A lot of them assured me they can sand off my lenses, which I was trying to stay away from. Others said they could place an order of new frames off their website but it would take a week to arrive. As I was about to give up, I stumbled upon this small shop. To my surprise, they had exactly what i was looking for.. frames that fit my lenses PERFECTLY. Not only that, they also had various colors to choose from! There were two people at the counter (the owners maybe?) who were very friendly and helpful. They also alerted me that I shouldn't sand down lenses since there are specific measurements of how it fits in a particular frame in relation to your eyesight. They accept insurance, though I'm not sure which ones since I didn't end up going through insurance because it would've costed me more to get new frames + lenses.

Here's why: Visit #1: Brought in new frames for lenses, Salesperson Amnios saw my active VSP insurance but didn't run it, claiming it only applied if I bought two pairs (false). He charged me $500+ for one. Crowded, two days before Christmas--I felt rushed and pressured - I paid to avoid further conflict, planning to submit to VSP myself. What followed: Visit #2: one lens arrived cracked sent back Visit #3: progressive line was too low onsite lab guy suggested I buy stick-on magnifiers to fix their error. These are just READERS. I made them so I don't need additional magnification. Pickup #4: left work early to see pro optician who could remake them Pickup #5: he got it right. For the win. Now, reimbursement: Visit #6: Called - no one picks up. Sent email. No answer. Back to Cohen's for an itemized receipt to submit. Igor at customer service desk baffled as to why Amnios didn't run lenses through insurance. He promised a call from Amnios - never came. Called VSP; apparently submitting the claim myself would mean it was processed as out-of-network claim which reimburses far less. Has to be Cohens. VSP rep called them himself -- Igor said he'd relay to manager, run insurance and fax invoice. Two weeks later, nothing. Visit #7 Back to Cohen's: Igor blamed manager, promised resolution--nothing. Even VSP called again on my behalf. Not optimistic. Years of loyalty meant nothing. Disorganized, dismissive and apparently deceitful staff. Time wasted. Manager never reached out. I'm done.

Nothing has a price on it and she won't show you anything without first asking, Well, how much are you looking to spend? She looks over the glasses and you can see the wheels in her head turning as she considers how much she is going to try and charge you. She'll then quote you a price, offer a discount and then conveniently forget the discount when it comes to time to ring you up. She will try and convince you every single lens treatment is a must have, even the ones like a filter for blue light the efficacy of which is very much open to debate. Getting a copy of your prescription is like getting a work permit from the French government (even though it's your right!). I get a more ethical vibe from street vendors! To top it off, the selection here is terrible. They cannot answer even the most basic questions about the benefits offered by your health plan. When you ask, 'Is there any way you could look that information up?' she emits a soul destroying sigh to protest you interrupting her sedentariness. There is just a general carelessness to everything they do. They try to send you out with your new glasses without a case for them. They don't call you when your glasses are ready. I called them and they told me the glasses had arrived three days earlier! They often make you wait unreasonably long for scheduled appointments. I had to wait for 30 minutes once to get frames adjusted because the optometrist wouldn't do it and the only other staff member was "running an errand". They sent me home once with the wrong prescription!

It took me a long time to straighten it out (with no real help from billing rep Rukshana or manager Sergio). Once that was finally resolved, I was told I could bring my daughter in to get frames. When I showed up, I was told to leave because 'they still didn't have the information.' This was after both Rukshana and the store (over the phone) assured me they did. I got Sergio on the phone, and he said to pick frames (but gave no details on which ones). Then Amina, who I wasn't even speaking to, ran up, shoved a piece of paper in my face with the wrong information, and told me I was wrong. When I pointed out the mistake, instead of addressing it with me, she tried to explain to my minor daughter how I was wrong. I asked her to speak directly to me and stick to facts, but she refused and told me to leave the store. Two other employees just stood there, silent. This was my third wasted trip because of their mistakes. I could have dealt with the errors, but the rudeness and unprofessionalism? Unacceptable. They just lost three customers, me and my two kids (we've been with them 2-3 years). There are plenty of other options nearby, and I would highly recommend avoiding this place. I was told the glasses would be ready within 10 days, but no one ever called me when they arrived. When I followed up, I was told the lenses had a noticeable scratch and had already been reordered--without anyone notifying me of that either. The "solution" we were offered was for my wife to wear the display frames with the scratched lenses they initially received while waiting for a pair to be made. We found that solution frustrating and dismissive. No customer paying premium prices should be expected to walk around with damaged lenses especially when my wife made it clear she had her own temporary glasses and that option wouldn't work for her. Yet they claim they offer this solution often along with another solution to give a discount on another pair which also made no sense. If anyone actually agreed to those options I would be shocked. My wife also spoke with Savana, the store manager, and Sue, the district manager to no avail. Both felt like they were reading from the same script offering the same solution, which makes me believe this kind of problem happens more often than not. They brushed it off as if it were their usual routine. Whenever I've spent $1000 for glasses in the past, I've always had nothing but careful service with consideration for time and respect. If this could happened during their "Labor Day sales" I can't even begin to imagine how customers that paid full price feel. It feels more like they charged for "scratch resistant" but created plastic lenses to offset the "discount" she received just to make a sale. All trust is gone, save yourself the headache and go to a reputable provider.

It doesn't include "contact lens fitting", which will be an additional $35 for normally curved eyes or $65 for those with an astigmatism. And if you have never had contact lenses before, it is an additional required $50 to teach you how to place and take them off. Overall it's not a bad price total (compared to my very brief NYC pricing research), but I prefer transparency in pricing, especially as it relates to health related services. Nowhere in the groupon are these additional costs laid out, so keep it in mind. I made an appointment and was seen on time. The male doc was absolutely lovely and super helpful in getting through the appointment and the difficulty of popping those suckers on my eyeballs. I would highly recommend this place to someone who needs contact lenses.

You could tell everyone enjoyed being there, and it made the entire experience so much fun. The store itself is beautiful--I honestly didn't want to leave. Even the second-floor snack and drink bar was such a thoughtful touch that made it feel like more than just a retail store. This is how shopping should be. It's absolutely worth stopping in even if you're just browsing. I ended up buying a pair of Meta glasses, and I'm completely obsessed with them.
