Super friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. The lunch menu has plenty of options to choose from to include cold and hot apps as well as platters and sandwiches. If you have the room there's a delicious assortment of Turkish desserts. This was my first visit. I tried the halloumi as an app and a platter for my main. Both were delicious. I forgot to get a pic of the halloumi but it was pretty close to the halloumi I've had in Cyprus. The platter was fantastic. The sliced meat, rice, yogurt, and salad was super tasty. What a great find in downtown Cville! It's only a short 2 block walk to the pedestrian mall and you couldn't ask for a better Turkish restaurant! We had a party of 7 on a Sunday evening and had great service and food! Loved the following dishes: Iskander kebab-yummy! Mantu-must order these if you are here! The traditional Turkish cheese wrapped in phyllo-really tasty-ask for a side of honey if you like a little sweet with your savory! We were in town and wanted to go to a halal place to break our iftaar and decided on Sultan Kebab. The restaurant was quite large with cultural paintings and mosaic art work displayed on the walls. The staff was pretty friendly and overall the place felt comfortable. We ordered 3 combo dishes and shared amongst 5 and it was filling. The texture and flavors of the food were subtle and not overpowering but delicious. The flavors were just perfect. We also ordered Turkish tea and Turkish coffee. I loved the Turkish coffee. It came in a miniature cup, just enough fir a few sips but it was very good! A must try! The kanafe was small portioned but very sweet, cheesy, and buttery. I enjoyed it. I ordered delivery from Sultan Kebab on a Sunday evening around 6:30 pm while staying at a hotel nearby. I ordered the lamb shish kebab platter and the kunefe for dessert, and was given an ETA of 30-ish minutes. My order actually arrived a few minutes early, which was nice. The lamb shish kebab platter came with a generous amount of food, including rice, salad, and hummus alongside the lamb. There was also a separately wrapped piece of bread; I appreciated that it was packaged separately, which prevented it from getting soggy. The lamb and the hummus in particular were really flavorful. The kunefe was still delightfully warm when I got it. I wasn't sure what to expect as I'd never had a dessert resembling kunefe before, but it was really delicious. I managed to take care of the whole thing myself because it was just that good, but it could definitely be split between 2 or 3 people. The portions were very filling and the food was fresh and well-made. It was a pretty pricey dinner, almost $25 after tax (excluding tip and delivery fee), but I enjoyed it and would be happy to eat from here again. read more

I love turkish food, but this place didn't hit the spot for us. We ordered: *baked hummus: This was interesting but ultimately bland and there wasn't enough bread for dipping. The turkish cheese on top was the star of the dish for sure. *Adana kebab: I was suspicious that they were making adana with beef instead of lamb and my concerns were valid. If you've never had lamb adana, this could be nice, but given what I was expecting, this was suuuuper bland. What's weird is, there is lamb on the menu elsewhere - why not use it here? The meat portion was generous though. The side were some kind of couscous and white beans. I had turkish white wine with my meal, which was nice. Not overly sweet. My husband got the iskander and it was a little overcooked and we weren't in love with the very straight forward tomato sauce on top. My initial thoughts are the lamb is exceptional but the chicken is dry and lacks that robust flavor. My friends and I came upon this place after taking a quick hike at nearby Humpback Rock. I can't speak for the rest of the group, but I was hungry after the hike and wanted something filling. Also, my experience with Turkish cuisine was pretty limited, so I wanted to explore a little. The Combo platters were a good option for just that giving you a choice of two meats + a side salad, hummus, rice, and bread. I chose the Adana/Sucuk combo. The Adana was well seasoned with a texture like Kubideh, while the Sucuk was sausage-like, although cut in pieces, with a paprika tang that reminded of chorizo. As for the sides, the hummus was solid, side salad was crisp, and the rice was flavorful. My friend got the Iskender Kebab platter and loved it as well. I tried it as well and liked the flavor, especially the tomato based sauce on top. The only complaint: the bread was placed under the meat, which gave a false impression of the amount of meat + caused the bread to be soggy. We also had the dolmas, which were flavorful, but presented awkwardly on the plate (could have used a smaller plate). We finished with the kunefe and all enjoyed the requisite cheese pull from the mozzarella. Overall: Rock-solid Turkish place (almost as solid as Humpback Rock), with minor misses in presentation. read more

Best donor I've had in years. This is the kind of restaurant you visit on vacation that makes you wish you were a local. They didn't serve a bad dish. There's plenty of seating, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is outstanding. The grape leaves appetizer was seasoned wonderfully. The sandwich was served warm, the bread was absolutely delicious, and the shrimp was clearly fresh. The decor in this restaurant is beautiful. There are murals and paintings that are really stunning and make the atomosphere fun. I enjoyed something different than the typical brewery/bar vibe that's Charlottesville seems to be overflowing with. I was very excited to finally try this place. The servers were quick and nice. Lamb Shish Kebab Platter- their was a bit of strange taste to the rice. Almost like it had been burnt or cooked in a burnt pan so that kind of tainted the platter. The lamb was slightly overcooked as well. The salad and hummus on the plate were very good. I would not recommend this though as the lamb and rice should be the stars. Sigara Borek- An appetizer that's a soft cheese rolled in a dough. I enjoyed this. The cheese was not one that I had tasted before (and I love cheese). If I went back I would like to try a different appetizer. Overall, the food was okay. The price is good for the food portion. I suppose they tried to make up for this by adding a lot more rice, which was fine, but the ratio was way off. I would have been happier paying more for more meat. - the meat we did have was great! As were many of the vegetarian salads that came with the veg platter. - The salad of shredded romaine lettuce was undressed and skimpy. - The hummus was not great. One of my favorite place to eat at in Cville! It's usually hard to impress me with middle east/mediterranean restaurants since I grew up eating it at home, but this place even impressed my mom! We ordered black tea to start off and while it was strong I loved every sip! My sister also ordered an apple tea, and it was very new to us but just as equally enjoyed. We decided on a whole bunch of appetizers: dolma, pilaf, borek, and lentil soup. The dolma here was honestly the best I've ever had at a restaurant; the flavor was absolutely amazing. The pilavi was definitely the least favorite for us but was still great. The borek cheese filling was super rich, and the filo dough was perfectly crunchy. The lentil soup was puréed but still had a great texture and spice to it. To close we got some kunefe and it super delicious. We loved that it was freshly made, and the sweetness level was just right. In terms of atmosphere, this restaurant is beautiful and for a Monday lunch, pretty busy!
