We had a very nice lunch here when scouting a destination for the St. Louis area Model T club. While dining with friends, I enquired about having 25-35 people for lunch. They were very accommodating for us. The service was great for us that day, and they didn't disappoint when we came back with the tour group. Many places have a limited menu for large groups and a single check. The staff here is not like that! A full menu and separate checks made for club members. I had a great burger, and my granddaughter had a meatball with pasta. I noticed that the entire group was able to eat together not staggered. The kitchen must have been working double time. We had the room behind the bar, lots of exposed brick and dark wood. A perfect place for our group to recharge before heading out to our 100 year old cars to finish our outing. Lots of room for improvement here. I will start with the good part. We came with a party of 7. 514 has a beautiful roof top dining area overlooking the river. It has lots of potential. The server was a charming young man, extremely polite. He kept apologizing over and over for all the problems - the wait, the lack of drinks, the mistakes in the cocktails, the mistakes in the food. He was also inexperienced. Remember that roof top terrace? The bad side is that they have it poorly lit and freight train goes by frequently - five times the evening we had dinner there. The cocktails were a mess - one of our party ordered a dirty martini and got vodka and scotch with olives in it. I ordered a sangria which was fruitless and was more akin to a wine spritzer. How do you mess up cocktails? The food quality would be mediocre on its best day. I ordered a half cobb salad with no bacon and no onions. It was covered in bacon and onions. The shrimp chowder might have been good but it was served tepid. A lot of changes are needed here. read more

Friends invited us to check out 514 Chop House for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant is located on the riverfront in downtown Washington, MO, and reservations are accepted. I had previewed their menu before heading out and knew that they were priced on the higher end than our normal go-to places. I ordered the shrimp ceviche as an appetizer. This was so good and refreshing! It comes out in a martini glass and is served with a side of fresh pasta chips. For my main entree, I ordered the Tuna Au Poivre with a side of asparagus, and my husband ordered their catch of the day, which was a mahi mahi dish. We both really enjoyed our meals. Note: their Smokey Herb Vinaigrette on their house salad is A-MAZ-ING! Oh, so good!! Our server was very attentive and helpful. He was upfront that they were slightly short-handed that night, but he would do everything he could to get things out to us as quickly as possible. Appetizers and salads were served quickly, but we did have quite a wait for our main dishes. He brought out fresh bread to tide everyone (especially the kids in our party) over for a bit. 514 Chop House is another riverfront restaurant in Washington, Mo. This town is growing rapidly and the water's edge is very attractive. The restaurant scene is much more diverse than it was 5 years ago. A waitress got to our table within 5 minutes of being seated. We already had menus and a wine list. We gave our drink orders and studied the menu. I settled on the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin while my companion ordered the stuffed salmon. For my side dish I picked the creamed spinach. The entree includes a side salad which was spring greens with cucumber, tomato and cheese. We both got the balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The salads were quite nice and were served quickly. My companion loved the salmon stuffed with shrimp and scallops. I liked the pork loin very much but would have preferred less cooking time since it was a bit dry. That is my opinion because I like a moist medallion and I believe we tend to overcook pork here. This is a nice place for a meal. I think they will do well with their menu and service. read more

We had an absolutely amazing lunch here yesterday. Was in the Washington area and decided to check out this place along the Missouri River. What an awesome surprise. Quality food in a friendly atmosphere with all the attention to detail that you would expect of a 4 star restaurant. I had the BBQ ranch chicken club sandwich and it was out of this world. Perfectly cooked pounded thing chicken breasts with a delicious BBQ ranch sauce. This is a large old power house converted to a bar/grill with entertainment and a roof top patio. This place was almost empty and I understand why. I ordered a burger well done but it came medium rare. I told the waitress they could make people very ill serving ground beef like that. I told her to take the burger off our bill since I didn't eat a bite of it and it was way under cooked. The bill came and instead of a refund for the uneaten burger they took two dollars off the bill. My wife went to the manager and he gave us the full credit. Stopped in today Saturday 7/23, meeting some family here for lunch. Sat on the rooftop patio, nice spot with a huge fan providing a nice breeze and being able to take in the river view. But that unfortunately, was the best part of the experience. Started with the foul tasting beverages, ice tea tasted spoiled, Dr Pepper off tasting. Ordered appetizers and waited 20-30mins for those to arrive. Meatballs, calamari were decent. My wife order the BBQ burger for a main it was burnt to a crisp and my Bacon ranch chicken sandwich yes pathetically thin! Chicken couldn't have been maybe an 1/8 inch think. I want to be clear, this review is for "the 514" not "514 Chop House". The chop house was my family's favorite restaurant on the river front and our go to place when we had out of town company over. Recently we heard it had changed its name to The 514 and were hoping that was as far as the changes had gone. We recently went down to the river front and thought we would give the new look/menu a try. It was nothing like the chop house. The menu went from a high end steak house to a diner style full of fried foods. I don't know what happened to cause this catastrophe but I wish they would go back to the chop house. The service is still amazing but the food was horrible and made everyone feel sick due to how greasy it all was. After the experience I found it amusing that they still take reservations as if people would actually want to reserve a table to eat frozen food thrown into a fryer. We will not be returning unless we see the old chop house return. read more

So, yes it's upscale, but... Kind of feel like they're a bit full of themselves. It was good. But it was also VERY expensive. We sat on the roof, which was nice for not having to worry about COVID as much as if we'd sat inside. AND the view was really great, but we had trouble seeing our plates because the lighting around the pole of the umbrella was going dim. Hubby and I ordered and split the Stuffed Salmon which was VERY tasty. It came with a House Salad and we'd requested both Ranch and Smokey Herb Vinaigrette on the side. The salad was almost gone before she finally got the Ranch to the table. The side we chose was Dirty Rice, which I thought was just strange (like hamburger mixed with regular rice - very little seasoning). Somebody ordered the Shrimp Ceviche and shared it with the table. She did the same with German Chocolate Cake. THAT'S the kind of friend I like to eat out with!!! Both of those were excellent. I ordered a drink that was good, but very small and very expensive. One of our top ten worst meals. The building is nice. The server was good (once they decided to finally wait on us due to a mix up with the hostess). We almost left since we sat waiting for a server to come over, for about 10-15 mins. The food was so overly salted that it was inedible. It was like quadruple the amount. Even the salad dressing was salty. I can't stress enough on how much salt they used. Insane amount of salt. On top of that, undercooked. We should have said something when the chef came by. At that rate, we wanted to leave. The other half feels like they over salted the food, on purpose. That's possible but maybe the kitchen is just that bad with seasoning. Maybe it was a bad night, maybe it was retribution......but we're not going back to find out. We don't write this review lightly. We want local, mom and pop places to succeed. read more

A disaster. Ordered house burger cooked medium. Burger arrives and I cut it in half to find it raw in the middle. Notified server. The burger comes back...same burger...over cooked! Just went to lunch there and the food was good. Although our waitress had a mask on, when our food came out the host/bartender helped carry food out without a mask and he was talking. When I called attention to him not wearing a mask he stated that Washington had lifted the mandate and he didn't need to. I asked the waitress to send back the food and ask for a new dish to be made. The waitress was very nice. As I looked around another man, looked like a manager, was behind the bar without a mask. This made me wonder if the management doesn't wear mask what does the kitchen staff do. I would hope the establishments would want to keep their guest safe. I had COVID and it is horrible. My immunity is gone and I don't want to get it again. I will now always ask before I am seated if the kitchen staff is wearing mask along with the servers. They recently changed the menu to be more family friendly and priced better, so we tried it out. Love the fact that you can try different tastes with the sliders. Beef, Chicken and Pork sliders. The selection of sides made it hard to pick from, they all sounded so good, the street corn was AMAZING. I got the bbq beef slider. Very good and so was the fried zucchini. (I chose 2 sides and 1 slider) They have boozy shakes, which my husband had the maple bourbon. He loved it. Kids thought there shakes were delicious (cool whip seemed different than normal and they loved it) Our waitress was super friendly. My wife and I have been meaning to get here for a couple weeks now. FINALLY! We walked in on a Wednesday evening about 6:30. They do take reservations, which is a rarity it seems nowadays. There was no wait and no one sitting in the front dining area. We kinda got worried! There was a party or two going on in the back dining area so that is an option for anyone. We were seated by a kind host from the front door. Our helpful waitress was up front with the specials and catch of the day selections. We were excited to see that the drink menu had Pimms Cups on there! We discovered those in New Orleans and learned that it is not a common drink. Has a lot of ingredients. The bartender did a fantastic job of preparing them. We ordered the Charcuterie Board that had a nice assortment of meats, bread coins, and some toppings of green olives, cheeses, and cranberries. Main course we shared the 16 oz. Porterhouse, added shrimp and lobster. Sided with a salad and twice baked potato. Steak was phenomenal. Shrimp and lobster were cooked just right and weren't overwhelmed by seasoning and the butter was on the side. Sides were pretty darn good. Only suggestions was the salad did not have that fresh crispy feel. made the whole thing slightly bland. With the quality of the rest of the meal I am pinning that up as a fluke. My husband and I visited this new restaurant in Washington. The building has a cool brick warehouse vibe and sits across from the river. The filet was the highlight of our meal. It was perfectly cooked and tasty. Unfortunately, the rest was a disappointment. The Caesar salad was bland and way over dressed. The lobster tail was rubbery and the cheesecake was meh. High price, low quality. We ate there as a family for my birthday and Valentines. I ordered the 16 ounce porterhouse, medium. What I received was a thin (maybe a half inch thick, at best) that was over cooked and gray. i was only able to eat about two thirds as the rest was grisly and fat. The chef gave a lame excuse and took 20% off the steak. The other steaks at our table were fair, but no where worth the cost. The arancini appetizer was tasteless. I would not recommend 514 Chop House. If you want a mediocre steak, save your money and go to Colton's. read more
