Sorry, I have to knock them down a star because they have fallen off. They were better a few years ago. Almost every time I order bowls for delivery they are missing multiple toppings. I seriously have placed orders and probably a year has gone by without a single order being correct. The protein has consistently fallen off and I've gotten skimpier portions with dry meat. The corn salsa recipe has changed and is completely flavorless now. The last time I ordered the bread was barely baked and coated in disgusting amounts of flour. Spicy hummus was also chunky with unblended chickpeas and barely any flavor. Just not the same quality or care for the food as they used to have. The price is still like $15 a bowl and the portions are massive but tbh I just don't know if it's worth paying for anymore. Really tired of bland food with missing ingredients. read more

This is a delivery service review - directly from their website: I waited over a month to write this. But this place is the worst. They are very understaffed - apparently so understaffed that nobody returned my 5 voicemails left over the course of 2 weeks. I had to call the Henrico location to speak to a GM about the horrendous experience and incorrect order, and I was told the CVille GM would call me back and offer a refund. That never happened. Go in to the store to ensure your order is right. I had broken my ankle and couldn't drive and trusted the Mezeh website and delivery service to get it right. My order was never refunded, nobody picked up so that I could get the right order delivered instead. So very disappointed. Every time I have gone in person to order out or eat in I've been very happy with the food and service. So just be weary. Maybe order through grubhub or DoorDash so you can get your money back, as Mezeh won't do a thing and there is no customer service email or number to provide feedback. read more

It is good, and I can appreciate the variety of micro nutrients and halthier alternatives to our known traditional fast food options. Positive review, but I was as little disappointed to see the chicken portion of the mezah classic. I bought the felafel classic and the mezah classic, and to make sure the main proteins (felafel and chicken) were proper, I purchased the boost option for both bowls. So should have been double chicken and felafel. I wouldn't have felt justified complaining about the felafel bowl or the portion (was true double and what was expected), but the chicken portions were pretty sad in my fair opinion. The additional chicken was placed in a separate container. At first glance, just looking at said container, I thought it was light, considering I paid about $33 for two bowls (same price each). When I sat down to eat the mezah classic (with the double meat) at the end of the day, I noticed that the amount of meat in the bowl, was about a 4th of the amount of chicken that was in the separate container that I thought was light. I could see my self purchasing the felafel bowl again at some point, and maybe explore some of their other options. We need places like this as alternatives to less healthy options, but I would like to be able to rely a little more on reasonable expectations of portions (excluding felafel bowl - no complaints, and haven't explored other dishes). I think this review is fair considering the said price I paid, but maybe I should be a little lighter with my constructive criticism considering the variety of micronutrients as a convenience purchase without breaking the bank, as that's something worth appreciating. For a chain, this food was really good! Even for a non-chain place, I'd be impressed. Mezeh is essentially the Chipotle for Mediterranean food. There are so many toppings to choose from. I decided on the bulgur with vegetable base, couscous topping, crunchy chickpeas, caramelized eggplant, tahini sauce, chickpea salad, shredded lamb, crumbled feta, Turkish yogurt dip, and chicken shawarma. The bowl was super tasty, and not that expensive given the more than adequate portion and extremely high quality ingredients. You can taste and even see the freshness. The staff was super efficient as well, and the inside of the restaurant is quite nice. The shredded lamb was the perfect texture and was extremely flavorful. I enjoyed the chicken shawarma as well (they also had a spicy variety). The Turkish yogurt dip was refreshing and didn't have an overpowering cucumber flavor. The eggplant was a bit sweet and almost creamy; definitely delicious. Chickpea salad was super fresh, and the crunchy chickpeas were also a great textural addition. Even the base had some carrots and raisins in it that contributed to the flavor. They even give you free pita with a bowl, and it was fluffy and perfect. All in all, this is a great place to get lunch or dinner if you want some Mediterranean food. There are so many options to choose from, and the prices are quite reasonable. Vegetables of every color such as deep purple pickled beets, neon orange carrots, and turmeric stained cauliflower add a variety of flavors, textures, and visual appeal to every bowl. Similarly, the seemingly endless condiment selection includes creamy charred eggplant baba ganoush, three varieties of hummus, and at least 5 sauces. You start by picking a bowl, wrap, or pita pocket. Then you proceed to pick a base, meat, toppings, and sauce. What sets Mezeh apart is that you can literally order anything you want. If you can't decide on a base, it doesn't matter- you can mix as many as you want! I mixed 3 different bases, and they weren't stingy either. For only $10, you can completely fill a bowl of whatever ingredients you want without any additional upcharges. I essentially ordered almost everything that they had to offer. In addition, customer service here is superb. I can't say I've experienced better customer elsewhere often. The staff took the time to explain everything to us and even made suggestions what to order or what to mix. They allowed us to try certain things before ordering if we weren't sure. They also have a couple of different juices that's included in just a regular soda price. And a side pita comes with your meal free of charge! I asked for a cup for water and they gave me bottled water instead (free of charge) because their water machine was broken. I had received an offer for BOGO bowl in my email earlier. My order was a build your own bowl. My protein was chicken shawarma in a brown rice base. Their falafel isn't bad if you prefer a vegaterian option. The chicken is juicy and not dry. The flavor provided just a hint of spice that I amplified the flavor. As for toppings, I included Turkish salad, roasted corn and vegetables, hummus, pita strips, feta cheese, and cucumbers. I love the dicotomy of the hot chicken and rice with the cool toppings. All bowls come with pita bread. Most of the time I can fill up on the kids bowl, I only ordered the regular bowl today due to the offer. It's important to support our restaurant businesses now. You pay after selecting your items and then have a seat. The service behind the counter was very good with smiling faces and helpful attitudes. The overall place was clean and kept up. The food tasted very fresh and of course how the combination hits your taste buds depends on how well you picked your items :-) For a spicy flair, I'd recommend the rice bowl with basmati rice, shawarma chicken, couscous, veggie mix, spicy hummus, carmelized eggplant and harissa sauce. It took me a while to finally visit Mezeh after living in Charlottesville for a while, but once I did, it's hard to keep it out of my head! I really like Cava, but I do agree that Mezeh provides more bang for your buck. The only thing I've tried from Mezeh that I wouldn't get again are the Turkey meatballs. Stick with the lamb, or pretty much any of the other proteins. The turkey was too dry and not as flavorful as other options. Their kids bowls are great, too, for our toddler, but for $5 you get a huge serving which is really like three meals for him still. Always good to have leftovers though! I usually make two meals out of my bowls, too. Usually I get brown rice and bulgur as my base, I switch up my protein based on what I'm feeling, then get a whole lot of toppings. I stick with the regular hummus, the spicy mixes in to make me feel like It's covering up too much flavor from the other ingredients. I MUST get the caramelized eggplant--I'd eat a whole bowl of just that if I could. I ask for all the "pinks and purples" (as I call their in-house pickle selection) and then top with tzaziki and harissa, to get the cool and the hot balance. Yum! The quality of food is the only reason why you got 3 stars. It was delicious and tasted clean, appeared fresh, etc. There were so many options to choose from. Areas that could use improvement: 1) Menu Clarity--this place does not have a menu board explaining options and how much they cost. Also, it would help if every item offered was labeled in some way to speed up the ordering process. 2) Service: the woman who first helped me in line was abrupt and rolled her eyes with attitude when I humbly said "I'm sorry, I haven't been here before. Could you assist me with how things work here with options/cost?" The unwarranted attitude right off just turned me off and she didn't even answer my question. This made me wonder if she even wants to work here. ‍ Had a menu with pricing been posted above, I wouldn't have even had to ask her this question. She probably gets asked this all the time, but it felt like her reaction was unwarranted. 3) Pricing: $35 for two is a bit steep for food, without beverages. I didn't go crazy with toppings, because I obviously didn't know how much each would be, since my aforementioned question remained unanswered and I didn't feel like raising my voice to the woman who showed me an attitude for asking anything. Conclusion: Fix item 1 and you MIGHT actually solve both items 2 and 3. If I knew exactly what I was coming out of here paying, without having to scan a QR code and go to an easily navigable site, with a simplistic menu, I might not be uttering a single cautionary word here. read more

I stopped in for lunch while in town for a couple of days and wow, I loved this place!! It reminds me a little bit of chipotle on how you order but the food was so much better! The lamb was tender and well seasoned and they had so many vegetable options to add. I wish they would open up locations in Colorado! I would eat there all the time. read more

I am giving Mezeh 3 stars. One for good customer service, one for cleanliness, one for convenience of location. I rank Mezeh 2 out of 5 on the VegScale™, which is my personal rating system for how vegetarian-friendly a restaurant is. While I appreciate that they offer falafel as a protein source, meat-eaters get a pile of meat while vegetarians are left with four, puny falafels. But, to be fair, the puny falafel is quite tasty. Another thing that vegetarians count on when ordering a falafel bowl is having a number of wonderful sides to add to "fill out" the bowl. Mezeh used to offer sundried tomato salad...and they took it away. I can understand that decision, given the cost of sundried tomatoes. The next topping to be lost for me was Israeli couscous. Now - they still have the Israeli couscous but they made a horrid decision to add currants to the couscous. It would be so easy for Mezeh to add currants as a side, separate from the couscous, for those who want that particular flavor in their bowl. But the currants are so ubiquitous in the couscous that there is no feasible way to pick them out (for those of us who want it to be a purely savory dish). And now today - they discontinued the carrots. There is simply no explanation for that decision because carrots are dirt cheap. Because none of the other sides appeal to me, my once-loaded bowl was reduced to falafel, chickpea salad, and corn. That's a pretty thin and boring bowl and it left me hungry. This is a real bummer because I work across the street and ate at Mezeh all of the time. Mezeh - please take the currants out of the Israeli couscous and bring back the carrots and I'll come back. But for now, this vegetarian will be heading elsewhere for a falafel bowl. read more

The food here is great! Delicious and made to order. I love that you can build up your bowl with as many ingredients as you want for no additional cost. My biggest gripe is that it's not very hospitable when you dine in. Could have a nicer seating area and in the summer, they're weirdly stingy with the AC (seriously - it was set to 81 degrees) and the staff has no way to control it. Let me first say Mezah is one of my favorite places to eat. After my experience today, I do not think I would be back anytime soon. We stood in line for 10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged, after being looked at multiple times. Secondly, majority of the toppings were out. After leaving the checkout, I headed where I found AT LEAST 10 flys flying around the drink station, which completely grossed me out. We had a difficult time finding a seat because everywhere was dirty. After cleaning off our own table, we proceeded to eat. It got to the point where I was feeling grossed out: the tables, flys flying around me ect. I then went to the bathroom and got even more grossed out. A COMPLETE MESS IN THERE. Decent and offers way more choices than Chipotle at similar prices. However, be warned that the choices may be overwhelming! Recommend looking at the menu ahead of time to decide what you want and how best to mix and match. The vegetable toppings are unlimited as far as I'm aware. Mezeh's meats are fresher and they also have lamb. For the sauce choice, I highly recommend getting cilantro dressing. If this is your first time, best tip I can give you is to get the sauce of your choosing on the side, just in case you don't like it and therefore wasted the meal if it was lathered on top! This place is basically a Mediterranean Chipotle. You get to pick whatever meats, veggies, sides, and sauces you want in either a rice bowl, salad bowl, or pita pocket. The portion size and food quality are fantastic and the prices are low. I especially love the shredded lamb as the meat! It's super tender and juicy as well as flavorful. The caramelized eggplant is also amazingly delicious. The pita bread is super fresh and always served warm. There are lots of veggie options and sides to pick from as well as specialty juices.
