    Beef & Lamb Gyro
    Menghai T.

I got the beef and lamb gyro sandwich ($10). It was filled with meat, lettuce , tomato, white sauce, and an optional hot sauce. Both the white and hot sauce added great flavor to the gyro. Staff was nice and they made my sandwich in about 5 minutes. There wasn't much seating besides outside so I just took the gyro home. Overall a good takeout place if you are looking for a gyro that's good and priced fairly. Food(50%): 7.8 Staff/service(25%): 7.0 Value(25%): 7.5 Overall: 7.5/10

I've heard good things about this place and finally got a chance to check it out! The lamb gyro was pretty solid. There were generous servings of well-seasoned lamb meat in my gyro and the pita bread was soft. There was a good ratio of meat to lettuce to bread, but there was a lot of tzatziki sauce. While I'm a fan of extra sauce, the amount was a little too much. I appreciated how you can customize your gyro (ie no tomatoes) and loved how the staff double checked with you for the other ingredients. It feels like a whole-in-the-wall place but there is a good amount of seating and the tables were clean. Food came out pretty quickly and they even brought the food to our table :)

Stopped in for a sandwich for dinner. The store looks clean and the service was pleasant and polite. Woman at the order counter explained and answered all our questions. My main question was if they had a traditional gyro pita sandwich made of beef and lamb. She pointed to the menu above the counter to where it said beef gyro and explained that the beef gyro also had lamb in it. I believe that should be noted on the menus. Proceeded to ordered beef (with lamb) gyros with French fries. The food was brought to our table in an acceptable time. Everything ordered looked fresh and cooked properly. The fries were hot and crispy. The gyro was flavorful and the meat was very tender. The meat was warm/hot but since the toppings were cold the sandwich cooled down quickly. I've had a lot of gyro sandwiches in the past and this sandwich seemed more like a shawarma sandwich, I guess I would consider it a hybrid gyro/shawarma sandwich. There were cases of soda stacked in the corner of the main cafe which took away from the ambiance but this is not a fancy place. It's more of a lunch stop and I assume it gets pretty busy at lunchtime. The food was very good and I would revisit to try other items on the menu.

There's a couple gyro restaurants on this street but this continues to be our favorite! Less busy than the one a block away, the chicken or falafel gyros are my absolute favorite in the area. They are jam-packed with meat (or falafel), great tzatziki but the fries take it up 5 notches. We also tried the Jamaican beef patty's and a Philadelphia ice. The patty's were flavorful and while the cherry ice wasn't our favorite flavor, the consistency reminded us of the childhood ice's we used to eat (we read the mango and coconut were the best flavors). The employees are extremely kind and they have seating upstairs and outside. Highly recommend!

AMAZING!! i went today and got the chicken tacos combo. the hot sauce was perfect if you love spice it amazing on the tacos, they were warm and filling, the fries were perfectly crispy and not too hard, the guy working at the front was very patient as i've never been and he let me take my time to find what i wanted. the restaurant was a little hole in the wall and it was very warm as it was cold outside. i would go back again!

Carytown Gyro Sunday 1:22pm 3/6/22 Upon arrival I noticed the small tables for outside seating. Upon walking in there was 1 large table and inside 2 small tables. Inside the restaurant was small, really small. $13.00 I ordered a gyro and asked if anything came with it. She told me everything but also added that the French fries that came with it were actually inside the gyro. That threw me off and made me wonder was something else going on abnormal with the gyro. She assured me it was a regular gyro and could give me my fries separately. Whew! lol She was really nice and I appreciate her effort. It took about 10-15 minutes for my food, which is fine. The fries were good but still can't imagine them in the gyro. The gyro, I'm not feeling. For starters, While I appreciate the generosity, there is way too much meat. There's no way I can fold and eat it. The taste was definitely different from any gyro I've ever had. I'm not sure what is going on. The Tzatziki sauce I also did not care for and I typically get extra tzatziki sauce. I'm not sure but it taste lemony and something else. This taste stayed with me the rest of the day. It may be one of those things where you just have to try it for yourself. I will not revisit, just not my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed my beef gyro on pita bread! My friend also really enjoyed his beef and chicken gyro platter. The staff were very friendly. The beef was cooked well and the white sauce on it was very good! I recommend!

I was looking for a new spot to try in Carytown so we popped into Carytown Gyros We were greeted immediately upon entering and they were very friendly answering our questions and our order was ready pretty quickly. The place is pretty small with 3 tables inside. Clean, but seemed old, a NYC vibe in there was a cooler for soft drinks, freezer and cases of soda out in the dining area. There was a stairway, not sure if there is more seating upstairs or if that's offuces/personal space. Fries were hot and crispy, though they may have from a bag/frozen Gyro was BIG and packed with meat. The meat was super tender and juicy, you can tell it's marinated for days vs hours...which is a big deal. The meat wasn't really warm though and I think it's because there was ALOT of very cold Taziki sauce. I am a sauce person and a dipper, there was too much sauce and it was pretty plain, which meant it diluted any flavor in the meat. There was also very minimal tomato, onion and lettuce. To some that might be a plus, as there was clearly more meat packed in the pita but I was hoping for more than one small bite of a chopped tomato. Pita was soft and fresh I try to be consistent in ratings and fair because most rating are subjective, so I struggled between a 3 and 4 here and decided on the 4. Service was good, portions were a good value, food was fresh and I will give them another try. Usually with a 3, I probably won't ever go back. Service .5 Food~Taste/flavor/quality Presentation .5 Atmosphere/vibe Value

Carytown Gyro had one of the best platters I've had. The cheese fries were also great with the addition of seasonings. Additionally, the staff were very friendly and very attentive. I will definitely be coming back soon to try out their 40+ chicken wing flavors.

    Beef gyro platter

The restaurant is clean and the service was prompt and friendly. I ordered the beef gyro platter, and there was nothing resembling a gyro on my plate. The food was perfectly edible, but if it had been clear what I was ordering, I would not have ordered it.

This is a super cute place at the end of Cary Stret just off 195. My husband introduced me to the food here and I'm hooked! The portions are massive and full of flavor! I get a mixed gyro and usually end up eating half and saving half for later. The meats are expertly seasoned and cooked and the garlic sauce is the best thing I've tasted in a long time. Hopefully if the get busy enough they'll offer delivery! Soooooo good!

This $5 Wednesday special falafel sandwich has got to be the best deal in town

Of the three or four gyro places on Cary, this mom-and-pop is the most tucked away, but you don't want to miss it. From flavor to portions to service to ambiance, Carytown Gyro is actually outstanding. In addition to the Yelp hummus offer, this place participates in just about every miles and points program there is, making it an even better value. I've eaten here four times, and my only regret is not "discovering" this place sooner. The falafel is a standout: large, light, tender, crispy spheres with sesame seeds added to the traditional mix. I usually prefer more herbaceous falafels, but make an exception for these. The falafel sandwich is an enormous portion, with three falafels, hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, pickle, and a tangy sauce, all dusted with sumac on a whole pita - that it is only $5 on Wednesdays makes it an absolutely amazing deal. Service is as friendly as it is fast. There is patio seating, as well as a communal table in an anteroom that is all window, in addition to a couple of tables near the register: it's like "choose your own ambiance," but each has its advantages.

The inside of the store was old school setup with booths and a huge full service bar. 15 minutes within opening, the restaurant was full in capacity. The menu had lots of exciting brunch dishes, appetizers, salads, soups and deli section as well. There were plenty of cocktails, beer and wines choices available too. Prices were decent. I picked the Jewish Sailor that was a combo of toast with pastrami and beef sausage with red onion and mustard. When the dish came, it looked so scrumptious. Loved the flavor of the pastrami, the crunchy sausages, crispy toast bread, coleslaw all of it. I also got to try the pierogis that were delicious as well. The service was good overall. Our waitress was attentive, while managing several tables at the same time. The dishes came out quickly despite being busy. Overall the experience lived up to the expectations.

The meats here were very good - extremely tender with a nice smoky flavor. I was personally a huge fan of the spare ribs and my girlfriend loved the prime rib (which I have never seen at a BBQ place before!). First, let me preface this by saying that I grew up in North Texas for the majority of my life…read more Second, I've had a LOT of BBQ during that time. Well known standards from the area including Angelo's, Railhead, Heim's, Cousin's, and a lot of old places that are no longer in existence. Each one offering its own spin on a Texas standard. Upon moving to Virginia, I hadn't ventured out to any of the BBQ joints, but one of my associates from the office would often talk about ZZQ. I had assumed that Virginians had a concept of BBQ that was akin to shredding some meat and pouring BBQ sauce on it. So, I finally had the courage to visit ZZQ a few weeks ago to pick up an order to go. I arrived just before opening time on a Saturday morning. There was a line that extended just down to the street. Probably 40 feet or so. Figured this would go pretty quickly once the doors opened. I was wrong. After 15 minutes, I had only moved about 5 feet. The line was building behind me, but simply appeared to have gotten stuck somewhere in front of me. After about 40 minutes, I had finally made it to the front door. Inside, there was another line up to the cutters. There were menus to peruse and a large sign with all the cuts and sides you could think of. A great variety. As I got closer to the front, I realized that it wasn't the cutters causing such a slow procession, but the customers. As I listed to them talk, most seemed to have absolutely no clue what they wanted at all. Did I mention the menus and billboards? They seemed to want to chat about food and prep more than just order. Had this been in Texas, the mob of a line would have escorted you out. When you get to the cutters, you know what you want. No time to dilly-dally. I got up to the cutter and placed my order. I was getting a variety, so I went for 1/2 a chicken, 1.5 lbs of sliced brisket, a couple of sausages, mac and cheese, cole slaw, and sauces. The cutter gave me a chunk of the brisket. Definitely moist, a bit overly fatty, but tasty. Their idea is the "meat has enough flavor so that you don't need sauce." He also mentioned they smoke with oak wood. Good to know. The taste is good. Probably as close to a Texas style as you can get, but with some small exceptions. Mesquite wood is often used in Texas for smoking. Plentiful, but obviously costly to transport outside of Texas. It has an exquisite flavor that is just right for BBQ. The second is the sauce. I like sauce...GOOD BBQ sauce! Unfortunately this is where ZZQ falls short. I didn't care for their sauce at all. Too vinegary and liquidy for the lighter sauce, and too heavy with molasses with the other one. So, I had to make do an whip up a small batch of homemade sauce at home that helped to bring it together. All the folks at ZZQ made it for a nice experience. Definitely customer oriented and friendly. I think the BBQ is as close to Texas-style as you can find in these parts, but kind of a miss on the sauce. Still, I can either make my own or buy a bottle at the local store if I want. Definitely worth a try, but you will need patience with a barrage of people who clearly have a lot of questions about BBQ.

I regularly buy food from all the Desi restaurants in this area. I buy here for change and order Beef Biryani once in a while. Last time, a few weeks ago, I bought Beef Biryani to go. At home, when I tried to eat the Biryani, the meat was hard like charcoal. I am the one who was supposed to be upset, but she was very arrogant; I don't need to talk about Biryani, as she has the copyright for Biryani and said she will not know, only the chef knows ever after I politely asked to verify with the chef and tell me, she was angry.
