Went to Fernando's 8:00am on Saturday May 2nd. First impressions were a typical nice small town diner, simple, tables were clean and wait staff was friendly and moving with due urgency, all fine and good. Had a seat and ordered a simple breakfast of 2 scrambled eggs white toast on white bread and a coffee. Out of curiosity I looked over the menu and saw the ~$20 omelletes that have become the norm these days, ridiculous. My order arrived quickly enough. The scrambeled eggs were the typical dried out flat blob on a plate, this is what passes for scrambeled eggs these days, toast equals wonder bread with fake butter on one side. This combination should be $4 max, nope $7. how 2 pieces of wonderbread and 2 dried out, flattened egg beaters is $7 is a mystery to me, those are omellete prices. Now the kicker, cup of coffee $4, this is a folgers crystal special with the little thimbles of "creamers"... $4?? Restaurant pricing has become absurd, yes food is up 15-20%, restaurant pricing is up 80-90% So Fernando's, what can I say, the staff is doing their job, the place is clean, just stop robbing people. I would never go back for sub standard food at premium price points, all you 5-star fanboys keep emptying your wallet for hospital cafeteria eggs and coffee, its your money. read more

I really like this place for their Chicken Fajita Omelet. I get it with a side of tomato slices and salsa/sour cream. But don't you worry... they have lots of great carbs too. Had lunch here with my wife. I had the open face roast beef sandwich with fries as recommended by the waiter. It was very good with tender braised beef and plenty of gravy. My wife ordered the poutine and reported it was very good. We will be back. read more

I ate at Fernando's Cafe on a Wednesday morning and was surprised to find the place absolutely hopping. This seems to be a hangout for the senior / retiree crowd (or at least it was when I visited!). Ordered the Lumberjack Breakfast, which came with three types of meat, eggs, choice of potatoes (I chose hash browns), and pancakes (which I substituted for Belgian waffles for $2). Everything was tasty, except the waffles which were slightly tough. The waitress was friendly, but service was slow. (In their defense, the place was packed.) A Recent visit after many months away from area. The restaurant was very busy on a wknd. We had a typical, eggs, sausage, toast, and hashbrown potatoes. With coffee. Service was pleasant and very efficient. This place brings an insulated pitcher of coffee. For abt 4 cup refills. There were abt 4 servers. All appeared very efficient. The restrooms were clean, at this late in the morning time. Lots of free prkng. Very modest pricing. Highly recommend Fernando's Café. Update March '24. Late morning wknd visit. Place was totally full at 1pm. Were able to get a table rite away. Order taken, food served very timely, food prepared as requested. Excellent service. Restrooms in good shape during a busy period. The service is good but however the food was not appealing or tasty. On another note the poutine was criminal and should not be called poutine on their menu. The gravy was gloopy and the cheese curds were fried. I also ordered a side of turkey sausage the patty came out pale and scabby. read more

This is a seat yourself established, which I'm already not a fan of. Took a while for someone to prepare and clean our table. We arrived around 12:15 and didn't get our food until almost exactly an hour later. Everyone in my party was disappointed with the food. The portion sizes, the quality, and the temperature were all lacking. My hashbrowns were a bit greasy, but luckily not terrible. My breakfast platter came out a bit later than my friend's food, which normally isn't a problem, except my friend finished her food before I got mine, so that was awkward. Overall, an interesting experience and one I will never forget, but I won't be back. On the plus side, the food is pretty affordable. read more

Over the last 2 months the service has become very lax so be sure you have lots of time to wait for your service. The quality of the food depends on the day however you used to be able to count on the food to be consistently good. Prices are reasonable. Went for a hearty breakfast and it's just what I got. I ordered chicken fried steak with tators and eggs. Here's the unique thing about this place. Included in the meal was choice of hot cakes or toast. I asked if they had rye. They did. FOUR DIFFERENT KINDS!!!. Who does that? Fernando's!!. If I really really really want rye , I'll know where to go. If I'm in the area and hungry I'll pop in again. Just not destination worthy in my book. It hit the spot and that's that. Stopped in here on Easter Sunday, and it was near 1pm. At first we thought that they were closed, but once we came in, all was good. We ordered, joked with the folks who were there and had our meal. Yes, they have corned beef hash. Yes, you can get pancakes instead of toast, they have rye toast, and cheesy grits. Scrambled eggs are freshly cracked (not the mix you get at chain restaurants) and the pancakes have a little malt in them. Very nice. The workers are like family--very friendly. Don't be fooled by the modest signage, this spot is worth checking out if you love a traditional breakfast! We weren't entirely sure we were at the right spot when we arrived as the sign just reads 'Cafe' in big red letters, but were reassured by the small white letters on the front door that read 'Fernando's Cafe'. When we walked in, we saw a chalk board to our right that highlighted the daily specials and informed us to seat ourselves, so we did. We were quickly greeted by a pleasant gentleman who took our drink order and provided us with menus. The menu features traditional breakfast options of eggs, protein and potatoes either made to order, as an omelette or as a skillet. They also a few other staples like pancakes, French toast, and biscuits and gravy, and I really liked that they had three different types of potatoes to choose from. I ordered the lumberjack breakfast and my boyfriend tried the chicken fajita skillet. We also got a side of corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy to share. My bacon was medium cut and cooked a little crispy, which is just how I like it. My eggs were cooked perfectly over easy, and I received a hefty portion of potatoes. The pancakes that came with my order were also huge. My boyfriend enjoyed his skillet and said it had just the right amount of cheese. We thought the biscuits and gravy were good but were a little disappointed with the corned beef. We were hoping they would be made from scratch. After many trips to Blondies (across the parking lot) with wait times and slow service, I decided to check out this Cafe. I'll be back. The choices are many & the food was delivered quickly. I had the corned beef hash & eggs w/ sourdough toast & hot tea. The food was good and deserves 5 stars for an outstanding diner breakfast. The problems: Hot water delivered by no tea bag, food delivered before the toast was ready, and the waiter displayed all the charm of a bull in a china shop ... maybe that's why it's called Fernando's. read more

The is a small cafe, they keep it very clean and the food is pretty good. Do NOT go here if you are looking for a quick in and out, does not matter number of tables or time of day they tend to be very slow. Breakfast no matter 2 of us in party or 5 takes at least and hour. They have a couple of waitresses that I love seeing are working when I go in and they have a couple of male workers where if you aren't on a first name basis with them don't bother. They spend all of their time leaning and talking to the customers they know. Don't expect to get anything else you might need or a refill. read more

Fernando's has to live in the extra large shadow of it's neighboring restaurant "Blondie's Barn", which holds the title for best breakfast in Haslett...however don't count out the underdog. While Blondies has very creative omelets, etc. Fernando's sticks to what it does best...traditional American breakfast. Can you get an asparagus & feta omelet. I am gonna go with No. Can you get a huge breakfast with all your traditional favs at a cheap price. Definitely. So, in essence, Fernando's is like the Ed McMahon to Blondie's Johnny Carson. This is the best breakfast experience I have had in over a year. My omelette was perfectly prepared---no over cooked eggs or grease covered potatoes. The bacon was also cooked perfectly and had a nice maple flavor. They brewed ice tea especially for my fussy fellow diner and met all of his quirky requests promptly. Quiet neighborhood diner with the "friendly hometown folks" feel. It feels natural to say "hi" to the other patrons even if you don't know them. The grilled and fried food is very well prepared and never greasy... I especially like the deep fried, lightly crispy American fries. They're like extra thick and hot potato chips. I've been eating at Fernando's Cafe for four years and look forward to my next meal there. One of the outstanding things about Fernando's is that the food is consistently good. No one is perfect meaning on rare occasions the quality takes a dip. I have yet to eat anywhere as much as I do Fernando's and not run in to a sub par meal.
