Extremely skilled and helpful staff. Highly recommend for getting prescription lenses done here, including if you buy frames elsewhere. Previously I had my lenses made where I purchased expensive frames and those lenses were far inferior to the lenses provided here. Also, the staff operate as if they are professionals who care about providing good service and advice. They charge very fairly and will try to help in any way they can, eg fixing broken frames that other stores had refused to touch. During covid, the owner went out of his way to secure contact lenses for my teenage son who had completely run out and was desperate. My experience here was excellent. I found pildes through Yelp as I was in need of an eye exam & new eyewear. I immediately booked online after seeing all the great reviews. They had availability for next day which was pretty awesome and worked out for me. The booking was easy they do have a cancellation policy so just read through it. When I arrived at my appointment Jean was very welcoming and quickly check me in to my appointment. Dr Hyde was professional and very knowledgeable I would definitely come back. After my eye exam I believe her name was Kenya she was so helpful in helping me find the glasses I wanted. She brought out so many suggestions and helped me Throughout the entire process to find the right pair. She made it so easy to help me decide the pair I wanted. Fantastic place! excellent customer service. Very pleasant. The glasses came in misaligned and they immediately ordered me a new pair and let me wear the other until my new pair arrived. They are excellent with young adults and have some fabulous optometrists for both adults and kids who can read. As an established pre-pandemic customer, I and my husband have had positive experiences here, but not this time. As a disabled elderly client using a device, I had called ahead for information hoping to come in at a less busy time, knowing that clients come in randomly. So, I was only slightly taken aback to find a full store 20 min after my second call and the salesperson out-for-lunch. Trying to arrange for replacement of one basic reading lens with a current prescription for my high quality frame, I was told both lenses had to be replaced, that I had to leave the frame for about a week, and that the frame was likely to break during the process. How to tide myself over during a week without reading glasses, I asked, and the salesman implied that I could buy a pair of cheap readers, apparently not noticing the astigmatic correction, which commercial readers do not address. Most unprofessional in my opinion, was the discussion about charges. The claim that BOTH lenses had to be replaced, contrary to statement of my ophthalmologist, was based on (1) difficulty in matching lenses (I have replaced a single basic lens more than once), (2) both lenses need replacement. The cost for two lenses appeared to change, when I asked about the AARP discount of 10%. First, I was told it is 5%, but this was corrected after I explained that I had just looked up the AARP website. The initial charge was then restated to a value increasing from $175 to $195 for the pre-discount lenses Thereupon ensued a difference of opinion with the salesman angrily asking whether I thought he could not deal with numbers. Of course he could, but so could I was my reply. Further discussion of the need for a new frame ensured, bringing the whole job to much higher cost. Starting from replacement of a single half lens in a reader frame, I was now being offered a new frame and 2 new lenses for several hundred dollars and poor service during the discussion. I regret that we won't be back. Our earlier experiences were very good: professional, friendly, and business-like. This one was not. read more

I've been coming here not long, about 2 years now. I was seen this weekend my Dr. Moore-Stoll who was friendly, professional and provided so much knowledge. Pildes in Manhattan. Bdwy. My wife had to visit 3 times to get prescription corrected and even change the Optometrist. Now, 10 months later, the frame break on the rim. I bring it in and the girl says 100 dollars. I say no, not at this moment. But then I ask, isn't there a warranty. She mumbled yes for a year. But now the frame numbers aren't on record. I went to Pildes Optical back in 2020 and I got and eye exam, frames and lenses. After insurance, I paid $370 total. Well, I just went to a new place and I got the exact same thing. Exact same frames (a different color), lenses and exam and after insurance I paid $216. Literally the exact same glasses, but for $154 less. Also, every time I went back to get my glasses adjusted, the people working there always seemed like they were being bothered. Also, if you wanted the nose pads replaced they charged me $5. The new place said they would do it for free. So, I'd avoid this place since they really overcharge and has terrible customer service. Replying to the owners comments. The frames are not discontinued. My new place ordered them from the manufacturer. Again, literally everything is the same. Frames. Lenses. Exam. Insurance. Everything. Some reason your price came out $154 more. Being overcharged and being treated poorly is why I took my business elsewhere. read more

I went for an exam. There was this really detailed exam with results written on pages and pages. They tried to rush me directly after pointing me in the direction of a pair of glasses in the $300 range without lenses. I decided that it was much to expensive for me and came back a week later to get the pages and pages of info that was mine... and received a 3 number result. LR and reading. I have applauded Pildes in the past after purchasing sunglasses, but just had to do it again! I purchased my first pair of bifocals from Jay very recently. We have been customers of Pildes Optical since we moved to New York, 20 years ago. Two years ago,my husband retired and our insurance changed.We decided to try a less expensive alternative to Pildes. Though my experience wasn't totally negative, I was not happy with the new optician. So, my husband tried a different "new" optician. That experience was less than satisfactory. After a lengthy conversation, we decided that we could afford Pildes since we had been very happy with them for so long. We modified our time between visits and were comfortable with the increased costs because of the superb service and our total satisfaction with their services. I have been going to Pildes for a little over a year and have had nothing less than stellar experiences every time. Dr. Hyde is fantastic and really takes his time during the exam to make sure you know what's going on, what changes might need to be made to your prescription, how to care for your lenses, when you are going to get that awful puff of air in your eye... *shudder*. The rest of the staff are equally thorough, patient, and kind. They do their best to really optimize your insurance so you can get what you need without (hopefully) paying an arm and a leg. A few months back, I started having issues with my contacts. I came back in to see Dr. Hyde last week. He patiently listened to my concerns and what was going on for me and worked hard to find a solution. He gave me a number of options that we could try and now, a week later, I'm back to being able to wear my contacts without having terrible migraines every time! I couldn't be happier! A note that they do get really busy so, yes, you will probably have to wait to get an appointment. I have only gone in a few times, an eye exam and purchased reading glasses and sunglasses, my wife did the same, about 6 mo this ago. Both agreed the exam and the interaction with the customer service staff was excellent. I went back In this week as the frame on my reading glasses broke. I wasn't sure what to expect as I might have been beyond the warranty period. They ordered me new frames and had the new lenses in them in 2 business days, No Charge. That's customer service.
