Well, as it turns out, I have cataracts developing. They could easily have sold me $300 glasses, but they said " you don't need glasses, you need an ophthalmologist." So I made an appointment for next week at NYEE. Meanwhile, the people there could not possibly have been nicer, kinder or more welcoming. Both the young woman who administered the tests and the optometrist who reviewed the results and explained them to me, both are extraordinarily professional and caring. Proceeded to do the math in front of me and stated with insurance it would ~$630 vs with store discount and not using instance would be ~$600. You would think awesome savings? Wrong. She either accidentally quoted my benefits wrong or did it on purpose. Stated I had 20% off lenses when my insurance eye med covers it entirely with $15 copay, states anti reflective coating would be $99, when per my insurance should only pay $45 and stated I have $175 off frames when in reality I have $175 off and 20% off price above. When I did the math myself would be  $359.20. When she told me the insured priced it gave me a bit pause because I thought wow my insurance barely covers anything, did my benefits change drastically this year?! So I left to price shop and review my benefits. I would love to give them the benefit of the doubt but this is perfect scheme to entice a customer to use their coupon instead of insurance so they can maximize profits without having to deal with insurance reimbursement. Funnily enough if they actually quoted me the real insurance savings I would have purchased immediately. Now I certainly will not be back.

I had a very odd experience here over two separate visits, both involving the same employee. tl;dr…read moreone microaggressive employee turning outright hostile means customer will never patronize your brand again. On my first visit, I tried on a pair of frames I genuinely liked and asked a female staff member (who never identified herself) to price them out with my insurance. These were frames I intended to pair with high-index lenses--so not an inexpensive purchase, and clearly a serious inquiry. Throughout the interaction, she maintained an uncomfortably wide-eyed, bemused expression and a passive-aggressive tone that I couldn't quite place. When I asked what color the frames were while trying them on, she simply didn't respond. After pricing everything out, she wrote the total on a piece of paper. When I thanked her and went to take it with me, she told me she needed it back--but that I could take a photo of it instead. This was particularly strange given that the store has visible "no photography" signs posted. Despite the awkwardness, I stayed polite, said I'd think it over, and left. About a week later, I returned hoping to work with someone else, but she was again the available employee. I asked whether they still had the frames; she said they'd been sold from the case. Fine. I then asked if she could look up the model information from the sale so I could get the frame measurements. She reacted as though this was an unreasonable request, insisting that since I had taken photos earlier, I should provide the inventory tag number--despite the fact that these tags are attached by the store and, again, photography is supposedly not allowed. I had taken photos of my own face with the glasses on, not their inventory tagging system. When I asked if she could look it up info on the glasses model in the store's records, she became defensive and dismissive, saying she couldn't be expected to remember every patient who comes in. To be clear: I wasn't asking for personal recall, just basic information about a product the store sells--one I was prepared to spend several hundred dollars on. Instead of help, I was met with resistance and attitude. I might even say she was hostile, which was awfully creepy and unsettling. You can't interrupt and upbraid customers calmly attempting to clarify the information they're seeking from you. You want to Go Off on someone? Take it out to the street, honey. Unfortunately, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and unwilling to return. Customer service like this makes it very hard to do business, no matter how nice the frames might be. I'll find them online.

TLDR: Warby Parker really botched my contacts order but eventually made it right. It was difficult…read morespeak to a person with ownership even going into the store. Eventually someone in management called me back, but it took a little over a week. And I had a really horrible experience at this location. I'm a first-time contact lens wearer and got my first pair at another Warby Parker while visiting family, and my family paid for them. A few days later I went to this location for a refit with the optometrist. I was having a hard time getting the lens in, and she was short on time, and asked if she could just insert it for me. Instead of sticking to my eye, the lens fell onto the carpet. She rinsed it off and put it back in my eye. I was a little grossed out but didn't realize until I got home and Googled it that you're absolutely not supposed to do that. They also only had five lens samples to give me, which wasn't enough to hold me over until my order came in. So, I placed an order for correct strength monthly lenses. They told me the exchange would be $39 more, so I paid and left. About thirty minutes later the store called and said they had accidentally ordered the same lenses again, and offered a 20% inconvenience discount if I brought them back for exchange when they arrived. I later found out that all new contact wearers get 20% off automatically, so that discount wasn't actually compensation for their mistake. And they ordered the exact same lenses, so why did they charge me more? I tried calling, but you can't reach anyone at the actual store, only a call center overseas. I followed up by email five times, but no one ever answered any of my questions. Each time I respond or add information to the email, a new person answers, and none of my questions have been answered in over a week. It's clearly another call center, where no one person owns an issue until resolution. When I finally went back in to return the incorrect lenses, there was one person working behind the register and one helping other people, and a long line. They didn't do an exchange like I asked, or verify anything, and just refunded the entire purchase including the overcharge to my mom's credit card, which I don't have access to, then said it was too late and they couldn't do anything about it. So now I have no lenses, and I'll have to either ask my mom to send me the funds, or pay for the whole thing again myself, and I can't afford it for a few weeks. This whole experience was beyond frustrating. But their management ordered a month of lenses for me which I feel like was more than fair compensation for my frustration and I will go back because the locations are clean and I like the selection of glasses.
