One liner: casual Halal fast food --------------------------------- Food: we wanted to like this a lot more and will qualify this review by saying it's an uber eats review and also recognize that it's a casual restaurant -- we ordered the lamb platter one with fries and one with hummus, unfortunately was disappointed by the quality of the meat, the lamb was more processed meat in texture, the fries were a big soggy, and the hummus tasted airy, left more to be desired. Halal Munchies is my favorite place on Cary Street. All their food is bursting with flavors and BIG portions. There is street parking only. You can opt to pay to park or chance it. This place is so popular that there are usually cars in the middle of the street with their hazard lights on. When you go in, you can order the food through a touch-screen device. There are 2. You can also order at the register. Both work just fine. Their platter options are chicken, lamb, both chicken and lamb, fish or falafel. They come with basmati rice (seasoned or spicy), salad, fries and/or hummus. I've tried them all, but the fish hands down is my favorite. Then, you can choose a sauce: white, house, green or bbq. I've only tried the white sauce and it's the best. They also have other things to try, but I always see the platters as the popular choice. On this trip, I ordered 2 fish platters. Their fish is bomb. The crunchy batter and portions. There is a piece in every inch of that plate. They squeeze so much food in their to go box that it's amazing to watch. I've eaten there and taken it to go. There are only 3 or 4 tables and they play music. I keep coming back. This is one place I highly recommend and the good part is they're opened 11am-1am, so you can go for an early lunch or late dinner or munchies as their name says.
I'm in Richmond for work, and Halal Munchies has become one of my favorite spots. The restaurant is clean, welcoming, and never too crowded despite being near the campus area(VCU). Ordering from the kiosk is fast and easy, and the food comes out in just a few minutes. Their lamb and chicken platters were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. I've been back several times already and highly recommend it to anyone looking for great halal food in Richmond.
Halal Munchies is a relatively new spot on VCU's campus near the Cary St. gym. They're known for their platters and wraps - there's flavorful options for vegetarians and non-vegetarians as well. You can order from a kiosk that takes Apple Pay. The food was a little expensive for a college campus but the portion makes up for it. The chicken over rice fed 2 people comfortably and came with an option for fries and salad on the side. The white sauce tasted different but tied the plate together. I'd rate it a 7/10. There's a few tables inside to eat, but I wouldn't recommend coming here to dine in with a group bigger than 4, especially since it's on campus and there's a lot of college students coming in and out. However, it's a great option for a late night meal since they're open until 1am.
The spot is a favorite for students but well worth the wait. The meat was tender and the rice was cooked perfectly. I liked that you could choose a healthy side like the salad or fries. Both went well with the mixed combo platter. The ordering system is straightforward on a kiosk and they do there best to get orders out quickly. Kinda cool to watch them cook while you wait. It was my first time trying falafels and I loved them.

Customer service was good, they were super busy filling orders while remaining attentive. Food served piping hot, fresh and the portions are huge (we typically share or save some for the next meal). Mimi ordered the combo with chicken and lamb over rice with fries and salad (DCG is a bit more seasoned but it's good here 3.4/5) and I of course got the fish over rice with double salad (10/5 lol). We could literally drink the white sauce, the green sauce was a good accompaniment and the hot sauce we got on the side which was spicy but a good heat. I wasn't a fan of the falafel which was a bit dry/tough to us (and we've had our share of some good ones) or the pita (bagged which was just ok). Fries are good too and ask for extra white sauce! The space is clean and they stay open late centrally located near VCU (go Rams). If you haven't been do yourself a favor and go!
Eat here if you're around VCU main campus or downtown Richmond in general and you want a large amount of really good food for a good price. This place (I think they've actually come here from New York) is reminiscent of all the best halal food trucks you've experienced, convenient platters with an option for salad (a nice and simple romaine blend), fries (not super crispy but good quality), and rice (brown, well cooked). All three in one plate is not uncommon, and all works very nicely together. I've gone for the lamb as well as the chicken-- usual options for red and white sauce, and there is also a bbq sauce if you're feeling a little different. Would recommend taking the food back to wherever with you. Tables in the restaurant are nice and clean but there are a lot of other places in the area to sit and eat. Monroe Park for example, and VCU is across the street. Everyone inside is super friendly, it feels like they're looking out for you and I've never seen the staff act abrupt or unkind to anyone. Eat here and support them. They regularly contribute portions of a day's earning to charitable causes and they're open late! This place deserves your business. Very strong and reliable lunch or dinner option. Enough food for both.

This place is awesome! In a very convenient location near VCU. It is reasonably priced, & you definitely get your money's worth! I got one of the mixed options, & it was very tasty. The food was flavorful, & plentiful. They had a decent lunch rush, but it did not take too long for it to be ready! There's limited seating available inside, but on a nice day you could walk to Monroe Park with your order! Overall, I give this place 2 thumbs up, and I'll be back!
Talk about huge portions - this is the spot for two-meals in-one... and man was it good. Perfect for takeout/delivery while working a long shift, just wish it was easier to mix together because they really pack it in there LOL. Whatever that white sauce is on top? To die for. The fries were super crispy and surprisingly went with it really well. I wish there was more rice, but also that would mean less meat so... you win some, you lose some. Quick service and an overall great spot :) Get the mixed combo! Reasonable price and get to try it all :)
Stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon after hearing what the hype is all about and let me tell y'all, it truly lives up to it! Food came out so fast and fresh and the price point is unbeatable for the portions they give you. I got the lamb over rice with fries and salad and they did not skimp on the protein or any of the sides!! I also got a bunch of sauce thinking it'd be on the side but they drizzled it on for me which was a tasty surprise! Wish this existed while I was attending VCU but either way so glad I got to try it out! Will be adding to the list of yeses in my book for future visits!

Omfg ONE MILLION STARS! Was getting a tattoo at salvation next door and needed to get some real food so I wouldn't pass out once it started. I was going to get a snack at sonic down the street but there were a TON of construction workers headed into Halal Munchies so I followed them. Thank goodness I did! Their chicken and rice platter was incredible and their sauces are next level. Ordering is easy and food is ready fast. Inside is super clean with a couple tables: I ate here twice in 24 hours if that tells you anything! read more

Love this spot! The Food is made to order and it is hot when you get it. Don't care for the salad in the same container as the hot food. But, it makes it home without it getting messy. The inside is very small and can accommodate a quick bite to eat since it pulls in a lot of the college students from VCU. Prices are good for the amount of food you get. It is a different kind of taste and I enjoy it every time I eat here. They have non-alcoholic drinks in the beverage fridges. I've never been inside long enough to know if the bathroom was nice or not. It helps to plan to eat at home or somewhere else. I recommend!!! read more
Back again to review and update on how it's going after a few months! I ordered on doordash to pick up a lamb platter. I choose hummas for the side dish included in the platter! On the other side of the hummas was salad! I thought the platter was a very big portion. I was not able to finish it in one sitting and I assure you I was absolutely RAVENOUS . Lamb was juicy and accompanied the rice so well. I liked the mix of the crunchiness from the salad. The cucumber and hummas was pretty good together. I would not eat the hummas alone though. Next time i'd also order pita to accompany the hummas, but with a pair I love it! It did take a bit for my food to be ready but they did make it pretty fresh! Inside seating was there but can be hard to snag late night! read more

New favorite lunch spot in RVA! Came here on a whim for lunch and got a mixed combo platter to go. The restaurant is very clean and the food looks very fresh and extremely appetizing. I absolutely loved my platter. It had a whole lot of meat, rice, and sauce. The guys working the counter are very nice and accommodating. I highly suggest you try this place out because their food and flavors are incredible and perfectly seasoned. Their prices are also very affordable for the amount of food you get. read more

Food: Lamb Over Rice w/ Fries Be sure to check your order before exiting the store. They use shawarma meat for the plate. It is not my favorite, but due to the late hours it can be very convenient to be able to get food. Rice used was basmati rice and the fries are on the style of Rally's/Checker's. The overall flavor of the food was good especially for a late night bite. Service/Ambiance: Typical takeout type of service- You can order online or via kiosk in the store. The food is prepared in bulk and once you order, your plate is prepared from a cafeteria style setup. read more

We were too hungry to take a picture beforehand! The food was so fresh and tasty! We randomly found this place on the Halal website and so glad we did! The people working there were very friendly and working hard . We will be back !! read more

I was highly disappointed in the food that I received, especially after all the good reviews I heard from other people in the website additionally, the picture of the actual Gyro and what I received look nothing alike. I was very disappointed that I wasted my time and money. read more
