In short: The food is fresh and prices are great! I am currently on a low carb diet, and the staff is more than happy to make any of their sandwiches into a lettuce wrap or salad version. Been going for over 15 years. The sandwiches are good but the meat is lacking. However, I noticed the bread isn't consistent. Seems like every time I go they have a new bread. During my recent visit, my sandwich was made without asking me what kind of cheese I want. The man was getting ready to throw the cheese in the trash when I told him he could just leave it on so the cheese doesn't get wasted. Food I like that they load up the toppings- onions pickles, banana peppers, and jalepenos. I like their wheat bread. It has a nice honey taste to it. I didn't really care for their meat. It was my call as to whether we would grab sandwiches here or from Jersey Mike's (our favorite). I made a horrible choice; we will never return to this restaurant. When you walk in, the restaurant itself is just not welcoming at all. The entrance spits you into a seating area that is cramped and crammed with small tables. It is not clearly marked where you are supposed to go to place your order, and the employees weren't about to clarify anything, but we eventually figured out how the process worked. I ordered a regular Philly cheesesteak.They clearly need lessons on how to properly make a Philly, because pepperoncinis DO NOT belong on a cheesesteak! And when they asked if I wanted mustard or marinara sauce, I was all kinds of bewildered. I got through about half of my low-quality meat and bread sandwich before I couldn't take anymore. I got a funky bite of the mayo and needed to stop. My hubby got a capone? One again, Sub-Machine had a very dissatisfied customer. The bottom-shelf meat and possibly rotten condiments made him shudder. He could barely stomach any of his sandwich, ending up very disappointed. At first he made a comment about the bread being tasty, but then as he got through the sandwich, he realized that the bread *really* wasn't that good, it was just that the rest of the sandwich was so terrible that it made the stale bread delicious. The sandwich left my husband with a desire for something more...like ipecac. The service was so impersonal too. I know these girls are slinging sandwiches and all, but c'mon, it doesn't hurt to smile or show a little bit of life behind glossy uncaring eyes. The sandwiches tasted as empty as their souls (credit to hubby for that illuminating tidbit). The only upside to this place is the price. The sandwiches are dirt cheap. So if you really don't give a rat's ass about the quality of your food and are all about the bottom line, then by all means, eat here. I actually worked at the Submachine in Santa Monica Ca. It was in 1977. I was a manager. I loved all the subs. My favorite was the AlCapone.
