While on vacation on Oahu, I randomly thought to check and see if there were any fountain pen stores on the island as that's a gabby my wife and I share, and we're always happy to be able to see pens in a store since it's never the same just seeing pictures online. This place was highly recommended online, and their work looks great, so I reached out to see if we could stop by. There was some back and forth about timing but we arrived on a day and time and we showed up a little early and waited around, tried texting and calling but didn't get a response, but the staff saw us and welcomed us in, the place is amazing! They have a lot of amazing wood designs made by the owner as well as glass and other items made by other local artisans. We got three pens and some soap. The fountain pen in particular was noted as an exceptional pen with the quality of materials, how it is made, the weight, thought put into design and use, and quality of writing! I was so happy that he would fix it because there is a sentimental attachment to my clock. So besides buying a new clock I also got my clock repaired. This is a great local business to support selling hawaiian made products. I noticed them at the local craft fair couple weekends ago at the Blaisdell. The koa pens are beautiful. I didn't know how much work was actually put in to make a koa vase or box. It's amazing! The owner is a hard working young entrepreneur who knows a lot of wood and woodmaking. He was very helpful and was very accomodating with special orders! I'll have to visit the store one day after I get my favorite Leonard's malasadas. read more

They are located across the street from the famous Leonards Bakery, so have a Malasada and check it out. All their artisanal products are made in Hawaii. The variety of local art, wood carved products and even jewelry off the beaten path is different and felt more personal than typical hotel and Waikiki shopping. Incredible pens, I purchased a custom fountain. The young man/owner explained how he makes them and invested a ton of time making the experience memorable! Charming little shop that I only noticed due to having to wait to be seated next door at Il Lupino. I am certainly glad I came across it! From the moment I walked in with my mom, we were treated great by the one woman who was working behind the desk. I did not get her name but she had long blonde hair and was super friendly. She complimented us on our tattoos and our outfits and did some simple chi-chat. Sales pitch? Doubt it. Though a lot of the merch was beatiful and all hand-crafted, I was not expecting to buy anything but I fell for the light-weight earrings and a necklace. This store would probably see a lot more customers if it was in a better location, but at least everyone staying at the Royal Hawaiian or visiting Il Lupino will see it! Spend your hard earned money on some nifty gifts at Simply Wood rather than the overrated, lame Il Lupino next door! These people deserve credit! read more

They are high knowledgeable, and popular amongst both consumers and tourists, but they are pricey -- really hard to negotiate with the prices. I just crossed the street from Leonard's Bakery to see what was in this store called Simply Wood. Very nice stuff.....most of the items are made from koa There are clocks, wall decoration, a chess set, paddle board paddles, lamps, furniture, and more. The owner, Aaron, specializes in koa pens which he makes with beautiful inlays...all different. What a great gift...practical, but unique! Of course, I purchased one for a special friend. I found out that Aaron, also, is a local rep. for a paddle board company...so if you are interested in paddle boarding, he's the man to go to. read more

Wow... this gallery is awesome! I've been looking for handcrafted wood art for a long time and I finally found it at Simply Wood Studios. Their prices are reasonable then other places that I've been too. I had a chance to speak with the gallery's owner Aaron Lau and he's very knowledgeable about wood and a really nice guy! He even has a workshop in the back of the gallery... you can see him through the glass windows working on his beautiful pens that he makes. I was able to find a handmade Hawaiian Koa jewelry box for a birthday present and a pen for myself! :) I would definitely recommend this gallery to my friends! read more
