Well, as it turns out, I have cataracts developing. They could easily have sold me $300 glasses, but they said " you don't need glasses, you need an ophthalmologist." So I made an appointment for next week at NYEE. Meanwhile, the people there could not possibly have been nicer, kinder or more welcoming. Both the young woman who administered the tests and the optometrist who reviewed the results and explained them to me, both are extraordinarily professional and caring. I came in looking for help with my glasses and shades that were too tight and caused a blister next to my eye and then showed an indent for several weeks. The doctor/associate who saw me was a bit rude. I'd tell him what's going on and then ask questions. And he'd ignore some things I said and took things out of context. So I politely ask him follow up questions while providing the right context. Then he said "you seem tense. You should take a breath and calm down". I almost up and left. His inability to or lack of desire to answer questions was projected with an attitude of taking his word for it with no questions asked. Not quite good customer service. He's lucky I gave a 2. To my dismay, I let that comment slide since I needed help (although he seemed to feel some kind of power out of me "complying" as if he thought he "calmed" me down). The glasses were just ok. Still a bit tight in certain spots and not fully straight. But any more asks for adjustments would've just been met with some dissatisfaction from him, so I didn't bother getting them done right. read more

I recently bought 2 complete pairs of glasses from Lenscrafters at 81st and 3rd. Overall the experience was good. I had an eye exam and the doctor was wonderful - friendly and professional. The only issue I had was with the sales woman who initially helped me. She was just rude for no reason. I happen to have excellent eye insurance and she tried extremely hard to find a way for me not to be able to use the discounts that my insurance provided. Finally I walked away from her and she eventually went in the back and then I approached another sales person who was much more professional and helpful. read more

DO NOT GO HERE: So I just got a brand new pair of glasses online fresh out of the box on 11/30/2023. Took it straight to this LensCrafters to adjust the frame since it was a tad tight. The "sales associate" literally just bent the frame back from the middle/front, not the sides like the folks did at Oakley. So yes, the frames looked hideous. BUT THAT WAS NOT THE WORST PART!!! Keep in mind these glasses have been out of the box for probably a few hours. This "sales associate" and NOT AN OPTOMETRIS even SCRATCHED the brand new lens!! UNBELIEVEABLE!!! Even though they made me wait for the optometris... I bought an Oakley lens and frame online through the Oakley site. I also brought another pair to the Oakley store half a mile from this place and they adjusted my other frames perfectly. I should've walked the half mile instead of across the street from my office. Let this be a lesson to you, those who cut corners will regret it. Additionally, LensCrafters and all these places are a scam. Overall, they quoted me like $170 for the frame and approximately $500 for the lens with all the bells and whistles. I went straight to Oakley and got everything with all the bells and whistle for $380 buckarooooos and that is without insurance-way cheaper than this scheme of a lens place. (for the same exact product, BUT BETTER!) The only difference is that when you get the lens straight from Oakley, can't say for other manufacturers, but you get their authentic lens, engraved with their logo, so you know its the real deal, not a piece of junk from LensCrafters. I still have my older pair from LensCrafters seven years ago and recall that after putting those glasses on, my vision was still blury with their lens. With the Oakley-manufacturer's lens-everything was crisp! So overall, DO NOT GET SERVICED HERE, they wll just scratch up your lens, ruin your frames, and this place is a scam. Just go straight to the manufacturer, and who knows! There might be a sale. I got my lens 50% off + free additional add on, quick shipping, free shipping, and more competent staff members. While I didn't make a purchase yet I did have a great experience at this LensCrafters location. After being treated very well at my local LensCrafters Upper East Side I remembered visiting this location years ago and being treated nicely at that time. I also know how huge the space is and the enormous collection of frames to choose from. Yesterday I was passing by and took the time to visit. I was interested in learning more about the sale 40% off lenses with the purchase of frames. Upon entering I was greeted by Erika. She said she was available to answer any questions. I said for now I wanted to look at all the frames. She politely left me to enjoy myself. I did ask the layout for men's, women's section etc. Like I said, the place is huge. She mentioned they sell men's frames to women all the time. I agreed with her that at times women's frames are gaudy. She said that is why men's are preferred as they are plain typically. I have to admit I was overwhelmed by the selection. I'm definitely going to need to return and visit with the intent to find the right frame. I told Erika I always wore Brooks Brothers. She said they only sell that brand on line. I was disappointed because I found their website hard to navigate. I also spoke to Zack the other employee on duty. I showed him my prescription for lenses and he very kindly took the time to calculate the 40% off. I'm getting a much better grip on the cost. Plus they have a section of designer close out frames. For those you get both the frames and lenses 50% off. I saw Burberry, Prada and more high end frames for upwards of $300.00 or more. I'm not interested. I'm going to drive Yelpers nuts reviewing eyeglasses until I decide. Or I at least will have my research completed for my next pair. The ones I purchased recently were because of waiting too long until it became an emergency! The bottom line is that I have never been to LensCrafters over the years and had a bad experience. I've searched for a replacement case but I can not find one. I get compliments on them all the time. I send everyone there. Easy pleasant and good selection. Prices like every glasses store are a little high but there are deals and whatnot. The staff are friendly, helpful, engaged, capable... The associated optometrist office is also great. I bought glasses. After the lenses were put in they came back so stretched I could hardly wear them. Of course the staff worked and worked to bend them back into shape and eventually they didn't fall straight off my face if I looked down. A year later I went back and bought glasses. I begged them to tell the lab or whoever puts in the lenses to be very careful to not stretch the glasses. I really made it clear. They understood and said they had seen it before and promised they would add very clear language about the frames. The new glasses came in even more stretched. Honestly the frames are basically useless. It would be easier to try to balance a fork on my face. Yet the frames were FINE when I tried them on and bought them. The problem happened -- twice -- when the lenses were put in. Something is wrong at their lab. Seriously. read more

I went to purchase reading glasses. They have a large selection. I selected a Michael kors pair and gave my prescription. Went to pick them up today after I got their text that the glasses were ready ahead of time. I tried them in store and the left side made a strange clicking sound. They tried to fix it but it did not seem fixable. They gave me the defective frames and told me they would call me back in two weeks when a new pair was available. I don't understand what sort of quality control is this, for such a large brand. Did nobody check a new pair once they were ready. Is it really convenient to keep waiting two weeks for a BIG QUALITY BLUNDER in my opinion by such a company. Who hands a defective item to a customer without checking? Why did they not notice. I've gotten glasses here several times--always on Saturdays. Good customer service and no waiting. The optometrist--Starbase Optometry--located inside this LensCrafters is also great. Their frames and lenses are better than most. I've never had an issue with them. The only drawback is their prices. If you're willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a good pair of glasses, this is a pretty good choice. If not, go somewhere else. read more

Wonderful experience at this location! The staff here is very courteous and professional, kindly welcoming me as I entered. The staff was attentive but not overwhelming as I took my time checking out all the different glasses. I made an appointment with the optometrist here solely because it's in the bottom of my building. Based on the reviews of other Yelpers I had really low expectations but desperately needed an exam to get some new glasses. I decided to check it out and was very pleasantly surprised. Dr. Fein is the man! He's so nice and personable and the exam was very thorough. You can tell he's passionate about his practice and cares about his patients. When I told him I've been having problems with my contacts, he recommended a new brand and gave me samples to try out over the weekend to make sure that I liked them before placing an order. So nice! My only criticisms are that the girls at reception were very unprofessional and this office does not accept my insurance. Despite these I'm very happy to have found Dr. Fein and will definitely continue to come here. read more

Despite having awesome vision insurance, I put off getting prescription sunglasses for over two years because I hate taking care of this sort of thing, especially in New York. You know the drill... tiny store with small selection, apathetic service, the up-sell, the rush... and walking away feeling like I paid too much and got too little. But I'm going on a trip and thought it might be nice to actually *see* what I'm looking at, so I mustered up the courage and gave it a shot. I picked this Lenscrafters because it's near my office and is pretty big, by NY standards. Right away I was greeted with a warm smile. The woman-- Alana-- listened patiently while I explained that I don't really need sunglasses that badly and would only order some if I found frames I loved. She seemed up for the challenge and led me to their giant selection of Ray Bans (there must have been 100 styles) and handed me pair after pair, taking the time to let me see them on my face and then giving her own honest opinion. I put five pairs in my little tray and told her we were in business. Next, I told Alana I would need a exam. She said I could have one right away. I only waited about 10 minutes before being greeted by Dr. Siringo. Seeing as how this was the default doctor inside a Lenscrafters, I didn't expect much. But again.. impressed! She was smart, kind and thorough, with a fantastic bedside (er... eye-tester-side?) manner. I would've picked her out of 100 doctors if given the choice. So now it was time to place my order, and I sat back down with Alana to make my final pick (another 10 minutes, while she waited patiently) and she tallied up my costs. I braced myself, expecting about $200. It was $40. FOR-TY. For prescription Ray Bans that I adore. That whole experience could not have gone better. I'm now the proud new owner of my first pair of prescription sunglasses, as well as a lifelong customer of Lenscrafters. And maybe even a little less jaded, too. up until recently I would have given this place 5 starts, and lived happily ever after. BUT... I had a red eye, and as every other hypochondriac, I went to the doctor. "my doctor" was not there, so they paired me up with another doc. he was friendly, and did all the right tests, before establishing that I have minor scratches on my cornea, due to wearing contacts too much. ok, fine. then he prescribed me antibiotic eye drops, which were "definitely going to be covered by your insurance"; asked me to make another appointment, and charged me a co-pay of $15 for the visit. ok, still fine. then turned out that the drops were actually more than $60 with insurance, and not so "covered by my insurance". ok, you can't save on health, so let's move on. when i came to my second visit, I AGAIN got a new doctor, who kept saying that she was not sure what my eye looked like when I first came in, and feeding generic lines like "you should really take your contacts out when you sleep", well - duh.... so after paying another $15 co-pay, and making yet another follow-up appointment that I was told was necessary. ok, not so fine anymore.... I never made it to my second follow-up appointment, because of the work conflict. and guess what? no one even called me... totally not fine! so..... big disappointment here. nice collection of glasses, nice staff, if you are looking for a pair of frames, BUT I would look into a different eye doctor. read more

They've got a decent selection of frames in the $100-$350 range. The sales people weren't that helpful and didn't really make any recommendations for frames that would look good based on my face shape. (He showed me 1 or 2 frames but nothing more, wasn't too helpful) The guy I worked with was upfront with the pricing, which I appreciate. He laid out the cost of the different lens types and the discount they had going on, which brought the price down considerably. He told me about the warranty (sounds like a good deal - $25/year no questions asked replacement if they break or anything) and said I could get the warranty when I pick up my glasses - again, not pressuring me to spend more money than I wanted to, which was good. read more

I walked into this Lenscrafters in the city, on 3rd Ave, and a nice lady and gentleman helped me right as I walked in. The guy replaced the screw immediately and I haven't had an issue since. I can't speak to the doctor's services here as I only went in to have my new glasses adjusted. I didn't buy them from LensCrafters but I stopped in at lunch and a really friendly employee named Daniel adjusted them for me. He was really helpful and did a great job. We also had a nice conversation about Dante's Inferno and Game of Thrones. There was no charge. The store was clean and organized and quiet. I really haven't had a lot of great customer service experiences recently so I wanted to give Daniel some kudos. read more

A guy comes into a Lenscrafters store and asks "Hi, I'd like an eye exam for contact lenses". The Lenscrafter says "That will be $79, Sir" to which the guy says "Okay, great". The standard routine tests, including intraocular pressure and a lengthy vision field test are done by the technician. Then the doctor comes in. "There is an additional charge of $80 for 'contact lens fitting'. The price we quoted was just for the basic exam". The guy looks confused. "Do you want to proceed?". The guy didn't and left the store. Meanwhile the doctor mumbled something like "Sorry", but it was not truly genuine. There are cheaper eye exams for contacts in New York than Lenscrafters. This example is probably more the exception rather than the rule. Store is nice, big, and clean, so that earn them star number two. read more

Dr. Fein is an expert when it comes to glasses and contact lens prescriptions. He corrected my "slightly off" prescriptions that I had been suffering with for years. He really cares and knows his craft. I would recommend him to anyone in need of a knowledgable, precise and friendly eye doctor. read more

DO NOT DO YOUR EYE EXAMS HERE!!! SIRINGO OPTOMETRY IS THE WORST EVER. First of all, the Lenscrafters people were great. That's all I have to say about them. THIS IS WHY I'M GIVING THE PLACE THREE STARS and not one. It is the optometry doctor I met that was terrible. The optometry doctor at Siringo Optometry (located in the store) was the worst freaking doctor I ever met in my entire 30 year old life. I've met nerdy doctors, socially inept doctors as well as the majority of the well-trained and well-mannered doctors. But here... Jesus Christ - I won't say which one--I hope all of them are not like her. She would respond to my questions with very rude and short answers, as if I were a child getting reprimanded. Did not give a f*** that I was concerned that my vision was getting bad. I had a hard time seeing the letters on the screen and she shouted at me telling me to tell her what I saw. What?! Are you f***** crazy? Aren't I paying you for this? I paid 149 dollars for my comprehensive eye exam, and it was not worth it. EVEN IF THEY PAID ME TO COME BACK, I would not go. Buy your eyeglasses here, but at all costs avoid the optometrist. read more
