I used to love Mezeh, especially because of their spicy lamb and caramelized eggplant. I would have given them 4 or 5 stars, but the last time that I went over a month ago, the customer service was so terrible that I've decided not to go back. The last time that I went, the lady behind the counter gave me only two pieces of caramelized eggplant. I nicely asked her for more, and reassured her that it would be my last topping. I'd also noticed that there was more eggplant in the container, and an entire tray of eggplant right behind her. She looked down in the container, saw the eggplant, and told me with a wide grin on her face that she couldn't give me any more because there was none left. I was aghast at her lie and decided not to argue with her. Later after I had already paid and left the counter, she ran up to my friend and gave her more eggplant. In the end, my friend had six pieces of eggplant even though she had not asked for more. I don't understand her reasoning for this kind of behavior, but found it very childish. They've also replaced their spicy lamb with "shredded lamb," which is a tougher, chewier, and blander preparation of lamb. So sad. In addition, when we went to grab utensils, all of them were placed on the metal counter in a disorganized, dirty mess. We grabbed the topmost utensils and cleaned them before using them. read more

Came here for the first time and really enjoyed it! The restaurant is clean and modern and located in an upscale shopping center with a lot of parking spaces. The food is very similar to Cava (like a Mediterranean version of Chipotle) but there are many more options for customization. There are literally dozens of possible combinations! I got a mixed bowl and added many different toppings - all of which were fresh and pretty flavorful. I thought the diced pickled radish was a little strong and that the harissa sauce was heavier than anticipated. For the protein I got the chicken shawarma which was good. Overall, I thought the bowl was delicious. It is a pretty large portion but since the ingredients are healthy, I didn't feel as bad inhaling the whole thing. It also came with a pita bread on the side which wasn't as greasy as some other pita breads I've had (a good thing, I suppose). I thought it tasted good dipped in the harissa sauce (it worked better here than in the bowl in my opinion). Went in on a Wednesday night to pick up my online order. There were 2 people ahead of me, one was picking up a catering order. There were only 3 employees on the floor. Two were prepping food and one was managing customers. The catering customer asked if she could have bowls (they hadn't included them for some reason??). The employee seemed annoyed by this request. Went to chat with the two other employees for literally several minutes (mind you, us two other customers were still waiting) and finally gave her some bowls while acting completely put out by the request. Meanwhile, we can see the manager in the back not helping and listening to a podcast loudly-like, I could hear it out front. My online order was about 15 minutes later than guaranteed online. The low rank is for the SUB acceptable bad attitudes which seem to abound here. Too bad, because the food is really really good. But the line kiddos have bad attitudes. The redeeming person was the sweet young lady at the cash register. The others were clearly not happy to work here. This is not the first time I've been there and was the recipient of the bad attitudes. On this particular visit, the ice maker was not dispensing ice and whoever was in charge did not attempt to find an alternative solution to this problem. I always go to Cava but decided to give this a try for a change. It's in Stonefield with plenty of parking and lots to do. It's the same concept as many fast casual chains - fully customizable assembly line food. Their Mediterranean bend is more "authentic" in my opinion, with more Middle Eastern options like tabouleh, Israeli couscous, babaganoush and caponata. You can get a bowl, flatbread wrap or pita pocket. The portion size was generous with lots of additions and toppings available. Prices were reasonable - $10 per person. I've always loved mezeh but this time I went to mezeh a few days after going to cava by barracks and realized the HUGE difference in taste, quality, options and portion size. First, mezehs meat is incredibly well seasoned and tasty. I usually get the chicken kebabs but this time I tried the steak and it was cooked to perfection and incredibly well seasoned. So damn good. Second, the topping options at mezeh are vast, fresh and so much tastier. I typically get the spicy hummus, Turkish salad, tabbouleh (one of the best I've tried), couscous, feta, roasted corn, cabbage slaw, and pita croutons. These are only less than half the topping options you can choose from and that's already double the options you can get at cava. And they're all so tasty and actually Mediterranean. They're harissa sauce hits the spot! Side note: most if not all of their selections are vegan (the falafel is the veg/vegan protein option). Hello Perfection!!! Mezeh is my new go-to quick, fresh, no-fuss takeout option that feels relatively healthy and chocked full of incredible flavor. Full of more options than I can wrap my mind around, I usually get a mixed bowl (half greens/half grain - brown rice) and then pile almost every single thing available on top. My favorite protein option is the spicy lamb, followed in close second by the falafel which is moist and flavorful. The cilantro hummus is fantastic, and the caramelized eggplant is off the charts delicious! Digging through a Mezeh bowl is like an archaeological dig of the most delicious variety. I love excavating little pockets of deliciousness (tabbouleh! couscous! pickled onions!) along the way. The fresh baked pita is incredible, too! I'm a fan because the menu allows the individual to build their own dish and each grain, protein, and side choose is bursting with flavor and wonderful spices. I ordered the rice and salad bowl with chicken shawarma and went to town on the sides. I'm pretty sure I selected every side because frankly, I love Mediterranean and if it's all included in the price, you bet I'm going to load up. The chicken was tender, smokey, and complimented the spicy vegetable sides, pickled onions, feta, cucumber/tomato, olives, hummus, and the ever favorite tzatziki sauce. It was in short: delicious. The interior of the restaurant was also really spacious, bright, and did a great job including orange hues and modern elements with exposed lighting and floor to wall wallpaper. It was a mix of lounge and cafe. This would be a great space to meet with friends or to host a large group as there is a lot of seating available. Logistically, a menu board above or to the right of the serving counter would have been useful as the card stock menus to the side of the bar were not easy to quickly reference, especially if there was a line. It would also be extremely helpful to have labels for the sides and sauces along the counter with little notes such as "vegetarian, spicy, etc." would also help with answering a lot of questions from first time diners. This place is a near exact copy of Cava Mezza, a chain of fast casual Mediterranean restaurants around DC. That wouldn't be a problem if they had actually done a good job of reproducing it. The hummus was stale to the point of hard pita chips breaking off in it. The chicken shawarma wasn't really shawarma but it did taste good. Three out of the four juice selections were nearly empty when we were there. The worst part though, which sparked me writing a review, were the two women who helped me and my wife. They were rude and unhelpful. Maybe it's not fair to compare them to a place like Cava but as far as service goes, it's like comparing McDonalds to Chickfila. People who like this place, if you're around DC/Tysons Corner area, you need to try Cava. I have never been employed by Cava or worked for them in any capacity but it's a local chain to me in DC and I hate to see them getting ripped off so poorly. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by the food given that I've heard that it's nowhere near as good as Cava. I would have to say though that it is just as good and even better in some aspects! I got the chicken kebab which was VERY tender and flavorful. There are also many toppings to pick from and I like how you can get sliced almonds, cranberries, walnuts, and pine nuts in addition to the usual Mediterranean toppings. The portions were also huge and they give you a free pita on the side without asking. One small thing was that by the end, all my toppings and dressings made everything a bit soggy but it was still yummy nonetheless. The dishes that I tried were all good, I actually preferred them over chipotle, the issue is that having so many options for toppings and sides, making the perfect combination without suggestions is not easy. You can overload your dish and make it less appealing, or you can miss out on the key add ons. Veggie options include tabouleh, turkish salad, pickled onions, cucumbers, and three or four types of hummus. I've tried several combinations and its all delicious! I really love Mezeh and their food - I think the options are always fresh and super tasty, but I've heard some people complain about strange business practices but never thought much of it. It's not a huge deal, but today a cashier gave me incorrect change seemingly on purpose, grabbing just two coins without looking at the correct amount. When I pointed it out, he shrugged and said, "did I do something wrong?" so I repeated myself and he said, "well, ****", and I paused and he shrugged again. In the end it wasn't much change so I walked away but the whole exchange seemed a little odd. Mezeh is a Mediterranean version of Chipotle. There are plenty of options (some might say too many!) for you to choose from to get the flavors that you want. They also give you a decent size portion for what you pay. The batch of vegetables that I had didn't seem to have the quality freshness that everyone has raved about in other reviews and conversations that I've had with other friends. It was still good, but maybe it didn't live up to the hype or maybe I just came on a bad day. I also couldn't really understand what the initial employee was asking me when I was ready to order. Food is not bad. CAVA is better, but this is a good alternative. The service at this restaurant, though, is awful. I watched the manager yell at an employee in front of a line of customers. When I didn't tip him for my take out, he rolled his eyes and then refused to speak to me anymore. I went back to ask for a water cup, and he scowled, rolled his eyes, and skidded the cup across the counter without saying a word. I have been here 5 times in two weeks and I don't even live that close. I am a vegetarian, and I prefer to eat real fresh food as often as I can. This place blew me away. For the price it's unreal. Even if it was much more expensive it would be great. For less than the price of a Chipotle burrito you can get falafel in a fresh baked pita and a ton of fresh *actually flavorful* ingredients. I came here when I was visiting my sister at UVA. It's the Mediterranean version of Chipotle. You pick your proteins, grains, veggies and sauce. The people preparing the food are insanely sweet and if you don't know something, they'll explain it for you. Big plus for having labels on what all is out there. I chose the falafel balls as my protein this trip ( I had the chicken with peppers last time because it's not spicy, it was very delicious!) Falafel balls are delicious as long as you get them fresh, and these were just made! I liked the hummus, tabouli, baba ghanouj, bulgur, and my absolute favorite was the caramelized eggplant! For the dressing I had them put half thahini dressing and the other half the tzatziki (i'm sure I have butchered the spelling!) I have not mentioned a ton of other toppings I had! Believe me there are a ton to choose from! Considering I can NOT eat cilantro they do have a lot of choices that don't have cilantro Thank goodness! I frequent this plaza for grocery shopping at Trader Joe's, so it is helpful to have a fantastic lunch option nearby. I've had Mezeh three times now, and I've loved it every time. With each bowl, I've tried a different combination, and so far I've loved the greens and grains bowl with kabob style chicken and all of the delicious toppings- like caramelized eggplant, cilantro hummus, and the delicious sauces. This is only a sampling of what I get piled on my bowl, but I think any topping here is absolutely fresh and delicious! Don't miss out on ordering a drink, too. Mezeh has unique options- not your typical fountain drinks. They have fresh soda made from a company that I cannot remember, and then they have fresh juices made in house. Then proceeded to have 1-2 things out in each location, with the lack of any sympthany or sense of urgercy it was meaningless to them. At the juice location there were fruit flys and flys everywhere swarming, it was absolutely disgusting. And then to put the cherry on top, the bathroom was absolutely foul. Never ever will I return there. I have been to the Richmond mezah location many times and it makes the Charlottesville one look like it should be shut down with a health inspector visit. Loved the selection and flavors. Brought back travel memories. I got a grains and green bowl. You start with your green, arugula for me, and added some dried cranberries, walnuts, chickpea salad and sunflower seeds. Choice overload...next I picked the lamb, tabbouleh. Finished off with more choices and tzatziki sauce. Loved the caramelized eggplant. Really like the cane sugar drinks, less sweet more like what you get in Europe.
