I was in search of a good donut so as usual, I turned to Yelp! for assistance. I was a bit apprehensive because of the travel time (about 25 minutes one-way), but at the same time I was very intrigued by the pics posted on Yelp! as well as on their website. Small shop with a decent selection. Two of the most notables in my selection: gingerbread (yes, you read it correctly); and red velvet donuts. I have never had a gingerbread donut before and I love gingerbread, so why not? OMGoodness, that was one of the best tasting donuts I have ever had!!! Best donuts around! Wonderful owners, extremely friendly, polite and knowledgeable. We go there whenever we're in town early enough to get the donuts -- they sell out fast! Today we arrived around 10am and they still had a pretty good selection. We picked up an Apple-Cherry Fritter, an expresso-chocolate donut, 2 nutters, and my all-time favorite the sour cream. I have an extreme allergy to artificial sweeteners and they're always patient about letting me know whats in each donut. The atmosphere in the seating area is relaxing and "groovy". read more

Super cute local donut shop in Williamston! They offer up all kinds of donuts from old fashioned, to cake to yeast and all flavors! We ordered a strawberry one with frosting/sprinkles, a long john filled with cream (not custard), a traditional yeast with frosting and a coffee and chocolate glazed. These donuts were fresh and delicious. Super soft and flavorful and not overly heavy. They were also CHEAP! We got all 4 donuts for $5! Can't beat that! read more

Waking up to a snowy Michigan morning and needing to drive out to Grand Rapids meant Starbucks and something tasty to eat. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we found Groovy Donuts along the way and not too far off the freeway! We tried a sour cream donut dipped in vanilla bean icing, a long john custard with chocolate icing, and a blueberry fritter. O M G. We ate the long john and fritter first on our drive out- I actually forgot about the sour cream donut until the next day. Riding in the backseat as our friend was with us and up front, I spotted the bag and it saved me from being a hangry beast. Still tasted delicious the next day! Stopping in was easy as there is a private parking lot and it's right off the main drag in Williamston. The gentleman working the counter was very friendly and patient as we drooled over all of the options. There are all kinds of choices and even gluten free donuts to choose from! Once someone walked in behind us we were much more motivated to make our choices and get out. The next time we make the drive, I am sure we will stop in for a treat! read more

I've been into Groovy Donuts a handful of times now since it first opened, and I am so thrilled that Williamston finally has a place like this!! The donuts are excellent, fresh and come in a wide range of flavors and styles. The cake donuts are some of the best I've ever had. We tried a maple bacon fritter last weekend which we popped into the oven when we got home-- it was soft in the middle, crispy on the outside, the bacon was fresh and crispy, and the maple was not too sweet or overwhelming. With regards to the review below that says the cinnamon bun centers are still doughy, I say that if you don't like a gooey center in your cinnamon bun, you should just stick to Pillsbury! I haven't tried anything that wasn't excellent. The coffee is also good... try the Cafe con Leche if you have a few minutes to spare while they brew it. Service is very friendly in this family-owned shop, and I hope they're around for years to come! I tend to occasionally think of myself as a donut connoisseur, that being said, I am incredibly pleased with the donuts from Groovy Donuts. I like to look for the three "T's" when looking at how to rate a donut. Taste, Texture and Timing. "Taste", these are some of the best tasting donuts you are going to find, and the sheer amount of variety will give everyone at least 1 or 2 favorites. "Texture", come on we have all had that donut from somewhere that looks like a great donut but when you sink your teeth into what is meant to be God's greatest creation, the texture ruins the whole experience. THIS IS NOT the case with Groovy Donuts, texture is perfect! Not to fluffy and flaky, not to hard and crunchy, just a good solid soft yet firm texture. "Timing", how long is a good donut good? I have had pretty good donuts that if you eat 2-3 hours after being made fresh are complete garbage by that point. Well I am on some donuts that are over 24 hours old and they are still fresh! All in all I cant recommend this place enough, if you are looking for a delicious, fresh tasting this is the only place you need to go! read more

Wow! Amazing doughnuts. I always see this sign when driving up to Lansing and decided to stop in. We got the honeymoon doughnut and the donation doughnut of the month (coffee and chocolate). They were light and fluffy, didn't leave you feeling overly full or having eaten too much sugar. The woman who helped us answered all of our questions in such a chipper manner! 10/10 recommend, definitely worth veering off the interstate. read more

Have gone to this establishment since they opened. The quality and taste of their product is good. The shortcomings of this establishment is the creativity when applied to flavors. Less decorating, more focus on flavors. They have all the standards that you can find elsewhere but only a few standouts. Their espresso donuts great. They have a Guinness donut that is amazing and should be a daily stock donut or minimally a monthly special. Have been to donut shops in different parts of the country and believe that Groovy donut could definitely emulate some of those with their capabilities. Would like to see them explore more new and unusual flavors. There's always a place for the old standards but specialty flavors will bring people back repeatedly to try new donuts. I'm not a huge donut lover, but I bought two glazed donuts here on Sunday morning, kind of late -- many were sold out. But these were very good. I'll try the cake donuts next week. It's nice to see a bakery that opens early during the week (6 a.m. Tues through Friday) -- like the "old days." So many don't. If only they opened that early on weekends, but I'll take the small gift! I will likely stop in occasionally early on my way to work when the staff needs a pick-me-up. read more
