I don't remember the name the had for it. But it was flavorful and delicious. My husband had the pancakes and a side of chicken sausage. Sugar grits in right off Beale in downtown Memphis. I chose this place as it was close to my hotel. Upon entering I was impressed with their lighting and overall ambiance of the restaurant. The food menu is what you would expect and they offer a lot of grits plates served with fish and other proteins. The food was tasty! Their biscuits are huge! Our experience started with them trying to seat us in the very back, when we refused and asked to be seated in a more lighted area nearer to the front the manager had significant attitude and we should have left at that time. We ordered some basic breakfast items for me and a build your own omelette for my husband. Nothing came out as ordered and the omelette was burnt, dry and loaded full of onions (which were not ordered). I never leave reviews, but I really don't want others to experience what we did. We stopped in for breakfast at this place on a weekday. Our waitress was friendly, and the.cheese grits were delicious, but those are the only positives. It took a while to get our coffee and waters and getting refills took even longer. We ordered 2 meals, one of which came out about 30 minutes prior the other meal. We were initially told it would be out just a few minutes after the first meal was delivered. About 10-15 minutes later, we were told the oven was cold/working slowly but that the biscuits were baking and should be ready soon. Shortly after that, we were asked if we wanted to get something else instead, and I really wish we had just canceled the order at that point. We decided to wait until the food was ready because we assumed anything else would take as long or longer. When the food was finally delivered, the breakfast sausage and bacon were cold. I've worked in the service industry and get that stuff happens, but this was just over the top. No manager came to the table to apologize for the issue/service. A small discount or comp on the affected meal should have been offered, but it was not. A 20% gratuity was automatically added for a party of 2. I typically tip at least that anyway, but in this situation, I should have been able to tip a little less if I wanted. read more

This was the worst service that has ever happened in Memphis. We are from out of town and have visited twice. We have always been greeted with just joy and excitement from every local in town. Except here. There was a woman up front who didn't want to walk us back to our seats because it was too much walking so she passed us to a man who was supposed to be our server. We couldn't Understand him at all when he spoke. One whole sentence he tried to speak was turned into one word that we couldn't understand. So we just sat there. And sat. And sat. He never came back. We walked over to the bar area to see if I could get a wash cloth to clean the sticky table and bench we were on. That guy helped us and came over to clean it and apologized that our server never came. On his way over, I spotted a cockroach so he ran over and smashed it with his shoe. We should have left when that happened but we didn't. This guy also took our drink order which was two orange juices. He didn't deliver them though. He passed it to some other woman who looked like she was supposed to be some kind of manager or a person who was training walking around because she wasn't doing anything except attempting to fix things that went wrong. She delivered our orange juice and walked away instead of asking if we were ready to order or anything at all. That's when I decided if we see our "server" again, we would flag him down but instead, we found him seating someone else and taking their order. That's when we left. We let the bar tender know who helped with the orange juice which we didn't even touch. We also told the original woman who didn't want to walk us all the way to the back of the restaurant and she apologized as we walked out. We are now sitting at Automatic Slims for brunch and it's been amazing so far!! No cockroaches which is a plus. read more

Wound up here by accident but grateful for the change of plans. Several reviews mention the wait time and it may have been a little longer than one might like but the food was great, as was the service. We were hungry and over ordered. The biscuit board was a treat! The biscuits were delicious and seemed truly scratch made. Husband had the cinnamon roll stack AND French toast. It was a lot of food! He loved the cinnamon rolls and said French toast was good but rolls were better. We did leave with leftovers. I saw lots of grits being ordered and will try those next time. Worth a try. Be patient. The food and atmosphere are great here, but we arrived when they opened at 8am and were told that the kitchen wouldn't start cooking for 15 minutes. So we were ok with that...but it wasn't until 8:35 when they finally took our order. The fish was good but could have stood to be a little more seasoned (personal preference). The fries were good, but I didn't really eat them because I like ranch dressing with my fries. The ranch was very thin and watery and was not tasty. I asked the server why it was this way and he said it was a house dressing. We were recommended this restaurant by a hotel.... We were greeted with great service but that was only it. As the hostess & also our server brung us back of the restaurant to sit. There was no bar to get drinks, it was like it was for storage. We waited an hour to get our food, while waiting we witnessed the line cooks cussing out the manager. We began to be aware of how understaffed the restaurant was. It was not crowded at all. They decided to put a party of 20 in the back with us so it was hard for our server to be attentive since he's hosting, serving , bussing & setup a party. The food finally came ; very disappointed. They ran out of butter knife's so we had to use steak knives, no French vanilla, empty pepper shaker. When you ask for scrambled eggs you only get one. The food at this place is good, that is...if you get your order. I went there for breakfast on 3/13 and the service was horrible - both the waitress and the kitchen. The place wasn't busy but I waited an hour for my breakfast - eggs, bacon, grits, and biscuits. When it arrived (after I had to ask where my order was at the 45 minute mark of my visit) it came piecemeal - grits first, then after 5 minutes came the bacon, then another wait for the eggs and then the biscuits. So everything got cold as I waited. And don't even expect to see your waitress after your order - nor should you expect any coffee refill. My advice - go somewhere else. read more

The one star is for the young man that was waiting on us. Throughout our whole experience there he smiled and joked with us because the food was horrible. I will say on of the biscuit on the 3 flight biscuits appetizer was good had it been hot it probably would've been better. I had the build your own omelette, cheese, spinach, and tomato. The boiled spinach(smh) was wringing wet, eggs were brown, and the cheese was on the outside for some odd reason probably because the spinach was wet, no seasoning, no taste. Came in in labor day, so pretty busy. There were only 2 people working the front of house, 1 person serving the entire floor by herself and 1 person hosting and bartending it seems. Waited to be sat for about 20-30 min, which was fine. When we were sat we waited another 20ish minutes and got no service. So why were we sat? I would rather have waited to be sat if the server couldn't get to us yet. Management clearly has staffing issues and I was mad for the girls working that they had to deal with the labor day business with no support. Food looked good but never got a chance to order before leaving, we didn't want to wait that long. My issues with this experience were with management - to staff a holiday with only 2 FOH workers is not only torture for your staff but also disappoints customers.
