I know a good shawarma having lived in Lebanon.. and let me tell you, hands down -- the BEST shawarma I've had around Richmond. I had a chicken shawarma (double garlic sauce/toum) and my mom got the beef and lamb and we shared a side of seasoned fries.. 12/10 I will definitely be coming back to try other dishes, I believe they have specials on Monday (but please verify with the restaurant or follow them on social media) They only offer take out, no dine-in. Service was very fast. It's a small, cozy spot.. very unassuming and tucked away in the plaza, but the best places are usually hidden gems! read more

Falafel and fries were amazing and prices were great. Def going to make this one a staple.

Fast, friendly service and EXCELLENT food. I ordered the beef and lamb plate with tabbuleh and tahini/Nineveh sauce. The meal was absolutely perfect, filling and flavorful and a large serving. Takeout only and super quick, I was in and out in what felt like five minutes. read more

Can eat here 3x a week easy. Quality is unbeatable. The charcoal fish is always great, and the chicken tikka is tender & flavorful every time. Friendly crew too read more

Please be aware of this place is only takeout. If you're getting something off the grill strongly recommend ordering before you get there cause it takes a while to prepare excellent bread, unique and very flavorful falafel and we really enjoyed the pickled vegetables the tabouli was OK. read more

My favorite falafel spot... they have really good authentic Iraqi kas and their falafel are so good you can eat one after another without stoping. I ordered their Eid date cookies "kleicha" and it was just like how my mom makes it. I loved it!! Definitely recommend for how clean they are and how fresh the food always is. Their service is really good but their food takes a bit long so they can assure the freshness! Worth it read more

Pretty good! Big kabobs for a fair price. The rice was some sort of cinnamony flavor, so that was surprising to me. The hummus was amazing.

Best middle eastern food in RVA. I especially loved their tika chicken. Super tender and juicy! The bread is baked fresh in-house. Sometimes they have special order and special menus. Be sure to ask them what it is because it's not always in the menu. read more

Amazing food, both in appearance and in MY BELLY!!! Nice people, and made quickly with fresh ingredients!

Nineveh is an excellent Mediterranean / Iraqi bakery restaurant. My go to meal are the falafel sandwiches. They make excellent falafel which are so moist and flavorful. They make them different from any other restaurant I've been too. They look like mini donuts with a hole in each one. Maybe that's what makes them cook well and taste so good. The restaurant is takeout only as there are no tables. The store is bright, clean and organized. The owner and staff are always friendly and generally happy to see you come in. I always feel welcomed and appreciated as a customer. I've tried various items from their menu besides the awesome falafel. The shawarma, tika, kababs and desserts are all very tasty as well. The prices can't be beat and the portions are very large. The owner is a nice guy and very patient. On separate occasions he explained and discussed the Amba sauce which is an option and the different tahini sauces they sell. Very informative as I'm not that familiar with Iraqi foods. They offer breakfast items as well but I haven't tried any of those yet. They make fresh flatbreads (Samoon) everyday as well. read more

Authentic, yummy food. Everything tastes great and passes the authenticity test. The chef must be a pro, not just your regular line cook throwing stuff together. read more

Found this gem through Facebook and decided to give it a try Friday evening. This place is located next to the old Bonchon on West Broad Street. I called in my order for the lamb tika, chicken tika and falafel. The tikas both came with 2 sides and bread. Both the lamb and chicken were delicious, and the chicken was very juicy. Falafels were good as well as the sides, hummus was fresh and yummy. Everything is made to order so be sure to call in and order ahead of time if you're in a rush. Will definitely be back! read more

This is a very good place to eat. A friend took me here and said this the food is very good. He went on to say the Falafel is the best in town. The shop is small and there's no seating area inside. However it appeared clean and the guy who I believe was the owner was very friendly. They took time to explain things and were just over all very helpful. I had the beef & lamb Shawarma and it was outstanding! I surprise myself by saying that because I am not a fan of lamb. The toppings were delicious and the overall presentation was great. During my visit i asked about the falafel because I have never had it nor did I know what it was. He gave me a sample to try after explaining it. I will say I am not a fan of the falafel. It was very flavorful! I never knew what I had been missing out on. The prices are very reasonable especially for the portion size. I did not get a chance to do this review sooner however I went back the next day and ate again. I took a friend of mine who had never been as well and he was highly impressed. Definitely going to go back again. read more

This is the place to go for shawarma and falafel. Very fast service, delicious flavors, great value. Pitas are made fluffy and crispy, the sauces are phenomenal. Very easy place to grab and go. Only knock on this place is there is no place to eat in, but I'm sure that's not what they are going for. Highly recommend. Had an entree plate and it gave me enough energy to move, play basketball, and volleyball all in one afternoon. read more

This is an easy 5-star review. Don't be deterred by the exterior or lack of indoor seating. I had the falafel sandwich, which they serve Iraqi style, with the ingredients inside a samoon. Never had that before, but it was seriously good. Reasonable prices too. read more

WOW what a find!! I get so happy when I eat good quality flavorful food!! I had seen Nineveh a few times while on my pilgrimage through Goodwill before I finally took the plunge. I was intrigued especially since I had never eaten Iraqi food before. I sat in my car and googled the restaurant and different Iraqi foods, and my mouth began to water (always a good sign). I read about the different spice combinations and it was on and popping. I entered the establishment and was immediately greeted ( I'm going to assuming that was the owner), very welcoming. It's interesting because I felt a sense of peace as soon as I entered through the door. The place was small and clean, not much in the store but enough that I wanted to try a little bit of everything (don't judge me, I had shoppers hunger). In my opinion the shop didn't have anything really indicating Iraqi (not that I'm the expert) and unless I had looked it up I wouldn't have known. Although, when I Googled Iraqi food I found all these delectable dishes, the options at Nineveh didn't reflect that. I wanted to try anything ethnic and flavorful, so I asked for their most popular dish and they recommended the lamb and beef shawarma sandwich. I also asked about their dessert's (have to satisfy my sweet tooth), they had a custard (don't quite remember the name) and sesame cookies. I asked about everything. We had a little bit of a language barrier,(I thought I had to wait an hour for my food, instead he was telling me something else, lol) but we worked it out. I don't usually get sandwiches and asked if they had any rice. I always say that when I'm accommodated, you pretty much got me, lol (I'm so spoiled). Even though my meal didn't come with rice, and nowhere on the menu indicated they even offered rice, they got me some rice. The place is take out, so I had to wait until I got home to try my goodies (the fragrance made me speed home in anticipation). I shared my meal with the greedy blogging team @we_hungryaf and they loved it. The bread was still warm and the meat was so tender, fresh and packed a punch. The spice's were familiar but different. The desserts were sweet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. If you are lactose intolerant, take some Beano or something before eating the pudding IJS. The pudding is delicious and rich, but not sweet. The cookies were reminiscent of vanilla cookies but with sesame seeds, but we liked them and will be back for more. After reading about some of their other dishes I really wanted to try Masgouf, Quzi, Tashreeb or Maqluba. I'm guessing the menu might not include their special dishes and you might have to call in advance to ask what else they have (I'm basing this theory off the photos posted with the reviews). Anywho, I definitely will be going back!! Don't take it from me, you be the judge! read more

The portions are extremely small, if you're hungry you gotta order two platters. Also, I think they overcharged me $2 more than what the menu price+tax would be, I only noticed after paying. Save your $20 on this half meal and go somewhere else for a real size meal. read more

This place has amazing food, and amazing service! My girlfriend and I both ordered the lamb Tikka entree which comes with two sides. I ordered mine with bread and tabbouleh. The lamb was beautifully charred yet tender and was perfectly seasoned. I kept making little sandwiches with the flatbread, which is a great texture-pillowy and chewy, and the tabbouleh and lamb. The box also came with two sauces and I had the garlic and the Nineveh sauce (spicy). Altogether with the ment that work there who were very hospitable and the authentic food and drink we will definitely be making plenty more stops at this place. read more

Fantastically good, homemade Iraqi breads and foods. The owners are very kind and friendly.

My husband found this place online and we decided to give it a try. They have only been opened for a month . It is Iraqi food and simply delicious !! The seasoning of the chicken and the freshness of all the food is what stood out to me. The place is a small bakery and very clean from inside. Delicious! First time to this lovely place. Friendly and patiently answers questions. I got home to eat my sandwich, which was loaded with everything except onions, thinking I could try out new ingredients and figure out what I don't like. Surprise!
