Officially done with this place, certain employee thats incredibly rude and i had already called the owner about this person (African American with dreads)...Gave a second chance and ordered the big ray which is pastrami and roast beef, and this same employee made my sandwhich and gave me turkey instead of pastrami, my guess is on purpose from the previous incident..I was on my lunch break so didnt have time to go back but uve had enough..He needs to be fired!!! This would have been a great sub stop if it wasn't for a major pet peeve of mine......the bread is not sliced completely through. It's like they make a hot dog bun out of the roll. You're forced to eat from the top of the sandwich down. In my case, all the toppings are first, then (if they all don't spill out), you get to the meat of the sandwich. In short: The food is fresh and prices are great! I am currently on a low carb diet, and the staff is more than happy to make any of their sandwiches into a lettuce wrap or salad version. Highly disappointed. I was picking up an order here for someone at this place. The line was so long so I thought the place must be amazing. Wrong. First sub was a French dip. No flavor, meat was dry and hardly even any meat just bread with very thin meat. My bf literally just took the entire amount of meat and just put it on one half to make a halfway decent sandwich even then it still had no flavor and the au jus tasted like beef broth from a can. Second sub was a Philly cheese steak which was more disappointing than the dip. Once again super dry, no flavor, and literally no cheese. Whole pepperoncinis with the stems still on them were just thrown in the sandwich. The Marinara that may have slightly saved the sandwich was blah as well. I absolutely cannot with this "pastrami" sandwich. I ordered a hot pastrami with pickle, mustard, and pepper jack cheese. This is not a pastrami. The bread: was super light in color, & was too soft. It looked and tasted like super thin sliced ham with a slight pastrami taste and lunchmeat texture. Those that rate this sandwich high are crazy and have never had a real pastrami sandwich. I wanted to love this place because the pastrami sandwich was highly recommended by a lancaster local. Now I need to re evaluate the persons tastebubs that did the recommending. This was a waste of $8. This place may be great for other sandwiches but pastrami isnt one of them. I'm not sure if I'll return to try other sandwiches. I watched some of the women making sandwiches..... no hair nets (and one had big moosed hair), they wore gloves but prepared the sandwiches atop their arms. The sandwich was long. They have ample seating both inside and outside. Food I like that they load up the toppings- onions pickles, banana peppers, and jalepenos. I like their wheat bread. It has a nice honey taste to it. I didn't really care for their meat. I didn't feel like the quality and taste were there. I ordered the turkey and cheese but didn't get the option for mesquite turkey or oven roasted turkey, I just got bland turkey. Same goes for the cheese. When you walk in, the restaurant itself is just not welcoming at all. The entrance spits you into a seating area that is cramped and crammed with small tables. The bottom-shelf meat and possibly rotten condiments made him shudder. He could barely stomach any of his sandwich, ending up very disappointed. At first he made a comment about the bread being tasty, but then as he got through the sandwich, he realized that the bread *really* wasn't that good, it was just that the rest of the sandwich was so terrible that it made the stale bread delicious. The sandwich left my husband with a desire for something more...like ipecac. The service was so impersonal too. I know these girls are slinging sandwiches and all, but c'mon, it doesn't hurt to smile or show a little bit of life behind glossy uncaring eyes. I actually worked at the Submachine in Santa Monica Ca. It was in 1977. I was a manager. I loved all the subs. My favorite was the AlCapone. If I remember correctly it was Italian Sausage with provolone cheese and pickles, tomatoes, and onions. Mmmmmm... it was the bomb.... Also the Bugsy Malone. It was the best food, all fresh, every day. Does anyone know what happened to the Submachine in Santa Monica? I think you should open one in Anna Texas.
