I stopped by this shop to pickup a super Philly ($10). They made it fresh in front of you and it was ready in under 10 minutes. My first impression was the relative size of it, it was loaded with a good amount of steak and veggies. The meat was quite solid and the veggies were grilled well. Staff was very nice. They do offer sitting, but I'd recommend to take it to as it's nothing fancy. Overall a good experience and well worth the money! Not many people inside but quite a few people came and went with takeout. Food came as promised. The gyro was good, fresh ingredients. FF were eh but that's me, I'm pretty weird about my ff. Overall it is a good spot. But then I went to the bathroom. the bathroom was disgusting! They were not busy and the filth was definitely not from 1 day. Urin on the seat, film on the mirror looks like for weeks! The floor was definitely really dirty, and the trash was full. (Photos) Had I went to the bathroom first, I would not have eaten there. That might be what I need to do from now on. A real shame because I did enjoy my gyro & the customer service, but I probably ate some dirt too I will not be back. They should have no right to have the word "Philly"....."Steak"......or "Gyros" in their business name. You have a better chance of getting a cheesesteak or Gyro at Wawa or Sheetz. You know that whole sentiment of not knowing what you have until it's gone? Yeah, that's how I feel about cheesesteaks. Ever since I moved away from the Philly area, I've just been craving crusty, fresh bread, well-seasoned meat, and, overall, outstanding sandwiches. This place missed the mark big time. I ordered via UberEats. The best part was that it only took about 40 minutes to receive my food. I was in a bunch of pain, so I ordered comfort food...a chef salad, chicken nuggets, cheese sticks, and a 'steak Philly' without tomatoes. I guess the meal(s) would have passed if I was drunk. But I was not drunk. And they were all boring and average. The salad was the most creative, and even that failed with sad deli meat twirls and too many onions masking everything else. As for their namesake cheesesteak? Hardly any meat, limp bread, could barely even taste the cheese. Sigh. I wish I liked this spot more. I've found a few stellar sandwich slingers in RVA so far...but, from my experience, this is not one of them. read more

I came here on New Year's eve for a quick bite because I was craving some burgers and fries. I found easy parking in front and decided to give this place a try. It's definitely a hole on the wall kind of restaurant. It's something not very noticeable. Upon entering the restaurant you'll notice that the decor is bright green color and purple, that has wooden booth stool and just a very vintage feel to it. Kind of strange with a classic nice portrait plastered around the walls, that doesn't match the theme they are trying to put. I was the ONLY one here, probably because everyone has other plans. You walk to the back to order your food. On the menu they had burgers, Philly cheese, and gyros. I wasn't sure what to get so I asked the worker there what was a popular choice and he told me the Philly cheese and gyros. I ended up ordering the Philly cheese with a meal that comes with fries and a drink and he asked what toppings I wanted on my Philly cheese and I told him everything. I got my food to dine in and it was nice of them to bring it to me at my table. The fries was nice and hot, but was thick, bland, and soft. Not very crunchy or had much flavor. The Philly cheese was good but I didn't like how the bread didn't taste fresh or how little meat was added to my sandwich making me taste more bread than steak. I didn't realized it until I was halfway done that the only topping I got was lettuce and there was no tomatoes, since I asked for everything topping. I definitely wasn't feeling the Philly cheese steak here and I don't understand how they can mess up on my order considering I was the only one here. I hear the lamb gyros here is better tasting so maybe I'll give that a try next time. But I wasn't satisfied with what I got. I have lived in the Richmond area my whole life and tried many, many Philly steak & cheese places. Some have been better than others and most have been average at best. This place has THE BEST steak and cheese in Richmond, hands down. We've been coming here since just before Covid and it's been amazing Every. Single. Time. They invite you in and greet you with a smile and continue on smiling as you order. I'm not sure if they reeeaaallly love their job or they were told to do so-- but it's a nice change from the unemotional faces at other places. When my boyfriend ask for a cup of water, they told him to grab a cup and get whatever he wanted from the fountain. --Super Steak Sub-- Their menu is all under $11 and consists of falafels, subs, and gyros. It was $4 for a super steak sub, $7 for the regular meal, and $11 for the large meal--- meals include a drink and fries. The super steak includes provolone cheese, onions, mushrooms, and green peppers. It was a lot of food for a $4 sub. The sub was stuffed with a lot of meat and was cheesy throughout which I liked. The steak is chopped up into smaller pieces on the cook top and is pretty salty so the extra toppings helped out. I thought that the sub could have used a little bit of hot sauce as well. --Lamb Gyro-- It was $5 for gyro and $8 for the meal. I preferred the gyro over the sub and thought that they were also very generous with the amount of meat. The seasoning of the lamb is not as pungent as other places that serve gyro but I thought that it was decent--especially for the lower price tag compared to those places. The meat was moist and there was plenty of toppings stuffed into the pita. --Fries-- I'm not sure whether they make their fries fresh but they had the skin on them and came out super hot [yum!]. We had third lunch yesterday at Philly Steaks on Cary Street. Upon arrival we learned that the owners were Egyptian and decided to try the food of their homeland. They offered had falafels, Kufta, Koshari, shawerma. We went for the Koshari. I had never had it but my friend John informed me that it was accurate except that the lentils are typically served on the side and usually there us also a garlic vinegar sauce. The dish had rice, macaroni, lentils, and these delicious caramelized onions. It was served with a spicy red sauce. I'm not much of a pasta person so I focused more on rice lentils, and onions.. the meal is tasty and very hearty. The servers were very friendly and infomative about their food and culture. Wanted a quick to-go dinner and they did the trick. The regular cheese steak was good but I wish it had more meat and onions. Next time I would get the super steak. It was very neat (as in not dripping with cheese and oil) and while I used less napkins, I liked the bigger meatier and dirtier cheesesteaks at Str8 Out of Philly. Everything else was better here though. Cleaner, more options, and quicker service. They also have decent size dining room that is kind of like Greek Cuisine down the street (what's with all the name changes?). Also they do have Coke products now. Went to this place on the late night. I was hungry and since it had 4 stars I wanted to try it. I wanted the kabob dinner but they were out of it (kinda disappointed). Decided to try the steak Philly. I ordered a 6" sub and it was underwhelming. I didn't want fillers such as lettuce and tomato and I added banana peppers. They forgot to add the banana peppers and charged me for it!!! On the side, I asked for a baked potato just plain with butter. It was very dry I understand but it had a very strange taste as if the potato was old. I tried to add salt but it didn't make the potato better. First time visiting this small little place and I was quite pleased. It's a small establishment in a nice little town I believe called Carytown? (First time visiting the area so I could be completely wrong). I went here with my girlfriend and her parents to grab food after our day of walking up and down the shopping area. There prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get as well and I recommend stopping here for lunch with the selection they have. I ordered the gyro. The lamb was tasty and I've never had a gyro with feta cheese but I will definitely consider asking restaurants in the future for feta cheese on my gyro. Another great thing about this place is that it's all cooked to order so every meal comes out hot and fresh. I love this place and order from them all the time. My go-to items are the Super Steak Philly, Lamb Gyro, and Onion Rings. The steak is always super good in their sandwiches, they are generous with toppings, and I like the way they make them. They all include mayo - I don't think they have cheese wiz so Philly purists be warned. For me though, this is my go-to cheesesteak in Richmond. Their Gyros are also fantastic, with similarly high quality meat as well as a fantastic Tzatziki sauce. They may have the best Onion Rings I've tried in the city. Every time I get them they are piping hot, very crispy, and delicious. The guys who run the place are very nice and honest, though I don't see them often because I usually get delivery.
