9-25-21 Third stop during my When On Waialae exploration. As I entered the shop, co-owner Kennedy asked me something like what have you been up to today? That caught me by surprise in a nice way, acknowledging my presence. My answer, I'm visiting some shops on the WOW event. She asked where have I been so far... Cool, we were the only ones in the shop so we had time to chit chat before I took a stroll around this shop filled with carefully selected items for sale. Struck a genuine interest in the one time fanatic craft fair goer in me. So many lovely items...I settled on about 7+ tiny items for a special someone whose birthday is next week. As I was being rung up a necklace caught my eye. Thank goodness for the 20% discount off one item- ooh yay, happy me! Hopefully I might wear it in La Jolla soon. Kennedy wrapped the items in tissue for me after using correction tape to white out the prices and placed them in a cute white tote bag. So glad I told hubs( who was waiting in his AC car) that I wanted to venture out and check out a few highlighted shops. I knew that with him in tow I had to be strategic before the his nap time attack appeared. Thankyou Kennedy, Yelp & Jess for setting up this exclusive adventure. So many nice shops, so little time. For the soul shoppers, truly a shop til you drop excellent event.

What a super cute little shop! Loved that this place has so many hand crafted items from local artist. When I walked in I felt welcome by the brightness of the light that filled the little shop also by the friendly cashier that greeted me upon entering. I enjoyed browsing around admiring all the interesting unique items and walked out with 2 beautifully scented candles. Thanks to Yelps check in I scored 20% off one regular priced item! If you're looking for a unique gift for yourself or someone special I recommend checking this place out!

I had just finished dining at Earl's awesome sandwich shop and decided to take a peek inside Sugarcane, a local shop with all kinds of unique hand made items from necklaces to tea towels. This small but decorative shop, has a nice local vibe and a variety of hand made in Hawaii items that are sure to please that special someone in your life. I decided on purchasing an all natural bamboo dining set; consisting of a knife, fork, spoon, chopsticks and a straw inside a handy canvas material with snap carrying case. I also choose a bright pink lettered Aloha coin purse as a gift for my Lady. A bit on the pricey side but worth it for these unique gifts that have that Islsnd feel. So grab a gourmet custom sandwich across the way at Earl and cruise in to Sugarcane to shop and support local small businesses. Love and live the ALOHA!

From the outside looking in you already know that it's gonna be special. Sugarcane has an incredible selection of handcrafted items that locals knows and understand that it's uniquely made from the 808. You have rainbows, shells and tea towels and much more to choose from for that difficult one that has everything. I decided on two things for myself sort of that "me time" pampering items...the cutest oil diffuser and a aromatherapy pillow filled with organic lavender & flaxseed that you can use for both hot or cold therapy made with the cutest shave ice print! Stickers, macrame plant hanger even local recipe books yes you need to check this is the ultimate retail therapy therapy lol!!

All kinds of fun items.

A fun place to shop for made in Hawaii gifts to send to folks on the mainland or for yourself or a friend! Support local! Items range from jewelry to clothing to soap and lotion to macramé plant hangers and even cute mushroom pegs to stick into your potted plant. There are even Hawaiian themed children's books by local authors. If you are parking in the big parking lot on 11th Ave to eat somewhere be sure to take a few minutes to stop and browse inside Sugarcane before or after eating.

"One of these things is not like the others, One of these things just doesn't belong, Can you tell which thing is not like the others..." Juxtaposed in a corner of an old Kaimuki shopping center, amidst ALL the restaurants sits a bright and airy space that just doesn't seem to fit in this Kaimuki scheme of things. It's SUGARCANE - sugar and spice and everything nice! It's ocean and sea inspired thingamajigs, something old, something new, something BLUE. It's refreshing! It's the perfect place to shop for while waiting for a table at your favorite restaurant. it's a tiny store that packs a punch of this and thats. It's the place to Get Salty and to exalt buying local. I got Salty and a whole lot of happy from this beautiful spot. Parking's a squeeze in this tightly knit place but don't despair, patience wins over frustration.

Gorgeous earrings. All materials are natural and from our local beaches!

I love this store! It's filled with wonderful vintage and eclectic things. There were at least 20 things in this store that I wanted to buy. I'd say that sugarcane is a great place to find original pieces to decorate your home or purchase cool gifts. I walked out of the store kinda disappointed that I was empty handed BUT! when I checked in on Yelp, I discovered the 20% off one item check-in offer. SCORE! I walked back in and bought gorgeous earrings made by a local designer. But what made my purchase even more glorious is that today they had a sale for 25% off all locally made jewelry. Highlight of my day!! I will definitely be back!

Love mine!

My favorite store on the island. I fell in love with the rainbows pillows from the parking lot and that lured me in and I was hooked. I think I bought most of the pillows and then kept coming back to find gifts for family and friends! Locally made items with love. Can't wait to come back!

I LOVE this store! They have so many Made in Hawaii trinkets & gifts at such an affordable price. I went down today to Christmas shop since everything is 15% off for supporting small businesses. Got some lavender aromatherapy pillows, Turkish beach blankets (got a Turkish bag for free for buying 2 blankets), some jewelry bowls, stickers. You can find something in there from baby gifts, local soaps & scents, grocery bags, purses, jewelry, house decor.. you just have to go if you've never been before! Parking is right outside the store in the parking lot.

If a mermaid fell in love with a human and came to live as a mortal in Honolulu I'm pretty sure this is the store she would own. Located in Kaimuki, Sugarcane is nestled in the oddest little shopping center. It's next door to Earl sandwich shop, Himalayan Kitchen and a bunch of other shoe box sized businesses. I meandered into this den of curiosities as I waited for my sammie next door and I'm so glad I took the time to explore. The store is stuffed to the brim with hand picked specialty gifts with a bohemian sea theme threading its way through the store. Gorgeous coral and seashell printed pillows, custom made hand towels, delicate jewelry, surfing and foodie table books, adorable glass mushrooms for your garden, vintage glassware and more cuteness than you could possibly stuff into a single review! It made me wish I had a special friend to buy something for because everything just felt like it was sprinkled with magical unicorn dust! Sugarcane proves that mermaids have impeccable taste and are very talented merchandisers. I didn't buy anything today because I had to rush off to my lunch but I'm certainly going to return to buy a gift in the near future. They have 20% off one item with your Yelp check-in and I've got my eye on a few pretty baubles that might just end up in my jewelry drawer.

Green coral & blue chevron! Loooooove!

All my friends call me the bag lady, haha. Anyways, I recognizes these bags right away. They're from Eden in Love. They have the cutest bags ever. This is the biggest collection that I've seen. They probably have all the design and sizes. Most places only carry the medium size as it's their most popular. Here they have it in small, medium and large. I couldn't help myself and had to get one. I got the medium Sushi Crew bag $18. Service was ok. The cashier was nice. The sales guy working the floor seemed irritated when I asked him to help me locate the bag.

I try to avoid Simply Home (at Kahala Mall) because there are cute things at the front of the store... luring me in... I tell myself I don't NEED more stuff... However... The merchandise in this store is useful. Dish towels, tote bags, shower curtains, hooks, pet supplies, kitchen gadgets, trivets, and charging cords are some of the items in stock. I even saw a bunny toothbrush holder and a panda hand sanitizer... so cute! I will return to get gifts - especially for mainland friends. Some of the designs have Aloha themes like local grinds... such as okazuya, pineapples, and laulau! Service is very friendly and positive! There was a young man who was sincere about wanting to help me find whatever I was looking for! Thank you! Anyway... it turned out that my friend wanted to get me a Bowl Hugger. It's like a potholder that goes around your bowl when you place it in your microwave, so you can protect your hands from the hot bowl when it comes out from the microwave! Clever, thoughtful gift, right?

" I came the other day to return a Christmas present my daughter received! The sales clerk would not give my a merchandise credit even it was clearly a SOHA Living item marked $35.80 with NO red line! She said since I did not have a gift receipt or know my daughters girlfriends name so they could look it up, there was Nothing she could do!!! Really? I asked for the supervisor/manager! That's when Rita came to the counter, again asking me all those same questions that I didn't know! Why should it matter?? I have your merchandise, not marked down!! Plus, I showed her a 1/2 page advertisement that was in the newspaper stating "After Christmas SALE up to 70% off". I had come in on 12/26 and there were only signs of 50% off! When I asked, what was 70% off, the girl at counter said it was online! But she couldn't find anything online that was 70% off! So very misleading! FALSE ADVERTISING!! So when Rita said she had to call her manager, I told her to ask about the ad! Well, Rita returns and finally gives me a gift card for $35.80. No tax? I'm sure all my credits have included the tax!! Also, she didn't talk to anyone and just decided to do " the right thing" But claimed she did not give me a hard time! I really like this store and appreciate 2 sisters who went to Punahou started this business and SoHa Keiki but will have to think twice on patronizing them because of the bad customer service! Koolau Farmers - Tropical flowers are sturdy!

Koolau Farmers is a locally owned/operated nursery and garden supply business that are home…read moregardening experts. It was started in 1938 by East Oahu farmers and a Kailua papaya cooperative as a farmer-founded business entity that shifted from farming to home gardening. Today, it supplies plants, floral arrangements, fertilizers, pesticides, garden tools, etc. for home gardeners. There are currently two locations for Koolau Farmers: Kaneohe and Honolulu (McCully). This review is for the Honolulu location. Items that the McCully location carry include: bromeliads, flowers, fruit, orchids, palms, fruit trees, peppers, tropical fruits, shrubs, soil, trees, veggies, hono hono orchids, dwarf fruit trees (Meyer lemon, Tahitian limes, Naval oranges, jabong, grafted mango, avocado). It also offers seed starting supplies, fertilizers for plants and flowers, worm composting bins; and info re growing and care of indoor potted plants, organic gardening, soil testing, and proper lighting. What brought us to Koolau Farmers is my lilikoi vine that I've had in my back yard for a number of years. With the help of bees, the vine had flourished and produced many delicious fruits for homemade lilikoi desserts, such as lilikoi chiffon pie, lilikoi curd, lilikoi bars, and more. But in recent years, the flowers would bloom, but because there are no bees to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, no fruits are produced. Questions to Koolau Farmers confirmed that there is a lack of nesting sites for carpenter bees (I think they're known as the black bumblebees that we no longer see) to pollinate the lilikoi flowers, resulting in a lack of fruit. According to Koolau Farmers, the flowers must be hand-pollinated instead. Staff provided instructions to my hubby on how to hand-pollinate the beautiful lilikoi flowers. A work in progress, and I'm sure more questions to follow. Then the next project will be our dwarf local orange tree. Where is the fruit? There's a single tiny orange on it, yes, only one! Hope Koolau Farmers can help us on this one! Another work in progress. Staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and provides helpful guidance. An unlikely spot in urban Honolulu to have a nursery and garden supply store, but I'm glad that it's there! The interior space is not that big, but houses boxes of fertilizers and various home gardening equipment for home gardeners. There may be displays of seasonal items on how to grow certain plants, such as hono hono orchids. Open daily from 8a to 5p. Free parking in the private lot. On the outside private lot are scattered variety of healthy local plants, herbs, orchids, and fruit trees. We look forward in working with Koolau Farmers and knowing that they are there to help us with our home gardening needs!
