I just got back from a trip to Italy where I purchased my first pair of Piero Masarro sunglasses and decided I had to have another pair. These glasses are so unique and only 100 are made of each style. I found out that Petite Optique carries this brand, and made an appointment to go check them out. Needless to say, I ended up getting 2 pairs of glasses and a pair of sunglasses because the selection they have is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I haven't been to another eyeglass store that has such an amazing, one-of-a-kind selection. I spent 2 hours in the store trying on different styles and brands. Everyone was so helpful at selecting the right pair, and as I said, I just couldn't help myself and had to get 3. Can't wait to pick up my eyeglasses and already rockin' my new Kuboraum sunglasses. I'm an industrial designer, insanely picky about my frames, and was also having a panic attack when I came in as my glasses broke at the beginning of a long business trip in NYC. These guys had me in and out of the shop in 45 minutes, and even managed to have my tricky prescription ready for me shortly thereafter. He would even say that the kind of glasses I wanted were inappropriate for me, and that the ones I liked were "cheap". When the glasses were ready with the prescription lenses and the prescription wasn't right, the on-site optometrist tested me for no charge and came up with a completely different prescription, which turned out to be much better. Oh my goodness. Where do I begin! I just can't thank Petite Optique for their superb customer service. I was so taken from the first time I came to the store in 2008 and still love them and their service. They have such an eye for taste and go out of their way to make sure that the customer is happy. They are well educated in their field and the merchandise they sell. The optometrist is on point with her prescriptions and consultations. And as far as the owners of the store, I can't speak highly enough about them. This is a family oriented business and from the Mother, Father, son and daughter, they are just a pleasure to do business with. I came in here with my glasses prescription from Moscot to ask about getting contacts, since I saw online that this boutique takes VSP. A clerk here told me with a smirk that prescription was for glasses, and looked at me like a moron. This would have been a cool opportunity to offer me an exam for contacts, or just like be nice? But instead they were condescending. We stood in silence for a minute and I walked out. I have no idea why I was treated so dismissively, but I'm going to try and not waste any more brainpower on it. I've had this place on my list to visit for a very long time. I love wearing glasses and own a couple of pairs and I'm always looking for new places with amazing style and great selection of hard to find brands. I recently purchased my most interesting frames at Petite Optique - I have a small face and strong prescription so it is always tricky to find the perfect frame. I love the frame Ludmilla helped me find and never had such finely crafted lenses before - they are very thin and razor sharp. In addition, the eye exam that I had there was very reasonably priced (although it didn't include the prescription for contacts) and I ended up with a very accurate prescription with changes made to the old one that resulted in a much better vision. I think the more accurate prescription with the great workmanship on the lenses was clearly a winning combination! Petite Optique is not cheap - I never spent so much on a pair of glasses - but the result is outstanding! read more

First rate customer service! I left a pair of 5 year old designer glasses that I bought from Petite Optique to have a missing small screw replaced. I was called by a very apologetic Lyudmila a day later who informed me that Igor had accidentally broke my frame. Lyudmila invited me in to select a new pair of my choosing with prescription lenses at no cost whatsoever. I've been a regular customer for about eight years. I buy specs from here about every other year. The styles are very chic and modern, little tiny wire works of art. I've found the staff to be incredibly helpful and gracious to me. Last week I randomly entered and tried on about 5 frames, but told them that my favorite pair, which I bought from this store, was lost. (They were really amazing glasses...) I inquired about replacing this pair exact pair - so they looked me up in their computer and confirmed that I bought my old frames in 2004! (I lost mine in some bar in Boston). The gentleman replied that he did not think the frames were made anymore, and Petite Optique did not work with the supplier of those frames anymore. That being said, they went ahead and called for me to ask if there was any way to get that model. They called England! "It's still early in England, we'll call them later and call you to let you know." I didn't think it was possible to ever see my favorite specs, so I went on my way. A couple of hours later, yay! I am unfortunately graced with a very tough prescription. Throughout my adult life I've had to have countless prescriptions sent back, fine-tuned or returned. As the time approached for my foray into progressive lenses I was prepared for painful process. Enter Petite Optique, hands down the best customer service and attention to detail that I've experienced anywhere, for anything, not just prescription glasses. Every step from the exam through multiple frame adjustments was done with the kind of craftsmanship and desire to do a good job that one rarely encounters. And, as many have pointed out, they have a spectacularly well curated collection of frames. Co-owner Lyuda can pick out the perfect pair (or pairs!). After having a great experience with my first pair, I brought in another pair that I had purchased online to have them work their lens magic. The second time was not a charm with regard to the initial prescription and after almost a month of not being able to adjust I brought them back to see what they could do. Co-owner Igor was unrelenting in his quest to ensure the prescription was correct and could work for me. He worked directly with the lab to discover that they were off a few degrees and had the lenses remade (at no cost to me). He also made several crucial adjustments to the angle of the frames that addressed a few lingering issues with the corrected lenses. Bottom line: At Petite Optique they care very deeply about providing the best service. Inexpensive? No. Worth it? Absolutely, especially if you have a tricky prescription. I've had a very positive experience here, found the owners at both stores (a husband and wife team) to be very helpful and solicitous. This is not a cheap place, by any means, and if you are looking to get a bargain, don't go here. They trade in high-end glasses across the board. That said, the pair of frames I bought (Paul Smith) were not marked up that heavily over what I'd be able to get directly from the manufacturer. Their lens package was reasonable in comparison to even places like LensCrafters. I looked into buying these frames on the internet, and certainly there were sites that offered them at a considerable markdown, but those sites looked very sketchy to me and quite possibly scams. I did have the experience mentioned in another review of the owner at the Union Square store saving the model numbers of the frames I wanted in her computer rather than giving them to me, which wasn't at all the practice I encountered at other shops. But she also handed me the glasses to try on and I looked at the inner temples and took note of what they were. Personally, I feel like you can't fault owners of glasses stores for trying to combat the practice of using their stores as sample shops and then going off and ordering glasses online. The bottom line for me was that these people helped me a lot in finding a pair of glasses that I really liked. Each of them took time with me and offered what I thought were honest appraisals and advice. After some shopping around and researching, I found that, on these particular frames, they were offering the best deal on them as well. They were an expensive purchase, no doubt, but I'm happy with them. Glasses are still something I like to buy in person, and this shop has given me great service all around. This place has an amazing selection of very cool glasses. They have arty glasses that either have amazing full colors, or no hinges, or something different. Their glasses are not cheap but their customer service is great so you could get a few cheap pairs that you don't like as much or one pair for the rest of your life. My wife's super expensive frames started to unravel and when she brought them to Igor, he shipped them back to the factory and had them replaced in a week. Very hip selection of frames. An Apple executive recommended this place to me years back, and I keep coming back after looking at a lot of other places only to find they have a great wide-range selection of really stylish as well as functional frames. They have wild frames, as well as conventional, but all are stylish and good quality. And they have great ongoing service -- if you need the little rubber thing on your nose piece, they will replace it without any charge. Same for the other accessories such as the ear wrap, etc. Each time I go in it seems it is a friendly Russian person behing the counter that is very intent -- and honest -- about helping you find frames that work for you. The cool thing is, they don't seem to be clingy and always trying to impose a purchase upon you. They seem to have perfected the unconditional service aspect of the business, which is why I enjoy coming back for more frames. (Other opticians, please take note!) They have a sister store in the West Village on West 4th near Washington Place on the corner below Sheridan Square. Again, I was impressed that the woman there was not pushing anything on me but encouraging me to take some time and decide, and she was sincere. I hate the pressure that typical sales people put on you, which is why I like coming to a place where honesty and detachment are the modus operandi. Definitely add this place to your list of eyewear locations for looking for frames. read more

I was just in the area and had been putting off getting my glasses readjusted for the longest time, but they were literally sliding off of my face. And I always hate going into places and asking, since i'm not a customer and it feels...icky. These folks could not have been more lovely. They adjusted my glasses beautifully and quickly, and spoke to me at length when i expressed interest in some incredible indestructible glasses that they had on a video display. The frames are magic and have no screws and can be put back together no matter what. When I get my next pair, those are it. No more adjustments for me. read more

Both of my experiences here have been absolutely stellar. I highly, highly recommend this place! My first experience here occurred a year ago when I was interested in buying new frames. They were so generous with their time: teaching me which frames would best suit my face and allowing me to try (and re-try) as many of them as needed. In the end, I walked out with a bright red Face à Face pair that I absolutely love. Fast forward to last week when these glasses got accidentally damaged. I went to Petite Optique on Saturday hoping they could be repaired. I just picked them up today, Monday, and they're good as new. And because I bought these frames from Petite Optique, my glasses repair was free. I discovered this store a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased that I did! Their west village location is quaint and characterful, whereas the union square store (which I ended up walking up to) is sleek and modern. They have a fantastic selection of beautiful frames and gave honest opinions on my frame and lens selection. I ended up having an issue with my insurance, but they sorted that out without any fuss and in a very professional manner. I have bought two wonderfully unique pairs of glasses from Petite Optique. Never before in all my years of wearing glasses have I gotten so many compliments from total strangers passing by! However, one pair broke, and as I had just moved from NYC to Los Angeles, I was not able to find any replacements even close to their uniqueness. I called Abraham at Petite Optique, and she arranged for an entirely new pair to be mailed to me at minimal cost! Never has this happened. I paid more than I usually would for the first pair, but oh, so worth it!! I will travel back to NYC in the future just for their glasses. Customer Service is really bad. I agree with another reviewer who said they get defensive like the client is saying something really accusatory. Also, it was a big mistake walking in there and being a client because if your glasses have an issue they will make you pay good money for every little scratch...and you can't really through the lenses away if the frame needs to get fixed, but then you pay a lot for the frame to get fixed. It is a vicious circle they try to put you in - at the end I decided to let my glasses go and look for another store. Unfortunately I broke the frame of my glasses and wanted to change it. When I asked for a little discount Ibrahim looked at me like I was pretending something weird. He told me it was not his fault I broke my glasses - funny right? Like I was blaming it on him. Anyway, I told him of course it wasn't his fault and I am willing to pay for my mistake but if only he could do me a little discount I would really appreciate it. He could have just told me - no I'm sorry we don't do discounts here and that would have been fine. But no, right away he felt like I was attacking him, got really frustrated and continued blaming it on me. I don't know how many times did I tell him that I wasn't trying to have free service but just a minuscule discount. I ended up leaving the store without repairing my glasses and I don't know what to do now. I have a $500 pair of broken glasses that I want to repair and continue using, but have to find another place that is at least more customer friendly. read more

My wife and I shopped here a year ago and spent some time going through the many fabulous frame designs they have on display. We chose two designs; they were going to be a gift so we didn't purchase them right away. The two designs were logged against a customer number ready for the day we called to order. Well it took us 9 months to place the order, the frames were still on file when we called the week before Christmas and within three days we had the frames. We returned this Easter holiday weekend (we live in CA) to get a final fitting on one of the frames and to look at what was new and exciting. The service was fantastic, they took the frames right away and re sized them for me, cleaned all the frames I had with me and gave me new cleaning cloths. The people were matter of fact and great to talk to, no BS here, they tell you exactly what they can do for you and when they can get it done. I love stores like this. Many retailers who sell high end designer products will tell you one thing to get you to place the order, you leave, they call and add a week to the delivery. Not here. I would recommend this company and have to my friends, the staff knows their products and they are well connected with their suppliers to get what you want when you want it.
