to be honest i went to eastside opt. because they were near my office, but to be honest again i am glad i did as i got a great eye exam and from front desk to eye doctor my visit was smooth sailing .the whole process is fairly quick from filling out my info to the actual exam which took less then 20 minutes with the latest state of the art eye vision equipment. i recommend you make your appointment over the phone as i prefer to speak to a real person so i can ask questions about my insurance coverage and what will cost what. i made it clear i wanted my prescription when the exam was over and i was not talked into purchasing eyeglasses at all which i appreciated. i would recommend east side opt. and would not hesitate to come back for my next yearly exam. 4 5 stars on my yelp meter. read more

So bad I almost walked out in the middle of the exam... My first visit years ago was great. Maybe it's because I went at lunch and he took his time. I stopped in at 5PM today and it became apparent that the doctor wanted to rush out. He started with a rude comment to the assistant about adjusting the chin strap better however her position was more comfortable. Then he was rude and condescending when I wasn't able to read the letters because they looked like blobs. Isn't that why I'm getting an exam in the first place?! I was mockingly told to guess even though I said I couldn't distinguish any features. Then he says my answers aren't making sense because they aren't consistent. Why would they be consistent if I can't see anything?! At this point I'm annoyed and want to walk out but I hope the end is near. The worst came next when he physically man handled my face and eyes to put in eye drops and test my pressures. I asked for him to wait a second but he refused, pulled my face to the machine and snatched my eye lids open as though I was a rag doll. In between tearing from the drops I was crying from his unprofessional behavior. I was in shock. I felt violated. After the appointment be barely said goodbye as he brought me to pay and then ran out of the store. read more

I've been going here for several years now. I chose it because it was convenient to my office, has a good range of hours, accepts my insurance AND has glasses in store (inside a Lenscrafters) so you can do it all at once. I never have an issue getting an eye appointment and scheduling is easy. I am big on front desk service and find it fine here - no red flags. My billing has always been right. As for the ordering of glasses, the associates at Lenscrafters have always explained my benefits to me and help me with the frames. ** Therapy at no extra cost** Last summer when I went, I was very frustrated that I had trouble reading the chart (until recently was 20/20 but an astigmatism is challenging this). I started tearing up and told the doctor "I give up." Dr. Kushner could not have been MORE PATIENT with my antics and just so polite. He pushed me to keep trying and said I wasn't getting old but eyes sometimes change. (ps: at the end of it all, I over-reacted, my script was the same. Silly me) Recommend :) read more

They operate within a Lenscafters which was cool because I could browse the selection while waiting for my appointment. The sales people weren't pushy, but ultimately the LensCrafters didn't really have what I was looking for. I'll probably come back again in 6 years when I get my next eye exam. read more

I saw Dr. Kushner for my first exam in about 2 years. He was an excellent doctor and actually suggested that my previous physician may have given me a prescription just so they could sell me contacts and glasses. Apparently I have 20/20 vision! Dr. Kushner is amazing in that, despite working out of a shop that sells glasses, made no effort to up-sell me. He even gave me a sample of eye drops because I was complaining about dry eyes at work. Thought he may not see me often since I don't need corrective lenses, I took a few cards to hand to my colleagues at work. Highly, highly recommend him. He knows what he's doing. read more

Wonderful eye exam! My husband and I saw Dr Goldberg for our annual eye exam and we were quite impressed. They have the most up to date equipment and technology and provide a comprehensive eye examination. The staff answered all our insurance questions patiently and accurately making that part of it easy for us. The doctor explained everything and also answered all our questions and we never felt rushed. I give the office and doctor my highest recommendation. A truly professional, thorough and pleasant experience and considering this has to do with our eyes and vision we would want nothing less and could hope for nothing more. 5 our of 5 star experience. Found this office through the networks listing and its proximity to my office, and boy oh boy was it a great find. This was one of the most efficiently run Optometry offices I've had in over 20 years. I was in and out in 30 minutes after having a full annual exam and contact lens fitting. Dr. Kushner was pleasant, personable, and most importantly, genuine!!!! I made an appointment online which was very simple and being a new patient with them, they sent me a link to complete the usual paperwork in advance to expedite the process! Excellent service. Dr Scott Isaacs did a phenomenal job at fitting my contact lenses on the first try. I had trouble getting fitted before and had given up on lenses. What ,, I don't think I've ever been to an eye doctor and not been dilated ,,. Taking advantage ,, 75?more than it had to b , I can afford if but people who can't should know ,,. The team are friendly and competent enough but their charges are misleading and their business practices weould be more at home in a Turkish bazaar than midtown Manhattan. I was told when I arrived that I'd have to make a co-payment of $20 for an eye exam and it would be a further $75 if I needed a prescription. I didn't require a prescription as I have a year's worth of lenses at home and so just wanted an exam to make sure nothing had changed. Nothing had changed. But they insisted I had to pay the full $95 at the extra $75 was for some sort of "contact lens" exam (which I think was the 3 minutes she spent looking at my eyes with a light when I had my lenses in). I intend to go to a more honest place in future. read more

This was my first time here and actually my first time visiting an Optometrist in NYC - as I am from Australia. It was very easy to make an appointment and the receptionists are very friendly and helpful. Dr Kusher was great - he was very thorough, friendly and explained everything as he went along. I would definitely recommend to my friends and will use this practice as my regular optometrists from now on! And yes there is the added bonus of the practice being within Lenscrafters, so very convenient when you need a new set of specs! read more

I was really hoping to like this place since it is close to work and they accept my insurance. However their management skills are subpar at best. I made an appointment for Sunday (which is great that they have office hours that day) however I received legit ten different emails and phone calls for a Saturday appointment. So I called and they had scheduled me on the wrong date. NBD, they fixed it and I was all set for Sunday. So I go in Sunday and they tell me according to my insurance I can not be seen untill the 11 (mind you my appointment was on the 9) YOU COULDN'T HAVE TOLD ME THIS IN THE 100's OF EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS you made to confirm my appointments. Not only did I waste time on a beautiful Sunday afternoon but now I have to waste another one of my Sunday's coming to your incompetent office. NOT COOL read more

Not happy with my results to date. Perhaps if you need a simple correction you'd be satisfied but as I required a more complex fitting (multi-focal - which they charge significantly more for) I have yet to receive lenses that work. Worst part is I was sent home without proper explanation of the various options and future potential waiting times and costs. It was only after my researching various options on the internet that I was even offered some of the more recently developed options. Appointments were cancelled 15 minutes prior to scheduled time due to lenses not being ordered on time so all in all so far not a very happy camper. Will update if and when I'm ever properly fitted. read more

I came here for my first eye exam in years. Since I just got a new insurance plan, I was grateful they were very thorough in explaining what my plan did and did not cover. Since I needed an eye exam, a contact fitting, and contact prescription anyway, I had to go with whatever my plan covered no matter what, but I was grateful for their explanation. I went at lunch time and the wait was minimal (I scheduled an appt online, which I recommend so you can fill out your paperwork beforehand and make the visit much easier) The staff clearly explained each procedure and I felt very comfortable with the process. I saw Dr Abilevitz who was very friendly and thorough in answering my questions. I'd certainly come back here! It's a bit small, but it's Manhattan, and it's very clean which is important to me. I have had yearly eye exams almost all of my adult life and contact lens exams for a good part of that. About 8 years ago I switched to progressive contacts (reading and distance in one lens). This is a very hard lens to fit; it is somewhat subjective in the vision you are trying to correct for. Some people like better distance with worse reading and some like the reverse. Because I could not find a better balance of distance/reading, I stuck with my script from 8 years ago, rejecting other attempts to compensate for my changing eyes because the optometrists just kept getting it wrong (for me). This year I saw Dr. Kushner. He was simply amazing. Sometimes you find the professional who really is brilliant at what they do and that is Dr. Kushner. On his very first try, he balanced the distance and vision to the point where I now see 20/15 distance and can read small type menus in dim lit restaurants. I highly recommend Dr. Kushner to anyone with complicated contact needs. read more

Saw Dr. Goldberg. He was efficient and clear with everything he did. I've been going to Lenscrafters and Dr. Goldberg for a long time. In 2009, he diagnosed problems with my retina and referred me to a retina specialist, who performed laser surgery which corrected the problem. This visit with Dr. Goldberg saved my eyesight! I highly recommend Dr. Goldberg. I also appreciate that you can book your appointment online. Their location (44 & Lex) is close to my job and is very convenient. read more

I have been here twice and both times the experience has been good. Booking the appointment was easy, but I had to call since the website throws an error when you try to book online. I called on a Wednesday and I was able to get an appointment for that Friday. Inside the office, the wait was less than 15 minutes. The doctors and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Everyone seemed to be genuinely concerned with the health of my eyes. The appointment didn't take very long and the doctor was able to easily identify the appropriate prescription for both glasses and contacts. A lot of people think that these eye doctors are connected with Lenscrafters but while they are in Lenscrafters, you don't necessarily have to buy from Lenscrafters. I had gone to another eye doctor that accepted my insurance. My eye exam was not as thorough as the one I got at Eastside Opt; the doctor kept interrupting me; didn't seem to believe me when I told him I couldn't read what was on the charts; kept pushing my head into the machine and gave me a sample pair of contacts that I could not see from. I had gone to Eastside before so decided to go back even though they don't accept my insurance. Extremely thorough exam. Saw Dr. Kushner who gave me the chance to "preview" two different types of contacts and was honest with me on which one he preferred. After discovering that the pair he recommended allowed me to see far and close, I realized that the other eye doctor must get some sort of "cut" for recommending the brand that I couldn't see with. Availability of hours is great. Service is great. Staff is great. And the doctors are honest and don't just sell you junk. The doctors also take the time to listen to you and answer your questions. I recommend this office to anyone who needs an eye doctor and even for those who don't just to have their eye health checked. Wonderful experience and of course, I will be back to them. read more

I've been going to Eastside Optometric for several years now, seeing Dr. Elana Abilevitz. Dr. Abilevitz is terrific - she is very thorough and explains everything, answers questions and always very pleasant. I mean, really - "pleasant" may sound lightweight but it really is nice to encounter. The staff in the office is always professional and are terrific at making sure you know all the insurance options available. Additionally, the technicians (?) who do the tests are always professional and patient (sometimes you have to take them a number of times to get a good shot or two). Extremely unhappy experience. This operation locates within a Lenscrafter shop. I went there two weeks ago for eye exam, which is required for me to get my new glasses. My vision plan covers basic eye exam, which is all I need. However, without asking me first, they also took retina imaging along with the eye exam, which is uncovered and cost $39. I got no issues for my eye, and this retina imaging is total useless for me. If they had asked me first, and explained to me that it would not be covered by the plan, I would definitely skip this option. However, none of these happened, not even after they showed me the bill. I figured the whole thing out only after I went back home and did some search online. I've changed my glasses 5+ times over the years, and I've used many different optometric services for that. This is the first ripoff experience. read more

I came here on a whim because I knew I was overdue for a visit to the eye doctor. The service that was provided to me was great and the frame selection was terrific. I also have great things to say about the optometrist who met with me (positive, educated, and exceptional personality). The frame selection is wide and filled with name brand fashion lenses. I also must mention that my insurance policy is so good that one of the salespeople said that I got a better deal than they do. I highly recommend this location of Lenscrafters. read more

Saw Dr. Elana Abilevitz. Excellent experience, fast, friendly, professional. They checked and validated my insurance so I only paid a small co-pay. I arrived early for my appointment and they took me right away. Exam itself was quick and easy, they updated my prescription so i can see clearly, did the usual "puff" test, etc. This was my second visit to this location, so I can confirm that they are consistently excellent year after year. read more

Dr Kushner is fantastic. I had such a wonderful experience with him and this office and am very happy to finally have found a doctor who can answer all my questions. I've been wearing glasses since I was 6 so I've seen my fair share of eye doctors. Recently I wasn't very happy with the service I was receiving with another office so I decided to try Eastside Optometric as it's conveniently located by my office near Grand Central. They took me right on time for my appointment (when does any doctor office ever do that?) and Dr Kushner was able to answer all my (probably rather annoying) questions about my current situation- why my 2 glasses with the same prescription gave me completely different eyesight. He also put me in new contacts that are much better than my previous brand. He even was able to explain that the way I put my eyeliner on is the reason for the dryness in only my right eye. I didn't expect that from a male doctor and really appreciated the fact that he knew so much about female patients and how much they love their eyeliner. He also spoke to the optician in Lenscrafters to look further into my glasses issue and sure enough the new glasses they made me are perfect and I can finally see again. All my eye problems have been solved thanks to Dr Kushner. Just take note they don't take Amex so bring your Visa/MC. read more
