Decided to meet up with a friend to grab some food for the first time in McKinney. The food overall was delicious and the atmosphere just added to it. Started off with the Sugarbacon which had me a little nervous because I was thinking it was going to just be bacon which I'm not a fan of but it was some incredibly well cooked pork belly with a nice crispy exterior and a nice tender center bursting with flavor! The bee sting was a nice pairing too. For mains I went with the pork chop which was nicely cooked and served with a delicious peppercorn sauce. However, I wasn't a fan of the cauliflower rice it came with because it tasted a little too earthy and that was a bit overwhelming. Other than that the food was delicious and if you're in the area looking for food, this is a great option! P.S. I really like Sugarbacon, the one other time I have been here was for brunch. This particular time we bellied up to the bar to have some food and drinks. To start, a couple of mimosas. For entrée I ordered the Short Rib which comes with Mashed potatoes, red wine sauce, chives. The short rib was really tender and flavorful and the red wine sauce was a nice touch to add to the juiciness to "sop" up with your mashed potatoes. Also ordered was the Long Bone Pork Chop-Peach reduction, frisée salad, candied pecan. Always so happy to go and have a quick bite. Had the sugar bacon burger, a beautiful Manhattan, the brussel sprouts, and a pint. The service at the bar was sublime! Both of the bartenders worked in concert for flawless service. The food came out timely, I'm sure if it was extra servers or if it was the QAC. They were very on point as well. With tip it was $71. One would think for $71. I could get caramelized onions on my burger when it says its caramelized onions. What's next no truffles in the truffle fries? Grilled white onions are not caramelized. This is a high end eatery with super expensive aged steak. And I am sure that they are delicious as I'm hoping the trimmings were in my burger. We had a great meal there. And their craft drinks are pretty unique and amazing. Watch the video about the purple haze. It's unparallel as a creation. There's not a lot of alcohol in it but it's a pretty WOW drink. The bee sting cocktail was also pretty amazing especially if you like. Spicy margarita with jalapeño and touch of honey. Very interesting pretty darn good. On the food side, meatballs with bourbon sauce were fantastic and the Ménage Á Hog was super unique, extremely good dish and, I'm not sure about the chocolate bacon, but if you're a chocoholic, this is for you. The other two bacon pieces were incredibly good. The sauces that came with it were a fantastic molasses sauce and a spicy mayo. Both were pretty super good. Warning, DO NOT ORDER THE SUGARBACON. IT'S WARM, FRESH PORK RINDS SCATTERED OVER SOME OVERLY FATTY PORK BELLY STRIPS with a weak sauce. It's the restaurants namesake and 2. it's listed as a popular item here on yelp, so it's maddening how a restaurant can run out of a popular item such as this, but anyway...... Ordered the Ribeye tacos and Grilled Bone-in pork chop, the Pork chop was fine, nothing to write home about, like i said it was fine, but the Ribeye tacos on the other hand were bland, the flavor that stood out the most was the sour cream placed on top, i saw the beef, but i couldn't taste it and if there was feta cheese I didn't taste that either. I did have a speciality cocktail, i believe it was Fools Gold or Honey Gold (something like that) and I didn't taste either the honey or lemon that was supposed to be in it, the alcohol to non-alcaholic ingredient ratio was way off and simply tasted like the main ingredient out of the bottle. When my cousin, told me we were coming here- I was immediately worried because of the name "bacon" - I don't eat, bacon or any other animal. I left full as a tick & so happy. I ordered the mac & cheese - magical. It was so gooey and flavorful. Most other places, make it too dry and crunchy. Spaghetti squash hush puppies- magical. Never knew such a thing existed and I am in love. Then of course, I had the truffle fries- again, magical!!!!!! Hot and seasoned just right. I had 2 watermelon mule drinks- the best, I've ever had. I love ALL of the vibes here at Sugarbacon. This restaurant is located right in downtown McKinney and it is just so cute! I was surprised by how spacious it was when I walked in! The vibes are perfect. Love the open kitchen and the wall decor. The back patio is wonderful. Staff is super friendly. All a big win! We ordered the Bimosa flight which we were surprised was so inexpensive considering they bring you an entire bottle of brut and 3 juices of your choosing. It's incredible. From there we started with the sugar bacon and it was really tasty. The sauce was almost like a tikka masala sauce instead of BBQ and the meat fell apart like a pot roast. Very flavorful. Pairing with the watermelon made it interesting and nuanced and we were fans for sure! My wife ordered the French toast which was by far the best thing on the table. We shared the crispy Brussels which came in a close second. And I got the ribeye and eggs, which I wasn't altogether impressed with. Not bad but didn't blow me away. Still tasty. We enjoyed our meal. We ordered the scallops with cream corn and it was absolutely delicious. My son had the dry age Tomahawk steak. He enjoyed it. We came there on a Sunday evening when it was not that busy and yet it still took over an hour for our food to come out after waiting an additional 30 minutes for our server to come back and take the order l. I appreciated his reaching out and will give them another chance. ----------- Ate at Sugarbacon for Easter brunch. The buffet was ok, but really nothing special, especially for an Easter buffet. Mimosa flight was nice. Service was fine. We have eaten here several times in the past and usually enjoy the food and the experience. The main problem we had today was we noticed our bill seemed exceptionally high. Unfortunately, we noticed after we'd left that an additional 20% service charge had been added to our check. We had tipped 20% on top of that! By the way, we were only a party of 4, splitting the check 2 ways. I called the manager when we got home, and he explained they sometimes add the 20% extra service charge on holidays and busy times. He just said we should have read the receipt more closely. I guess it's our mistake for not noticing the extra 20% charge, but we will definitely never go back to Sugarbacon. There are much better options in McKinney. read more

We have been thinking about trying this place since before the pandemic but only got to go now, we ordered their pork ribs as a starter which was a pleasant surprise, we did not think it would be so good, my wife, who is not a pork rib person devoured it almost alone. I then ordered their braised short ribs which now has a different twist from the menu with a nice wine sauce and mashed potatoes, it was better than all of the fancy places I had this dish so far, my wife ordered their greets and shrimp, which she was crazy about, in her own words, that was the best shrimp she ever had, to wrap we ordered their brownie which was good but not the best, which is why I am giving 4 stars instead of 5. read more

We had an amazing date night here. The ambiance was perfect, service was great (we had Jess W as our server) & even the management stopped by to check on things. We started off with fried green tomatoes & deviled eggs, both amazing. My husband had the salmon, which he raved about & I had risotto & asparagus, all great. The mac & cheese was almost bland, as if it needed salt. And the peppercorn sauce for the steak tasted like plain vinegar, no pepper taste at all. FOOD/ DRINKS - I'll start by saying the SUGAR BACON is not what you think. you have never had bacon cut this thick before in your life. I'd recommend checking out pictures here first s you can easily order it as an entree itself. Nonetheless, I would argue and say it is one of the best options on the menu. Oh wait, the potatoes were so good as you can tell they we're cooked with butter added for that extra flavor. We also order an old fashion that was presented in such a way it will give most bars a run-for-it. Super smokey drink set the mood right. Our server was well-equipped to inform us of the specials along with any question on the menu. he even helped oder a special drink for my pregnant wife. At the end of the day the food was slightly above average, but not worth the wait. I would go back again for drinks specifically and a snack. We did order a few additional entrees to mix things up but nothing really caught my pallet's attention to bring me back again. Let me start with I don't do bad reviews, typically I just won't go back. Today was my second time coming here. We went a month ago with a party of 10 (we had a reservation) and we were told that the kitchen is backed up despite the place looking only 40% full. We waited almost TWO hours for food. Apology after apology and no food. They told us this doesn't ever happen, we finally got our food and it actually was pretty good. Fast forward to today. I went to celebrate my birthday with my family, we thought we would give them another try. (Again with a reservation) SAME THINg happened. Except it was worse. We ordered biscuits to start and it took 30 minutes. My poor kids were starving. A full hour went by and the same excuse! The manager was apologetic at first and then got defensive that "well you guys are a party of 10" I'm sorry what? Why take a reservation if you can't handle it? The restaurant was DEAD. We went to the bathroom and the kitchen staff was not backed up, they were barely working! NO SENSE OF URGENCY. I have never walked out before, our whole family told the manager that if in 15 minutes it doesn't come out we are leaving. (He kept telling us 5 more minutes 8 times) So after waiting now and hour and a half for no food we finally decided to leave. As we were leaving we had to flag someone down to pay for our drinks and biscuits. The younger manager FINALLY told us the truth. They have had MAJOR staffing issues and couldn't handle even 50% capacity yet they were still choosing to not turn people away. Moral of the story. I wish I knew this, so I'm sharing with you, avoid this place at all costs. They don't care if you have to wait, your lucky if you get your food, don't take kids there if you do go, and most likely they will be out of a lot of food. This place is new and modern and has a cool vibe. I ordered the spicy margarita drink and burger recommended by server. The burger was okay, the meat was "crumbly" and didn't stay together. My side dish came out incorrect but they did fix that quickly. Overall I think the place is okay but it's a little pricey for some of the menu items that are pretty average. We also had made reservations for 7 but didn't get seated until almost 7:20 inside when we asked for outside. The bartenders and servers need to make sure they are wearing their masks. read more

Great experience beginning to end. The host and servers were very accomodating when it came to our patio seating request and followed up with any requests made afterwards. Our server made excellent recommendations and we already can't wait to go back to try what was left. The food: The sugarbacon appetizer is a MUST- this is coming from someone that doesn't always love pork belly. It was cooked perfectly and the watermelon is a refreshing touch. The Brussels are different for any I have tried- not only is the flavor spot on but the flaky light texture doesn't not leave you with a heavy feeling after. Went for brunch, they were not busy. We were seated and brought water. We decided on the sugar bacon, truffle fries, brussel sprouts and chicken & waffles. Gave our order, waiter didn't write it down. Left, came back because he couldn't remember our order. Had another waiter walking around with white tape holding the sole of his shoe on. Wife used the restroom and had to find someone to address the condition (it was bad), the look she got from the waitress was almost like, "clean it yourself ", rather put off by it. Disappointed. We've eaten there before and had a much better experience. I can't say whether this is a one time thing or it is going downhill. On the positive side, the brussels sprouts were amazing, the short ribs sandwich was very good and the truffle fries were definitely worth coming back for. Unfortunately on the negative side the deviled eggs were not very tasty and the signature pork belly was mediocre. I remember it from the last time we were there and it was much better. So I had to go to McKinney early today for a meeting. We live about 5 miles west of Justin so, it's a long haul. I only had a light breakfast and a couple of cups of coffee so had a pretty sizable appetite. After the meeting wrapped up my wife and I really wanted something to eat, so we started looking for a place that had something different. Settled on this place. Quick check of the menu and I decided I'm going to order four appetizers and call it lunch. What a great choice. I love doing that as it gives me a chance to sample a number of menu items. They brought them out two at a time; we had the pork belly and fried green tomatoes. Second round we had the tater tots and the jalapeño mac & cheese. My daughter is a CIA trained chef from the Hyde Park location. I've cooked quite a bit since I was seven. It's often difficult for us to go out because most often I can cook better than the average restaurant. This place did not disappoint. Everything was extremely pleasant to eat, had very good flavor and was extremely fresh. Everything was served at a proper temperature and extremely well presented. Both front of the house and back of the house were a well oiled machine. After we ate we were closing out the tab and Herman came up to chat with us. In my opinion that's the sign of a really professional organization when someone who is empowered to make a change comes over and actually spends the time and talks with you. We traded some really good stories. What an extremely personable gentleman. Unfortunately I live about 60 miles; an hour and 20 minutes away. But I'm going to look for excuses to go back.
