Hidden gem. The cupcakes are great but the icing can be very sweet. I think they maybe use artificial flavoring on their cupcakes and icing, too, because it doesn't usually taste very natural. My favorite so far is the peanut butter and jelly cupcake. I also love the 'poppers'. read more

Used to absolutely love their cupcakes, especially the gourmet ones. But lately they've been over cooked, dry and tough as heck. Have called them to let them know, but they don't seem to have changed anything. It's been like this for over 6 months. Disappointing. read more

Nicest people who work there - open all hours but sadly, I was not impressed. They tried hard, but something about that frosting - yeow. Nothing light and fluffy about it and it left an aftertaste. Not a good aftertaste - Since the frosting is why I bother with a cupcake at all, it was disappointing. I know you guys are trying hard but I can't get past that. I've been there once, never went back. read more

my sis sent me a batch of cup cakes for my bday. half of them came upside down, but they were still delish! to sugarshack: you should probably have someone look at the expiration dates on things like milk before it goes out. read more

I love the Sugar Shack, don't get me wrong, but ... we stopped in last night to get a dozen cookies. So far, out of the oatmeal raisin cookies I had (two - one last night, one this morning and the chocolate chip cookies that my family had, they were all "gritty" - almost like the sugar didn't caramelize. This happens when a cookie is under baked. Sugar Shack, I love your products usually, but last night was a total let down. read more

Today is my younger brother's birthday. As things have been a bit crazy, i wasn't sure as to what to do about the day. But hey, there's an awesome place in Lansing that delivers cupcakes! Or so i thought. The website notes that delivery times are half an hour. Amazing! An hour after i placed the order, i text my brother to see how he liked his delivery. He lets me know that he's received nothing today, aside from the mail. Great. i call the establishment, a young woman pick up the phone, and i ask he what the status is on my delivery, and ask what's up. She lets me know that the delivery driver just showed up to work 2 minutes ago, and that my order would be going out straight away. "Hooray!", i thought, "There will be cupcakes." Fast forward to an hour and fifteen minutes later, another text to my sibling. Still no cupcakes. Another call to the establishment. This time, a man pick up the phone, and i enquire into the delivery status, and make the reasonable request that they knock some of the cost off the cupcakes. No go, he says, all he can offer me is an apology. That things were *super busy*, and he made a mistake in the previous delivery estimation. Well and fine, say i, but the fact that i was falsely told about delivery times once by the website, once by the staff member, and then wasn't notified of this when the mistake was discovered seems to be poor service. His response, "I'm sorry, but i wrote a really pretty note. And all i can offer is an apology." While i was on the phone, my brother texted me, letting me know he was leaving to have birthday supper with our father. So i made a third call, and had to have them completely cancel the order and refund my card. Thanks for making my brother's birthday a bit more dim, Sugar Shack. read more

Great service! Delicious cupcakes! I ordered cupcakes to be delivered to my sister who is currently interning at MSU for the summer. Yesterday was her birthday and I don't think she had any way to celebrate. Adrian was very accommodating and even added toppers and had the delivery driver (grubhub) sing to her. Thank you for helping make my sister's day great! read more

I just had to say that we order from here every time I have a cheat day and it's consistently delicious! The sugar cookie is my favorite! The only reason it isn't 5 stars is there isn't much variety in the way of cupcakes and I wish they had more than just cookies, cupcakes, and brownies but if ur looking for a sugar fix I highly recommend this place! read more

This is a cute little store, kind of in an odd location though. The cupcakes are huge and were delicious. There is only one table in the store and can quickly become cramped. We went later at night and there was only one employee. Depending on what day you go they have different flavor of cupcakes. I got the brownie sundae. You get to choose two topping and a sauce. It was very good and rich, we also got a root beer float cupcake that was equally delicious. I did however feel the cupcake was overpowered by the frosting. read more

I have gotten cupcakes and cookies from here several times, and have to say that I love their cookies, but am not super crazy about their cupcakes. The cupcakes' flavors are pretty good, and they're pretty, but they have way too much icing for my personal taste. You've gotta try their Maple Pecan cookies, they're my favorite! read more

Just finished recovering from my third trip to the SS and it's been a little underwhelming. They have all of these good cupcake ideas, but the execution is often lacking. I've gotten mostly moist and tender cupcakes, but also a few dry and tough ones too. The flavors they use are there, but just barely. Banana cupcakes without any real 'nanas? Peanut butter buttercream that tastes only faintly of peanut butter. Tiramisu cupcakes that completely lack any espresso or rum/Marsala flavor. Like I said, the ideas are creative, but the execution just not consistently there. On a positive note, the brownies are excellent, striking a perfect balance on the fudgy-cakey sliding scale and they have a deeeep chocolate flavor. The cookies were good; they were so rich with butter that they almost fell apart and they tasted great. And this is where I become confused, Sugar Shack. You sell some things that are perfectly done and taste great. Then, other times, I get supposedly flavored cupcakes that are flavorless (except for generic vanilla flavor) and are sometimes dry. So just concentrate on making those cupcakes a little better and I will become a proud SS patron. Also, have you ever thought about filled cupcakes (like maybe "root beer float": root beer CC + vanilla bean pastry cream!) read more

Sugar Shack does have some nice qualities-- they deliver and they have an assortment of cookies that are not your average run-of-the-mill flavors. But when I have a cupcake from a place who is known for their 'gourmet' cupcakes, I expect to be wowed away. I was disappointed with the cupcake I got. The amount of frosting on the cake was overpowering, and the cake itself was not anything special. When I fork over $3.50 for a cupcake, I really don't want it to taste like the cupcakes I make at home-- I want it to be better. read more

Great moist cupcakes and outstanding cookies. Definitely recommend for anybody with a sweet tooth.

Bought 4 at just over $15.00. I have bought from them before and enjoyed them. Not sure what happened or if they were day old but the cake was really dry and tough. The frosting was gritty and way too sweet. I was disappointed on this purchase. read more

Best cupcakes I have ever had! Unique, delicious flavors - always something new. The cupcakes are large and have a lot of frosting, so I suggest sharing! Best fudge frosting. Hands down. read more

Barely OK as the stars above state. of the four cupcakes, the chocolate chocolate iced was the best flavored. Found all the icings grainy and a little over the top in quantity. pecan bourbon was fairly tasteless, did not detect any booze at all, there was something sour in the icing, maybe diced cherries or cranberries. All the cake parts were dense, not light and fluffy. Peanut butter chocolate had a mild PB icing, nothing shouting I am Peanut Butter flavored icing. Caramel mocha again really tasted nothing of either - there was a little something drizzled over the top and one would think - Caramel. No it tasted like cola syrup. $3.50 each Tried the cookies too. again, nothing at all special. Choc. choc. chip was the best of the ones i got the opportunity to try. oatmeal raisin was just the same dough as CC but no CC and really no detectable oats either just raisins. $1 each my suggestion is make your own at home, cheaper and better!. read more

East Lansing is slim in the bakery department but this place has some excellent cupcakes and cookie cakes. The cupcakes are served chilled (yum) and the cookie cake beats Mrs.Field's any day. What makes the cookie cake so good? A hint of what tastes like cinnamon and the fact that it stays moist for days. Also this place delivers! Now I am just waiting for my chance to order a Elvis cupcake! read more

The specialty cupcakes that are day specific are yummy good. Stay away from the every day - chocolate or vanilla - they used to be very fresh and moist like the speciality ones but I have noticed in the last orders that they are dry and appear to have been frozen (actually I now they were frozen because the inside of one of mine was in fact still frozen) and are not really fresh at all. If you like moist yumminess go for the ones that are offered on a limited time rather than the day to day. Hate to say this as a loyal customer - treat I prefer for my office folks - but it is true. From Sugar Shack's Facebook page: Ryan WattsSugar Shack Monday at 6:46pm near Jackson I found it disappointing that no offer was made to make it "right" after we only picked up half of our cupcakes for our wedding reception. Sugar Shack - Sad & mad because her cupcake was disgusting! - Desserts Near Me - Lansing, Michigan

Best part: They deliver. WHAT is better than delivered cupcakes? Nothing. And that's a fact. Great business idea. The cupcakes themselves....not bad. They have EXCELLENT selection and really cool ideas for cupcake flavors and combinations. The icing was really yummy, but there was a lot of it, and the cake didn't quite live up, so fewer stars. But I'm picky about my cupcakes, so for the casual cupcake eater, they're perfectly fine and THEY DELIVER. read more

The cupcakes look amazing and tasty! unfortunanyly looks can be deceiving. I tried lemon cake with lavender frosting, and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. The tower of frosting on them was way to sweet (and that's rare for me to say because I looove sweets. ) So sweet that the taste of the cake was totally masked. The peanut butter frosting was almost inedible! I had to scoop it all off and was left with just the chocolate cake. without the over powering sweet tase of the frosting i was able to just taste the cake......I must say that there is really nothing special about them. The chocolate cake was dense and dry...reminded me of a muffin at the grocery store. I am disappointed, I really thought a $4.50 cupcake was going to be worth it. read more

My daughter and I went into sugar shack to get some cupcakes. My daughter has a severe nut allergy and wanted to try a new cupcake. She clearly asked the employee behind the counter if their "knee buckler" had any nuts. The lady told us no. We got it home and inside this cupcake there was a peanut butter Oreo. We called about it and the manager proceeded to make it sound like it was my daughters fault for not asking the right question. Their whole attitude about this ordeal has completely ruined this place for me. read more

The cupcakes are amazing at Sugar Shack in Frandor, don't get me wrong. But the service I received one night is unforgettable and makes me want to give a 1 star. I placed a delivery order at 10pm and the wait was supposed to be 45 minutes. An hour later we called and the guy told us their system was down and there was nothing he could do. He was so confused and even after us telling him we could bring in our confirmation and pick it up, he still didn't know what to do. He said the owner wasn't there and wasn't answering his phone. Finally, at 1:30am we got our cupcakes. It was really frustrating how we were treated by the employee. I love Sugar Shack but I'll only go into the bakery to get my cupcakes from now on. read more

I'm not impressed AT ALL with their customer service. I'm all about supporting local businesses, especially new establishments-but this place is seriously lacking in treating customers kindly. I definitely will not be ordering from them ever again or suggest the Sugar Shack to my friends. I normally purchase treats for my classes, parties or just to say thanks to someone, but I won't be doing business with Mike (the SS owner) anymore. read more

I will never order from Sugar Shack again. Everything was overpriced and tasted terrible. The cupcakes are bland and dry. The frosting isn't much better. The cookie dough poppers were just dried out rocks. The cookies were similar and nothing special. Worst of all might have been the scoop cake, which was just a gross, stale upside down cupcake with drippy ice cream and candies tacked on top. I imagine the only reason this place stays in business is the fact that they deliver. read more

I would have given this place 4 stars but I gave an extra just to make up for the people that gave scathing reviews of "disgusting" cupcakes or horrible frosting for no reason. I wish I could give yelpers reviews. First off I don't think it is appropriate to put a pic of your child as a prop in a bad yelp review. She said the cupcakes were "disgusting" when I would bet they probably ate every last morsel. And "disgusting"? Really? The only way a cupcake is going to disgust me is if it has a layer of fur on the top or tastes like gasoline. And the picture of the cupcakes all in disarray looks staged - it is of course possible they arrived that way but it just looks a little like they dramatized it a bit. A few people said the frosting had grainy texture and an aftertaste - some people said the service was bad - some people said the cake was dry, some said they were too sweet. Maybe they caught a human service person on a bad day or got a bad batch of cupcakes or something. I bought some cupcakes for someone else then a few for myself to make sure they weren't horrible and they were perfect. The frosting was buttercream - my favorite. Buttercream is naturally quite sweet but it wasn't overly so. I think some people like whipped icing better hence them calling it too sweet. There was no waxy aftertaste as another reviewer said. I tried the peanut butter frosting that another reviewer said had no flavor - I have no clue what they are talking about. It was perfect and yes it tasted like peanut butter. No weird grainy texture. The cake was where I expected to find fault and again - nothing - it was fine. Not dry - hearty and moist but not too moist (lately it seems people make their cakes so moist it is wet and tastes half done - that is not how cake should be. Cake should be something to bite into and not eat with a spoon.) I found the service fine. Some people's expectations of service I find absurd - they expect over the top friendly. I personally cannot stand that - it is fake annoying and invasive. Im an introvert so maybe that is why? When I go into a business all I want is acknowledgement with a "hello", accommodation to my questions and needs, fast service and a thank you at the end. I don't want the bubbly crap the "HEY how is your day going? (umm...not great not that it is any of your business.) I will always call out rude or lackadaisical service and can sense snottiness like a dog picks up on scent but I do not want a business clerk to have to pretend for me. Anyway, no complaints. The shop itself was fine, the service was fine, and the cupcakes were great and cookies were good. read more
