Great spot to grab lunch. The platter was quite filling and fairly priced for the amount. When I went to pick up the order , the staff was friendly as well. My kebab meat was quite dry when I ate it. If it wasn't for the sauce I don't know if I would have been able to finish it. I think this is a place better enjoyed while dining in then take out. read more

I really like Sticks for some casual light food. I've tried the Falafel Flatbread Wrap, the Chicken Platter, and the Shrimp Salad. I do wish the servings were a bit larger for the price but the food is all very flavorful and cooked well. Also! I love their house made hot sauce. read more

This place has decent food. The lamb is chewy. I've tried it several times at both locations... the chicken is usually a little better than the lamb, but I'm always hopeful that it will taste better... I've decided IF I go again to either charlottesville location, I'll only pick up and take it to go. The reason for that? No one ever wipes off a single table!! It's so gross. Every time I've been in I've either had to ask (they stare like you're crazy and hand you a nasty wet rag to wipe it yourself) or I've lined a dirty table with napkins to be able to eat and not see the grease and dirt from the customers before me. Surprised that this place only has 3 stars, I was really happy with my lunch! I thought the food all tasted very fresh. It wasn't greasy, the salad wasn't soggy, and it was bursting with flavors! I ordered the salad with two sticks that included the falafel and chicken, and swapped for the cilantro lime dressing. The quality of the food is great either way. I typically get the 2 stick platter. I don't typically get the lamb, but the steak and chicken are both great choices. It's Autumn. Leaves fall from trees. You need to rake them, sweep them, or possibly blow them away. They're not a health hazard. Not a fall risk, unless they're wet. But it suggests to me that you don't care one whit about the appearance of your store. And it wouldn't hurt to wipe down the tables after diners leave. End of rant. Other than that, I mostly like Sticks Kebob Shop. Yesterday was my first visit to a shop with "Kebob" in the name. The first thing I noticed was that nearly all tables had crumbs & debris on the surface and/or on the seat. Ick. So I ordered a Platter with Fresh Herbed Chicken, Cucumber Yogurt Sauce, and [Fried] Onion Rings. After paying, I tried to find a clean table. The high-tops seemed cleaner than others. so I snagged one and sat in the stool that was bolted to the floor. Yikes! While the stool's pillar seemed securely bolted to the floor, the seat was decidedly not securely connected to the pillar, and wobbled with an unsettling looseness.. Two other stools I checked had the same wobbly problem. I had to settle for a less-than-squeaky-clean 4-top. My food came out on a slightly warped plastic tray with a sturdy plastic plate containing the food, the Fresh Herbed Chicken Kebob, White Rice, Onion Rings, Pita,, and a tiny Salad. The tray itself was also wobbly, but when I transferred the plate to the table top, everything seemed secure. I proceeded to enjoy my meal. Onion Rings first. Very good. I snarfed down the lot of them, about 6. The Fresh Herbed Chicken on the skewer was quite good. I wanted to eat each piece of Fresh Herbed Chicken with a bit of Rice, but the Rice was disappointing. No flavor, and it was clumpy. So I merely dipped each piece of FHC in the Cucumber Yogurt Sauce, which was very good, worth repeating. SKS has 3 locations, 2 in C'ville and one in the Richmond area. I plan to check out the Richmond store soon. Hopefully the personnel in that store will care more about the appearance of the store. And I sure hope they know how to cook Rice. read more

Decent food. Sticks is a fast casual restaurant, so it is ideal to eat there quickly and leave. I ordered a falafel wrap with cucumber yogurt and cilantro-lime dressings, feta, and onions. My wife and I love coming to Sticks. The Kabobs are always phenomenal, the rice delicious, the sauces flavorful, and the homemade hummus is some of the best I've ever had. I recommend getting a beef and chicken Kabob if this is your first time as both taste great and they are both safe options. The creamy cilantro lime sauce is also a great compliment for these two kabobs. The hummus you can get as a side will come with a few pieces of Pita bread (one Pita cut into slices) but you will more than likely want to order more pita for the amount of hummus they give you (it's a dollar for a few additional slices I believe). Make sure you get some of the spicy red sauce from the tall plastic containers from where you pick up your order as it is a great dipping sauce for your meal. The inside of the restaurant is clean, the outside area is alright though it's in the direct sunlight. Getting in and out of sticks can be tough due to the one way traffic flow and its proximity to a stop light. read more

So you go to Mezze , for an equally fast version but far far better-and move two steps closer to truth. Or kebabs at Afghan Kebab or Basil for sit-downs.... I honestly haven't been to the actual location that much, but have been on the receiving end of their catering services (which are excellent) many, many times. Everyone perks up as soon as they hear mention of Sticks for an office lunch! The location is clean and convenient on Preston, and they're reasonably speedy (might wait 10-15 minutes at most for your order to come out at a busy time). Most everything that a reasonable human might need to eat in one sitting is available for $10-15. In terms of food quality, I enjoy their hummus and roasted red pepper sauce quite a bit, though their pita can tend to be a bit dry. The meat and falafel options are fine--nothing too special, but yummy and fresh. Great option to take gluten-free or herbivore friends! Had a bad carry out experience at Sticks today. My son wanted Sticks for his birthday dinner. First they were out of fries for kids meal so we got rice that he didn't eat. All the veggie kabobs were so burnt they tasted awful. Got the wrong sauce with one platter and another was missing the extra chicken kabob we paid for. Sticks Kebob is my favorite fast food place in Charlottesville. The prices are low, service is fast, food is delicious, and portion size is large! Their lamb kibbeh Kebob is amazing! You can actually see and taste the pine nuts and the beef kebob is nice and chewy. My favorite side is the marinated vegetables. The olive oil and spices really accentuate the fresh sweetness of the vegetables. You also get to pick from a variety of sauces. I love the cucumber yogurt sauce and the cilantro lime sauce. Both go really well with the pita bread and the kebobs. The basmati rice, however, seemed a little stale. It was clumpy and a little burned. The onion rings my boyfriend ordered was not fresh and made with prepackaged frozen onion rings. Overall, though, I still really enjoyed the food. Service was pretty good. One of the servers messed up the onion rings, but he apologized and made us another batch instead of serving us soggy onion rings. He also gave us more onion rings to compensate us for our time. The restaurant itself is not fancy, but I do like their patio. Parking is really easy too, plenty of spaces outside of the restaurant. Overall, a nice place to grab a quick meal! read more

I used to really like this place and their hummus is absolutely the best. However the last few times I've been there they have gone to slathering their shish kebabs with tons of oil which has the nastiest flavor. They are also not cleaning grills correctly and food picks up a bunch of burnt stuff. Couldnt even eat my kebabs. They were literally dripping with oil and under cooked. I'll start with the fact that Sticks has been a solid "go-to" with us for years. Overall, we love the food and the convenience. It was a life saver during Covid. My 3-Star rating is more about the deterioration of the experience than anything else. I can confirm the many reviews about the in-store dining experience which leaves a lot to be desired. We mostly don't do it anymore b/c it ALWAYS means cleaning someone else's creamy-cilantro lime and crumbs off of the table before we sit down. Maybe this is a "Boomer" thing to say/expect but clean tables used to be a given. Let's just say that this isn't restricted to Sticks these days. Moving on. . . We always order take out now and while Covid was a difficult time for any restaurant, we're out of it now. The service levels and attention to details that might have slipped - understandable during Covid, have yet to be addressed. For instance, about 1/3 of the time, our orders will be wrong. We often discover this after getting home. So now, we check EVERYTHING before we leave the store to make sure the order is right. Another semi-consistent issue is that the chicken kebabs are not always fully cooked thru. Nothing worse than a nicely charred but "raw in the middle" bite of chicken. Not often - maybe 1 out of 10 - but enough to wonder "what the F?". Consistent attention to detail is becoming a bigger issue. Lastly, Sticks has recently moved from cardboard take out containers to plastic containers. I know it's a small thing, probably cost related but I'm at the point where I can't take anymore single use plastic. We try to reuse all of these 'to-go' containers but you can only use so many "Recycle!" you say. But come on. We all know what happens to that plastic once it gets picked up in the recycling bin. Less than 5% of plastic actually gets recycled. The rest ends up in the Rivanna River, on our streets, in the ocean and ultimately, in our bodies. Why the switch Sticks? Let me end by saying that we love the food! It's delicious. But the attention to detail - or lack thereof - is starting to lose us. I tip 20% every time we order take out. I'd like to think that for the cost of the meal and a 20% tip, I could count on the right order and cooked thru chicken. Perhaps my expectations are too high. But if I have to take it in a plastic container, you've lost me. Is that an unreasonable Boomer expectation? Maybe. But so be it. "Do I contradict myself? Very well then . . . Everything tastes fresh, and is properly seasoned, and the service is quick even when the line to order is out the door. I almost always order an extra side of hummus to go so that I have some to snack on later. We've ordered their Pick Six (6 kebabs, rice, two large sides, salad and flatbread) on more than one occasion when we've had friends over, and they could not get enough! I've only ever eaten at the Preston Ave location, but we've ordered take out from the one Abbey road and had the same great experience we usually do. Overall, highly recommend! read more

We've been going there for years and liked the food a lot. But the last two visits make us wonder if they have new management or a new chef. Last night, we found the rice tasted old as if it had been cooked the day before. The meat was cold if it had been left out for awhile. We called to place an order, picked it up fifteen minutes later and ate it ten minutes later. It was not a good experience. It was not a good meal.
