Zaxby's has cheap fried chicken and pretty good fast food. Unfortunately, the Mr. Beast box combo did not live up to my expectations and I left dissatisfied. The box was $12.40 (with tax) and came with four chicken fingers, an order of white cheddar cheese bites, fries, a drink, a Feestibles bar, and two slices of toast. I had high hopes for the feestibles bar, but it had the same artificial/waxy taste of Hershey's or lesser Easter-era chocolate. The chicken was very bland with little seasoning, and the fries were soft and flavorless. Even the toast was less than I expected, chewy but in a stale manner, not a fried way. The cheese bites were alright, but also lacked meaningful flavor and only contributed a different chewy/stretchy texture to the meal. I come here often enough to say they aways have fast service with a smile. Everyone is friendly and lighthearted which leads me to believe that the management is as well. The food is always hot and tasty. I know what I want and it's always consistent. I had a large order once that was incomplete. It out me in a bit of a bind but they were eager to make it right. I couldn't have asked for more. Though the floor is often sticky near the soda machine, it's otherwise clean. That includes the bathroom and most of the tables. The layout isn't great because it's such a tight squeeze by the soda machine, tea dispensers, cash registers, and napkin dispenser but otherwise it's a faithfully standard Zaxbys. Charlottesville bound! Recommended by a local so you know I had to stop by. I love a country style restaurant. The place was clean and the decor was eye catchy and trendy. The food, it was pretty mid. The sweet and spicy sauce on the wing didn't have any special flavor however, it was cooked and marinated very well. The cheese balls tasted like they only used flour and an egg wash. The chicken tenders though, were the star of the show. It had a golden brown finish and it was nice and juicy. My husband and I heard Zaxby's was doing a buy one get one deal on their Southern TLC Chicken sandwich meal, so since I'd never been to Zaxby's before we decided to stop in for dinner. First of all, I was impressed by the interior! You're really selling the place short if you only go through the drive through. The register and seating areas are done up in a much more design-heavy way than your typical fast food chain, and I thought it had a lot of character. Our service at the register as we ordered the two meals plus a kids meal for our son was very friendly and helpful, as we didn't know our way around the menu, being newbies. Our food came out pretty quickly, and it was hot hot. I thought the presentation was a bit lacking as the sandwich and fries were just floating around the black plastic/styrofoam plate, but I was there to eat not admire art, so not a big deal. The chicken was very tender and juicy and, as I said, hot, and I thought the flavor in the breading was pretty nice, too. The sandwich as a whole was satisfying. A good classic chicken sandwich. As for the fries, they were well-cooked and tasty, but I thought they went a bit overboard on the seasoning myself. It was a good seasoning, but I only needed a sprinkle, and some of the fries were definitely coated. I will say that the kids meal seemed like a great deal to me, and the tenders my son received were nice and plump, too! A positive experience. At someone's request I would revisit, and I would suggest, for curiosity's sake if you haven't been yet, you should also try out Zaxby's. (If not only just to see their fancy interior!) So I went here, and the cashier was not collaborating with me because she kept talking me into other things and not doing the things I wanted. As for my order, I prefer my boneless wings with extra ranch, and they were overcharging me for this. It was already horrible when the cashier was rude, but then they charged a lot and overpriced their food, they charged me $50 for ranch and when I finally got my food, it of course did not come with the ranch I requested, but also the chicken tasted kind of raw and looked pink or had some blood in it. Everything came out warm and had decent flavor, but just wasn't anything that special. It was under $10 for all that; toast, cole slaw, chicken, and fries, which wasn't too bad. The restaurant itself is pretty cool though, I really liked the layout and design of the dining room. I had a very weird experience. I've been coming here for awhile and everything has been fine, but tonight I came here and the window operator was being stingy about my drink. I didn't think anything of it, I took one sip and drove off. After about 10 minutes, I started to feel very weird and starting to have a panic attack. The meal includes crinkle cut fries (salted) and a drink. Counter service was extremely friendly and made a great recommendation. Being a NASCAR fan, I had heard of Zaxby's, but haven't had a chance to try it. We stopped in today to give it a shot. I'm not exactly sure why I've waited so long, maybe it's the location? I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the chicken sandwich. I had the Southern TLC which came with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Juicy from the first bite, it called me back for more. Zaxby's made me a Chick-fil-A customer for life! I had to lodge my third complaint with Zaxby's in the past year. On two prior occasions, I placed my order on the app 20 or more minutes in advance and when I showed up to pick up my order I was told I had to wait in the parking lot and they would bring it out to me. One time was over 25 minutes from ordering to receiving my food. They only have one ingredient Dash chicken - how hard is it to keep enough cook chicken going at lunchtime to fill two salads? Previously, you could go through the drive-through window to pick up your online orders, now online orders are treated the same as delivery drivers and you have to park get out of your car go inside Most recently, I ordered two salads through the app and was called a few minutes later by the location telling me that salads were not available due to a lettuce shortage. That's fine, I get it, things are really crazy these days. But what was truly crazy was when I asked for a refund I was told that I would have to apply for one through the app. They couldn't fill my order, and it's up to me to go into the app and navigate their customer service disaster to request money for a meal they couldn't deliver? No thank you. Fortunately for us in Charlottesville, Chick-fil-A open the barracks Road just a few weeks ago. And it's three blocks closer to my office then Zaxby's. Now when I order a meal on the app, it's ready by the time I get to the drive-through - and I don't have to go inside to pick up my food! Soon after they first open, I went by there to grab breakfast and they were closed because of a water or power issue. I didn't even order food but yet they handed me a gift card for a free breakfast sandwich on a future visit because of the inconvenience. I didn't have to go onto an app to ask for the gift card, they just handed it to me and apologized at the time for being closed and disappointing me. My wife calls and asks Zaxby's if their dining area is open, and the lady says that it is closed, but that they can't turn us away. We go inside, order, and then eat about half of our meals when this guy comes over and tells us, in a very rude manner albeit, "Our dining area is closed. Did you not see the signs?" "Yes, but we called before we came and asked if we could dine-in, and were told that we couldn't be turned away." We were halfway done with our food! Unbelievable! I was lucky to have my first experience here on a Wednesday at 2PM apparently. I can see how big wait times can be a problem when they are busy. There was almost no one eating there when I came in, and was surprised to see only two registers even designed into the order counter if I recall correctly. A nice older lady was really taking her time with glowing and flowing conversation with a family group of four with a toddler ahead of me...really taking her time, and no urgency from anyone else behind the counter to perhaps step up to the other register and take my order. Sadly that family with toddler allowed the boy to scream and shout nearly the entire time. He was not upset, he just liked his own voice like kids do...the parents didn't bother to even attempt to train the child for proper public behavior. Not one attempt at a "shhh"...people like this think their kids are adorable...and this paragraph of my review is aimed at those parents. Your screaming children are not even barely cute, any cuteness they have is negated by their nasty behavior and you ruin the space for everyone else. I have children, and you can train them for proper behavior even at toddler age if you actually "parent" and have any respect for others. This however is not the fault of Zaxby's and my star rating does not reflect this. Remember, on Yelp a 2 star rating simply means "I've experienced better". That's what I had to give for that kind of review. 3 stars means A-OK. Other than service and time, my review is ONLY for bone-in chicken wings because thats all I had. I am a low carb dieter, and was really happy to find "fast food" that served bone-in chicken wings without the breading the fried chicken places sell. Other than that, only the grilled or blackened salads are low carb that include meat (moderate carb actually), of course one must not eat the Texas toast for that and only the regular ranch, blue cheese and Cesar dressings are low carb. The low carb wing sauces are tongue torch and nuclear. The original sauce is not too bad but twice that of tongue torch and 3-4 times that of the nuclear. Actually the nuclear is zero net carbs because there is 1 gram carb and 1 gram fiber, making zero net carbs. I'll order that if there is a next time because I didn't find the tongue torch very spicy at all, but I love spicy food, so it takes a lot to burn me. The wings were overcooked. I fry wings at home...and I'm good at it, so this is fact. They have to pre-fry the wings to make them fast for re-fry and serve. Nothing wrong with that, and I do this at home now because it makes for crunchy wings with no added coating. If they didn't do this, it would take 12-15 minutes for each wing order just for the fry time. I've learned the second fry doesn't have to be long, I've made the same mistake they made on the wings I had this day. So, wings were good tasting, just overcooked. The lack of concern for speed at the ordering counter was aggravating. Price was just OK for 5 wings, not bad not cheap. An order of 6 to 8 wings would make a decent meal by themselves. 5 wings too little, 10 wings too much and if eating low carb (and they sell the wings in divisibles of 5), there are no sides that are low carb except maybe a side salad, the chicken salad is not too bad but would be redundant...chicken on chicken, and the buffalo chicken dip the same, and I think thats meant to eat with some of the other high carb sides to dip in. Positives are, the place was new and clean including the bathroom, and it was an easy place to get real, un-breaded chicken wings at a fast food place. As several reviewers have mentioned, wait times are extensive, especially in light of the fact that you're expecting your food to come out quickly. But I think it's understandable for a new restaurant, new staff, and obviously huge demand. Tons of drive through orders and a full restaurant. However, the quality of the food didn't seem to suffer. Really enjoyed all our chicken fingers, fries, and toast! The wings were my favorite; fried fresh and crispy. The salad was also very good and a great counterbalance to the horrifying calorie counts they show on their menus, haha.
