This cute place is run by great people. Hasan was very friendly and welcoming. Thank you for making us feel home, Hasan. We will be back! :) The food was very tasty and the atmosphere is extra cozy. 5 stars

Great find in Charlottesville on our way home from DC! This is a wonderful little Turkish joint with fresh and tasty food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is also beautifully decorated and it was so quick! The staff were very kind. I had the Chicken Wrap with fries. Outstanding! The dip that comes with the fries is amazing. The portions were huge! My friend had a salad and really enjoyed it. It was the perfect size for a super hungry diner. Cannot recommend Otto enough!

Build your own bowl with beef

I tried their build-your own bowl with beef, and really enjoyed it! I like the concept of being able to pile what you want into a customized bowl. The meat was well-seasoned and although slightly chewy, it was a generous portion. The vegetables and toppings all had great flavor and seemed fresh. Great sauces as well. I also tried the baklava, half of which was pistachio and half of which was walnuts. They were slightly soggy, but still tasted good. The service was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and we didn't have to wait long to order and get our food. It's a fast casual set up where you order and choose the toppings at the counter, then find your own table. The space was clean, there was plenty of seating, and the only tricky part was finding parking. Thankfully, we found some street parking a few blocks away, so we didn't have to walk far.

The ambience was very nice in the inside! I got the ottobun which I pictured in the photo. It was very mediocre - I figured it would be more flavorful and succulent but it kind of tasted like a basic pita sandwich with chicken and vegetables. Maybe if I would have gone with the bowl or loaded fries it would have been better. The server and owner seemed very nice and were helpful in the selection. Just think the food could have been better.

Steak Ottobun

Visited on a Wednesday during Happy Hour. It was nearly empty so our food was ready pretty quickly. I was glad to see many flavors of Bold Rock, including the seasonal ones. It's Charlottesville so that's unsurprising but nice nonetheless. Food-wise, I ordered the steak Ottobun, rosemary fries, and baklava. My guest order brussel sprouts but to my advantage started to get full so I commandeered them. Everything was tasty and flavorful. I see why this place is so popular. My only gripe is the steak itself wasn't as hot as I would've liked. It was lukewarm at best. After I finished dining, I noticed the happy hour discounts hadn't been applied, but they apologized and promptly refunded me for the difference.

This is a counter order restaurant with bowls and wraps - like a Turkish chipotle. The food was fresh, the service was as fast as it could be while we waited to order behind a family with four indecisive children. There were several small tables to enjoy your meal. There is no fountain - all drinks are prepackaged - and they gave some unique soda offerings along with your typical Cokes. My bowl was loaded with toppings and really tasty, especially that celery sauce (which was like a tzatziki, garlicky and creamy). A bit off the mall, but a nice quieter option if you're looking for dinner before a show or a movie without the noise of the mall.

Otto is definitely famous in the neighborhood! It was hard not to notice that nearly everyone who crossed the street seemed to be heading there. Their food has a flavor that truly transports you to the streets of Turkey. The location is beautiful, with lots of open windows that let you enjoy both the food and the atmosphere. Our one-year-old absolutely loved the servers, and so did we. The crew was super friendly, making the experience even better. We highly recommend this place!

My partner and I picked up two meals a day in advance to take with us hiking the next day. They held up well, were great serving sizes, were balanced nutritionally, and incorporated lots of fun flavors. We didn't eat in the building but people were nice when we picked up and our order was ready on time.

I'm on a work trip to Charlottesville and I was pleasantly surprised to find an authentic Turkish restaurant here. Service is too tier, and the ambiance is really nice!! Cute art of Istanbul and cats everywhere. Love that they also have Turkish drinks!

Chicken Doner wrap

Wanted to try something new for lunch and found Otto Turkish Street Food via DoorDash with $0.00 delivery fee! I absolutely loved my wrap! Chicken doner, rosemary fries, pickles, and sumac onions. The chicken was tender and well seasoned. Will definitely be ordering again, excited to try more menu items! *updating my review after trying Otto again and finding my perfect order Otto earns another star. My new go to: chicken doner wrap, red cabbage, fried eggplant, cucumber pickles, ezme, tahini, arabesk hot sauce and a side of fries with tzatziki. Ordered via door dash again, everything came nicely wrapped and packaged. My favorite place to order lunch from!!

You can pick and choose if you want it in a pita or a bowl

SERVICE We came in for a belated Valentine's Day dinner,…read moreand the staff immediately seated us when we got int. Everyone was friendly and professional without being too formal. Our server served us waters and let us peruse the menu. Most spots will have the waiter come by and ask you how things are, and our waiter didn't come by at all after setting down the food which was interesting -- not good nor bad but probably were also busy. AMBIENCE The space felt upscale but still easygoing, which made it perfect for our Valentine's night out. There's no dress code, but most people looked like they'd put a little effort in, matching the polished but comfortable vibe. Loved the open kitchen all the way towards the back by the bookshelf area gave the room some energy without making it feel noisy. Definitely struck a great balance between date-night fancy and laid-back cool and casual. FOOD We started with the Beet Salad Ribbons and the Meze Trio. The beet salad mixed earthy ribbon-sheet beets with hazelnuts and a bright pomegranate vinaigrette that surprised me! Loved the pairing of the beets and cheese and hazelnut crunch. As a texture fan, this really hit the spot! It was colorful, fresh, and really well balanced. The Meze Trio had charred eggplant, a yogurt-goat cheese dip, and a seasonal hummus. Each had its own flavor and texture, and everything felt super fresh and well-seasoned. Favorite was the seasonal hummus. The yogurt-goat cheese dip was good but definitely sweeter than I personally perferred! The Calamari was also quite good and had decent number of chunky pieces that weren't just breading. The only small letdown was the pita bread since we had more dips than pita left. We expected refills might be complimentary, especially for a place like this, but they weren't. Not a big deal, just something that stood out in an otherwise smooth and thoughtful experience! The Manti Dumplings were a highlight too -- probably so much handwork in making these look like they do! The Sharondale mushrooms gave them a rich, savory flavor, and the pepper butter sauce added just the right touch of spice. The burger was also great -- juicy, flavorful, and paired with house fries and an amazing urfa pepper aioli. You could tell both dishes were elevated but still comforting, showing off the chef's fine-dining background in a really approachable way. For dessert, we shared the Baklava Cheesecake and a Chocolate Hazelnut special. The cheesecake was unique -- cheesecake filling sandwiched between baklava. It was delicious but not what I was expected! It was creamy and nutty with pistachio layers, and the chocolate dessert was incredibly rich without being heavy. Both were perfect finishes. We even took home the leftover goat cheese dip because it was that good. Overall, pices were a little on the higher side ($23-$29 for mains, $14 for dessert), but for the quality and thought put into every dish, it felt worth it and would come back again for a special occasion! This was definitely elevated ambience and the food was well executed in our opinion. I can see the hype! Definitely not a spot I'd frequent often but for the special days -- this is it to impress your date or family!

We recently enjoyed an amazing beet ribbon salad and hamachi with melon and Meyer lemon. They were stand outs! We also enjoy the octopus and mante dumplings. The octopus could have been a bit more tender. We love the place as it has many healthy options with tons of great flavor. Previously I had also tried the dips which was outstanding. I do wish they were served with pita but the bread is tasty. The baklava cheesecake is also a great ending! We didn't have room this time but we will be back again! The prices are on point for the qualify and what we are used to. Positions are appropriate for the price. The staff is very friendly and they coursed the plates properly for us. In a sea of many French and heavy restaurants... Definitely put this on your must eats while visiting for a welcome change.

I tend to go here with family when we visit Charlottesville and have other things to do in town…read more(catch a UVA game, movie, etc.). Even when they were very busy, the wait for a seat is rather short. It's mainly four-top seats but they can push together tables as needed. There's music always playing and not a lot of padding to soften noise so I'd call the location "average" loud. Downtown Charlottesville doesn't really do free parking. You can park at the next corner in open parking to the left or paid parking to the right. But we're talking $2 or so, not a bank-breaking experience and with lots of shopping across the street it's worth staking out a spot and then walking the area. What I like: The food is tasty. The appetizers are solid. There's a large enough menu that you can always try something new. And the portions are ample enough to share. What I'm not so fond of: The waitstaff spend a lot of time at the front scrolling on their phones. They aren't too keen on refilling your drinks either. I say this as someone who has eaten here about a dozen times. Also, I don't normally mind cameras, but there are enough blinking lights on cameras to make it feel more like a jewelry store than a restaurant. That said, if you are not in a hurry, want some good food in solid portions, and plan to do some shopping or window shopping downtown, this has been my go-to place for years.

Usually I wait until I've tried a place a few times but I feel comfortable making a review based on my first try since 1) their catering had a variety of options so I know it wasn't just one dish that was bad and 2) I couodnt imagine spending my money to give them a second chance. Really. It was this bad. They catered an event I attended today and I had pita bread, hummus, dolmas, chicken and squash shish kebabs, pasta salad and Greek salad. Every. Single. Dish. Was an absolute let down. Chicken was completely dry and flavorless. I threw the rest of it away. The pita was so dry it crumbled and I couldn't eat it. Surely the hummus would help boost the chicken and pita? Wrong. The hummus was basically ground chickpeas with no other flavor. The pasta salad just tasted like plain pasta with oil. Nothing else. The dolmas were decent (but it's grape leaves and rice, how can you mess it up??) and the green salad was ONLY good bc there was some feta to put on top. The dressing was just straight oil no other flavors. I can't comment on their ambiance, I'm not sure if you can eat inside since it was catered to us. Maybe the place is nice but I haven't been there so I wouldn't know. This is the worst meal I've had in awhile and I do not recommend their food. The others at my table all said the same thing, we were not impressed. Would not recommend.

My husband and I close this restaurant to break my fast. We were greeted quickly by the hostess who led us to booth seating, and gave us menus. There was no need though, as we had already spotted the all-you-can-eat buffet. We requested only water to go with our meals; she quickly brought a carafe of chilled water and two glasses. This is a generous buffet with many selections for a complete meal, from soup and salad to dessert. There was a good variety of both meat and vegetarian options. Our FAVORITES included the fresh mixed chickpea salad (the chick peas, cucumbers, tomato, onion, parsley); lamb curry (which featured tender boneless and tender meat); rice pilau with raisins and carrots; borani badenjan (eggplant curry. Tip: drizzle yogurt on this);; bamia (okra) curry; firnee milk pudding (dessert); and the addictive dooth pati chai (spiced milk tea). There were also some items that we didn't enjoy as much but were still good. For instance, the chicken kofta meatballs, while nicely spiced, were very dry. And, the nan bread was disappointing. (There were also many additional good choices on the buffet that are not listed here). The ambiance in the restaurant is comfortable, with many paintings and decorations from Afghanistan. Some tables are in a side room, ideal for small groups or privacy. We noticed, but didn't visit, a downstairs shop with Afghan carpets and other goods. Plus, there's a shop on the side that sells groceries. Parking is plentiful and free. The lunch buffet was $17.99 each, plus VA sales tax (6.3%), city meals tax (5.3%), credit card service free (3.5%), and tip (variable). There are cheaper options available if you order from the menu. We would return when next in Charlottesville.

I stopped in on the later side as Charlottesville's restaurant scene has a lot of early closings. Seeking a vegetarian combo, I ended up with a salad and a mix of potatoes, okra, and chickpeas, which were clearly cooked earlier and served cafeteria style. The dishes are vaguely reminiscent of Indian stylings but are not spicy. Perhaps this is why this place oversalts food (I've seen this with other Afghan places as well); I hate having to drink so much water afterwards. An herbal tea was an interesting flavor, and I got a decent amount of food for the money. Given the limited options for vegetarian food on a Friday night, I was satisfied, but the food could have been better.
