She is one of those great creative people who just "get it" - no need to explain what you want in detail - a few words and she has the perfect suggestion. We ordered a couple of sheet cakes and love the attention to scratch ingredients. What did we get? Dense chocolate cake with ganache and a caramel brush. Wow. Work near this pink, funky, tooth-ache causing bakery and have found pleasure in just browsing the glass cases, and talking sweets with the staff and the bakers. Seriously, atleast 4 days a week I buy something here... By far, lemon anything is delicious. Lemon cookie, with sugar crystals, crunchy circumference and soft core, with just the right zest! Always a plus. Lemon tart. yum. Molasses cookie. yum. Lemon bars..the shortbread crust is perfect. I have pre-ordered a dozen before! The cupcakes not so crazy about. A little dry for me, but it always looks amazing. The choco chip cookie tastes healthy...you know..that earthy, whole wheat taste that I never look for in a cookie. The bakery is amazing! all the desserts and sandwiches are fresh and tasty! Lemon tarts, chocolate croissants, and all the cookies have been soooooo fresh and delectable. They switched owners and the changes to the bakery have been amazing! i'm so glad they offer such a wide variety of options. Incredible place. Their cinnamon brioche is delicious and their cookies are good. Would recommend the ginger molasses cookie, would not recommend the peanut butter cookie. We stopped here before a doctors appt. My mom had a vanilla latte and I had a regular. Very strong but still tasty coffee. My daughters cinnamon bun was a tad dry but we loved the decor and friendliness of the staff. The bathroom was covered in old recipe pages from a cookbook. So clever. My wife and I visit Seattle every couple of months so when we visit, we look for new places to try when we walk through the city. The Sugar Bakery did not disappoint! The store itself is very cute and pleasant. It was hard to pick what we wanted from all of the choices they offered, but we wound up with a lemon crunch cookie and a brownie. My wife also got a mocha made with almond milk. The man behind the counter even threw in a free gf marshmallow! All I can say is that it was worth the trip down the street from our hotel. read more

An update and upgrade for sugar bakery. Nearly a year later and I have been able to sample many a treat from Sugar bakery. Their cheesecake bites? Rich, decadent, and a total steal for the paltry $1.25 price tag. Their cupcakes? Surprisingly massive, moist, with the perfect cake to frosting ratio. Oh, and that frosting? Not too sweet, not an affront to the tastebuds being simply whipped butter, and for some reason extra delicious if you stick the cupcake in the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill it a bit. Their salted caramel and red velvet have been some of my favorite mini-cake offerings that I have tried. Speaking of cakes...their King Cake? Oh my goodness. Mardi Gras has become somewhat of a special event for me, and this year I wanted to commemorate it with an honest-to-god king cake. No colorfully frosted cinnamon rolls for me this year, a real, delicious, king cake -- complete with sugar sprinkles and plastic baby. I was very excited Sugar offered up these treats, pre-ordered and waited in anticipation. Come Mardi Gras my sister and I picked up the cake, squealed in delight with the beads added for good measure, and proceeded to share the cake with our boyfriends who had never had this cake before. Can I say it was perfect? My sister and I grew up with these, and it was just like we remembered. The texture was right -- a cross between cake and bread-dough. The cinnamon-sugar-pecan medley was pure candy and spread delightfully through out. The frosting was light, sweet, and absolutely covered in green, yellow and purple sugar sprinkles. Chris cut himself two extra pieces, and I happily noshed on leftovers for breakfast the next morning. Sugar bakery is great -- for a cup of coffee with a cookie or complex cake orders for a special occasion. I'm so happy they are so close, and will only weep a tear or two for the effect they have on my waistline. read more

Really friendly service, excellent peanut butter cookie (which says a lot because I am a peanut butter cookie expert..ooooh yeah), but the brownie was kind of mediocre. It looked so good staring at me with the crusty sides and glistening chocolate top and nuts sitting daintily atop it's pretty head...but it betrayed me with it's blandness...I'll be back though, it could've just been an off day, and they had sooo many other delectables that I HAVE to take one for the team. hey, these guys are fucking fun. i go in and the brightest-eyed girl you've ever seen behind a bakery counter greets me. i immediately want to make out with her face. but i restrain myself and decide to nom on something a little less sweet-looking-- the almond croissant looks pretty tasty, as do the brioches, but i choose the croissant anyway, because that's what i always get when going into a bakery for the first time. it was pretty good. the outside needed less crisp and more flaky to meet my tastes, but the inside met my standards for the most part. a nice layer of almond paste was found, not too thin/thick, and the guts of the pastry was nice and soft. it was also deceivingly satisfying. while i stared at it, i thought it dainty and kind of a fucking pipsqueak, but along with the medium [what? you shits can call it "tall" or whatever the fuck you want in your own review] drip i got, it got the jorb done. the coffee, on the other hand was a bit burnt to my tastebuds. overall, though, a very satisfying experience and i'll go back for brioche next breakfast. if just to see miss brighteyes. read more

I've been to Sugar a few times. I've always liked their lattes, but the first couple pastries I tried were a bit disappointing. I'm glad I gave the pain au chocolate a chance because it really is one of the best I've ever had this side of the Atlantic... maybe on both sides. It was perfectly light and crispy on the outside and filled with just the right amount of chocolate, which was slightly darker than I had expected. I just really love Sugar. The name, the shop, the diverse art on display, the people inside and most of all... their pastries and food! My office is dangerously located right across the street, so it's safe to assume I've frequented this quaint pink-striped shop full of baked love a time or two.. this week. (Thanks for being so yummy, I've got a bridesmaids dress to look good in soon). I'm sure most people go for the sweet goodies, but let me tell you something. A must-have for lunch is their new foccacia bread sandwiches. I had the tomato-basil-mozzerella today and almost died. Delicious. Order it grilled and the sandwich literally melts in your mouth, but is amazingly fresh at the same time. I've ordered their mochas and italian sodas. They're good, but I'm a Starbucks addict. Their cookies and pastries are consistently good and they always have a good selection. Perfect for that random afternoon sweet tooth that wont be satisfied by pre-packaged blah.
