Well, I came to Yelp and Frankie V's popped up. Crazy thing, we do our grocery shopping across the street from Frankie V's! So we had passed it many times. We were warmly greeted by the bartender Natalie. She was awesome! It was full at the bar, Sunday Night Football so totally understandable. We sat in the booth. The booth was comfy and cozy. It's a cool spot, total "Cheers" vibe. We had our mind on fish sandwiches but the unassuming owner, Martina came by and greeted us. Then she gave us the rundown on what was the best items. EVERYTHING here is homemade, made from scratch! Loved that! She sold us on the special, 8pc chicken (the whole chicken), fries and an XL 1-topping pizza for $39.00. Well we got it and boy that was THEE BEST fried chicken I have had in YEARS. I mean YEARS! Literally fresh and dripping hot juices everywhere! It was seasoned to perfection! So good! The pizza was INCREDIBLE! It was a great crust and the flavor was amazing! The fries were good! Home cut, I could tell! We delighted in our meal! We look forward to returning soon and trying the fish!

The poor manager had to call someone to translate because the employees can't or won't communicate with the manager in English when the manager is trying to figure out what happened. When the fifth employee finally noticed I was there, I was asked to place my order using the screen. I did. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. Then a drive through customer came in because her order was made wrong. The guy making the food (Juan Angel?) said in Spanish that he made what was on the screen. The customer replied in Spanish that the screen had her correct order. Meanwhile I was still waiting for two tacos. I finally got my order after the drive through customer clapped back in Spanish. To anyone in charge of this location: do everyone a favor and get rid of Juan Angel. He's a creepy dude who just peeks into the dining room every few seconds and is messing up orders so badly that this store has to throw food away.

The decor is really cool with a lot of 1950s and 1960s style antiques. There's an old jukebox that they are in the process of getting repaired. There are tons of old pictures on the walls and vintage newspaper advertisements. It has two dining rooms and the decorating all sticks with that 1950s and 1960s themes. The booths are in perfect repair and if you like you stepped into the 1950s, even the tables are the old style 1950s tables. It's a very charming place! All of the food was cooked perfectly. The service was impeccable and they are very nice. It's not a fancy place like you were downtown Chicago. It's a cute place that is arguably the best on the strip of 119th Street in Whiting..... At least when you're talking about this sort of style. There's plenty of street parking but they also have parking behind the place. They pay a lot of attention to detail to make the place feel comfortable, even live plants. When you Walk in the door, you notice that the room is painted robin's egg blue. The place is just so cheery it will make you happy.

What happened to Arnie's Dog House is seriously disappointing…read more This was once one of the greatest hot dog stands in Northwest Indiana, and unfortunately, since being purchased by Luke Oil, it feels like almost everything that made Arnie's special has been taken away. First, they stopped using Vienna Beef for the hot dogs and sausages. Then they completely changed the chili, which now tastes like vinegary tomato paste instead of the classic chili people loved. And the fries? The great old fries have been replaced with skinny, limp, tasteless, greasy fries that are a major downgrade. They even got rid of the classic brown paper bag and replaced it with a sterile white one. It sounds like a small thing, but those little details were part of what made Arnie's feel like Arnie's. Unfortunately, this isn't just a case of a few things changing - the entire experience has been changed for the worse. If you're going to keep the Arnie's Dog House name, you should keep what made Arnie's Dog House great. Really, really sad to see what happened to such a beloved, longtime Northwest Indiana institution. This isn't the Arnie's Dog House I remember, and it's a shame.
