Great food and great service at a great price! My Clan (4 kids) all ordered Bacon Double Cheeseburgers with fries. The Grandbaby got a Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Fries. The Wife got a Bacon Double Cheeseburger with Texas Fries while I got a loaded Pork Tenderloin with Irish Fries. Everyone was satisfied with their meal. We ate here for lunch after reading that the burgers here were the best in Indiana. The burgers lived up to the hype and the service we received was top notch. We asked the young lady at the counter to cut our 2 burgers in half so we could share. She not only had the burgers cut in half, but she also put 1/2 of each burger in each of our to go containers so we would not have to split them up later. Such an amazing diner! My boyfriend said it was a NW Indiana staple so I had to try it and it did not disappoint. The decor was so cute and the server was very nice. Decent food, the onions were fresh and the pickles had some snap to them. Fries were ok, nothing to rave about. I'll say my coke was flat and had no fuzz to it. I stopped here during a recent road trip and really enjoyed their breakfast. I had the Biscuits and Gravy with eggs and a pancake with coffee. The B&G comes with a creamy white sausage gravy and the 3ggs I ordered were cooked a perfect over easy. The decor was that of an old stainless coated diner which I might add looked amazing. My husband and I have been coming here for years, and we've always had great service and a great experience. Lyndsey has always taken great care of us--we've always been her "regulars"!! We haven't been in quite some time though because of our newest addition--we're not huge fans of taking our 1-year-old because he's quite the messy eater. This trip we took our friends from out of town and our 1-year-old with us. It's a cool environment with retro decor. The food is classic American, and so good!! I had the Mickey, a chocolate shake, and Irish Nachos--it was delicious! Definitely a great place for comfort food!! Our waitress, Kaley, was super sweet and incredibly helpful--this is first time I've ever had someone other than Lyndsey. As most 1-year-olds do, who are taken out to eat, he made quite a mess. We offered to sweep it up, she said that she'd take care of it--no worries!! Great place for the entire family! We loved Kaley, still love Lyndsey, and we'll obviously be back! Visited for the first time tonight and was not disappointed. We ordered two burgers and a kid's meal plus a shake for dessert to share. Came to Schoop's with a group of 8 after a long morning of paintballing. Diner style interior was refreshing compared to the many chains in the surrounding area. Wait staff was great - kept the refills flowing and were extremely prompt with all our needs. The food was fantastic. I got the schoops burger and a cup of chili. Both items I highly recommend. The choices for breakfast went in a direction I wasn't expecting...Irish hashbrowns and Green River milkshakes, for example. The food here is really greasy and is seriously lacking in flavor. Also, the decor is very strange. I was eye-level with a picture of a baby covered in spaghetti and sauce. It was really distracting and kind of gross. I'm normally not picky about restaurant decor but having to stare at that picture for 45 minutes, I was forced to make an exception. This place is mediocre at best. The service is garbage, the food is overpriced, and the interior is shabby. At least it's mostly clean. My last meal there was Irish Nachos and a Chicago style hot dog. The fries in the Irish nachos were extremely soggy. The Chicago style was a DISGRACE. The bun was soggy, the hot dog was poor quality, the onions were dry, no sport peppers, no mustard, and the relish was all mushed on one half of the hot dog. Absolutely AWFUL. Their burgers are all right if you like them flavorless and greasy. My recommendation is to head elsewhere. You can get MUCH better for the price. read more

We just got hamburgers from there and my hamburger was severely burnt and never should have left the restaurant. Called the store and talk to the manger Kelsey who was very rude and unprofessional. She even put me on hold during the call to take another call and when she came back and I commented about being put on hold she stated the other customer was important. Will be calling the owner tomorrow and will take the hamburger back in so she could see for herself. Will never ever go to any Schoops ever again. The last time the hamburger was also burnt but not as bad as this time. The hamburger was also very very flat all the way through and Kelsey said this is how they make them. Schoops is a great place for an old-fashioned dinery hamburger. We'd never been to this one before, but it stands up to all of the other ones I've been too. The Portage one is in an old-fashioned dinery building, too, all silver and shiny. The burgers are huge. You might think you want a double cheeseburger, but start with a single. They're grilled to be a little crispy around the edges, nice and juicy in the middle, overlapping the edges of your bun. Share a basket of fries (we like the curly) with your eating partner. And enjoy a vanilla coke, red cream soda, or green river -- straight from the fountain. I love me some vanilla coke. If you're like me, you won't have any room left when you're done -- but they do have ice cream and other yummy desserts. (I find it funny, by the way, that this Schoop's was not previously listed on Yelp -- this one was a campaign stop for Obama with Evan Bayh back in '08.) read more

My favorite hamburger spot period!! I always get the Mickey add bacon and relish, it comes with french fries. I wash thia gigantic sandwich down with Green River which is a sprite i fused with lime flavored liquid. You can't gp wrong here. I've visited 4 locations and all of them have been on point. read more
