I cannot stress enough how awful my experience with Leonard Opticians was. I have a very high prescription, and I was completely upfront about that from the beginning. In fact, a few years ago they successfully made glasses for me with a similar prescription, and I was very satisfied at the time. Unfortunately, it seems the competent staff have since left, and the level of service has completely deteriorated. I was initially told my glasses would take about two weeks. Instead, months went by with little to no communication unless I repeatedly called for updates myself -- despite spending over $1,500. When the glasses finally arrived, they looked terrible and clearly were not made correctly. After multiple frustrating phone calls, I eventually learned they had used different frames than the ones I originally selected, which caused the lenses to fit improperly. What made the situation even worse was how rude and dismissive the staff were throughout the process. Rather than taking responsibility or trying to resolve the issue professionally, I was treated as though I was being unreasonable for expecting glasses that actually matched what I ordered. There was constant turnover, poor communication, no follow-through, and a complete lack of accountability. This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've ever had, especially for something so expensive and medically important. I would strongly caution anyone with a high prescription or complex order before trusting Leonard Opticians. read more

After my optician on Madison Avenue closed after 40+ years, I needed to select a new professional optical retailer. After much research and consulting with my Opthamologist, I chose Leonard Opticians at 24 West 55th Street. Turns out to be a inspired decision. Not only was the store visually pleasing, stocked with interesting frames catering to various tastes, but the staff was welcoming and professional. My eye doctor recommended Leonard Opticians since she said they were the best in NYC for the lenses. My eyes are kind of close together and I needed graduated lenses so it was a little complicated. Monica picked them out for me. She's a wizard at that. I'd pick up something that was very cool looking but would look hideous on me and she'd just say "No". She knew what was best. Everyone I know and even strangers were stopping me on the street to ask where I got my glasses. I sent them to Monica. THEN - I had a problem. Not their fault at all. Nothing wrong with the glasses but still a big problem. And they solved it for me. Immediately. That day and in way that worked completely for me. So - in these days when it's possible to get cheap glasses, Leonard is not cheap BUT they're incredibly fashion forward (think of this like a good haircut or a shirt you wear EVERY DAY), they know what looks good and what doesn't and they'll be honest, and they problem solve - so they're worth every penny. My experience going there has been like no other because I have a strong prescription and Leonard knows how to perfect it by using the most up to date quality material in helping me see better than I have ever seen before. "Seeing Is Believing" Every day I like to learn something new. Monica , at Leonard Optician was the first person to explain (accompanied by a diagram) of how progressives actually work, i.e. the "progression" involved in the lens. I had never understood this until I met her. She told me Leonard's uses lenses that are the equivalent of HDTV. Well when I got my new glasses, seeing was believing ! In all my years of wearing glasses, I never had the unique experience I am having now of a seamless transition between distance and reading. I have a very complicated prescription. For years I've been going to opticians and they've commonly reacted to seeing my prescription with a look of fear and annoyance in their eyes. That's not the case at Leonard. This is by far and away the best optician I've ever been to in my life. Both their sophistication at their craft and their level of service is unmatched. Fabulous service! I came to them with a pair of glasses with a broken frame. Another optician had told me the lenses would only fit into the identical frame which was unique. But within minutes Naomi, at Leonard Opticians, was showing me four different frames into which the lenses would fit. I chose one and was offered same day service to have the lenses inserted. The job was finished expertly and the final adjustments were made efficiently. A great experience and the new frames cost $150 less than the original frames had cost back n 2015. read more
