Amazing. I returned three pairs of progressive glasses that didn't work for me. This was my first time with progressive and thought I had to give up. I was reluctant to try another place but the shifting of glasses was getting too much. Finally a pair I can use almost all the time. I still have issues with my computer screens but I don't mind switching when I get to the office. The nuisance came when I had to read something on my phone or see a street sign. Dr Cassel and staff spent several appointments correctly diagnosing me and making sure that my new (very fashionable) glasses were the right fit and strength. I've been there twice in the past 4 years. The most recent time was this week. I went in for an eye exam and contact exam. I had a nice and friendly time with my Dr who gave me a pair of contacts right on the spot (that was cool). She talked my into the extra eye exam that costed $55, but I went a head and did it because I get migraine quite often and I just wanted to make sure my optical nerves were okay. Because it's in Rockefeller Center, their glasses are a bit pricey. It' s hard not to want to spend money on a pair of cool glasses especially since cool, retro glasses are in style. They use that to their advantage, I work in retail and I can tell when someone is being up-sold to and while I was there I witnessed this from an associate. It didn't happen to me, but when I go back to pick out my glasses I will be ready. If money isn't an issue for you, then this a nice, comfortable, clean, friendly place to get your eyewear, if you are on a budget I suggest finding another location. read more

So these days it is no shock that people with decent insurance coverage get screwed over by medical practices. I have seen it far too often since moving to NYC 3 years ago. I have never in my 20 years of wearing contacts had to pay a separate contact eye exam fee, and if I had I would have been notified in advance. I called to schedule my eye exam and specified that it was needed for contacts. I provided my insurance info over the phone and asked if it would be covered, and was told I would only be responsible for the $20 copay and any contacts that would be ordered. Not the case... Contact Lens Evaluation - $175.00. Just be warned that they do not explain any charges prior to having you sit with someone at the end of your exam and jot down charges for you. Had my first exam this past weekend and the staff was wonderful!! I tried out Studio Optix for the first time and noticed how quick and easy everything went. Eralda who did the medical testing was wonderful and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole testing process. She was gentle and informative before I began each test. The machinery was definitely more high tech and better than previous ones i've been tested on in the past. I was seen by Dr. Butler who had tremendous patience with me as I struggled to find the right contact lenses for my eyes. I appreciated his work ethic and would recommend anyone to see Dr. Butler. I also needed new frames and lenses as I use the computer everyday for work and sat down with Mike to choose frames and go over any questions I had. Mike was amazing as he chose many different frames to suit both my face and my liking. He allowed me to step outside my comfort zone and we chose frames that were suitable for my complexion which I fell in love with. The process throughout the time I was scheduled was super quick which I appreciated since I was in a rush. I have come to consider my eyewear (and my eyes, for that matter) to be an investment. I wear glasses every day, so I want them to be as nice as my best clothes are. Studio Optix is upscale, for sure, but they do take insurance. And they carry the best lines. I've been going there for several years now. I find that the assistants there are great at breaking me out of my style comfort zone a little, and I now have glasses that I truly LOVE. (Two pairs of progressives and a separate pair for computer work.) I get complimented all the time by friends and strangers, and for the first time in my life I actually feel pretty wearing my glasses. If you're happy with basic frames you find at Lenscrafters, then yes, you'd be better off there budgetwise, but if you're looking for a frame that really helps you stand out and stand tall, this is the place to go. This is a very conveniently located boutique with a comprehensive selection of stylish and contemporary frames. The staff is warm, responsive and knowledgeable. Dr. Klibanoff (sp) was delightful and actually referred me to her personal eye doctor for a Lasik evaluation. I've purchased several frames as well as contact lenses from them, and I plan on returning. However, Dr. Cassel has a poor demeanor and his disposition is borderline offensive (hence the two stars). He was dismissive arrogant and shockingly argumentative in response to my sharing fairly mundane details of my last visit. I hope that my experience was an outlier and perhaps he was just having a bad day; however, given how his staff responded to me after I saw him, I suspect that it wasn't the first, and sadly, won't be the last time that he demeans a patient. read more

In and out with an eye appointment to boot in an hour (it felt like a New York minute!) Studio Optix - Optometrists Near Me - New York, New York

I've been going here for my eye exam (and occasional contact purchase) for several years. Referred by a co-worker, as we work nearby. Sometimes I buy stuff from them, sometimes not. If I'd had better experiences with some of the staff, I may have bought more in the past. I am not surprised by the negative staff reviews and positive doctor reviews. I've had interactions with mainly Dr. Klibanoff and a minor interaction with the man doctor who seemed nice. I can't rave enough about Dr. Klibanoff. She's nice, super smart/knowledgeable (have seen her for minor and not so minor issues), and funny, but also extremely professional. She'll joke around but not at the expense of keeping appointments tied up. She's just overall extremely lovely and reasonable with everything and everyone (and I've seen her with lots of clients.) She's one of my favorite doctors (of any kind). It's because of her that I continue to go here (despite anyone else/any other experience). I have often felt (to varying degrees) either pushed to buy stuff or at least I have seen their attitude visibly shift if, for some reason, I don't purchase or tell them I'm going to come back another time to consider purchasing. I mean, I get it, it's a business and they'd ideally like to sell you frames and/or contacts. That's where the experience is obviously different than going to just a doctor's office. It would be nice if the doctor asked you (upon finishing your exam): "do you wish to speak to our sales staff about frames or your benefits for contacts?" and then if you say "no, not today", they could just usher you to the door and you could have your prescription emailed to you. Some of the staff are probably better than others at understanding the long-sale concept of sales/customer service (which means you retain your friendliness and helpful demeanor even if the customer doesn't buy something that day or they're using up your time with a request). Some of them are friendly and helpful. Perhaps some of them are in-experienced. I get the challenge of that, too, though, having worked for years in customer service and as wait staff, etc! The NY public can be a challenge. :) Overall, I'd say to 100% go here for Dr. Sarah Klibanoff, despite what may or may not be true/your experience with the staff. And just arm yourself with information from your insurance carrier BEFORE you go in, so that you don't end up paying hundreds for stuff you didn't need, and that some sales people are not going to warn you off of. Also remember that if you're there for your exam, it's your doctor's office and you're entitled to your exam and prescription, regardless of whether you buy their lenses, etc. read more

Adam and Dr. Brandon Butler were wonderful. My overall experience was excellent. My exams for contacts and glasses were thorough. Dr. Butler was patient and detailed. He was extremely helpful when I had to choose my contacts. Then I had the pleasure of meeting Adam. He's such a joy. He was also very patient and thorough. I told him what style of glasses I was interested in purchasing, and he was able to show me some really great options. I actually remembered him from the Francis Klein trunk show video that is on the company's website. That video influenced my decision to visit the store. I got the best prescription from these guys at Studio Optix! They use state of the art equipment and run many deferent test to get your eyes seeing perfect!!! When a coworker recommended Studio Optix, I immediately went to the website and filled out the appointment request. The online form was both brief and user-friendly, taking just 30 seconds to complete. The next day a gentleman called to confirm my preferred appointment date and insurance information. When there was a question regarding my coverage, he requested the 1-800 number on the back of the card and called my provider himself. Shortly after our call, I received an email confirmation of my appointment. The facility was very well maintained and the staff extremely professional. The new patient paperwork took less than a minute to complete and my appointment time was honored. I was seen by Dr. Tejal Rana. She was wonderful! She gave detailed, but easily understood, explanations on the tests preformed and their corresponding findings. She updated my prescription and the brand of my contact lenses, giving me a 1 week supply to get started. It's worth mentioning that not one of the tests performed felt invasive or uncomfortable. In fact, when she put drops in my eye, something that ordinarily makes me squeamish, I barely flinched. After the exam, Dr. Rana introduced me to a man who rang me up and filled my contact order. Studio Optix had a full year of my new contacts on hand, so I was able to walk out with everything I needed! If you order one full year of lenses, you get $100 back through a mail-in rebate. My appointment began at 1:30pm, and I was out the door by 2:15pm. I loved Studio Optix and will absolutely go back. read more

Terrible! They emphasize their multiple price points but do not have much to offer and make up price points on, what seems like, the spot. My insurance plan covered my whole exam with no copay. Because of this and the miscommunication from one employee to another, time was wasted in confusion and I was told I would have to pay out of pocket more than once. The doctor was very pleasant but the rest of the office and its staff made me feel unwelcome and swindled at times. I regretted the glasses I purchased almost immediately. When I called the next day they weren't helpful at all in canceling my order and after delaying a direct response to me for an hour, they told me the glasses were ready even though the sales woman told me it would have taken two weeks originally. I would not recommend this business to anyone who isn't careless or very wealthy. read more

Just went for my first pair of glasses ever (I'm in my mid-40s) because they're super-convenient to my office. Everyone on the staff was lovely, and patiently explained what they were doing b/c I'd never had an eye exam. I saw Dr. Butler, who was charming and patient, and worked with Morgan to pick out frames--he didn't bat an eye when I went through basically every frame in the store before choosing one. If you're a fashionista, you can find some fun, quirky looks here, but they also have more sedate and classic frames. My understanding from longer-time glasses-wearers is that they're fairly expensive here, but you're certainly getting your money's worth in customer service. read more

My husband and I come to Studio Optix year after year, and not just because they take our insurance. Their vision testing seems more thorough than what I have received elsewhere--there's a lot of equipment here. The optometrist I see, Dr. Butler (one of three, I think) takes his time and explains things well. Finally, there's Andrea, who has a great eye for which frames best flatter a person's face. It's uncanny. A number of times my husband and I have purchased the very first frames Andrea has picked out for us. (Someone's going to hire her to design frames--till then, try to see her.) We spend a lot of time in Los Angeles, too, but we always come here for vision testing and glasses. read more

To be honest i was scared to come here because of the mixed reviews! However, it is right below my job so you could not beat the location so I came here anyway and I am SOOOO glad I did. When I called I was able to make an appointment for a few days out and i was able to ask plenty of insurance questions just to make sure i was covered when i went there. As soon as i arrived I was greeted and able to fill out all of my information on an iPad which makes it super convenient. Once I was done, it only took like 5 minutes for me to be seen by the doctors. I did decide to pay for the extra tests since I don't go to the eye doctor often and it was very through and so easy which helps put my mind at ease. The doctor saw me and showed me all of my results explained everything he was doing and why which a Type A like me loves! Glass Selection & Price I know what scared me the most was the prices and "pushy sales people". Let me just say this did not happen to me! My associate was super patient as I looked at like 40 different glasses and she agreed that this was a big decision, SO nice. with that being said in total for everything (including the $55 that was not covered by my insurance) I only paid $185 out of pocket for designer glasses with special anti break lenses. I have Davis Vision so in addition to deducting what the insurance covers, you get 20 percent off everything else and my FSA helped me pay the rest. I would absolutely go to this location again and I'm so glad I didn't let the few bad reviews sway me. The staff here is amazing. I am displaced from Florida because of Hurricane Irma and ran out of contacts. They got me in for an appointment that same day and are providing me with samples until my contacts can be delivered. They are incredibly friendly and accommodating, and Dr. Butler was great. I have trouble giving Studio Optix even one star. Our family has been a longtime customer of this store and yet treated in the most unprofessional way. They do not stand behind their products. My Husband had the arm to his eyeglasses break twice in the same spot during the warranty period. Yet they would not assist in any manner and wanted to charge twice the amount they quoted on the first repair to make the second repair. This is not the first problem we have had with their products. We will never buy anything from them again and can not recommend Studio Optix! read more

Update to my review previously: I am very disappointed in this place and am not happy to be writing this update to my review. I came to Studio Optixx a few years ago because they were located near my office. I complained of headaches from looking at the computer screen and just wanted a general eye exam. I was told I needed to wear glasses for the computer. I bought the very expensive glasses with the anti-glare coating and they sort of helped. I kept going back and kept getting glasses/lenses adjusted and my vision was basically getting worse. I was also very uncomfortable wearing the glasses for the computer because looking far became blurry. Long story short, my office moved locations to downtown manhattan and I saw a new doctor. She told me that the reason why my vision from far is blurry is because the prescription in my right eye is too strong so my eyes are working harder. Plus the axis of my astigmatism was wrong! She told me that I am near sighted...which means I don't need glasses for the computer, I need them only to look FAR! She told me to stop wearing the glasses and lower the brightness on my computer screen! TA DA! All of a sudden my eyes are no longer blurry and I don't need glasses. I do not recommend this place AT ALL. I am very disappointed and feel like I was robbed off my money. They also force these expensive exams on you and if you decline you get the story of how they found a tumor in someone's brain from these tests. Overall...do not recommend this place at all. read more
