Showcasing local Artisans, Nohea Gallery has curated a gorgeous collection of paintings, prints, jewelry, wooden serving pieces, koa carvings, ceramics and glassware. The pieces are just lovely making the purchasing decision difficult. It's not about "what should I buy?" but which should I buy! Laniki Beach is my absolute favorite place and there is an oil painting that captures the path leading to this little slice of paradise. For $500, it's on my short list. They have a great assortment of high quality tea towels, tablecloths and napkins in gorgeous prints and colors, most in shades of the sea, sand and sky. They would make a lovrly gift or would set your own table apart. Even the small jewelry dishes are unique and beautiful. I especially like the ones with sea turtles and the ones with plumeria, my favorite flower. The jewelry is delicate and most crafted with pears or aquamarine stones and coral. Available in gold and silver. There are earrings, necklaces, lots and lots of bracelets, rings. Wide assortment, something for everyone. If you are done with the mass produced items and want something unique, handmade and high quality that you will proudly display, wear or gift, stop by Nohea Gallery and find your treasure.

"When you buy something from an artist, you're buying more than an object. You're buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You're buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You're not just buying one thing, a piece of a soul...a piece of someone else's life." - Unknown Wandering about Kahala Mall, I was drawn into Nohea Gallery's newest store. Nohea Gallery is known for featuring various art forms from local artists and artisans. Today, I was met by sales associate, Leilani, who has a bright smile and exuded welcoming Aloha. During my visit, I had the opportunity to talk with and watch local wood turning artist, Willie Ridep. He was working on a piece of silk oak and turned it into a beautiful raw bracelet. Unfortunately, he couldn't do any sanding or smoothing because the demonstration was indoors. However, I can only imagine how beautiful that bracelet will be in its finished form and I hope to see more of his custom made pieces in the store soon. When Nohea Gallery's original location in Ward Warehouse was recently demolished, the owners opened at the Hyatt Regency Waikīkī but also searched for a second location. I think this location in Kāhala Mall is probably the best for both local residents and visitors. There's a lot of free parking in the mall's multiple parking structures and there are others stores and restaurants where you can shop or dine in this enclosed shopping mall. Whether you're looking for a special piece of locally designed jewelry or art work that will enhance your island-style home décor or a whimsical piece, I think you'll find it here. Prices are reasonable for the high quality of design and artistry.

I've walked by Nohea Gallery many times but never actually walked in before. A friend had told me that they also have koa bowls which I love to collect when they're not too expensive. From the outside I always thought they just had paintings. I was surprised that they've got a beautiful koa collection, but out of my price range. The paintings weren't my style, but they have some beautiful pieces. I will come back when I get a raise and can afford it lol.

This is a wonderful shop at Ward Warehouse in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, which showcases the work of local artists of Hawaii! All types of media are used - metal, ceramics, glass, paper, as well as natural treasures like pearls and shells. There are wooden bowls, paintings of various sizes, pens, bookmarks, jewelry, and so much more! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a warm Aloha Spirit. The lush surroundings enhance your shopping experience as you browse through the exquisite handmade products. Everything is unique and fabulous! Free parking is a bonus! Come and check out this shop if you want a special gift from Hawaii. Get a present for someone special or treat yourself to a quality souvenir! Aloha!

March 13, 2015 on a Friday I entered Nohea Gallery for the first time at the Ward Warehouse. I noticed all the beautiful koa carvings whether it be bowls, jewel cases, earrings, or bookmarks. I was so tempted to buy a koa bookmark on this day which I'll buy it on my next trip to Honolulu. You might be wondering "Why would you need a bookmark?" My answer is "I still have 30 books to read and I would need it in case I ever loose a place when I'm reading a book. Yes I do have to turn the page...I don't have a digital version of the book." I also noticed the beautiful paintings, photos, and glass merchandises. I was browsing through the individually wrapped photographs and noticed all the different sceneries. Photos of the beaches, photos of Diamond Head, or photos of Waikiki. On the back of each photograph is information of the photographer who took the shots. I seen some other items that I liked which I would have to save money in order to purchase. Someday in the future I'll be back...hopefully the merchandise that I like is still available.

An unfortunate and sad backwater relative to the bright Koko Head Cafe next door. You won't find aloha here. Shop local elsewhere.

It's a craft supply store. A quaint small mom and pop style craft store that can easily be a gift…read moreshop as well, to pick up those unique gifts for housewarming and other special events. It's a cute store that's very well hidden, if you weren't looking. I blame the 2016 Pokemon Go fad / craze for my discovery of The Craft Bear. It just happened to be next to the Koko Head Cafe, where a Pokemon gym happened to be. When I walked through there, I noticed The Crafty Bear and never new this place existed. I blame my ignorance over the years and I've lived in the area for a significant period of time too. Still, it was a good find for me in the heart of Kaimuki. One thing is for sure, this place is HOT! Not amazing, but very freaking humid. I felt the air quality drop 15 points when I went inside and there's no wind in the store. The store itself is quite small, but it can be maneuverable. It feels like it's someone's closet and they're pretty much having a garage sale, but organized so neatly that it's quite nice to see their collection. I really wish that this place have some air condition, but it is what it is. The overall experience here was pretty neat actually. Like going to the swap meet at Aloha Stadium, but it's a little different with what The Craft Bear has to offer. At least the lady tending the shop was nice, keeping an watchful eye on me. I'd recommend this one, if you've been to the others and can't find what you need. Consider coming here. The Crafty Bear offers the patron a nice but limited selection of various crafts and also has decorative vases for indoor use. I surely could use a couple of them for some feng shui applications at home. If the arts and creative stuff is your game, feel free to come here to discover what you may be missing in your latest project or get ideas and inspiration for your new project. Art is always nice to be creative and let your imagination run wild in the most opportunistic ways. The Crafty Bear sells some basic supplies as well as other fun stuff you can play around with. They are located at 1145 12th Avenue, #B, right next door to the aforementioned Koko Head Cafe and next to the Kaimuki branch of First Hawaiian Bank. The Crafty Bear seems out of place, but it's a good discovery when Kaimuki town is still in transition - even in 2016! They accept credit cards, visa and MasterCard only, which is quite nice. The parking here can be awkward, with paid parking across the street. There are nearby residential parking for free, but you'll need a walk about half a block - maybe more - depending on where you park. If you are like me, TheBus routes 1, 1L, 14, and 9 run by here and stops at the quintessential Koko Head and Waialae Avenue bus stop. The prices here are generally adequate. You can find some good bargains here, although the quality can be comparable to what you'd find elsewhere on the island. Probably be best that you'd price compare before committing to buying. While I do support local businesses, I'm always budget conscious too, stretching that dollar to some good value to where it's needed most. While the selection here in kind of lacking, sometimes you can get stuff here that you don't normally elsewhere, so it's definitely worth the look over here at The Crafty Bear in Kaimuki. The service here can be touch and go, but what's new about a small mom and pop business anyway. I felt that it was a good average time spent here. While I did have my eye on some nice indoor vases, I figured that I should have shopped around elsewhere before coming here to get the best deal. As long as they look pretty and the price was reasonable, I took that gamble and got a couple of them. It looks really good and happy with my purchase. For what it's worth, there can be deals to be had here, if you know what you are looking for. You just may find it and glad that you found this place before someone else did. 4.0 stars for being in Kaimuki (location). The fact that I did stumble upon this place was a coincidence, but happy that I did. While the service can be okay, 3.5 stars for that and the quality of the goods for sale was better than I expected. 4.0 stars. The presentation could be a tad better, but it is what it is. 4.0 stars overall. Hidden gem, depending on what crafts you're into. Support local! B
