Yikes - I though the 1-star reviews for this location were nonsense until we were given the same treatment. We got to the location to eat-in at 7:30pm, ordered, waited, and after over 30 minutes of waiting, asked what the deal was. They hadn't started our order yet. There were maybe 4 other groups ahead of us, 2 of which hadn't received their food either. It was mind-numbing how disorganized the folks behind the counter were. Really cringe-y and tough to describe. If I had to describe it, 'train-wreck' would probably be the best word. We asked for a refund at 8:15pm, got one, and went to Chick-fil-A on our way home. This was in Fall 2018, so things may have gotten better (it is February 2020 now), but...this was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. It is a "fast" food restaurant, but it (and I'm not exaggerating) took over 45 minutes to get our food. We were so excited (and starving) when it finally arrived, and it was...awful. Really disappointed with this restaurant, was kinda looking forward to going there. Nothing impressive with their product, the chicken sandwich was just a thin chicken patty and the onion rings weren't even diced onions they were onion puree. I don't know what I was expecting but this place is nothing to write home about. Food and service were okay but did not stand out from any other fast food restaurant around. I guess I would rate this place as better than Bojangles' but not as good as Chick-fil-A. Prices also seemed a bit high for what you get. read more

I'm glad I did not look at the reviews before trying this new spot! The Zaxby salads also know as "Zalads" are very nice! The chicken fingers were light and crispy with a delicious sauce and really great tasting coleslaw. I ordered the meal "to go", but I didn't want the drink that was included. The young man, Elliot, who took my order, very kindly took time out to reimburse me for the beverage! Most fast food places don't bother to do this. I was very impressed with my service. The young man, Elliot, was very efficient, knowledgeable, extremely kind and had a great sense of humor. He and his manager, Bailee, both made my trip into Zaxbys a very wonderful and memorable visit! I'm not sure why the other reviewer's gave such low marks. Maybe in its early phase of opening they weren't fast enough or were lacking in their service department. Well now they are very fast, efficient and polite now, so hopefully people will give them a second chance. read more

Staff was polite, but 22 minutes to get my order is not acceptable!

I would give one and a half stars if I could. Of note, service was very friendly and I got my meal quickly. ( I should also note only 2 other people in the place which was concerning ). There was too much sauce (expected that to be spicy but it was bland) on my grilled chicken sandwich, lettuce was shredded instead of leaf and also had tomato end pieces on it----which is a no-no for any sandwich, it should always have slices from middle of the tomato. The fries were mushy, cold, and seasoned with old bay. Thankfully I had a coupon for this visit. Won't be back. They can't hold a candle to Chik-Fil-A. read more

Visited drive thru for my first Xaxby experience. Sat in line of cars for 24 minutes unable to either forward or back and had two cars blocked in. After 17 minutes I called restaurant and asked what problem was. They said "a little behind". If I could rate the service lower than 1 star I would. I've been three times now, and never gotten my food in less than an hour. The last time we went with a coupon and they didn't know how to ring it up from the drive through so they asked us to just pull around to the window and present the coupon there. When we got there they said "Well, you're just gonna have to come inside now, because your order is gonna be all backed up!" That was after a thirty minute wait with only 4 cars in front of us. My review is based more on quality of service than the taste of their food. The food is really good. But their drive through sucks big time. Since they have been open in Charlottesville, our orders have been 95% wrong. Mostly little things like missing extra's that were paid for like sauces and salad dressings. Then it moved on to missing meals that were already paid for prompting a return trip to their store. Then last night I ordered a House Zalad. Always before it came with crispy tortilla strips which I like in my salad, but they were missing completely. Then much to my chagrin, there was like a quarter of a cup of water floating around in the bottom of my container, so I couldn't even save for my leftover salad for lunch today because it would be wilted from the water floating around. Short version: bad food and worse service. There is a better option only a 1/4 mile up the road. Long version: this is the second Zaxby's I've ever been to. The first was a few months ago in the Tallahassee FL area and I thought it was great. It was a pleasant surprise after having passed so many Zaxby's for years. While I've been living in Charlottesville for work, I had been visiting Raising Cane's across the road but wanted to mix it up tonight. I wish I hadn't. I went into the drive-thru as the only customer. I ordered a simple chicken finger combo with a regular coke. At the window, the service was horrible. This must be where the C-level players go to work because, for apparently no reason, two employees had a pretty poor attitude with me. I was pretty annoyed but I figured the food would make up for it and I'd just forget about it. I start driving back to where I'm staying and the coke is totally wrong. I don't know if they use a freestyle machine or if they just poured something else, but it wasn't even close to the taste of a Coke. I just took another sip of it now to try and describe the taste for this review and the best way that I can describe it is drinking trash water. Ok, now I'm real mad but I'm not driving all the way back. I pop open the combo box and there is no fork to eat the coleslaw with and the chicken fingers are small and way overcooked - not even close to what I remembered from the Tallahassee Zaxby's. Super disappointing. I've had bad fast food experiences before that I forget about almost immediately, but this one drove me to write a dang Yelp review. For chicken fingers - Raising Cane's meals are nearly identical in composition, but taste a lot better. Plus their staff is friendly and not only acknowledges your existence, but go above and beyond by saying words like "hello", "is there anything else I can get you", and "thank you". Horrible customer service, rushed to order in the drive thru... MIND YOU there's no one behind me in line and I was being badgered to make an order 4 separate times!!! It got to the point where the staff worker has asked me to come inside?! For what?! I would have gone inside if that was the case. I felt rushed when I was asking questions about the meals and if they gave a discount to essential workers. Didn't even let me finish my sentence before she said "NO." When I heard that Zaxby's was opening up, I was excited. It was close to grounds and it would be a fun experience going. Boy was I wrong. Everything here is seasoned doubly what it should be. Crazy amounts of salt are placed on everything. The texas toast is simply just a piece of Wonderbread that's buttered and slightly burned. The crab chips are often cold and have too much seasoning. The chicken honestly isn't quite bad but the rest of the sides on the menu can be the stuff of nightmares. The texture, mouthfeel, and flavor can be disjointed and overwhelming. The only redeeming factor is the fried cheddar which after everything else was mediocre at best. The sauce comes cold and makes the overall experience a lukewarm mess. The sauces are also a redeeming factor but in the light of everything else, you struggle to find anything you wish to season by the end of the day in fear it'll become too salty. Please cut back on the seasoning that you sprinkle on everything from your chips to your fries. read more

This place is awesome! The food was terrific and very reasonably priced. There are so many menu options to choose from but we finally settled on the Chicken finger plate and chicken wings- everything was delicious! The service was prompt and very friendly. The food is good, the problem is the service. On at least 2 separate occasions, I've order simply a 6 finger dinner and both times I either got only 3-4 fingers or no coleslaw and only 1 sauce. Twice this has happened and I chalk it up to bad management, as they should ensure their employees get the orders correct. read more

I rarely review fast food places because let's be honest -- the expectations are always low but given this place just opened a week or so ago, I figured if they'd ever be on their A game, the time would be now so I swung by this place. And, well, I wish I had just kept driving. It's hard not to compare this place to raising canes which is right up the road but they're both chicken places so it's to be expected. First off, I ordered the boneless wings with fries and a drink. Also toast. All of it was subpar. The boneless wings were dry and looked sad. The fries were hard. The bread was blah and I also found a hair in my box of food which I promptly threw out as soon as i discovered it. They also give me bleu cheese in a packet for the wings. This bothers me. It's just lazy. All in all, if this was the best that this place could do then I hate to see its product in a years time. If you want better fast food quality, keep driving to canes. I love Zaxby's! But this location is on thin ice. There's nothing worse than getting home with your to-go order and finding that they forgot something. My salad was alright, but it would really have benefited from some dressing. Which I ordered, but did not receive. Likewise, my chicken fingers would also have benefited from some dipping sauce.
