My friend wanted to check this place out since it had adorable baby items and just cute knick knacks. After lunch we finally found this place tucked away in the shopping center in front of Jawaiian Irie Jerk Restaurant. OMG!!! This is the cutest store in Kaimuki. The home decor, jewelry, baby items...I could go on and on. Their baby hats were super adorable but quite pricey. I settled on some vintage Pyrex containers. What a deal! Only 16-18$. These go for quite a bit more on ebay, especially since you have to pay for shipping of these heavy items. I wanted to buy the whole lot! I also saw a cute set of rattan chairs and asian inspired table. I was trying to decide whether I wanted them or not but realized that something so nice would be stolen from my front porch. I tried to chat up the girl at the counter who was wrapping up my pyrex, but she didn't reply and gave a faint smile as if I was bothering her with my lackluster statement. Settled...I guess I won't buy them. Whatevs... I'm still happy about my hard to find vintage Pyrex cookware. Still a cute store. Still got tons of adorable things. According to other helpers...still need to find better store reps who understand a thing or two about customer service. Until then...I think I'll go to other adorable consignment stores that don't lack customer service, like Milieu in Waipahu. read more

They carry a mix of brands and the pricing could be a little lower for their less established/cheaper brands, but the buyer has a good eye for interesting and pretty pieces. I enjoy looking at their housewares. Good selection that rotates somewhat often, either that or I have a bad memory. This is my favorite place to look when I'm looking for variety of pieces. read more

I just randomly walked by this cute little store after lunch in the area, and their selection outside the store caught my eye. The store carries local-made, vintage, and vintage-inspired home and clothing items, most of which are on consignment. I love the home decor stuff and really really wish I could carry a cake stand and some vintage Pyrex bowls back to California! I needed to get some souvenirs so I ended up getting some little cards, candles, and a Big Island-made shell ring. I was intrigued by their clothing too but I just really don't need more clothes. There were a few dresses that I would have loved to get! I noticed that there were some older reviews bashing on the customer service at Sugarcane, but I didn't get the same treatment as they claimed. The owner Jill was very friendly and we had a pleasant little conversation about her story of moving from L.A. to Honolulu. Came here at 10:30 (opening time) to return something we got as a gift, but the store wasn't open. We waited for twenty minutes and still no signs of anyone! Usually it wouldn't be a problem and we would just come back, but they only have a seven day exchange policy and we live in Pearl City so it's not exactly easy for us to stop by every day. If you're going to say you open at 10:30 please be open otherwise you'll have more than a few disappointed customers. When we did finally get in, the worker apologized for being late saying that she was having breakfast with friends (really?!). I guess it didn't help that I was starving too and wanted to hurry and exchange my items so that I could eat. Two stars because they do have a nice selection of cute, locally made items. This is an adorable store with an adorable name. I love their little knick knacks and unique notepads, home decorations, and of course, their consignment clothing. That being said, walk in to this store with the full realization that it's a higher end consignment store - so expect to be spending at least $25 on a used shirt (albeit in good condition). But, their clothes are high quality, and they all have a certain comfy-soft-fabric-while-not-looking-dumpy feel to them. I've actually never bought anything in this store, mostly because the majority of the clothing pieces here are size S, which I am, ah, not. But I've sold things here, and I do enjoy going in and looking around - it's a sensory treat. Definitely worth a peek in. read more

This is a cute little shop in the Kaimuku cul-de-sac by Happy Days & Big City Diner but below Bella Mia. We stumbled upon it, luckily! Such a cute shop, even if you just want to browse around. The local craft vendors that they buy from offer a lot of jewelry items and from what we saw, a lot of beachy-looking items (shells and such). They even have a small baby section with blankets, clothing, etc. If you're cool with consignment and wearing previously worn items, more power to you. There is a section just for you. I wouldn't say that I would have to make it down there on a regular basis, but If you're in the area, why not browse around and if you find something you want, use your check-in deal for 20% and make your day! read more

Super cute place in Kaimuki!!! Ugh this place inspires me to go vintage and start collecting and crafting items. Stopped by when I needed a birthday gift. They have uber cute cottage-by-the-sea-ish items, reminiscent of Kailua boutiques. I got an individual Kleenx cloth holder with animals on it and a hand made coin purse for a friend. I spied handcrafted jewelry using shells and beach glass, vintage, ceramic and porcelain dishes probably culled from donation stores, and hand made clothing or consignment clothes. I wanted to spend more time looking over items, the store is small but has enough merchandise that one could spend a substantial amount of time ooohing and ahhing over things. After purchasing my items I got a coupon for 15% off my next purchase, can't wait to stop by again. read more

Just stopped in last night before dinner. I've been here a handful of times before. Love the beachy vibe of the store. Looks like a cottage filled with collectibles when you first walk in. I've bought a few milk glass pieces. There was a ton of shell/beach glass/bead bracelets that caught my eye! There's just something that looks so fun and cute when you see a bunch of bracelets on a wrist! Was tempted but just browsed. Oh Sugarcane, you are easily one of my favorite shops on the island! This place is adorable and quaint, but filled with so much goodies that you could spend an hour perusing the walls. It's my go-to for baby gifts and if ever I end up with a little one I would register here if I could They've got all sorts of unique items, and I'm pretty sure most of it, if not all, is locally made. It kinda has an old bookstore vibe to it... like it's filled with all these great stories that could sweep you off your feet and just whisk you away for an afternoon of daydreaming. . .(this daydreaming would almost certainly involve a beach.) I'm not gonna lie and say I love the prices--I don't--but I understand why they are what they are and I personally think it's worth it. I'm happy to support our local economy and our local creators. I met Jill the owner a number of years ago when I brought a buyer for the place she was living in. Having an interior designer as a tenant means your place shows really well....there was a Pottery Barn meets laid back Hawaii girl beach vibe to the place and I couldn't get enough of it! Even bought a dining table that resembled Jill's as I was so inspired by the look with a large glass jar filled with sand, white starfish and a large three wick candle. A short while later Jill opened Sugarcane. Cool style always brings an air of class and makes any space feel upscale. Sugarcane is filled with unusual, beautifully made items you don't usually see in most stores. They've got handmade pillows, vintage glassware, a small but pretty selection of shell and pearl jewelry, some vintage consignment items in the back and adorably cute baby items all handmade. I love going into this store to find little knick-knacks. The prices aren't cheap for a consignment store but I saw a vase and a mug once that I had to buy. It's was way too cute to not belong on my shelf. (I don't ever plan to use the mug for it's real purpose.) Regarding response from Jill...I called and returned to your store (within 3 weeks) in hopes to at least get a store credit. I think that's not asking a lot. Offering a store credit on a damaged item would seem smart business thing to do actually. (Going into a paid lot with two kids specifically to return an item wasn't on my "hot" list and as stated, I was to be in the area which is why I made the effort that day.) What made me think I deserved a credit or refund is that in my search on eBay I did come across another teacup that I liked a lot and bought. Had a slight problem with it and the seller was very accommodating. Therefore I thought I'd chance it to attempt to return the chipped teacup. Jill...instead of making me into a grateful customer...I am not likely to return to your store...and I want to share my experience because I wouldn't want someone else to pay a good price on a damaged item...and experience the "service" I got. It seems to me you could have also contacted your consigner to ask them if they'd mind my returning their item due to damage. The consigner seems more important to you than the customer. Also, I was really put off by the "busy" comment and when I read the other reviews on yelp, I saw that I wasn't wrong to feel slighted. Also there was an implication that I'd damaged the item, when I called and spoke to you and another of your sales staff. That's not nice and not a cool way to treat your customers. I was extremely careful with that teacup and the damage did not occur in my possession. read more

On the consignment side of Sugarcane: Dropped off a bunch of designer clothing and purses worth close to $500. All I ended up with was a measly $88 check after everything sold. Trying to collect my money was like pulling teeth. I had called a week in advance to make an appointment to pick up any unsold items and my check. Of course, I had to leave several messages and never rec'd a return call. I finally got the owner on the phone and she told me to come in a week from Tuesday @ 11am so she would have time to pull my items from her inventory and calculate what she owed me...Showed up on Tuesday @ 11am and she didn't know who the heck I was or why I was there. It was quite insulting. She made me wait over 30 minutes while she frantically rummaged thru her store looking for my items and just quickly added up some numbers and wrote me a check. She said she would give me an itemized breakdown of my sales but never did. She promised an email inventory sheet but never sent it. To make matters worse, when I initially dropped off my items she said the cut was 50/50, but when I picked up my items she said it was 60/40 (in her favor, of course). I just cut my losses and should have just sold my items myself on ebay. The owner is rude, forgetful, irresponsible, arrogant and standoffish...but when I gave her my items months earlier she was sweet, engaging and friendly. It was like a split personality and I don't know why she made me feel awful for picking up MY items and MY check. She just wants to take, take, take and won't deliver when it's time to pay back the very people who supply her with free inventory. I can't imagine this place staying in business much longer. read more

Beware - do not do any consignment business with this owner, she does not give you the money for the items sold!! My friend and I brought several items of nice clothes, some of which I never wore. I told the owner not to sell them really cheap, because some of my clothes were new and pricey. My friend went in to check on our consignments, and a sales person said that we had about $38.00 coming to us. My friend wanted to speak to the owner about the amount, but the girl said she was on vacation. My friend was told that the owner would call her upon her return. Of course the owner never called her, so my friend returned to the shop to talk to the owner about the consignment. The owner was utterly rude to her, and told her that she wasn't going to give her any money since it had been a while. Mind you, my friend had made several purchases there, sold our clothes, and never gave us the money for it. What a crook!! Even though the amount of money was nominal, the owner of this shop has really bad business practice and ethics! Do not do any business with her! read more
