I stopped at Big Boys Subs in Washington, MO on my way home from a weekend of camping and I'm so glad I did. When I walked in, I was greeted right away. Super friendly staff and the place was BUSY (always a good sign). I could tell a lot of locals eat here because people seemed to know the employees, and one guy was even piecing together punch cards to score a discount . Inside there are tables, chairs, and even a little bar to sit at. I ordered the Cod Sub, the Buffalo Chicken Sub, and the Raspberry Chipotle Chicken Sandwich (mine without bacon because of a red meat allergy). While I waited, they offered me a glass of water which was a nice touch. The smell when I opened my food in the truck was AMAZING. I went straight for the Raspberry Chipotle Chicken Sandwich--grilled chicken, cheese, that sweet & tangy chipotle raspberry sauce, all on one of the freshest buns I've had in a long time. Juicy, flavorful, and came with fries that were seasoned just right. Honestly, I wish I had a side of that raspberry chipotle sauce just for the fries because the ones that caught extra sauce were SO good. The other two subs had to wait until I got home that night, but even a few hours later they held up. The Cod Sub was thick, flaky, and perfectly topped. The Buffalo Chicken Sub had good flavor without being overwhelming (and I'm kind of a spice wimp, so if I can handle it, it's definitely on the milder side). And can we talk about the bread? SO good. I don't know if they bake it in-house or get it from somewhere special, but it's not your standard cheap sandwich bread. It really makes the difference. Overall, I'm super impressed. Great food, great service, and clearly a local favorite. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town--probably after my next camping trip. If you live in Washington and haven't tried this place yet, you're missing out. And if you're just passing through on your way to I-44, do yourself a favor and grab a sub to go. read more

Ended up bringing half home for later. Ordered the app sampler, let me say, the portabello mushrooms, loaded fries and onion rings were amazing. The place was about half full, and everyone left with take out boxes. (ginormous portions, I told you!) Very clean, as soon as a table left, it was cleaned and sanitized. I would give negative stars, but I can't! This is the absolute worst establishment in all of Washington! The manager / owner was completely rude to me and very unprofessional! I simply asked for an update on the eta of the prep time and he immediately got mean and a negative tone and said, "When it's done! It's not up yet!" When I asked again for an estimate he got irate and then said, "Leave!" and kicked me out and refused to give me the food. The OMG turkey was a perfect sandwich for lunch. Not too heavy, but plenty big enough to keep me full well into dinner time! The bread is perfect. Slightly crunchy (very slightly) crust with the rest being nice and soft (i.e. none of those roof of your mouth scrapes from overly crunchy crust french bread). Very good experience for my first time here, while visiting for an athletic competition in town. Had the Spicy Italian Sub which was delicious, some perfectly cooked lemon pepper wings and a tasty pepperoni pizza. Interestingly enough on the pizza, they slice the pepperoni fresh and place it on first, before adding the cheese over the top, so that it's covered when baked. Turned out perfect and would recommend all 3 items at this restaurant. Service was great and the setting is similar to a sports bar, but that's fine by me. read more

I moved back to the area two months ago and I absolutely love the two times I have been to Big Boys! Authentic Italian. Amazing food. Outstanding service. And the murals and layout of the restaurant are really cool. I don't plan on staying in Missouri long, but while I AM here I sure am going to be a regular! At least monthly, if not bi-weekly.
