I love the falafel which can be hit or miss- taste, and texture was on point. A good variety of sauces or sides too. They even have beer! Otto Eats is amazing! If you're looking for a yummy and healthy Mediterranean option, this is the place for you. It's right on the outskirts of Cville's downtown mall. If you park at Water St. Garage, the first hour is free and not too far a walk from here. You can build your own bowl or order one of their signature ones. I got the Mezzie bowl with chicken and adored every last bite. My best friend got the veggie bowl and loved it. We were singing with joy from these meals. It was the perfect post wedding weekend meal. The people who work here are beyond friendly and super attentive. They were always there when we needed anything (boxes, bathrooms, etc). It's a casual environment. There is plenty of seating to dine in or you can take-out. I love all the Turkish art on the walls and the garage doors that allow fresh air in. Overall a great lunch spot. They have all the ingredients for a high quality and fresh Mediterranean style bowl at a fair price. You can easily eat here for less than $20, which all things considered is worth it. Basically, the chipotle style experience but with a homemade and quality ingredient components. I especially liked the mashed lentils, cucumber salad, roasted sweet potato and of course the chicken schwarma. Also the atmosphere is pretty hipster/industrial and contributed to the experience. The only negative I have is that the falafel was a little dry and chewy, but to be fair I got the last ones before they cooked a new batch. This place was so incredibly good. It really hit the spot on a rainy afternoon. I live in Richmond and wish we had one of these! We got a classic chicken wrap and a falafel pita ("Falaway"). The Falaway was our favorite - really tasty falafel with the amazing celery dip, no need to add anything extra to this one. The wrap we added on a bunch of the toppings but even then the chicken was still the star! Well and the yogurt sauce - yogurt sauce always makes things better. I wasn't sure what to expect since the counter service feels like a chipotle, but why would anyone go to chipotle when they could come here?! read more

I tried their build-your own bowl with beef, and really enjoyed it! I like the concept of being able to pile what you want into a customized bowl. The meat was well-seasoned and although slightly chewy, it was a generous portion. The vegetables and toppings all had great flavor and seemed fresh. Great sauces as well. I also tried the baklava, half of which was pistachio and half of which was walnuts. They were slightly soggy, but still tasted good. The service was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and we didn't have to wait long to order and get our food. It's a fast casual set up where you order and choose the toppings at the counter, then find your own table. Visited on a Wednesday during Happy Hour. It was nearly empty so our food was ready pretty quickly. I was glad to see many flavors of Bold Rock, including the seasonal ones. It's Charlottesville so that's unsurprising but nice nonetheless. Food-wise, I ordered the steak Ottobun, rosemary fries, and baklava. My guest order brussel sprouts but to my advantage started to get full so I commandeered them. Everything was tasty and flavorful. I see why this place is so popular. My only gripe is the steak itself wasn't as hot as I would've liked. It was lukewarm at best. It was very mediocre - I figured it would be more flavorful and succulent but it kind of tasted like a basic pita sandwich with chicken and vegetables. With so many choices, this little shop on the back of the mall might get over looked. One word: Don't. The food is absolutely wonderful. While the meat is not shaved in front of you, the doner is delicious. The amount is just enough. You shouldn't have left overs. This is a build your own bowl (or pita) spot. The Turkish styling means there is a great variety of options. Many of the toppings are cold, and while the protein items aren't necessarily fresh, I would say they had a small supply up front and were replenishing every couple of customers, and my falafel was fresh. Between the flavored rice (I think?), greens, and various salads and fixins my bowl was pretty well stuffed. If anything, I wish I'd gone for a little less variety, but it was an interesting bowl full of flavor and probably healthier than the vast majority of fast food. The shop is pretty basic and the drink selection didn't blow me away (I might have tried a Turkish beverage as I've been intrigued by Turkish sodas before), and I'm not sure it was quite as good as the glowing reviews, but it was a quality fast casual place for sure. read more

I ordered a Falafel Bowl-- Bulgur, Beet Salad, Celery Dip, Mixed Greens, Red Cabbage Salad, Fried Eggplant, Coban Salad, Lentil Ball, and Hummus with Tahini and Tzatziki. I wasn't impressed with the falafel. Compared to my favorite falafel spots in DC and NYC, theirs' lacked flavor and didn't have a great bite to it. I felt like the falafel mixture needed more herbs and spices because of the lack of strong flavors from the chickpeas. Even with the sauces I felt it was missing its own standalone flavor. It definitely wasn't the best falafel or falafel bowl I've ever tasted. However, the fried eggplant and red cabbage salad were fresh and really good. My friend ordered a beef döner wrap and it was one of the largest wraps I've ever seen. The portions at Otto are definitely great for the price. Overall, I found my falafel bowl underwhelming. However, the ingredients were fresh and I like that Otto is a local business that brings Turkish food and culture to the area. The falafel was delicious and plentiful, and I was able to choose 9 other things to fill my bowl with. Standouts were: the eggplant, I LOVE fried eggplant; the sumac onions, and the beet salad.
