Pom mask tag
Elizabeth N.

I ordered a variety face masks for my family to wear during the Covid 19 pandemic from Sue Patrick and was pleased with the speedy shipping and delivery of my purchase. I was disappointed when I opened the burnt orange Pom masks that were supposed to be for my two children attending UT. The masks felt very light weight so I wondered if they would do much to protect my children and those around them at school. I looked on the manufacturer's tag and it says "This product is NOT meant to filter air, but rather to restrict hand to face contact" it also says that it is UPF 50+. The front of the tag says "adorable way to protect your face". I decided to return the masks because they will not serve my intended purpose. After I packed them up, I decided it would be the responsible thing to do to alert Sue Patrick that these masks are of no real use during a pandemic, so I emailed Jay. I asked him to please consider adding into the description on their website that the masks do not filter air and are only to prevent hand to face contact. He replied and said he would send me a shipping label. I wrote to him again and asked for him to please edit the description on their site. He said the masks follow CDC guidelines. I told him this is misleading because they don't protect anyone from anything. I decided to write a review of the masks so I could warn customers that these masks don't filter air. I also left a comment on their Instagram post of these masks warning the public that these do not protect people. They took the entire post down, not just my comment. They also refuse to let my product review be published. After my reviews a woman named Jill Scott emailed me and told me that the description on their website was straight from the manufacturer and I should take up my complaint with them. I let her know I don't have a problem with the manufacturer since their tag is what told me the truth about the product. It's Sue Patrick I have a problem with because they won't edit the description of the masks, want to be argumentative with me, shift blame to the manufacturer, and take down my reviews and comment on the product. They could have used all that time to just edit their description on the site! They just lost a customer. Too bad because I have two UT students and we probably would have bought lots and lots of UT merchandise from this store.

Sue Patrick is an interesting store. It's a family-owned operation, but it's also a department store. Strange. On one hand, I give this Burnet Road store props for beating the odds and holding tight to a successful independent business for over 30 years (since 1975). On the other hand...well....I'm not sure how they did it! Sue's stock is pretty typical - men's and women's apparel, a small amount of home decor, a jewelry counter, and a massive collection of "officially licensed" UT Longhorn paraphernalia. Think men's dress shirts, women's casual and professional wear, and every possible piece of burnt orange merchandise you could possibly dream up. It's a bit overwhelming, actually. I enjoy perusing the store on the off chance that I'll find something unique and memorable, but the truth is, the only reason to shop at Sue Patrick is to support your local business. And maybe because the atmosphere is hometown homey. The prices are fair, but no basement bargains here. Oh yeah....they also have one-of-a-kind Austin sno-globes that I haven't seen anywhere else. Very cool. Easy to find on Burnet Road with a big sign...you can't miss it. Sue Patrick is maybe worth a visit. Definitely worth it for Longhorn fans.

However, this time was a lot different and I was able to find the perfect gifts for my friend's birthday as well as fun items for myself. It seems like the selection has remained the same although Atown is keeping up with current and modern trends. For example, there were a lot of ICE based items tucked away as well as current celebrity crushes who are on everybody's minds. The coolest thing I found was a James Talarico candle but other than that, a lot of the items that were for sale were pretty kitschy and I believe they are the same wholesale items I have seen before. I must shoutout the incredibly helpful service from Audrey who went above and beyond to help me find items for my friend's birthday. She was super sweet, and I would've been wandering around the store aimlessly if it wasn't for her direction. Additionally, she even came up with combination gift ideas which was pretty sick. Atown is lucky to have her! I think my PTSD is no longer because of her assistance. Great store, unfortunately high prices. However, no one does it like Atown!

There are 3 or 4 separate areas you can visit and they have things from locally made earrings and art to coasters, desk plates, rubber ducks of famous people, religious candles with random famous people, funny socks, clothes, and so much more. The staff is friendly and outgoing, they even had a woman at the door greeting you and offering you a hand basket if you wanted or needed one. There were 3 or 4 cashiers and at least one lady walking around greeting you and seeing if they could help. It is pricier then your chain store but the products are cooler, unique, and many times locally made. Things you can't get at other stores or amazon. Like so many places, it's one downside is parking. It is a small lot, if you part in front you basically have to back in to spot blocking traffic or back out into traffic. There is a small side lot that is better but you basically have to 3 point turn out of that spot. Always willing to pay a bit more to support local. We don't get out of our area/comfort zone much but we do love this place. #Supportlocal

I usually try not to write bad reviews, but this was very concerning to me…read more Today, when I went to visit this location and attend a event there I asked to use the bathroom adjacent to the hockey ring. There were two security guards, a short one and a tall one. The short one was friendly and opened the door. Apparently they have locks on the bathroom doors now. The the second taller security guard named Joe, who I believe is autistic, FOLLOWED ME INTO THE BATHROOM. Without me realizing it, he was WATCHING ME PEE from behind waiting for me to finish. I thought he needed to use the urinal so I stepped aside as I was done. I went to wash my hands, HE THEN FLUSHED THE TOLIET for me as if I'm a five-year-old, not knowing what to do. I thought it was a joke. I think he was trying to keep the place very clean. Needless to say this is where it started to get creepy. As I was drying my hands, I joked with him about the heavy security, and what was he doing following me into the bathroom? He then in a stone cold almost robotic tone, asked me to leave the property that I was now trespassing. Now I came to this location for an event around the corner at that same location. There's multiple businesses here. There were no signs for my event. That's why I asked for directions and then I needed to use the bathroom. There is nothing outside the realm of weird in me doing any of this. I drive a nice vehicle, and I was properly dressed for the event. At that point, he began following me to the parking lot. I asked him "what are you doing, I am going to my event" he said you need to leave, I laughed, and I said yes trust me I am leaving. And he was also filming me with his phone. (who is this guy and who hired him?) and said he was calling the police on me. At this point, we had crossed into the world of weirdness and I asked him I need to see your superior. I mentioned this to the other security guard working who pretended to be his superior. He didn't think it was very big deal or outside the realm of strange. I'm a grown adult and this was bizarre. I'm not some homeless person. I was dressed nicely, and these two people were acting like I was some homeless person camping out in the bathroom I don't know who runs that place but both of the security guards need to be fired immediately. I felt very shaken up afterwards I have never been treated like that. There's no excuse. I can only imagine what travesty of justice actually happens here I wasn't shaken up because I done something wrong. I was shaken up because this 6' 5" autistic person has some role of authority, and he should not be working at this job whatsoever. He had no emotion when he spoke with me. I'm not kidding when I say he was like a robot. It was creepy. I was more worried for the women and children that attend the hockey ring next-door, and may have a similar experience with this nut job who again followed me into the bathroom and watched me pee and proceeded to tell me I was now trespassing after I was done. I've seen this before people buy a piece of property and then they have some management company who doesn't know what they're doing oversee and manage it. The actual owner of the businesses and property have no idea what really happens here If that's how this business operates, you need to sell your business it's not appropriate. This is Austin, Texas not California. We don't treat people like that here. I have nothing against autistic people, but in this case and point this gentleman should not have any authority. He should be bagging groceries and maybe not even working with the public.

I keep seeing 3 star reviews because this location is "hit or miss" which is confusing to me…read morebecause that's how Marshalls is supposed to work I thought? Anyway, yes, sometimes it's fire and other times there's hardly anything good. Besides that it's consistently pretty clean and organized and the staff is friendly enough. There's usually someone nearby to help if you need it. The times I've been the lines don't typically get too long, and when they do the staff is quick to open up new registers and move everyone along. I'm a big fan of the home goods section, there's usually something there that will catch my eye. Though I don't always take it home with me. That and the beauty section are where I spend most of my time. It's a Marshalls so the prices are reasonable. Good spot if you have time to browse and don't have anything particular in mind to get.

I'm talking a fully smashed shelf on a bookshelf...that item is unusable, -$7 is unreasonable. Nevertheless, I go at least once each month to scavenge through the aisles, and 5/10 times I find something good! I went the other day and found some awesome puppy toys and other goodies for pets.
