Oh my sweet, sweet toaste. I love this place so much. I genuinely feel maternal towards it. Hands-down the best coffee in East Lansing, and there's pretty much no other place you're gonna get a specialty coffee for six dollars and trust me, I've been everywhere. I brought my husband here in his birthday because this place is the only place that serves Indonesian food close to Kalamazoo in Michigan. Before heading home, I looked for places that had outdoor seating and allowed dogs. Toaste was #1 on the list even before putting in the filters. And there's a reason why - it's amazing. The owner is charming and even brought out a water bowl for our dog. The inside of the place is very tasteful, but folks, it's all about the food! And to be more specific, the most wonderful milk bread EVER! It was delicate and crisp on our grilled cheese and hami sammi paninis. But then we ordered the ice cream and strawberry dessert. The homey feel of this small restaurant was what really stood out to me. The music was great and not too loud. The decorations were so cute and festive. Abs the staff were so so kind and sweet to me. I was able to get the sea salt tea which had a bit if a tang to it, and the hammy Sammy sandwich which was toasted to perfection!! Great place for a lunch date or to study. The Long of it all: Toaste has perfected the fine art of flavors. I started off my meal with the turkey and pesto sandwich. Every aspect of this sandwich was on point, from the panini pressed house-made bread that was grilled perfectly to a light golden crunch, to the house-made pesto with flavors so gentle and bright that it complimented every other flavor without overpowering any of them. Amazingly, even with a sandwich full of incredible flavor, not once did it's contents fall out, drip, or drizzle all over me or my plate, an experience I have never had with a panini before. It was so pretty and cool to check out the desserts as well as the place. you could see it's a nice social spot as well as treated a little bit as a cafe as some students were studying there. I think the regular toaste was a little bit better than the honey bites but it's totally personal preference and you can't go wrong. I was intrigued by the foam coffee that they had and tried that out too. We told the owner that we've never been before and he was soo nice and went over what is most popular and what the different items were. I ordered a grilled cheese pesto and it was delicious. We also ordered 2 chocolate honey toast bites and 1 strawberry honey toast bites. I was surprised how well the honey toast bites were by the time I got home. The staff had wrapped everything very well, so the toast was still warm and crispy and the ice cream wasn't melted, just soft. The toaste was super yummy and was topped with lots of fresh fruit. However, it could be pretty dry without the ice cream, and I think mine could have used a little bit more than what was given. My friend couldn't eat ice cream so she had hers without, and it was pretty dry in her opinion. It was a very filling dessert for the price.
