Absolutely outstanding BBQ, with just two negatives: 1. The brisket was overdone and dry 2. The cashier was standoffish. I tipped $5 in cash and made sure she saw. I asked what an adult shake was and she didn't answer. I assume she didn't hear, but seemed bothered we were there. The ribs are absolutely fall off the bone, pure deliciousness. I love the various sauces and the Coffee BBQ is my favorite! The pulled pork was a perfect ball of moist and flavorful pork that melted in your mouth. The turkey was juicy and made me want more. The coleslaw was bland, but the broccoli and cauliflower were darn good. The carrots are sweet, but decent. We will definitely go back when we have my dads service in June. Went to the Washington, MO Sugarfire location around 7pm. I thought the ribs, while good, they were a little on the dry side as was the 4 Oz beef brisket. The sides of mac'n'cheese and garlic green beans were really good. The pork belly fritters were all fritter but only had a minuscule amount of pork so I felt a little ripped off because the description didn't match the product. The jalapeño jelly was excellent. I've eaten at the STL location and North Denver location and the are both way better than Washington MO and Fenton locations. I don't normally write reviews, let alone long ones. I mainly share my experience due to the service and not the food. I'll start with saying, the location is amazing and the vibe of downtown Washington is on a very small scale of being in a large historical city. We are from the area and really appreciate locally owned restaurants, even though this particular one isn't local to Washington. First off, we were not greeted with "welcome to Sugar fire etc." We were looked at like we were idiots because we were confused on the flow of the restaurant and where to order. We were just told " to start over there" Ok cool I'll go "over there" The restaurant is pretty confusing when you first walk in. The entrance is off the dining patio and you have to walk across the restaurant behind a wall to grab sodas and beer or whatever it is you want to drink. Kinda weird but ok. There is a large menu written above the service area, in chalk, is very cluttered and can be confusing. My son who is 12 was trying to order brisket. The guy, who looked like the pit master or manager, asked him what size portion he wanted. My son, who I don't think heard him, told him that his order would be on the same bill as mine. Again he's 12 and being polite. The sever said very abrasively, " I understand that sir, would you like 6 or 8 oz?" Like he knows what that means or has ever ordered that before. I then almost told him never mind and grabbed my family and left. But I decided to just over look it and move on. It was just very off putting and he could have presented himself better. Was not a very good representation of this restaurant. I almost felt like our $100+ bill was an inconvenience to him. But I really wanted some ribs so I let it go. I'm by no means a "Karen" but don't treat a child any different because he was confused. We got to the check out counter and the girl must have been new. I get it, we all have been there. We were by no means in a rush and I even still Tipped. Even tough I have a rule that if I have to stand up to order and get my own drinks and condiments, I don't tip. Call it what it is. In closing, the food was good but not by any means award winning. The corn was bland and the beans were just ok. As far as the ribs, they were pretty good. some over cooked spots but overall still good. My wife said she enjoyed her sandwich and the kids ate their food so it had to have been ok. Im not saying I won't give it another chance but it won't be my first pick. I just want to add, it was not busy and there were another group of maybe 4 in the dining room at the time. I can see if it was slammed. If the management reads this, please work on doing better to make your customers feel welcome and invited. I spent a pretty good amount of money in this restaurant and there were several other nearby that I know I would have enjoyed. Im not saying people need a welcoming party, but at least act like you want them there. After all, we are (the customers) what keep your doors open and you employed. read more

This review has been languishing in draft form for a year and a half, here's the rundown of our experience: Solid barbecue choice. Number of sauces was interesting but a bit overwhelming. And somehow in all of it they didn't seem to have a KC sauce. I may have missed it, there were around 8. Well-run place. Everyone was on their game. Fried artichoke was interesting, not bad, but I wouldn't get it again. Don't feel like you're missing the most amazing thing if you're leaning another direction. Do you ever get guilt trips because of food? "Oh, I should really try that." You're absolved- you're okay to focus on the delicious meats in front of you. It had been a few years since visiting a Sugarfire, I have always gone to the location off Olive, this is the first visit to the Washington location. This is a very challenging review and mixed thoughts about the meal. I don't know if I was building it up the Sugarfire bbq in my mind so much and had really high expectations because I remember it being so good. Brisket: 3/5 Sausage: 4/5 Pulled pork: 4/5 Ribs: 5/5 Pork belly hushpuppies: 3/5 Sauces: 5/5 Sides: 4/5 I think the thorn of the meal would have been the brisket and pork belly hushpuppies. It didnt seem like it had the juiciness and flavor I was looking for, but still pretty good. The pork belly hushpuppies seemed to be fried a little too long and hardly had any pork belly in them. Then the ribs and all the sauces were great. They do some really good takes on traditional bbq sauce and some more funky flavors. Then the ribs hit the spot. Perfect tenderness and pull from the bone. The thing I liked about Sugarfire was the new age / experimental take bbq and sides compared to traditional bbq. They would do their bbq really well. However, now it seems like big box bbq and just pushed out to the customer rather than really thought out avant-garde quality bbq. I want to go back and give the Olive location a try. read more

I love Barbecue, and I know that other locations of this chain serve decent food. But this location is awful. The food is dry and WAY overcooked. Sometimes you may get lucky and get a side dish that is pretty good, but the last few times I have been there the sides I got were horrible. Aside from lousy food, the servers here are downright rude. They make it clear that they would rather be elsewhere, and that customers are intruding on their territory. They had a very large man cutting meat and serving customers who was exceptionally rude. The cashier looked like she was ready to walk out the door, and she had NO interest in being nice to her customers. I eat out a LOT, and I am known by name at several, WashMo eateries. I will NOT be stepping foot into this establishment again until they make some major changes. I do understanding the challenges of staffing in today's reality, but I'd much rather order through a Kiosk and pick up my food from a conveyor belt than have to deal with jerks. I've been to this specific location several times within the last couple of months. Whether it's running in for a quick carryout for lunch or an equally rushed last minute dinner, it has always been a good experience. I'm a meat fan so I'm not particularly interested in the sides that are offered, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the creativity that goes into them. Having Sugarfire along the riverfront means that those evening walks where the wind shifts just right can initiate something that can only be described as a "carnivorous frenzy " where the only satisfaction is to indulge in a delicious offering of meat and Ski. :) read more

The meat was dry... VERY disappointing experience. The men serving the plates were very friendly but the cashier was not. Looked like his first day, had a black eye, said all of 2 words to us, and the manager quizzed him on my bf's age as he got an adult beverage and he was 2 years off not that it matters but if your cashier can't do basic math....that's concerning. This place has the fountain of Ski (instead of bottle) so he was in heaven. I had the single burger with blue cheese, bacon and portobellos and their salt and pepper fires......De Lish!!! I've been coming to Sugarfire weekly for about a year now and have a small (20lb) service dog (that doesn't shed and is very well behaved) that is trained to save my life that I bring everywhere I go. I have never eaten at the restaurant with my doggy unless I have the capability to sit outside, and today a rude lady at the register told me that I can't come in unless I leave my dog outside and spoke to us like we were children. It's sad when businesses lose empathy for people who rely on service animals to get through life and I'm sad to say I won't be going here anymore because of this treatment. I am a huge fan of Sugarfire, but not all are the same. When this Sugarfire opened it was great! The specials where creative and delicious. In the past 18 months it has gone down hill. The daily special are very safe and boring, wings frequently. The last few visits It seems that the sides you can see at the counter, look dry, crusty and unappetizing. Most recently we went and we ordered, the pulled pork sandwich, double cheeseburger with fries, and special of the day Carolina tacos. Fries where perfect, made fresh and delicious. The pork sandwich was a disappointment, the bun was toasted earlier in the day, and was now hard and cold, the pork was good. The tacos where good just well done. Great barbecue! The pork is probably the best in the area; and in my opinion the sides are the best out of any restraunt (you have to try the Mack-in-rack if they have it). My only problem is that they leave the barbecue sauce out on the table and it gets cold!! Bandannas Barbecue did the same thing. I want hot, or edleast warm, barbecue sauce to go on my meat. I always worry when i go someplace during dinner time and they are empty. The food was good but rather over priced for counter service. Meats were tender. Sides were not my favorite. Artichoke app was not my favorite. Wings were good. Overall the price does me in. I hit every BBQ joint i can and this was one of the highest priced I've seen.
