My new Face a Face glasses. Thank you Tristan!
    Julie J.

As always there was excellent customer service at James Leonard Opticians. The selection of frames were so diverse, unique, and most importantly are beautifully designed. I truly appreciate the time and effort that went into the process of finding the right pair for me. I didn't feel rushed and the staff was extremely knowledgeable and patient. Will definitely return again soon: The staff was going above and beyond my expectations for COVID precautions which made me feel comfortable and at ease. All frames were sanitized and the whole process was smooth from beginning to end.

The team is fantastic! Detail-oriented optician, observant and fun assistants. The whole team weighed in on my frame choice, and I am thrilled. I was able to try on each and every frame that struck my fancy, and landed on this fabulous pair. Thank you James Leonard Team!

James Leonard Opticians Face A Face frames picked out by Tristan

Tristan at James Leonard has literally changed the way I I purchase glasses. I don't think I'd go anywhere else for any less service. He is an excellent optician. I came in with some glasses that I've had for some time and wanted to have lenses added to. I also already had my prescription from my regular eye doctor elsewhere but new regulation at that office was that they couldn't fit lenses to frames they don't sell. Well James showed me and explained to me why, my lenses are beautiful and maybe just not the right fit for eyeglasses. He was able to showed me beautifully shaped and colored frames that were never anything I'd go for, but definitely fit my face much better. Sidebar: the original frames I brought with me are being turned into prescription sunnies. I'm happy, I feel the frames we picked are gorgeous and I can't wait to wear them everywhere and get a million compliments ;)

Amazing shop with amazing service. They use highest quality lenses and carry stylish frames (that you won't see yourself coming and going in). Tristan and the staff are excellent. Tristan is very experienced, and helped me pick the best eyeglass frame suited to my personal style, shape face, and eye color, that would work with my very high prescription. I am thrilled with my new frames and am going back to pick up a pair of sunglasses. In addition, they have an excellent optician Dr. Stoica, that can examine your eyes, glasses prescription and/or contact lenses. She is extremely thorough, better than most. I highly recommend James Leonard Opticians. I know that you will be pleased.

My best pair of glasses ever (Lindburg frames with Carl Zeiss lenses)

No review of James Leonard would be complete without the word "amazing," so let's get started: amazing service, amazing selection of glasses, amazing quality all around. And speaking of quality, this place doesn't compromise or waste any time on mediocrity, and they'll make it clear up front. They recommended me a Lindburg frame, but I was a bit skeptical at first. They explained everything in a simple way and I immediately felt like I was making the right choice. I took the leap and went with their suggestion. The glasses were ready a few days later. My jaw almost fell off and hit the midtown pavement when I put these on and saw how clear the world looked. The best pair of glasses I've ever worn, bar none. I was so happy, I came back a few minutes later and gave them a box of macaroons as a treat. I never do this. Their level of professionalism and depth of knowledge was much appreciated. My first night out with these new glasses, my friends noticed and gave me some unforgettable complements. I won't go anywhere else for glasses again!

Nice folks and they carry really high quality frames. They can help you choose the right frame for your face.

I have been here quite a few times and every single time i leave feeling like i learned a lot about optics and frames. The expertise of the staff are unparalleled. Not only does everyone here understand the quality of good frames, lens and everything that goes with having great optics, but they are extremely friendly. I had an issue with my insurance and James himself spent 25 minutes on the phone trying to ascertain the issue and do his best to fix it - and he did. Really friendly staff, with great knowledge, highly recommended

They are way better than major companies. The craftsmanship is perfect. You will have better quality lenses for the same price.

My ophthalmologist naturally wanted me to buy a good pair and suggested Purdy's on Madison Avenue. Knowing how expensive this store was considering they can make a pair in one day I decided to see other places. Sunglass Hut's prices started at $175. Then Laura insisted I go to Saks Off Fifth where I nearly fainted when the salesperson said that sunglasses started at $250. Warby Parker to the rescue. Located inside Grand Central Station, this store is conveniently located as one comes up on the escalator. Carla, a salesperson, helped check which pairs were polarized as many were not. Finally I found one named Sydney Brioche Tortoise with tortoise shell frames which looked attractive. Solomon tightened it for me. The return policy is thirty days with a full refund. This store is bright and all the offerings are nicely displayed.

Even the busiest found time to help when I had an urgent problem. As a TBI (traumatic brain injury) survivor, I really appreciate that they are a rare place, not just with the expertise, but the facilities to treat the wide range of such injuries. The only downsides are: because this is a teaching school, students/interns observe procedures (with your permission); and that, even with an appointment, the wait to order and pick up eyeglasses is long. I have recommended them to a few acquaintances with TBI, all of whom have been pleased, some of whom had not received help elsewhere. Support staff is also excellent, and helpful, and the physical space is pleasant.

I walked in and was told that my exam would be tied to a purchase of new glasses. Insurance would not pay for the exam without a purchase. Ok. I had my exam and went to look at glasses. There was one person assisting three different people at once. The sales person handing me frames had a cold, ugh! Also, he looked confused. I found a pair that I liked and was told that they would discount the frames if I paid everything upfront. I would get an itemized bill when I pick up my glasses for insurance. For some reason, they can't give you that prior to pick up! On the day of pickup, I got the itemized bill and made sure to ask for my prescription. They tried to sell me reading glasses and/or custom sunshades for the new glasses at $299! They told me that clip in's were no longer made. When I tried to submit my claim, AETNA told me that this Cohen Optical was not part of the network! I needed to file an out-of-network claim! So from my $578 bill, I am only going to receive $70 for the frames and $40 for the lenses! And on top of all this, the manager was rude with an attitude! Lessons learned: call your insurance company and check if a store is in network. And read the reviews on Yelp! I'm taking my prescription and going to Warby Parker!

I stopped in at 5PM today and it became apparent that the doctor wanted to rush out. He started with a rude comment to the assistant about adjusting the chin strap better however her position was more comfortable. Then he was rude and condescending when I wasn't able to read the letters because they looked like blobs. Isn't that why I'm getting an exam in the first place?! I was mockingly told to guess even though I said I couldn't distinguish any features. Then he says my answers aren't making sense because they aren't consistent. Why would they be consistent if I can't see anything?! At this point I'm annoyed and want to walk out but I hope the end is near. The worst came next when he physically man handled my face and eyes to put in eye drops and test my pressures. I asked for him to wait a second but he refused, pulled my face to the machine and snatched my eye lids open as though I was a rag doll. In between tearing from the drops I was crying from his unprofessional behavior. I was in shock. I felt violated. After the appointment be barely said goodbye as he brought me to pay and then ran out of the store.
