Stopped in on Saturday for lunch with our family of 5. My kids were enamored by the "fancy tables" which were semi private low tables on rugs where you could remove your shoes and sit on the ground. The restaurant name "express" made me think it would be ready made food (like chipotle) but the kabobs are made the order, so take about 15 minutes once you've ordered. However, they're worth the wait! Marinated well they are tender and flavorful. We were also pleasantly surprised by how large each entree was. We got the combo kebab platter (with lamb and chicken), the mantu (dumplings), and the bulani (like a potato filled naan). Would recommend all three! read more

Had food catered from here for the first time today courtesy of the Afghan student Association at UVA. For starters, Qalbali palau was amazing, there was great flavors of the chickpeas, and the dessert provided was awesome. They even gave us a whole other container of rice and the desert for free :)Good quality and authentic. Definitely recommend. read more

Best lamb in town and run by wonderful people. But portion is just simply not enough for me to go back. Also the non-meat aspects of the plates leave something to be desired, but it's a kabob place so can't really factor that in too much. read more

The chicken and lamb kabob was delicious! Really loved the flavors and tenderness of the chicken. Also amazing was the Afghani rice with carrots, raisins, and bone in beef. The naan bread was good too, possibly even more delicious if served warm. The portions were very generous and excellent for the price. All in all, a fantastic authentic lunch experience and hard to believe they have only been open a few days. Will definitely be back! read more
