoy spinach & poached eggs): This was also delicious and also set itself apart from the standard brunch hash. I loved the different vegetables in it besides being just potatoes and onions. The mushrooms and root vegetables worked really well together. Everything was well-seasoned. I'm glad we ended up choosing these dishes even though neither were my original top choices (I decided on the menu with my friend). It made me feel like you can choose anything and it'd be a banger. We were quite full from these dishes, and we forget we also ordered beignets to come out last. They were fluffy and mostly air (but not in a bad way). The service throughout the meal was good. We were checked on from time-to-time and our waters were refilled, although I wish the water glasses were a little bigger. One small thing to note was that we were given the check while we were still eating, even though the restaurant was still seating people despite it being close to closing time. Unsure if/why we were rushed like this. Overall, this was a memorable brunch spots I've been to in the Bay (dare I say one of the best?). We left smelling like a campfire. I would recommend it.

We decided to split the Little Gem salad($14) with the brokaw avocado(+$3). When it was set in front of me, I was immediately drawn in by the fresh aroma of the dill and sweet lemon. The cipollini dressing tied everything together beautifully. The flavors were bright and fresh and delicious. The pan fried rock cod sandwich($23) was amazing. The cod was tender and perfectly cooked with a golden brown crust. The crispy shaved lettuce was combined with pepperoncini, green onions and were mixed together with a tangy remoulade-which balanced beautifully with the crusted cod and the soft acme roll. My guest had the burger and fries($28) cooked medium rare. The burger had a delicious slightly charred outer crust while staying juicy and pink on the inside. The Russian dressing added to the juiciness and was a perfect combination with the aged white cheddar cheese and soft sesame seed bun. The waiters at The Wolf were professional, friendly, and highly attentive. They were spot on with everything to ensure we had the perfect dining experience. The Wolf is definitely a Bay Area gem. I highly recommend this amazing restaurant for special occasions or for just a really delicious meal in a beautiful setting.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

There was no wait time and we were able to get a table. The server was very sweet. I am vegetarian and was looking for veg options. She went through the menu with me and helped me think through. I got the vegan spicy tomato pizza and my friend got the shakshouka. We also got some herbal tea to go on the side. The tea came out pretty quickly and tasted great. The food also came out pretty quickly. The presentation of the pizza was top notch and I could not wait to dig in. The portion size was adequate. The vegan cheese was yummy and the spice level of the pizza was just right. The pizza was packed with flavor and thin crust! My friend liked the shakshouka too. He said it was flavorful and tasted great! Over all, we loved this restaurant. The ambiance is very welcoming and they have farm to table concept. If you are looking for a nice restaurant with farm to table theme, look no further!
