I found this place on Yelp, somewhere close to where I wanted to go exploring. I got the cinnamon biscuit, blueberry biscuit, and the honey butter biscuit because I wanted to try all three, they were all good. I also got the gardener's grits with added cheese, and a side of scrambled eggs, I didn't get the added cheese I ordered but I didn't bring it to the waiter's attention, I just ate my food. The gardener's grits came with all the good veggies; onions, bell peppers, garlic sautéed spinach, chickpeas, and tomato gravy over red corn ground grits. The tomato gravy came on the side so you could pour how much you wanted. All of it went so good with my scrambled eggs, and the flavor of the veggies were so good, grits hot and cooked well. I really enjoyed my meal, and the rest of the group did as well. Three of us got green tea to drink and one got coffee. The coffee came with creamers and different sugars; the tea came with honey and lemon and of course you could choose to have sugar. The tea was hot but just would get cold fast, the waiter did bring out more hot water, but we wanted it hotter, but they didn't have a microwave to do that. We understand that it may be a safety issue but still wish we could have had it hotter. The actual place was nice and clean and all staff were great with service; we left a really nice tip. After our first pick was unexpectedly closed, we found this on Yelp and really happy we did. For starters we had the kindest server. He let us know he was the only one right then and while slammed, could not have been nicer. I ordered the Gardner's grits which were just awesome. I've never had a deep fried, battered chickpea but I hope that isn't the last time. The tomato sauce was also a star of the dish. The hubs got a spinach and egg omelet which he thoroughly enjoyed. Our friends both got biscuits with eggs and the most incredible strawberry jam I've ever had. The manager also came by our table and she too was just so welcoming. Well worth the wait! We had to wait about 45 minutes when we were originally told it was a 20-25 minute wait. The food was very fresh! Nothing came to us cold outside server was McKenna, she was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I had the Sweet ShirleyGrit Girl Grits Bowl and my son had a huge stack of Pancakes! I also VERY highly recommend the Ole Grit Fritters with the extra hot pepper Jelly. You won't be disappointed. The young lady that seated us on 01/21/23 was full of attitude and obvious contempt for customers. I had the six shooter grit bowl. It was delicious, and exactly as described. My wife had the shrimp and sausage grit bowl. The shrimp were supposed to be blackened, and they weren't. The shrimp were slso very over cooked. Good flavors though. I absolutely loved my time and meal at sugar grits. Prices very reasonable. I had the rise and shine and I never had cheese in my grits but my goodness it was delicious. We ordered the shrimp, breakfast plate two eggs biscuit bacon a sausage grits. We also ordered a cinnamon roll stack. First The waitress brought the Simmons throw stack out first even though we explicitly told her to bring it out at the end of our breakfast. I was pretty disappointed with this place. Grits are some of my favorite food so I chose to order the Shrimp & Grits. They were average tasting The restaurant was very dead, but there was no wait! Although there were only two other tables occupied in the entire restaurant, my waitress only checked on my table-of-two one time. She also added the tip into the check, which is custom for larger parities, but there were only two of us. She did not mention this at all, and they are NOT supposed to do this! I regret it was disappointing. Service and food can't both be bad. You have to kill it on at least one for me to return.

Waited 1:30 minutes for cold coffee and bland food. Grits shouldn't be in the title unless the grits are actually good, not gummy and tasteless. A group came in and there food hit the table before they got seated. We waited over 20 mins to get our ticket, but the server and manager was to busy catering to the group that just sat down. We left well over the amount of money owed and just left. Certainly will not be back. read more

The grits were pretty good but that is the only positive about this place. It was warm and stuffy inside so seems like they don't want to keep it comfortable for diners. I personally don't want like sweating while I am eating, tends to kill the appetite. Oh and the service is terrible!! Server reeked of weed and was rude. Also 20% onto the bill automatically? As this was my first trip to the Deep South, I wanted to try food that was local to the area. I stopped at Sugar Grits for lunch and saw chicken and waffles on the menu. I had never seen that combination offered before. My order came, and it clearly exceeded my expectations. The waffle was done perfectly. That was not such a surprise, since you can get perfectly done waffles almost anywhere. However, the waffle was topped with chicken which, as I found was customary in the South, was fried perfectly. There was no oily excess in the food itself, and there was no problem digesting the food. The combination was delightful. I commend the food to you. read more

After a short wait, we enjoyed some coffee and a pineapple mimosa. Iced tea was decent as well. The grit fritters are discontinued, so I ordered the gardener's grits. The fried chickpeas were delicious and the veggies were fantastic. The tomato gravy was like a vodka pasta sauce and was great. Hubby got the Red Rooster and said it was great! I tried some of his biscuit and it was buttery and salty and the white gravy was very creamy. Our server was attentive and the atmosphere was nice. Stumbled upon this place by accident while visiting Memphis and since I love grits had to check it out. We arrived at lunch time and there were so many things on the menu we had a hard time deciding what we wanted. We started with the fried pickled okra which was so yummy! The buttermilk sauce on it was outstanding, we were dipping our fries in it. My friend, who is basically a biscuit connoisseur, ordered a biscuit and declared it was one of the best he's ever had. He also loved the chick-a-doodle-doo sandwich. I ordered the gardners grits, a vegetarian grit dish that was incredible. It was so good the first time, I stopped in again. Both visits I ordered something from the biscuit sandwich category. I think it's a fork and knife meal myself. The eggs were cooked the way I ordered. The off the bone ham was a little salty, alas that is part of what makes pork become ham. So that is not a "fault ".
