McDonald's - worm #2

McDonald's

When home for a birthday weekend for one of my siblings, I had to run out to grab a few things. Not…read morehaving time to squeeze in dinner we had to make due. There are choices in this area, but we opted for what we thought would be fast. We should have gone elsewhere if we were looking for fast. This McDonald's has been here for decades. Outlasting the go cart track, multiple rebuilds of the Sheetz, and stores closing down nearby. We pulled in, later in the evening, and the parking lot was nearly empty. We actually wondered if the lobby was closed. But we took the chance to come inside. Like most locations, this one focuses too much on the drive thru. Which became apparent when we had placed our orders and waiting long than you should have to at a fast food place. What was surprising was the customer service. The lady that did end up serving our food to us was a delight. She was funny, didn't take any grief, and if I remember correctly, was singing while she worked. I loved that she put my Dad in his place. My Dad was being a bit too much asking for things that he could have grabbed himself. The food is what you would expect. I did give their new sandwich a try. It was decent and possibly too much food for one meal. The Big Arch is basically the Big Mac in a trench coat. Better cheese and fried onion straws. This location went through a change when McDonald's wanted to grow up, but they held onto some nostalgia things. Like Ronald McDonald outside on a bench and some of the old roofline. But, like I said, not many people will care since they are in the drive thru.

This hasn't happened on just one occasion but probably three over the several years I've lived near here. There's no use complaining, I just stopped going all together.

I've not been to a Taco Bell for donkey's years but fancied a visit today. I ordered 3 hard Taco…read moreSupremes and a Burrito Supreme with a large diet Coke for about $30 which seems comparable to paying in a restaurant with table service. I got the hang of the kiosks and signed up for their reward program. The weather being conducive, I decided to sit outdoors in the enclosed area with a ceiling fan. The tables had food fragments from customers earlier in the day and the ant population got the memo that there was dinner on the ground as well as on the tables. Im not a fan of holding my food in my hands and was excited to see the 2 outdoor hand sanitizers, only to be set up for disappointment when neither of them worked. Fortunately, I brought my own and also loaded up with napkins. The Burrito Supreme was tasty and predictable, but I required 3 Taco Supremes to assuage my hunger. When ordering a drink, they wipe hand you an empty cup fir self service. I had ordered a large Diet Pepsi and helped myself to a refill, although don't know if that is permissible. I just needed liquids to flush down the Diablo hot sauce which id added to my Taco which already had jalapeño peppers on it. Im confident that I'll bevreminded about my decision to add so much hot sauce tomorrow morning. Anyway, the staff were all nice at my visit. There was a poster about the benefits of employment there including tuition assistance, free meals, retirement savings, referral bonuses, etc, so it seems that corporate takes care of its employees which is nice. The meal today filled the yen I had for tacos today, so there's that. The price was commensurate with a meal in a sit down restaurant. I noted a number of out of state license plates in their parking lot, so other people, likely tourists, probably wanted to drop in for some predictable vittles. Oh, the Taco Bell is located right on US Route 30 with easy on andvwasy off access. No unpleassnt surprises here today, but nothing exceptional or even extraordinary either.

Arby's - BBQ brisket sandwich. Dry and tasted like liquid smoke.

This is my go to Arby's location. Normally I go through the drive thru. Today, I chose to go…read moreinside because I wanted to request one of their specials and felt I could better articulate this in person. I've been in all levels of customer service for over 30+ years. I feel that there's NEVER a situation where you should publicly reprimand an employee. It shows lack of respect for the employee and the customers. Today, when I walked in the dining room had a handful of customers eating. I was the only customer waiting at the counter to place my order. I could visually see 3 employees. One working drive thru, one in the cooking section and one at the register. Whoever the employee was doing drive thru was upset over something that the guy at the register did or didn't do correctly. I could tell this person was not only confused by the accusation but embarrassed. The condescending tone did nothing to help this employee correct the problem or learn from it. It appeared that the employee in the kitchen must have sensed the confusion and tried to explain what the snarky employee was referring to. However her approach and tone wasn't any better. I get that I walked into a situation I didn't know what the full context was, however again that doesn't give anyone the right t be embarrassed in front of customers because you're frustrated. It appears some additional training is necessary for everyone at this location.

Pros; Friendly Service…read more Tasty food for fast food. Cons; Drive up service only at this location. Its fast food. Processed Roast Beef If you know me you know that I am not a fast food fan however, I do go every now and again and I do like ARBY'S for thier Beef n Cheddar. My wife and I stopped in at The Gettysburg location today for a quick lunch on the way home from camping at Gettysburg. They have a new Ribeye Steak Sanwhich on thier menu. It was surprisingly very good. Now don't get ot twisted, being a Philadelphia native born n raised it does not even compete with a Philly Steak n Cheese but, for a fast food Steak Sandwhich it was good. It had big pieces of red and green peppers throughout and the cheese was melted through like a Philly sanwhich not just laued on top. Bottom line; Give it a try, its tasty.
