A regular old school delight! They had a line at 5pm, after most of old town closes. This is clearly the spot to be! We are normally traditional vanilla & chocolate people, but we watched almost everyone ahead of us order the strawberry/lemonade twist and couldn't pass it up! The strawberry/lemonade twist was surprisingly good and the Fruity Pebbles tasting blue raspberry hard shell was a nice touch, if a structural nightmare my snack partner's hands were a glorious rainbow mess within 5 minutes of having his cone. Thankfully the nearby river was a great place to wash up. Chocolate flurry was good. They don't skimp on the toppings, but they're also not mixed all the way to the bottom, so the lower 1/3 of my cup was just soft serve. Good flavor! This joint is actually called Arctic Corner. The guy running the show in here seems to know everybody that comes by; I love that small-town feeling. He was teasing one guy about driving a Honda motorcycle ("You need an extension cord to start up your bike over there?") and turned to me to explain the joke. I don't know--hard to describe but it was a nice feeling. Welcoming and homey. Anyway, it's your traditional ice-cream stand like you see all over America. They have cheap treats here; for example, small cones are $1.50. And they have LEMON soft-serve. My mother would go nuts. You never see that anymore. She loves lemon ice cream and lemon-filled doughnuts but can't ever find them anywhere. I got a "Flurrie" (i.e. their Blizzard), and they kindly accommodated my request to have Spanish peanuts and M&Ms together. "Oh, like a peanut M&M one?" Exactly--that's what I used to call them. Only $3.00 for a small (12 oz) which really isn't that small (especially when they pile it above the rim of the cup). Every town needs a place like this. Treasure them! read more

My date and I ended up at this sweet little soft serve ice cream shop in the middle of Old Town around sunset. Ordered up a large banana split and turtle sundae. We sat at one of the three picnic tables available out front while we waited for our orders. Even though there were 2-3 patrons ahead of us, we had our cold treats within 3 minutes. The ice cream was delicious! My sundae was chocked full of pecans and caramel. The perfect sundae. Every time we drive by this place, there are people out front chowing down. My friends took me here few months ago and now I'm regularly coming and enjoying the ice cream. They have multiple different ice cream flavors with various toppings. This place has great soft serve ice cream, but they really need to work on how they serve customers. When it's not busy then there are no issues getting your order. When it's busy there is always an issue because they do not have a system that works. More often than not they will try to take all orders and fulfill those orders out of one window instead of using both windows. PLEASE start taking orders on one side and giving ice cream at the other. The current "system" always results in people getting annoyed and other often cut the line. I will drive all the way from Charlotte to get ice cream instead of the local Dairy Queen because the quality of ice cream is superior to any chain store around. Great little ice cream shop in Old Town. This place is strictly a walk up window. Today was the first warm day and they were busy, but had plenty of staff to keep up with the crowd. There are several picnic tables outside for people to sit at. Cones were cheap at 1.50 for a small and 2.00 for a medium. We ordered 1 small and 1 medium and they were pretty much the same size, so save yourself 50 cents and go w/ the small. I had vanilla but am kicking myself for not going with the lemon. Good products at very reasonable prices. One unique feature that draws me in is the LEMON soft serve ice cream. It's delicious and as far as I know, nobody else in town offers it.
