I agree with Lana's ( Malverne) and Fran's ( Lynbrook) sentiments; my 3 boys and I walked in with our prescriptions last June or July last year. Maybe we went there without appointments, but I could totally sense the negative vibe from the two ladies. I could not just leave because I had my boys with me. I would instead be told to come back rather than rudely rush to choose frames and emphasize that we choose from a particular area, with minimal selection, because that's what my insurance covers. I kept telling them it didn't matter; I could pay the difference. I work for North Well, and American Vision accepts our insurance, so I just went there. ( I realized afterward that the eye store next door accepts my insurance, too). I felt we were improperly assisted and treated. Usually, I won't let that pass, but I would not do that in front of my kids. I felt we didn't have enough time to find what we wanted. I told my co-worker about that experience. She told me to go to Carle Place the next time. It didn't end there; three pairs of glasses were ready after a few weeks, but not one 1 of my kids. I have not received any call, so I called to follow up; one of the ladies spoke to me. She told me she could not do anything; It was out of her control. I just had to wait; it was up to my insurance. She will call me when it is ready. Really? My kid didn't have glasses for a long time now. I lost my temper from there; not only did we wait for quite some time, but the callous, arrogant, and unapologetic way I sensed from that other person unleashed my anger. I am sorry, but I won't use them again. It's too bad; maybe the rest of the people there are very professional, but if more than one person complained about their staff, someone should have looked into our concern. Staff is rude and not helpful. I got glasses from American Vision in Lynbrook....never again. The counter person was rude and tried to rush me to pick out frames. Spoke to the owner about it and he hung up on me. Need glasses? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. The frames I got broke and lenses fell out. Good money paid for bad service. After visiting the Cohen Fashion Optical store in Oceanside and being quoted an absurdly high price of $825.00 for one pair of glasses with progressive lenses et al., I decided to visit American Vision in neighboring Lynbrook. I met with Dr. Elyse Teran Decker who was sincerely empathetic to my plight. Elyse was cheerful without being pushy and after picking a stunning pair of Georgio Armani frames and working the numbers, I was delighted when she quoted me a price that was half of the quote I had previously received from the competition! Definitely would recommend this place to my friends and family. Dr.E.Decker gave me one of the best eye exams I've ever had. She didn't rush, and ensured that I received the perfect prescription for my contacts/glasses. During this time it is pivotal that business are taking all the necessary safety measures and I can ensure you guys that American Vision is. This place was my savior!!! My daughter lost her glasses and we broke the back up. I was able to get a 6pm appt and get her a set of glasses on the spot for school the next day. (Well 30 mins) The staff was exceptional. Dr. M was thorough and precise and you could tell he really cared about his patients eye health. The woman who helped us pick out frames was so patient and friendly. The lab tech was great with kids and didn't mind making a pair of glasses at 6:30. All in all I couldn't be happier. Due to an unfortunate accident during a family birthday party I attended in Valley Stream this weekend, the temples of my beloved Vuarnet sunglasses were severely bent. I swiftly googled optical repair and American Vision of Lynbrook came up. There were other optical locations closer to my uncles house, but we decided to make the 15 min drive here, because I had a very pleasant experience at their bayside location just a few months ago. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile by the receptionist. I explained the problem to her and she called the technician. The technician was also super friendly and professional (didn't catch his name, sadly) He was able to fix my glasses within 5 minutes, and didn't charge me anything! And - best of all - my uncle, who had drove me there, and who has had many vision problems over the years but is very stubborn about doctors visits, ended up being talked into an eye exam. By sheer luck,the receptionist informed me there was a cancelation, so he was seen immediately without an appointment. He was seen by Dr Margolin, and had nothing but good things to say about him afterward. My uncle doesn't have vision insurance, so the front desk staff worked with him on prices for the exam and glasses. We were very happy with the price because in his words, he had been "charged an arm and a leg at cohens" in the past. He even got 50 percent off a second pair. They made his reading glasses the same day while we went out for coffee. He is so much more comfortable now after years of squinting and suffering! Thank you again American Vision ! I hadn't had my eyes checked in probably about 3-4 years so I felt it was time for an exam and a new pair of glasses ... I've been wearing glasses or contacts since 6th grade so this was not my first rodeo. Over the years, occasionally I've stumbled upon stores where the exam was done in 10 mts or less that made me feel as though I was cheated. DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE with Dr. Margolin!! He provided a thorough exam, showed that he genuinely cares about his patients' health, and passionate about his profession. Dr. Margolin was warm, respectful, professional. Victoria helped me pick out a new pair of glasses. She knew just what I liked (we never met prior) and what was in style. The very first pair she presented was the pair I loved the best. John took my lens measurements and was quite precise--his experience showed. It was a comfortable atmosphere. My new glasses arrived when they told me they would and look and feel great! After receiving a call from one of the owners last night - Sherry - asking me to retract my "harsh" review (according to her), I came back into Yelp because I wanted to add a clarification that I had no issues with the doctor at the location. He was very patient with me and the other members of my family. Well, what do you know? My original review was removed. I did not remove it nor do I regret writing the review. I am extremely dissatisfied with the over priced glasses and service they provided, I would only recommend people to stay away from them. When I wore the glasses they made for me I noticed my peripheral vision was blurry, when I put the glasses up to the light I saw a half inch diameter circle etched in the glasses and I realized that was my only field of vision. I went back to American Vision to explain how it is not to my satisfaction, I was taken back by the response. First he insulted my intelligence by telling me the half inch circle I saw was just my finger print, with the lighting in the store I was unable to see the etched circle. Then When he saw I was not going to let him get away with that lie he told me that I should tilt my head in 15 degrees to see. When I got home I was able to clearly see the machine made half inch etched circle again. I am going to go to other recommended trusted eyeglass establishments (Which I should have done in the first place), get the real story behind this etched circle and if evidence shows that I was taken advantaged, i will make a report to the BBB I was never properly informed that I will be paying a lot of money for glasses with a field of vision of only a half an inch diameter in my glasses. read more

I came into American Vision so frustrated after going to several other eye glass stores that would not take my insurance. Not only did American Vision take my insurance, but the woman Victoria that helped me was wonderful. She was so helpful and nice and made the whole experience easy. A few months after that great experience, I brought my daughter in on a Saturday for an exam and glasses. I forgot to make an appt for the exam, but Victoria was there and once again made our experience painless. I've come here a few times over the past few years and always wonder why I keep coming back. There's almost no parking (maybe 4 parking spots in total) , the staff is OK, doctors are OK. They always try to up sell you on the glasses. I think they try to figure out your tolerance for pain price wise and get as close to it as possible. All that aside my last visit was ...well my very last visit. two things have pushed me to go elsewhere next time (1) the doctor talked down to me when I could not recall the name of a medication I was taking at the time. Very condescendingly she says "you should write the names of the medicines down and carry it in your wallet"...wow! Really! What an idea!! (2) Within an hour of picking up the glasses the nose piece fell off, when I went back one of the employees was just rude and the more experienced guy there saw that and took over. But months after the fact I'm still not happy with the glasses but I'm stuck with them. Living in Lynbrook I always joke its the "Eyeglass capital of the world" as there are so many optical places its ridiculous! In either case I'll be going else where next time. read more

A GREAT PLACE TO GET EYEGLASSES - ESPECIALLY SENIOR CITIZENS! AMERICAN VISION OF LYNBROOK AND OF BAYSIDE NEW YORK I am a senior citizen who just had cataract surgery done 2 months ago. I have worn eyeglasses all my life, and after the surgery all I really needed were readers. Even though I no longer need eyeglasses for driving or distance, I felt like something was missing? That little extra magnification I was used to getting, from wearing eyeglasses. I called a few Major and private Optical stores, telling them I had the cataract surgery and Medicare allows me new eyeglasses after surgery. No one, I called, wanted to deal with Medicare. They all said they would give me a bill and that I would have to deal with Medicare for reimbursement. I was NOT happy to hear that! Then I called American Vision of Lynbrook, NY. A woman answered the phone who I found out later was the owner. I explained to her what I wanted. She said NO PROBLEM, she will take care of all the paper work involved and I need not worry about contacting ANYONE! Great! Just what I wanted. I went there the very same day for the eye exam and fitting of my new eyeglasses. Dr. Margolin gave me a very thorough eye examination and I was very happy how American Vision of Lynbrook took care of me. They were very friendly and I felt very, very, comfortable being there. As a bonus, I was told my Medicare Advantage plan Insurer, allows me to get eye exams and eyeglasses every year if I need it, with no cost to me If I stay within the amount allowed. AMERICAN VISION has two stores, one in Lynbrook, NY and one in Bayside, NY. Both stores are family owned and operated. A week later I got the call to come pickup my new eyeglasses. I went the same day of the call. I tried them on, a little adjustment and ALL WAS GOOD! I am very happy with the results, I know anyone who is reading this review would be happy too. If your in need of an eye exam, contacts, eyeglasses, go see them, you won't be disappointed! Remember Senior Citizens, AMERICAN VISION will take care of all the paperwork needed for Medicare! I love this place, the staff was great. They help me purchase the right glasses for my face frame. I received my glasses in two days. The parking isn't good, but the place isn't that big, that is something you have to over look, plus the staff being kind and friendly maked up for the no parking, the selection of glasses is not a large selection, because the place is small. I just read the other review and the sad thing is that the owner he is talking about no longer works in the store, his even WORSE wife now runs the place. She is a horrible businesslady to say the least. An important note to add to this story below is that I have been a customer here since I needed glasses.... a pretty long time. And the fact that this is how they treat a long time customer is ridiculous. Here is my horror story: I had already decided to no longer use them for glasses after they put my focal points in the wrong spot on the lens & wouldn't fix it. But figured I would use them for contacts still (poor decision). They made me pre-pay for the contacts $125 for 6 months (a ripoff that they said was a "discount"). Then when I couldn't make it back for a follow up anytime soon after, they refused to give me the lenses, refused to give me a refund (for an item I have never gotten by the way!), and told me I had to pay them another $50 for a "special follow up" because it was too long. I regret every dollar I have spent at this place and have advised all family & friends to avoid it. You should too! read more

I have personally been going to American Vision for quite some time and have always been dealt with in, nothing short, of a professional manner...... Pull back about two years ago when I made a substantial purchase of frames, lenses, and contacts......I had a credit card issue plus a delayed response to my insurance / fsa benefits and they, specifically, John were accommodating to allow me to place my purchase on one card, then delete my purchase, and work with me to get the purchase on the original card I had an issue with - They were so accommodating that they were even going to let me go home for the day and call back with my payment information to clear up all of the issues I was having that day....... Ok so fast forward to my dealings with them over the last week....... I had decided to try something a little different and order my frames and lenses through a company I had heard very god things about that sells frames and glasses at a strong discounted rate (With two very energetic little boys who seem to like to hit me in my glasses often, this sounded like a good plan). In order for me to put the order through I had to renew my prescription and the only logical place for me to go get the exam was American Vision..... I explained to them that I wanted to give this new option a shot and not once did they try to sell me on buying new frames from them - They were actually complimentary on the company I was going to use which was a breath of fresh air. Especially in this type of an economy where every sale counts...... I am not sure if Louis was burned by someone in the store personally but American Vision is all class..... One of the screws came out my glasses that I DID NOT purchase from American Vision of Lynbrook. Place of purchase is out of business. Had trouble getting screw back in, so I taped the temple to the frame, which didn't hold for too long. As I am telecommuting during shutdown, I used an old backup pair (with an outdated prescription). Had trouble seeing my computer for work. Didn't feel safe driving with them either. Felt very trapped. Victoria said she would help me. Made an appointment. They are a very safe and very clean establishment. Not risking a drive I walked over. Rang the doorbell. Victoria warmly welcomed me inside (we were masked up as required). Made sure I used the hand sanitizer immediately inside the door. Plexiglass safety shields everywhere. The masked-up owner checked my temperature. Put my glasses on the tray and was invited to take a seat. Not even 10 minutes later my glasses were GOOD AS NEW AND PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED! Offered some money in deep gratitude "to keep the lights on" but the owner refused. They are the epitome of a local, community-minded business! People before profit. They are very reputable. Not happy...Ordered new lenses for my original frames on Monday. Lenses came in Wednesday, we dropped off frames and were told to come back in 1 1/2 hours to give the tech time to put them in. No problem, went to the mall and came back. Walk 2 steps out of the store into the parking lot and see a large crack down the frames. Go back in, Andy the tech explains that it was a "cold fit" and it was hard to pop the lenses in. So obviously they broke when he tried to pop them in. But they just gave us the broken frames? So, they say they will order new frames and I'll have to come back again. While this is happening, the security video camera falls from the mirror and onto my daughter. A lady comes out of the office to see if she is ok. The lady tells me that normally there is a $30 warranty fee to replace frames, but since the camera fell on my daughter, they will waive it. Shouldn't it be waived for the reason that the TECH broke them in the first place? So, Friday the new frames come in. I return a 3rd time. Same tech puts the lenses in. AGAIN he cracks the frames. Now, the school break is over. My daughter has to go to school in the cracked frames and the store simply tells her to "be careful". 3rd frames come in on Monday. Store tells me I need to get there by 5:30 so the tech has time to put the lenses in because he leaves at 6. Doesn't matter that I work, I guess. I return a 4th time and finally get the glasses after being told we "better check them now, because after we leave the store they will not be covered by warranty." I don't live close by, I always used this store because I felt I'd get better customer service at a "mom and pop" place rather than a chain. I'm not going to be coming back. I had to make 4 round trips AND be told that I would have had to pay for the frames that the employee broke if the camera hadn't fallen on my child.
